The Brentwood Italian Restaurant Power Rankings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Amici Brentwood is part of a family of restaurants, including great trattorias like Angelini Osteria. But, like in many families, some children are naturally more "gifted" than others (not that your parents would ever admit it). In this case, Amici is not the shining sibling because it serves bland food. Sure, it has a beautiful brick-walled dining room, pleasant outdoor seating, and an entire parking lot to pull into, but it also feels like a wedding reception with a slashed catering budget: blah food in a lovely setting. Stick to the pastas, especially the spaghetti alla chitarra with enough bottarga to compensate for the lack of flavor in everything else." - sylvio martins, arden shore, brant cox

Surprisingly underwhelming! A very lackadaisical approach to service. Pointing to a table for our party of 4 to sit, in a corner with many boxes of wine stacked. I'm usually happy to sit beside wine bottles and boxes, but not really cheap products, yikes! I expected the service to be warm and welcoming, like many Italian restaurants around Santa Monica and Brentwood. Took a while to approach the table to take only food orders, and not even hinting if we wanted to order any beverages. The atmosphere was upbeat and energetic. The food was as expected, could have been a bit warmer when served. I suspect they were short on staff possibly. I wish they'd pay more attention to service.

As delivery people, we are treated with coldness, and it feels like they don’t want us to even step inside. Sometimes, they make us wait outside for no reason. Especially the tall person with perfectly styled hair who serves wine — whenever they see us, they immediately step away from the door and redirect us to someone else. My education (Computer Engineer) and knowledge are greater than theirs, but this kind of arrogance is unacceptable. I will come as a customer, give a tip to all the staff, and I will never forget how we were treated.

Matthew Mage

Google
Service folks didn't want to be there. They lost the ability to sit outside. The cacio e pepe is $27 and way overpriced and over salty. Lobster overcooked as well. Hopefully they can figure out what's going on.

Amazing, warm, and welcoming. Don’t skip out on the gelato it is some of the best I’ve had, the pistachio flavor you can tell is very fresh real roasted pistachios! Very good experience.

The place is spectacular and the food is great, plus I highly recommend this place!!🤩🤩👨🏻‍🍳

Google
Absolutely one of the best Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. The owner is lovely. The staff is warm and friendly and the food is out of this world. We’re having our graduation celebration at this location because we know it’ll be a wonderful experience. Great place to go for family birthdays, family celebrations because the food is absolutely AMAZING.

Google
My family and I went to Amici Brentwood for the first time and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for great authentic Italian cuisine look no further. The food was fantastic. We were absolutely pleased with everything from the food to the ambience to the service. Our server was Marco and he was phenomenal. The entire staff was great. This restaurant exceeded all our expectations and is now at the top of our list for Italian dining.

Yelp
Amici is one of those rare spots that delivers every single time. The food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the staff--led by the ever-gracious Paulo--makes every visit feel like a special occasion. It's the kind of place where you linger a little longer, knowing you'll leave with a full heart and a happy stomach. Always a memorable evening.

Yelp
Lovely neighborhood restaurant. Wonderful food and staff. A real gem! All the food is delicious! And the ambience is laid back and friendly.

Yelp
It's been a while, over a year that myself and husband had dinner at Amici Brentwood, we've been going there for years always enjoying the experience, we where not sure if things would still be the same but actually, the experience what as good if not better. The food was better then I remembered, the service alway cordial, attentive, with a smile. Highly recommended.

Tim E.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Terrible service. Food, eh. Server was grumpy and was covering entire place.

Kelly H.

Yelp
Grew up going to Amici and it's always so nice to come back to visit every few years when we're in town. The food is always delicious - special shoutout to the white bean dip that comes with the bread (always good) and the mango gelato! We also had a great server this past visit - she was funny, charming and witty and I wish we had caught her name. She made the experience! :)

Yelp
My lady waiter.....RUDE !....making rude comments,we were not hungry so we just share a pizza..and glasses of wine...she didn't like that..she asked me:do you guys want to share a glass of wine!?..wtf???...good food....VERY expensive, but with that treatment..never again!!!

Yelp
My husband and I came here just two days ago, the service was great, food was average (we'd been to their sister restaurant in Pacific Palisades, Angelini which is PHENOMENAL!!), we were hoping for similar experience. Like I said, the food was fine. But the WORST part of our experience was the blaring 80's music. Think New Wave mixed with some heavy metal. Poison in an Italian restaurant? David Bowie? The Smiths? Thompson Twins? I felt like I was eating my meal in my car. I love 80's music, but not while dining in a quaint restaurant. Super off putting.

