"Housed in the historic Amherst cinema, this coffee shop doubles as a bar in the evening, so you can start your day in the gorgeous space and work all the way through until happy hour. Freshly baked pastries and a wide selection of thoughtfully sourced teas show up first. As afternoon wears on, wine, beer, and cocktails emerge with trays of oysters and hot dogs with fun toppings. Plan to arrive early during exam season to score a spot, as UMass and Amherst students tend to fill the space, cramming over copious cups of coffee." - Nat Belkov

"Amherst Coffee, a stylish coffee bar that is a must-stop for expertly poured espresso drinks and baked goods. (It also converts into a chic, boozy bar at night.)" - Erika Adams

A delightful place to have a good, strong cup of coffee and relax for a bit. Nice atmosphere. They also serve wine here. Charming, old New England watering hole feel. Usually pretty busy.

Had the pleasure of enjoying Amherst Coffee’s fine brew daily whilst visiting family in Amherst from Australia. As a coffee lover I must admit I was slightly nervous about American coffee but absolutely no worries here. The customer service was exceptional, the staff so professional and friendly. The coffee is amazing and the cocktails are out of this world. Must visit!

Best coffee shop in town. Also a great bar with ample seating. The people working here clearly care about what they’re doing. Great vibes. Don’t miss the chocolate chip cookie.

One of my favorites of all time. Their croissants and cookies are to die for and their baristas make really great drinks. I don’t drink but I hear the bar is wonderful as well at night. I used to come in late at night in college and order a pot of tea and study or read. It’s been a couple years since I’ve been back and I love the newly renovated space but also miss the old space and it’s cozy vibe.

This is a coffee bar by day and cocktail bar by night. We went in the evening. It draws a lively crowd, but not too rambunctious. The cocktail menu is sophisticated and the mixologists are a busy crew. They will mix mocktails on request as well, though none are on the menu. Sitting at the bar allows a front-row seat to watching the drinks get made: private cozy booths and outdoor seating are also available. A fairly 1930s atmosphere thanks to the older building, which they punch up with a low-key vibe and vintage furnishings. No televisions or blasting music here, just a congenial and rather romantic atmosphere and friendly bar staff who will look after you. A small bar menu is more or less limited to olives, nuts, and cheese. Street and lot parking are both nearby. It’s right in downtown Amherst so dining options are everywhere as well as the cinema next door. Not a great pick for kids, obviously, or for rowdy groups. A good date spot. We also saw small groups of friends and study partners at the bar.

I am picky when it comes to my coffee. I ordered a maple latte and it was by far, one of the best I have had in my life. The temperature was absolutely perfect, which isn't easy to do. I had the smoothest drink that was slightly sweet but did not over power the nutty espresso. If I didn't like across the country, I would be back everyday. Awesome coffee here, don't miss out!

I liked the coffee very much. We ordered the chocolate chip cookie, and it was caramelly, crunchy, and chewy simultaneously. The outside seating was surrounded by planters full of pansies in the spring.

Amherst Coffee is by far the best bar in Amherst. The cocktails are creative and well-thought out, the vibe is immaculate (incandescent/candlelit with lots of wood), and the service is personable and open. They could stand on their own in Boston, but in Amherst they stand out and are still 10-20% cheaper than they would be two hours East. Also, the coffee is excellent.
