The Most Beautiful National Park Beaches in the U.S.

"Home to some of the best beaches in Texas, Padre Island has the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world, much of which is protected by the underrated Padre Island National Seashore. The park only has one vehicle entrance and a few miles of paved roads, meaning the shores here are quiet and crowd-free. All the better to appreciate the site's wildlife populations, including 380 bird species and baby sea turtles hatching along the coast. While you can set up an umbrella on one of the beaches here and leave whenever you like, we recommend bringing a tent and camping directly on the sand for a few dollars per night." - Caitlin Morton

This review is of the Amistad National Recreation Area Visitor Center. It is open 7 days a week and almost every day of the year. When we visited, the rangers/staff were happy to see us and were very kind. The displays take up most of one room but were definitely worth a quick stop and check. We especially liked the artifacts and reproductions of artifacts. Those are always interesting to see. They also had a display of animal skulls and tracks that I'm sure younger kids would have been even more fascinated than me. Well, my 12 year old brain enjoyed them and was amazed at how fierce something that size seems. If visiting the area, check it out next time.

Nice place to camp for a few days. Beautiful scenery. The road noise is constant but bearable. Only $10 per night. Water spigots here and there.

It was fun making our way around the Lake Amistad National Recreation Area. The lake is very low, but what's left of it is very beautiful. The visitor's center is a wonderful place to start your visit since it is filled with lots of great information and historical data about the entire area. It's right off of Highway 90 and really easy to find. We decided to hike the Sunrise Trail after asking a ranger lots of questions because it is pretty easy to navigate and only about a mile and a half long. Even after talking to the ranger, it was very difficult to find this trail because it starts at a boat business parking lot and signage is not very good. The hardest part of the trail is finding it. It's mostly flat with a few hills. After the trail, we went to the Governor's Landing area and used our camp chairs to relax by the lake and watch others fish, including some people who were part of a big bass fishing tournament. This is a wonderful place to get close to nature and take in some great views.

This small visitor center is amazing due to the rangers. The gentleman who did junior ranger with the kids was one of the most informative we have ever had the pleasure of speaking to. There isn't a huge amount going on at the visitor center, but they have some great info on a spread of topics about the area and a video to watch. We want to come back when the lake is higher because we saw lots of wildlife around and the pictographs look epic.

We had a good time first time here it was at Diablo East swimming area... It was a area that I found on the Amistad Recreational Area. It was windy that day we planned on running a boat but they wouldn't ran to us for caution in the winds. I would say that you have to be an experienced swimmer to swim here They do not have any kind of beach to sit on or playing the water is deep within just a couple of feet I recommend if you take children to make sure they have a life vest on.

Beautiful place looking out over the bridge and the lake. There is road noise. We have our own toilet but there are vault toilets. When there is not a total fire ban, a wood burning barbecue and a fire ring. There are seats and a covered table at the sites. $10.00 a night in April 2024.

Beautiful lake and the views of it and the bridge are stunning. Best visitor's center around. Nice exhibits to view. The rangers were friendly and helpful. Cleanest bathrooms anywhere in this part of the state!

Yelp
The water levels are down. This is through no fault of the NPS! The water is still crystal clear. There is still abundant birds and other wildlife. The camping areas are in good shape. The Hq and Interpretive Center are nice and well staffed. And the blue of the lake is "other worldly" against the backdrop of desert. I'm lucky to live on a bordering property.

Yelp
This place was a nice stop on our trek down to Laredo. It was nice to lay on the dock and watch the boats go by.

Yelp
I recommend visiting here. It looks like the Bahamas with white sands but there is no sand. It's all rock. It's a fresh water lake. My mom daughter an 8 pound bass and I caught a 3.5 lb bass. Catfish, striper bass, small mouth bass, perch. Wear your good shoes when going to the launches. They are some steep walks.