Yelp
We had a yummy dinner here tonight with our best friends and everyone loved it! We started with a glass of wine from the small, but excellent wine list. The bread basket was also full of different types of bread which was all very good. We had the beet salad, the insalata di campo mista, and the seasonal mixed vegetable soup to start. For dinner we enjoyed lasagne, spaghetti with clams, rigatoni, and the chicken with lemon and caper sauce. We all loved our meals!

Yelp
Not sure if this is a dinner restaurant or why but we came here on a Saturday noon, while all other restaurants in the area were crowded and this place had no one in it before we came. So certainly it was nice and quiet; and the service was prompt because we were the only guests. However, the staff seemed a bit indifferent.... The bread came with a chopped tomato dip which was different from many other places but the taste was just okay. We ordered the ravioli, which was really good, and a salad, which was average, I'd say -- not bad but nothing special. Lunch menu prices seem reasonable. Decor and ambiance look old but classy - probably would be better at night. On the walls near the back there were some old newspapers with reviews - seems like this is an old restaurant with some history. Competition in the food business is pretty intense these days so I hope they survive.

Yelp
Impeccable food. As good as it gets. But what makes a great restaurant is not only the food but the attitude of those who serve its patrons. Rude host and arrogant waiter. Was told restaurant was full when we were the first to arrive. Explained we had a reservation. Asked for a table at window and told that specific table had been reserved one month ago. Asked waiter price of special appetizer and was told he didn't know as if price was irrelevant. Amici will not go out of business because I do not patronize it. But I will find other restaurants to dine where courtesy is valued over haughty behaviors.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious ....KUDOS TO THE CHEF(S) !!!!!!! The staff at Amici Brentwood is unparalleled.....they are very attentive and efficient and EXTREMELY KIND! Constantly surveying your table to make sure the table is cleared and the meal is served promptly! Thank you Sara for being such an excellent waitress and being so patient and attentive to our table!! I can understand why this restaurant is so popular! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AMICI BRENTWOOD ....it deserves "10 STARS" !

Yelp
These guys have canceled on me probably the last six out of 8 attempts to order delivery: AFTER accepting the order and charging my card. Yeah my bad for being such a glutton for punishment and continuing to order from them... But I thought I would give them another chance due to Covid etc. Not even sure why theyre short on drivers when I did it through GrubHub--regardless it's unacceptable and they're rude in the process thus the 1 star since I do actually like their pizza.

Debra M.

Yelp
This rating is mostly for their gelato/sorbet choices. Although the atmosphere is lovely, service was fine, especially for a busy Saturday evening although we were seated early by the door as we had no reservation. That was fine. I wasn't wowed by what I ordered or my daughter's pasta dish but WOW, the dessert did it for me/us. It's made fresh by their maitre d? We got Lemon sorbetto and I can't even describe how over the top amazing it was. SO good, we ordered up a second to share. Then he let us sample his Blueberry and his Nutella. I'll be going back and I'll call first to see what their gelato/sorbetto flavors are and make sure Lemon is on the menu!

Yelp
I dined at this restaurants Sister restaurant in Glendale last week and it was superb. Was looking forward to this Sunday night. Dinner with the family. We ordered the Fritto Misto, which was good a margarita pizza, below average and turkey meatballs, which were so so. we continued with the beet salad with balsamic, which was OK and ordered for pasta dishes. The Cacio E Pepe was terrible as was my daughters lemon pasta that was overpowering with citrus. I had the Bolognese, which was pretty good. The service was decent overall, but the tables are so small that we were always trying to shuffle plates around to make room. Overall, for as pricey as this place is the food is very very average.

Yelp
excellent food - best branzino I have ever had and my wife felt the same about her gnochi. service was stellar; waiter was charming and had a good sense of humor. creme brule... so good. ambiance is Brentwood lovely. parking depends on your luck :) don't let that dissuade you; this is a top notch little italian place on the westside worth coming back to.

Yelp
The worst experience of my life.....I have never been to a restaurant where they charge for hot sauce and they won't inform you in advance. When we brought it up to their attention they tell you that nothing is free. They were very disrespectful and rude. Horrible service, they brought us the wrong food and charged us $95 for a pasta dish when we told them they said " you are horrible people" What kind of a professional restaurant talks to their return customers like that??? Will never go back or recommend

Barbara H.

