Valentine’s Day 2021: Nashville Takeout Dining Guide | Eater Nashville

"I learned that Amerigo is hosting a virtual Valentine’s cooking class for two in partnership with Goo Goo Clusters led by Chef Steven Robilio, with meal kits priced at $70+ that feed two (orders due by Feb. 10 at noon); the restaurant will also be offering its full menu for dine-in and takeout." - Delia Jo Ramsey

What a great addition to Berkeley Heights this place has the best food in town. The chef is meticulous, hard-working and very friendly when he comes out to talk to the tables every dish I’ve had there has been incredible. The atmosphere is cool casual and the outdoor patio is nice on cooler evenings. I highly recommend this place!

We had dinner here on a Sunday night when the restaurant wasn't super crowded. It was a very nice dining experience. This is a BYOB with a casual atmosphere that is very family friendly. The menu has a nice selection, service was attentive, portions were generous and prices were reasonable. Plus super accommodating of food allergies and no problem at all with substitutions. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious, and a nice large ice bucket was provided for our wine. We started with an arugula and orange salad. At our request it was split in the kitchen (more than enough for two people) and the shaved parmesan cheese and dressing were put on the side. The lentil soup was hot and tasty, and not salty at all. For dinner the grilled shrimp (6) with green beans in a spicy red pepper sauce was terrific. The chicken scarpiello was so tender that it could be cut without a knife, and there was no problem substituting sweet peppers for spicy peppers. The apple tart with vanilla gelato was a great dessert, accompanied by espresso and mint tea. Our water glasses were refilled without asking, our table was promptly cleared between courses, and everything was spaced perfectly. Kudos to our server Arber and all the staff who assisted him. Parking is easy because the restaurant is in a large shopping center. We had a very enjoyable dinner and plan to return.

Google
Liked the NY strip. And my wife liked her shrimp over spinach.. service was excellent

Google
We had my dad’s 75th birthday party there. The owner did a wonderful job communicating with me before the party and offered great menu suggestions. Service was outstanding from start to finish, even on a busy Saturday night. Everyone raved about the food, from the appetizers to the entrees. There was a lot of sampling going on at the table because everyone wanted everyone else to try what they were having because it was so good. Berkeley Heights is lucky to have this gem of restaurant.

Google
Excellent place to eat. Food and service was absolutely amazing. Will definitely be coming back!

Google
I like this place, probably 4.5 stars, I will definitely go back. Cesar salad was good, although I would not order the lasagna again. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees and tiramisu looked awesome. Very nice atmosphere and the service was good.

Google
Everything about Amergio is amazing! All the food we had was delicious, the restaurant is beautiful, and the service was more than we could have asked for. Nicole made it a special and fun date night for us! We will definitely be coming back!

Google
Nice « Italian «  restaurant. There is no pizza :-) and it is a BYOB, so do not forget your bottle. The service was nice and fast. The ambiance is cosy. We went here on sat evening so I recommend to book your table. The food was good. Above the usual average. But still a litlle bit pricy.

Yelp
This was our 2nd visit to Amerigo and it was just as good as the 1st. We were a party of 6 and everyone was really happy with their dishes. To start, my husband and I shared a delicious Caesar salad. My entree, fettuccine with spinach and shrimp in a garlic olive oil sauce, was absolutely delicious and my husband loved his veal francaise with roasted potatoes. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service was excellent.

Yelp
The three times I've eaten in the restaurant were great. Service, food and menu. I have also ordered chicken parm to go several times & they are spot on. Yummy perfection.

Yelp
Today was a knockout experience, in no small part due to our server Bruno. Everything was just right, just simply wonderful.

