A Rooftop Vineyard Is Coming to One of Italy's Airports | Condé Nast Traveler

"With the hope of drawing in more travelers and further connecting passengers with the region’s deep relationship with wine, the city has announced an overhaul of its international terminal, complete with a new design, a re-oriented runway and, best of all, a rooftop vineyard."

I like this airport a lot even though it is outdated. They haven't added any gates in the last 50 years so you have to take a shuttle from the plane to the terminal. The terminal is really small which means you can walk through it in less than 2 minutes. Once you are outside it is a one minute walk to the tram which leaves every 5 minutes. I've never gotten from my plane to hotel so easily or quickly in a metropolitan area.

I think it’s quite obvious that we all know that Florence Airport is a small airport so you wouldn’t expect much compared to some of the bigger airports. Arrivals - I arrived morning on a weekday and the flight from Frankfurt wasn’t full. At the same time there weren’t any other flights that landed so picking up luggage was very smooth and easy. There was no need for immigration (probably because landed from EU country). Going into the city was very smooth and easy. There is a small Visitor Center that speaks English to help. You can buy your tram tickets at the bookshop. Those that rented cars, there is a car rental company shuttle bus just outside that takes you to all the car rental companies place. The shuttle bus comes around 15mins I think. Departure - Very smooth. I departed on a Wednesday evening around 7:15pm flight to Zurich. Check-in was very simple and easy. The security check was very standard. The airport is very small so there aren’t many shops. Obviously there are some restaurant outlets but as I departed on a peak hour, so many of the seats and table were full.

It’s an average size airport but very busy as the layout is quite cramped. Waiting area is also quite limited in seats. Some cafes for snacks and drinks. Signages are bilingual so easy to navigate Tram T2 to the city is just next to the airport which makes its very convenient

First time flying into Florence, and the airport was smaller than I expected. Immigration was quick with only two counters, and baggage claim was right there with just three carousels – very straightforward. Once you step outside, signage is clear and easy to follow. Getting into the city is super convenient. You can hop on the T2 tram just outside the terminal. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the city centre, and only costs €1.50. Trams run every few minutes and drop you right by the main train station. Taxis are also available just outside, costing around €22–25 depending on traffic. All in all, a smooth and stress-free arrival. Florence Airport might be small, but it’s well-organised and easy to navigate – a lovely start to exploring the city!

I was quite disappointed with my experience at the airport. There was a noticeable smell of urine in some areas, which made the environment unpleasant. The airline staff seemed to work very slowly, leading to long waiting times. Many of the self-service machines were out of order, and even the ones that worked still required you to queue up to print your boarding pass, making them almost useless. Overall, the airport needs significant improvements in cleanliness, efficiency, and facilities.

Worst experience in Europe. The worst thing is the security check. The waiting line could reach up to 200 people and 40+ minutes. 2 families including us missed their fight just bcoz of the security check line, even though our baggage was dropped 1 hour before the flight. The other family dropped their baggage 2 hours before. In normal operating hours they only have 4 x-ray machines and metal checkers. At night hours, they operate only 2 machines. Never fly from here. try Pisa airport or Milan airports instead. Disaster

We landed from Barcelona to Florence 2 hours ago. It was my first time here and surprisingly everything went so fast. The sign is clear enough to guide us for the exit way with nothing to declare and to take the tram. We paid 1.70 euros for a single ticket valid for 90 minutes. The machine accepts payment in cash or card.

It's been a while that the airport is under construction. Today, 28 June, it was very busy. However they were not as bad as during Covid. Hard to hear the speaker system. Staff very friendly.