Yelp
Four of us ate at Amici last night. First we asked for a separate check for the wine we brought which they charge $35 for corkage and they refused . We asked because only two of us were drinking . I checked the menu online and everything was 12 to $15 an item more then posted. The calamari was delicious. But three of us had short ribs and it was chewy and stringy like pot roast. Very disappointing. They would not give us Separate Checks and some of our bills differed by $25 each so we had to spend 30 minutes trying to figure out what we each owed. Very mood spoiling. Will never go back there.

Yelp
Food here was great, not sure why they receive average reviews. Ambience and service was lovely as well. Gonna add this to our neighborhood repertoire!

Yelp
If you are looking for a great Italian experience this is the place to start. That Lady and I met friends for a quiet dinner. The location is excellent and dining inside or outside is per your pleasure. The selections are impressive, the food preparation is spot on and the service excellent. We were under the care of Marco, who saw to our every need and helped with suggestions. Everything is light and tasty. Surprisingly, the salads and appetizers can stand alone as a meal or substitute for a light repast, satisfying and tasty. Nobody handles fish better than this kitchen. That Lady selected sole, relying on Marco's recommendation. Well he shot up in her esteem, as her at matched her favorite fish place in Geneva. The dining room allows for easy conversations. Good bar and cellar. Easy parking street or lot. Price are very reasonable for the quality, level of service and ambiance.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants! They have the most delicious minestrone soup of all time. The pizza and pastas are to die for. It's a super quaint cozy place with very nice staff. My husband and I love going there for dinner. Oh and the meatballs are outstanding!!!

Yelp
SHAME on Amici management. Went there tonight for dinner with three young children for a 5:45 pm reservation. The kids were speaking in a loud voice as kids do. Half way into our dinner an angry patron approached out table mask-less and began berating us because our children were "ruining his dinner and everyone's else". The interaction was scary and unpleasant, he would not leave our table. It terrified our children. The WORST part, the management / owner could not care less and did not come to our aid as were were being verbally harassed by an angry man as our children sat there in fear. He said the patron was entitled to his actions. Our party felt unsafe being there. To top it off: THERE WAS A HAIR IN OUR FOOD. Save your money and visit another local Brentwood restaurant with better customer service and management.

Yelp
I had a delicious meal. The arancini was flavorful with a bit of heat. I didn't realize there would be no meat but it didn't matter. Very tasty. Could have been a bit crisper. Shrimp scampi was delicious. I prefer a little more garlic. It is wonderfully paired with bitter greens, olive oil and spinach. Very nice. The gelato and sorbet were a perfect end to the meal. All served by a wonderful staff. Thank you. :)

Yelp
Made reservations today through Open Table for the first time eating at the restaurant but we we're completely underwhelmed by the non-welcome we received and it did not improve through dinner. The food was fine but it became apparent that our waiter and I presume the manager seemed to be totally disinterested in interacting with us to the point I felt we were imposing on their time just by ordering. Perhaps a remedial class in how to treat one's customers might help. We won't go back as there are so many quality restaurants in the area that truly care about their customers.

Yelp
Food: Decent Service: We walked in on a Saturday evening (had reservations) and it took awhile before someone asked us if we needed a table. I think it may have been the host, not sure but he seemed to busy to bother walking all the way to front to greet us, so he forgot about us. Never came by. Then a waiter, maybe, asked if we had been helped and I said not really. Then it got worse with the semi-annoyed and semi-rude Brunnette waitress we got. She was not genuine, more like fake and not happy to be serving us. Will not return here.

Judy K.

Yelp
Very expensive Branzino for having no taste and such small amount! Slow service. Ok ambiance
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a real (somewhat) hidden gem on the southwest corner of 26th and San Vicente. There is a parking lot in the back. The food is typical Italian with a focus on homemade pasta. They offer entrees like fish and steak in addition to some nice salads. For an appetizer I would recommend the arancini risotto balls. The ambiance is romantic and the restaurant is bigger than it looks from the outside!
google avatar

Yelp
Pizza delivery. Awful pastry, missing ingredients (marguerita is likely a lonely muzzarrela). Very acid tomato sauce

Yelp
Marco is the man. Best waiter we have ever had. Treated us like royalty. Seriously! Ask for Marco! He's seriously the man. Best waiter.

Yelp
So wanted to check this place out bc we wanted to try something new. Made a reservation on open table, clearly stating that we wanted to sit inside. The host, or manager, kept insisting that we should sit outside. We just didn't want to sit on the sidewalk, so we were finally sat inside after asking the 3rd time... the host/ manager was kind of rude, dismissive a little argumentative and not very accommodating. The food was GOOD, but the ambiance was kind of crap. Won't be back. I say go to Toscana or Vicente to get both Italian food and a welcoming atmosphere. I felt more of a bother coming here, the vibe was just so off.