Yelp
Came to this establishment on a Sunday evening. We didn't have reservations, but it only took less than five minutes to get a table. They brought out complementary bread with oil. I wish it was warm, but that was OK. The oil tasted horrible. Like it was vegetable oil. We then ordered the blood orange soda and the lemon lime soda, which were good. We then ordered the spicy rigatoni and the pesto pasta. I didn't like the spicy rigatoni. The pasta was way too al dente , it taste very undercooked. The pesto pasta was also very al dente. It was hard to enjoy with the pasta being hard. The bill came up to $70. This is a one time experience for me.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Had a large party come here and they were very accommodating and made our experience great

Yelp
Went here tonight with another couple. It's a sister restaurant to Fiorinos in Summit. This is a BYOB. Located in a local strip mall with plenty of parking. It was a nice night and we ate outside. Inside was very busy. The girls shared a chopped salad and enjoyed it. For mains the girls had salmon and red snapper. They both said their fish was very good. My buddy had the shrimp and risotto dish and enjoyed it. I had the shrimp Amerigo dish , which is shrimp served over a string bean and tomato ragout and Calabrian peppers . It was the ragout and peppers that failed in this dish because it was almost non existent. No peppers at all. However shrimp were very tasty. Overall good and will try again.

Yelp
Had an excellent meal at Amerigo! The staff was so attentive and gave us great recommendations. I started off with the Fried Calamari, Rustic Bruschetta & Clams Oreganata... all were fantastic but the Fried Calamari is a must try! It was FRESH, none of that frozen stuff here! The Spicy Rigatoni Vodka was DELICIOUS and so was the Lasagna Bolognese! Make sure to save room for dessert, the tiramisu is to die for a made fresh in house! Such a fantastic meal here, I will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Great new addition to the Berkeley Heights restaurant scene. As soon as I saw one of my favorite restaurants in Summit Fiorinos was opening a new restaurant nearby I couldn't wait to check it out. My husband and I went for dinner tonight and it did not disappoint. We didn't have a reservation but were immediately greeted by the lovely hostess Nicole who showed us to a table for two. They were filling up pretty quickly for a Tuesday so reservations would probably be a good idea in the future. We were quickly greeted by our server David who was very friendly and took our drink orders while we perused the menu. We were served some ice water and some fresh bread and olive oil. The restaurant is BYOB and many patrons brought their own wine selections with them. The decor was very modern and inviting and they also had seating outside as well. David returned to take our orders and we went with the Calamari and Mussels to start and for the Mains I had the Fettuccine Alfredo w/ Chicken and my Husband had the Grilled Pork Chops. The Appetizers arrived after a short wait and the Calamari was fried to a crispy golden brown w/ a nice Marinara sauce and the Mussels were served in flavorful tomato based broth w/ basil, garlic, and white wine... Very good! Then the mains arrived... Everything looked great! My husband took a bite of his pork chop and couldn't wait for me to taste it. He said the combination of the pork and apple chutney were perfect together and I agreed. My fettuccine was great as well. Pasta was cooked Al dente and the sauce had a great flavor. Also the owner stopped by our table to greet us and see how everything was. He was making his rounds chatting with everyone, that's always a nice touch. So this was definitely a great evening that didn't disappoint so I highly recommend you pay them a visit.

Yelp
Very close to being a top notch experience, but some things were off-putting. Let's start with the positives. Now, this location has gone through multiple changes over the last 10 years. First it was an Asian place, then a "traditional" feeling Italian place, now this a modern trendy Italian place. Interior is very pretty. I love the skylight in the middle. For a Tuesday night, this place was very active (even the outdoor dining). Our server Bruno was very attentive and professional. All of our food was pretty much a hit. Calamari was the perfect size (I don't like the massive rings, too chewy) and the breadcrumb seasoning was tasty. Also enjoyed the marinara - tasted how you would hope it would. The clams oreganata was also great. I enjoyed dipping my bread into the sauce. OH THE BREAD, how could I forget the bread. 3 different kinds, ones better than the other. Chef's kiss. My Mom and Dad both enjoyed their pasta dishes. I will say, when we first walked in the hostess and other wait staff at the front did not look happy we walked in, almost pissed. Also the person giving us water also looked bothered. Not saying you need to be dancing and cheerleading, but a smile goes a long way. Also- please change your oil that you use with the bread. The bread is stellar, but the oil tastes like...a weak flavorless oil. Almost like vegetable or something. Bring out the good olive oil.

