Naxos, Greece, Is Often Overlooked by Tourists, but It Has Some of the Best Beaches in the Country — How to Visit

"Find yourself on the shores of Plaka Beach, feeling every sea breeze and smelling the salty air during a stay at Ammothines Cycladic Suites. The retreat-style hotel has a contemporary design, including minimalist rooms with balconies covered by thatched roofing, a private pool filled with milky blue water, and direct beach access. The property is also home to a delicious on-site restaurant serving old family-style recipes using locally sourced products. It's also happy to teach you a thing or two in the kitchen with its hands-on cooking lessons. That way, you can return home and share the Naxos food experience with your friends and extended family." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We loved staying here. The staff were super friendly, the pool and beach area were perfect. The aesthetics of the room and the whole place matched exactly what we wanted. We loved being away from the crowds at the more popular beaches. The hotel also has a great small gym for calisthenics and weight lifting workouts. Excellent food and drinks. A beautiful well kept garden throughout. Will be back.

This is an amazing hotel! it's was the best stop on our trip this week. We only had 2 days here but completely fell in love with the island and the hotel. Perfect location outside of town was 10 minute taxi trip into town. The beach was beautiful and only a few steps from the hotel and you had a member of staff to help take any bar orders. The food was great quality and fresh. The staff were brilliant so friendly, approachable and helpful. The hotel room was beautiful simplictic but calming and very clean. We really hope to come back here at some point.

Beautiful. Comfortable. Great food. Friendly and attentive staff. Best beach. The Ammothines Cycladic Suites were the perfect choice for our honeymoon. We went in early October and the weather was perfect and the crowds were gone. Heavenly experience.

This is a boutique hotel with 16 rooms on Naxos. The service is very good, and it is family run with high attention to detail. It seems that everything is done with intention. The pool is great, and the beach across the road is easy to access, with 50% reduction in price for beach beds (25 euro a day for hotel guests). While I wish hotel guests would not have to pay extra for beach beds, this was the best deal we received while travelling several Greek islands this summer. This hotel is a distance from town so a car is recommended, but there were hotel guests using taxis and the area does have many beach bars and restaurants along the main road. But you would need a car to get into main town and see other parts of the island. The food was very good and all made fresh on site. Breakfast is not buffet style, but each day a new main dish is prepared. I thought very good. The hotel set up is actually beautiful and I don’t think pictures on the internet do it justice. It does have a rural locale with horses nearby (so if that is not your scene- including a somewhat rural scent at times- you might not enjoy). I really loved it and if ever back in Naxos, would definitely return- all aspects of this hotel scream attention to detail, and we had a really fabulous stay for 5 days. We had a second floor room with a large patio area and sweeping views of the sea. Enjoy!!

Naxos is one of the more chill islands, and the Ammothines was a perfect place for our honeymoon stay. The facilities are new -- they opened in 2021, but the views, services, and location are wonderful if you want to wind down and relax as part of a trip to Greece. Odysseas was friendly even before I arrived. He helped setup transport from the airport, which in important because there are no Ubers on Naxos. Prearranged travel or car rental is the way to go. All the guests get a welcome drink when they arrive, and he let us check in a bit early and check out a bit late, which we appreciated. Their breakfast options are also very solid, and included, and they have beach chairs that are attached to the hotel but require a $5-per-person-per-day rental, but they are well worth it. Also, their poolside beds are really fun. In addition to standard beach chairs, they have what I can only describe as beach-mattresses that are so soft and waterproof that they lend themselves to a nice nap post meal or a swim. It's a family-run business and it really felt that way. We felt extremely welcomed and valued, and I would love to come back here someday. The grounds are very pretty with flowers and shrubbery everywhere.

The hotel was beautiful. Located right across from the beach you can either grab a towel and walk down or grab a day bed where Aris takes excellent care of you with food and drink service. The pool is gorgeous and restaurant is delicious, the servers Eve and Xristina are fantastic! Sitting at the bar was the most fun where Michael and Argiro mix up anything you would like! All the staff are super friendly and helpful. Definitely would come back :)

When we booked we opted to change rooms due to last minute /lack of availability. Both rooms were amazing! Spacious, clean, nicely decorated, with a great sea view. The service at the pool/ restaurant / beach was amazing! All staff was super friendly and helpful! They learnt/ remembered my son’s name and every day took time to talk to him. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was great! Lots of sweet and savoury options for breakfast, freshly made. Interesting lunch/dinner menu, very well cooked and delicious food! The menu for the pool/ beach was great too! We loved the “τυροπιταρι» (cheese dough with honey) and the “πορτοκαλοπιτα» (orange cake) !! Nice wine list too! The beach in front of the hotel is much better than any other places at Plaka. You do have to pay for the sunbeds (discounted price) but it is worth it… The owner was a sweet lady who told us about the island and the area and gave us ideas for things to do / places to visit. We loved everything and every minute of our holiday! We are hoping to come back next year!

Stay somewhere else. ||We just stayed there for 3 nights because it was highly listed on the recommended lists. What they don’t tell you in those lists are the details.||I give this property a 2 star rating strictly because the property is just beautiful and rates a 4/5. But while the rooms are beautiful they lack the luxury items that should come at the price you pay for staying there. The rooms lack place to put your luggage (no tacks provided), the toiletry products are basic not luxury company such as Diptique.||It says your breakfast is included and it is but it is truly just basic - there is no breakfast buffet - you choose one item and they bring it to you and not always at the same time. Service is slow, coffee gets cold, nothing is in synch. Breakfast starts at 8 am because there is no one who shows up for work till then.||Lunch options are good.||Service is really poor - there was no one at the reception when we arrived and when we were leaving. They had to call someone to show up. Reception area is bare. Receptionists are not very welcoming nor are the owners who see you but do not say hello. They really do not know the meaning of hospitality here.||Parking is available but tight and it is advisable to not to bring a larger car as you will not be able to park in those spots.||Overall I do not recommend this place based on any selection criteria.||Rating (based on scale of 5) 2|Overall Value for Money. 1|Room. 4|Food. 1|breakfast. 1|Lunch. 3|Service. 2|Recommend. NO||Stay somewhere else - no need to pay these prices and fall below expectations in all categories.