Yelp
The Best Pasta of My Life 5 years later, I'm shocked to still be giving this place 5 stars but there you have it. It's been a while since my last visit, easily more than a year or two. I think my husband and I ordered takeout one night during the pandemic and found it lackluster so I was slightly concerned about what I might find tonight but it's such a love temple, I thought I'd drop by... and love temple it still is, I'm happy to say. The owner, the waiters, the support staff could not be kinder, more attentive or genuinely warm -- it was such a beautiful, personal welcome back, it was more than I had hoped for. On top of that, I just ate what was legitimately the best plate of pasta I can recall having in my life. That is not an exaggeration and I lived in Italy for a year. Frankly, I'm gobsmacked. Stunned. But the truth is the truth: the spaghetti with Maine Lobster and heirloom tomatoes was transcendent. I'm not saying this lightly. I realize this sets up a lot of expectations for anyone reading this. Though the food here (for me) has always been good enough (reliably tasty, if not amazing) the spaghetti tonight is a meal I will remember until the day I die. Honestly, I'm scared to come back and have it again in case it disappoints in any way -- I don't want this perfect memory to be tainted. I mean, once you have achieved perfection, where else can you go??? But yeah, wow. I'm shocked. THE. BEST. PASTA. OF. MY. LIFE. There. That's my review.

Yelp
I came here for dinner the other night and was not impressed. While the restaurant is pretty nice inside, the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered a pasta dish which came with chicken, broccoli, and what was described as a spicy tomato sauce. While the pasta was cooked well (perfectly al dente), the sauce had barely any flavor and was definitely not spicy at all. The chicken and broccoli were cooked fine, but didn't have any seasoning on them. The dish could have used some seasoning, such as garlic or chili pepper, because it was very bland. It was also fairly pricey given the small portion size, but I guess that can be expected given where this restaurant is located. While there was no trouble finding parking the night I was there (a weeknight), I expect that parking could be difficult here on a weekend, so expect to have to valet your car if you come here on a weekend. If you're in the area and craving Italian food, don't waste your time or money by coming here. Head up the street to Pizzicotto and have some authentic, homemade, delicious Italian food.
google avatar

N S.

Yelp
I can't understand why this place doesn't have 5 stars. One of the few AUTHENTIC Italian restaurants in all of LA Sure it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. It seems all the bad reviewers have taste buds that have been polluted by Italian Americanized trash restaurants like the Olive Garden and your local pizza sub shop. This place cannot and should not be compared to any of those. Salads, soups, pasta, pizza and meats are all phenomenal. Bread is excellent, fresh baked. Some of the best Italian food I've had in Los Angeles after traveling Italy and studying Italian culture and food for over 10 years. I did the work for you. Go here.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday night. Beautiful breeze outside. The tables outside were full. The service was terrible. The owner or manager asks what we want. He says "I have 30 seconds here to wait for you. We weren't ready yet, so he went in his way. When we were ready, we ordered. When my order came it was a spaghetti dish with Parmesan cheese on top. It was very salty but I didn't order this. I order Rigatoni al Norma which was a tomato sauce (light) with eggplant and a vegetable. I sent the spaghetti back with the Parmesan cheese in an oil based sauce, not tomato. I told the waiter I asked for the rigatoni. They brought me the same dish with rigatoni instead of the one I ordered with the vegetables.?There was not a rigatoni plate with the oil sauce I received. I didn't send it back since they were very busy and my date's food was getting cold waiting for me. The staff was VERY rushed, so the service was terrible. I would not suggest this place and I won't be going again. Thank you for reading. By the way, the second dish that I ate but didn't order was very salty too.

Robert R.

Yelp
This is one of the local gems in Brentwood. There is a reason that it has a very loyal clientele of everyone from locals to celebrities. The food is good, the ambiance is cozy, the staff is incredibly friendly. If you are looking for the flashy, once a year dinner, do NOT go there. It is wonderful Northern Italian, but it is elegant in its simplicity, and that's why so many of their customers--who could go anywhere--come there once a week or more. Don't believe the folks who complain. They want to be seated in 5 minutes, want a discount, want some flash. This is NOT that kind of place. But, if you want to feel at home, have a great meal, be cozy and feel like you're in an (elegant) casual family setting with good people, this may be the gem of Brentwood.