Yelp
From the amazing service to the incredible food Amerigo is a wonderful experience! Even the small touches like the artisan crafted light fixtures and reclaimed barnwood tables make it feel like you're in someone's home. Don't skip the tiramisu. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A new cozy space where you feel like you are in your mother's dining room. The price is right and the Italian American fare is great. You can taste the freshness of the sauce and pasta. I've been. Here for a business lunch and dinner. Both times the experience was great and my guest raved about the food. Eggplant Parm and squid ink pasta 10/10. Happy to have this gem in the area.

Yelp
They open at 5pm. I arrived at 5:05pm and they were still conducting a line up. I asked the waiter "my neighbor got food here and said it was the best chicken parm ever. i'd like to place a take away." "No problem sir, one moment." A rude hostess showed up after and said they don't offer take away orders. The place is brand new and you would think they would make an exception to secure a loyal customer. I thought wrong.

Yelp
Oh my God everything went well food, service, and ambience this place is so fabulous. We had such a great time went for my birthday tonight. We had a blast. Nicole was our waitress. She was fabulous. She came over to us numerous times. Checked on us offered such great recommendations went above and beyond the call of duty, I will definitely be back five stars for sure.

Maris C.

Yelp
Great little find in a strip mall in the center of Berkeley Heights. Went for lunch with a friend love the decor, love the feel, staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was quite good. It was simple and tasty. The place is huge. It has a back room for a private party. Everything is clean and neat. You are not rushed and I think it's a great place to bring a family or a date or a great place for lunch with some friends.BYOB another plus! The private room is great for a birthday party or anniversary even any kind of bridal a baby shower if that is the kind of cuisine you want.

Bob X.

Yelp
Made a reservation through open table for a party of four three days in advance. Without me requesting forced the reservation to an outside table which is essentially a sidewalk in the parking lot..It was September and too cool at night for my party of four. The restaurant refused to move the reservation inside. All completely rude and unacceptable. It will be a cold. Day in December before I make reservations here again

Yelp
We have been here 5x now, so I think it's fair for me write my review. LOVE Amerigo. Period. The food is old school Italian American done right. Place is packed every night for a reason. Homemade pastas (lasagne Bolognese a standout), and the BEST lamb shank on farro (even better than their sister restaurant, dare I say that!!!....shhhh). Veal Marsala and the burger also a solid choice. Love the back room, reminds me of old school Brooklyn......staff is super nice, always. And the baked ziti! Enough said. Don't listen to the complainers who don't know the difference between a pork chop and a pork loin. Amerigo is gold.

Yelp
hmmm...I honestly don't know why this place is not rated higher. Pattie and I had a really tough day, and I was admittedly hangry. We were driving through town looking for a sandwich and ran into Amerigo. I know...not a sandwich. We had a great meal. We were greeted by a friendly and professional server, water glasses filled, and a basket of amazing bread arrives accompanied with flavored oil. So...not hangry anymore. I started with a delicious bowl of Pasta Faggioli. Fresh, herbaceous, warm, and the creamy beans made my belly happy. Pattie had the mussels and a Caesar Salad. The salad was maybe a tad overdressed, but cold, crispy, and super fresh, and I'd eat that every day. Mussels were plump, and with the focaccia to sop up the juice, it was a winner. But the real star was the Eggplant Parmigiana, served with a side of spaghetti. Now...I'm a chubby Italian, and I've eaten more than my fair share of eggplant parm (and yes, mine is the best). And it is always a disappointment when I order it out. Except for this time. The sheets of eggplant were the right thickness; fried, but not overly panko breaded and oily. Married with sauce and cheese. I say married, because it was given time to get happy together (like all good marriages). It was built right. But to be honest, the star of the meal was the side order of spaghetti. I know that makes no sense, but how many times to you go out to an Italian restaurant and you get an overcooked lump of pasta, sitting in a bath of water, with some really bad sauce dripped over the top. Not this time. It was like someone had built this side order like an actual entree, and not an afterthought. Al dente pasta, tossed with fresh tomatoes, basil and parmigiano reggiano. Recurring themes here are fresh and thoughtful. Exceeded all of my expectations. Of course, I was looking for a sandwich. Sometimes you get what you deserve. And it's a byob. You can probably tell, I'm a pretty discriminating chubby Italian. I left happy and will definitely be back. What else could you ask for.

