The food was absolutely amazing. The service was perfect! The whole place reminded me of an old Italian restaurant we went to during my childhood in Spain. We had a blast at Amerigo!
We went here because we were told they could provide worry free gluten free grub. Some of my family have Celiac. So, when we learned about an Italian place that has gf bread, pizza, pasta and dessert... we made a beeline to Cool Springs!
When we entered the restaurant, I blurted out, "This place is sweet!" One of the managers heard me, and welcomed us right in. Geoff asked me, "Is this your first visit with us?" I nodded approvingly. I told him Amerigo was recommended by our gluten free community on Facebook. He quickly assured me that the rumors were true, and they would be happy to accommodate our dietary needs! Then he ran off to set the table for us.
The whole feel of the restaurant is inviting. Everyone there was clearly enjoying their visit, and yet the noise level was enjoyable. Every seat looked comfortable; especially ours!
The gluten free bread is their gf pizza dough. My wife and kid loved it. The rest of us had the gluteny stuff. It didn't take too long for the entrées to arrive. My wife loves pasta carbonara, and Amerigo nailed it! My kid went with the imperial fettuccine, which was actually gf spaghetti because that's the gf pasta that's avail. Both of them happily devoured their gf pasta dishes.
Our server, Jasmine, was delightfully personable and humorous. It's always fun when people share their personality while you are there. It just makes the whole experience memorable! When the food came out, several servers approached our table gently laying each dish in front of each patron at the same time. I just love when that happens. It adds an unexpected, welcome dash of style to the whole experience!
I went with the Veal Piccata over angel hair pasta. The dish even had sizable portions of jumbo lump crab meat. The white wine lemon butter sauce was simply divine. I saw so many options on the menu that I wanted to try, but it had been decades since I have had veal. That made the piccata a perfect first choice for me. The meat was tender, and the portion was surprisingly generous. The pasta was delicate while bursting with robust flavor. Each bite was a pleasure to put together. A little bit of pasta wrapped around the fork, a little slice of the veal, and lastly a final scoop catching a portion of the crab meat. It became a fun game repeating this process. I enjoyed the perfect bite every time!
When they ask you if you want to see the dessert menu, just say yes. The table ordered a few. None of the plates survived the barrage of spoons attacking them from all directions.
The gluten free peanut butter blondie was topped with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream and covered in a rocky road ganache. My kid's face lit up when he realized that monster was what he ordered.
The chocolate pecan fudge brownie won the richest dessert award. It also had a colossal scoop of vanilla ice cream atop of it as well as a Kahlúa chocolate sauce. Hands down, this one won over my tongue's heart. I only took one bite of it, and that was truly enough. It was perfect in every way.
Then the key lime pie made its entrance. If key lime pie is on the menu, I always have to try it. The succulent creamy filling was a perfect mixture of tart and sweet resting comfortably atop a thick graham cracker crust. This concoction was incredibly delicious. I can't remember the last time I was taken back by this dish at another restaurant. As far as I am concerned, it wins the best one out there!
We will return. Oh yes. That will happen! We had so much fun at Amerigo that we lost track of time. We had been there for over two hours and enjoyed every minute!