K A.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING alert. I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened and never had a bad meal until last night. I ate the special dover sole and ended up with food poisoning. I called to alert the restaurant and didn't appreciate the attitude telling me I had the flu. No fever, no chills - it was the fish!

C C.

Yelp
Amici food is below par. Manager weird, moody, temperamental. I can get better Italian food ANYWHERE ELSE.

Bill M.

Yelp
Nice Atmosphere, place was lively on a Saturday night. We had a Pizza for an appetizer it was undercooked, sauce was fair at best. Had Chicken Parmesan as main course, the vegetables it was served with were better then the Chicken..The upside was service was good..Downside I felt $200 bucks for 2 glasses of house red, a lousy pizza, 2 ok chicken Chicken Parmesans and a 1/2 order of pasta bolognese not worth it...

Yelp
I will be back, if even just for the white bean dip and tomatoes. YUM! I ordered the corkscrew pasta with mushroom, peas and subbed Chicken for the Italian sausage. It was so delicious! The service was fairly good and they were very accommodating. We were the last guests in the restaurant and they kindly let us stay and visit while the restaurant was being cleaned up. They never rushed us and made us feel right at home! :) AND the cherry on top? Free cookies with a dark chocolate dip! MmmmMmmMmm

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Ambiance is great and servers are very kind. Can't wait to come back!

Debora H.

Yelp
Went there with our friends. The food was delicious. The staffs were nice and very respectful. Will definitely going back to this place.

Jami S.

Yelp
Would have been nice if they came around to ask how the food was - terrible. No such luck. I guess they figured they were busy so everyone must be happy. My entre was the worst excuse for ravioli I have EVER had. My husband's entre was also mediocre. We were there with friends so it was our treat. Nice looking restaurant. Maybe try harder on the food.

Logan B.

Yelp
5 stars for Amici Brentwood! I'm not sure why it only has 3.5 on yelp currently because it is definitely way better than that! We had great, quick service with kind waiters who were very attentive. The food was amazing and very authentic. We had bruschetta with white beans in Florence and loved to see the bread come with a dish of this spread as well as tomato + basil on the side. We both ordered gnocchi with different sauces and thought both the pesto and bolognese were very high quality. The panna cotta was amazing and definitely worth checking out - pretty sure the ice cream it came with was homemade. Ambiance is great too; it felt formal and classy although pasta prices were pretty reasonable especially for Brentwood. They have parking out back and some street parking as well. This place is a gem!

Maryn B.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. We made a reservation on OpenTable and we're greeted immediately upon entry. Tables were well distanced for covid with heaters during dinner time. All staff were wearing masks and face shields. Our waiter made delicious recommendations on wine - both red and white Italian. Both the Arancini and Meatball appetizers were great sharables for a table of five guests. Would definitely return to this quaint and quiet spot!

Yelp
My friend made a last minute decision to visit this place for the first time. The service was great and they bent over backwards to fulfill our requests. Before our order came in, we were treated to toasted flatbread and regular baked bread to whet our appetites. We started with the fried calamari and seafood appetizer. The dish had a good serving of shrimp, calamari and fried zucchini. It came with an interesting red sauce that was a little tart, a little sour, and a little spicy, all in balance. Our main course was the special of the day, a half lobster with a serving of spaghetti. The pasta was cooked slightly al dente, lightly covered in a subtle red sauce with ripe red cherry tomatoes and arugula as a topping. The lobster was a little over cooked and a little on the tough side, and also needed a bit more butter. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal. We did not order dessert, but the server was nice enough to bring us a plate of Italian style cookies with a chocolate syrup dipping sauce. There are more items I would like to try on the menu, but for now, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for upscale, quality Italian food.

Adriana B.

Yelp
Searching for places to eat in the area and this place popped up. I don't normally leave reviews but I feel compelled as the food was absolutely exquisite and the service was unmatched, Diego, our waiter, had the best interpersonal skills and attention to detail. In our case, good service makes all the difference!!! Thumbs up to the food and service.

Yelp
Looking to be underwhelmed? The menu had such promise. First bread, chopped tomatoes and some sort of dip or salad dressing arrived. The tomatoes were very out of season. The dip was unrecognizable. The bread was not great. My gemelli with spicy red sauce, broccoli and chicken was sort of nothing. Not really spicy. Chicken was bland. Should have been broccolini instead of broccoli. Not a great recipe. It's a neighborhood place that probably has a local following.

Yelp
Very cute place, valet parking, great service, and love the bread and the bruschette and some sort of white bean hummus they have. We got the clams pasta and all of our pasta was slightly undercooked by a smidge. Yummy tho.