tim b.

Yelp
The spicy rigatoni was DIVINE. The pasta was Al dente to perfection. I Love the ambiance and vibe of this place too. The eggplant parmigiana was silky and light dare I say demure? - they obviously use the freshest ingredients here and i can't wait to go back! Berkeley Hts is very lucky to have this place.

J W.

Yelp
Bigger room is very loud, but the back room is much quieter. Food is excellent. Service was too. Beet salad was very crisp and fresh. Had the lamb shank with farro and string beans. Great entree. ricotta cheesecake was a nice dessert. Going back next week.

Yelp
We had a party of 9, everyone seem to love their food, I absolutely loved their food, the appetizers, and the dinners were delicious, I wasn't sure I was going to like this place, my 1 st time there, I was invited by someone else, great choice... I was very surprise, the service was very good and the food was delicious, we will definitely be going back.

James M.

Yelp
BIG FAIL!!! Three of us went because we read an article on NJ.com about the restaurant and their spicy rigatoni. First off there was a strong noxious odor that passed through the room. It smelled like burning plastic (other reviews point this out so it is an ongoing issue). The food was overpriced and mediocre at best and that's being generous. It came out barely five minutes after placing the order which means it was pre-cooked, not made to order. Pasta dishes at $24 for a small portion in the middle of NJ is barely reasonable but an upcharge of $12 for an addition of three small meatballs is absurd ($36 for the dish). Spaghetti and meatballs is $27 on the menu so we assumed the upcharge would be $6-$9 for meatballs at most. (there is no pricing on the menu for meat side dishes). Any high end Italian place doesn't offer pre-grated Parmesan on the table like at a pizzeria and an oil dispenser filled with god knows what kind of oil. It was clear and flavored which means it could be any seed oil. High quality olive oil has a greenish color to it or at least yellowish color. Unacceptable! Had no drinks other than 1 bottle of still water and three plates of pasta. The bill came to over $150 including a generous tip (service was good so we didn't want to short change the staff). Avoid!

Frank T.

Yelp
Wife and I love Italian. Not this place. Stuck in Jersey due to flight probs. Hôtel recommended this place. Had better burgers at Five guys for half the price. Asked for Medium and it came rare. Server refused to take it back and insisted I said rare. Never in my life have I ordered rare. Wife got the seafood pasta. Shrimp was over cooked and not properly deveined. Stay away from this place.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Wow. So giving this 2 stars to at least acknowledge the nice staff. But the food was inedible. The fried calamari was not crispy, the salad was just ok. The main courses were bad. The spicy rigatoni was too spicy to enjoy, the shrimp and pasta tasted funny, something not right with the shrimp. And the chicken scapriello was bad. I wish I could say something nicer but this is not a restaurant that we could recommend

Megan H.

Yelp
Tried this place twice now and both times disappointed given the hype. The inside is cute and has a nice vibe for being located in a strip mall. Service was great both times we went so this review is strictly based on the food. First time I came was with my husband. I ordered the lasagna and it was dried out and hard as if it had been reheated. My husband had the linguine clam sauce which was extremely salty. Understanding this is a salty dish to begin with, this was next level inedible. Because I wanted to give this place another shot, returned last night with girlfriends. I ordered the Shrimp & Asparagus risotto special and it was bland. I also felt that some of the shrimp were not cooked all the way through. My friend ordered the same dish and agreed it was bland and asparagus was too hard. Another in the group ordered the eggplant parm and said all of the edges were so burnt. The other two dishes were pasta dishes, one being the spicy rigatoni, they felt they were ok - nothing to write home about. Over all this place is a let down, especially for the prices.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
$23 for Eggplant Parm?!?! Are you out of your mind. Take this place off the list. I don't care how good it is. $23 speaks volumes about what this owner thinks about his customers.

Jayce C.

Yelp
Came in for a loved ones birthday dinner, made a reservation for 6 people, arrived and was sat at a 4 person small table, other dining groups of 4 had a larger table than ours. After being sat, waited almost 10 min after being sat to get menus. Very uncomfortable seating. Must be a flaw in the planning and positioning of diners.

Claudia S.

Yelp
Disappointing all around. The dining room is very noisy - difficult to have a conversation. The food is average at best. Portions are small for the price. Warm food (not hot) served on cold plates. Midway through our meal, a strong noxious odor passed through the room after which the outside doors were opened. We will not be returning.

Craig S.

Yelp
Solid food, great service, love the ambiance, the did a great job with the space. Our meal was excellent.

Raissa P.

Yelp
This was an absolutely perfect meal in a wonderful location we will be back (maybe tomorrow night:) The service was so attentive they seemed to know what we needed before I did! I felt like I was in another world in this adorable Italian restaurant. Thank you!!

A F.

Yelp
Arrived a little early for our reservation and the table wasn't ready on our reservation. Waited about 10 minutes which was not terrible. We were seated without menus. The place was packed and very noisy. Had to call the waiter over to alert the hostess that we needed menus. Had to call the waiter over to take our order after we sat a long time. I observed the waiter standing around chit chatting with the hostess. Had to call him over to ask for desert menus and had to call him over for the check. 4 out of 5 touch points I had to call him. Each time we waited a while before I called him over. The food was average to below average. My calamari in my seafood dish was rubbery and chewy. No alcohol; no coffee, 2 deserts. One and done. Ameri(No)go

Yelp
Girls luncheon this afternoon at Amerigo, first visit and will not be our last. Restaurant is lovely and warm, casual yet elegant. Service was friendly and on point, and our lunches were outstanding . Salads are crisp and fresh....Eggplant and Mozzarella appetizer was perfect, followed by the Lasagna Bolognese which was truly out of this World. So glad we had room for dessert, The Tiramisu was like a cloud . Fiorino's in Summit has been a long standing favorite, ....finding the sister restaurant, Amerigo hands down a winner ! !
google avatar

Barbar K.

Yelp
We were very disappointed . The ambiance was terrible, the service was sketchy and the food quite ordinary
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Just went here for a late lunch with my wife and had a delicious meal, with warm ambiance and prompt service. Definitely recommend!

Mary A.

Yelp
The oil they're serving there with the bread is canola/vegetable oil. Why not buy some good olive oil and serve that to your guests. No one wants that kind of oil served with Italian bread. I know as a matter of fact, we asked that question when we were there and even my son asked the same thing and other people have put up the same review how terrible that is to do to your guests. Don't bother to put it out at all if you can't put good olive oil out.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
As a New addition to the many Italian places in the area, I'd add this joint to the list of "NEW" red sauce/modern Italian places to try. Recently had dinner at Amerigo in Berkeley Heights and it was SOLID. Spicy Rigatoni in Vodka Sauce is Stellar, The Chicken Scarparello was prepared the right way, with spicy sausage, potatoes, Calabrian chile. We did try one of the "red sauce" traditional items, the chicken parm, it was very good. I saw many "red sauce" items on tables I.E Chicken Parm, Lasagna, etc. and all looked nicely done. My only complaint was the fries served with the burger were not actually fries but rather a shredded, oily, undercooked nest of potatoes that were not very good. I much prefer they stick to a regular French Fry. Service was attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable, I highly recommend & it's BYOB!
google avatar

Dave T.

Yelp
So happy this place opened up in town. Everything is delicious here. But the spicy rigatoni is amazing. So is the amerigo burger. Love the decor. Service is so friendly. Def recommend it.

Jack M.

Yelp
Not good. Overpriced. Avoid. Overpriced and mediocre at best and that's being generous. Food came out barely five minutes after placing the order which means it was pre-cooked, not made to order. Pasta dishes at $27 for a small portion in the middle of NJ is barely reasonable but an upcharge of $12 for an addition of three small meatballs is absurd. Had no drinks other than water and three plates of pasta, that's it. Bill came to over $150. Don't give me the excuse that it's inflation. Inflation my arse. This was downright a waste of money. Service was decent but their claim to fame is to associate themselves with Fiorino in Summit. It's not even in the same class. This is one step above a chain restaurant like Olive Garden but with NYC prices. Don't bother. Any high end Italian place doesn't offer pre-grated Parmesan on the table like at a pizzeria and even the olive oil is questionable as it is clear with barely a hint of flavor. Tastes more like canola oil. Avoid.

David J.

Yelp
New Italian restaurant--lots of competition around. Middle of the pack. Food was neither worth complaining about nor praising. There's a weird sitting area taking up a quarter of the seating space, it would be nice in a restaurant with a bar, but they are BYOB, so it seems really out of place. Maybe they are planning to get a liquor license in the future. It was packed on a Saturday night so clearly other patrons liked it. The night I was there they seemed very focused on a few large parties so we had to wait quite a bit for service for two.

Howard B.

Yelp
the food and service is outstanding. I have had dinner there 5 times and each time it was excellent and at the right price thanks

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice, but the food is just average. The sister restaurant, Fiorino, is a lot better in my opinion.

Gabriela C.

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing service!!! I could not recommend this place enough. First time going there with my family for my mom's birthday and every single person there was very kind and attentive. The food was amazing and the place in general was lovely.

Frank S.

Yelp
Great service. Delicious food. Very nice atmosphere. Gluten free pasta. BYOB. Can't beat it.

Karen E.

Yelp
Went there today to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service was nice, but the food was terrible. Worst meal ever. Won't be going back.

Gg V.

Yelp
Was there on crowded Friday nite. Find the surroundings to be very loud making conversation difficult. Food was good but not spectacular. I had bucatini in a pork tomato sauce . Could not find the pork.. but it was tasty and pasta was cooked well. Service was good in spite of crowds. It was my second visit and better than the first. I had the sole oreganata which I did not care for at all since it was very thick and it came with spinach that lacked taste and was not baby spinach as it was very chewy but in spite of this decided to try it again. Maybe it was my choices but was not impressed.

Mehru D.

Yelp
we dine there on Saturday night. I ordered a pork chop. with my surprise I got a pork loin. we were with other people and didn't want to question the server. At the end I asked the manager and he responded that is a pork chop without bone. I challenged him that pork chop is a different cut with bone. he did not apologize and said that I am right and they are going to change the menu to reflect pork loin and not pork chop.

Phil S.

Yelp
Save you money! Hostess greeting was poor and it went down hill from there. Shrimp was a bland version of Bowl & Basket from Shop Rite. Calamari was terrible; bread was skimpy and the request for butter went unheaded. Good canoli and cappucino was the only good thing. Never going back.

Robert F.

Yelp
Food service and ambiance all were exceptional. Bring that nice bottle of wine you have been saving for a special occasion and enjoy it at this amazing BYOB

Nicholas D.

Yelp
Great food, great service w/ friendly staff. Love the ambiance too. Lots more things on the menu I want to try. Will definitely be coming back!!!

Peter J. F.

Yelp
Food was great, owner makes you feel happy you came to his restaurant . Service couldn't do enough for you
