Best Restaurant Dishes Eater NY Editors Ate This Week, September 8, 2025 | Eater NY

"Raw bars may rule summer, but fall is prime time for oysters, so a friend and I went big at this Mediterranean seafood spot near Union Square. We settled into a cozy window table with a flower box overlooking a garden — so picturesque it felt like a country house — and ordered the raw bar plate ($77), a showstopper with large langoustines perched on the rim and other sea creatures, sourced internationally, scattered over ice. The spread offered a playful variety of textures and flavors, from velvety tuna to silky salmon, and the little vials of raspberry and mango vinaigrette added bright acidity and gentle sweetness. It was such a fun feast, with shells glistening so beautifully, we were tempted to take them home as souvenirs." - Nadia Chaudhury

Amo, a New Italian Restaurant, Opens in NYC

"Opened near Union Square at the end of July and run by Italians including chef Pasquale Cozzolino, the restaurant takes a seafood-forward, regionally adventurous approach to Italian cooking, mixing sections labeled “Mediterranean sashimi” and “Neapolitan ceviche” with more familiar fare. Notable dishes include a “mozzarella in ‘tempura’” — a panko-crusted bufala ball formed into a sheet to swaddle tuna tartare seasoned with lemon zest, sansho pepper, basil, and tomato, then fried and sauced at the table — and raw red shrimp tartare served on spaghetti. The chef has built a specialized supply chain to import blast-frozen Mediterranean seafood kept at around -60 °C so it arrives sashimi-fresh, preserving sweetness and texture in ways he says were previously rare in New York. Little touches like anchovy-flecked focaccia and a deliberate willingness to pair cheese with seafood underscore the spot’s intent to break from typical New York Italian conventions." - Tammie Teclemariam

A great Italian seafood place, we enjoyed all of our dishes. I personally loved the texture of the pasta, freshly made but still al dente. The crab pasta was very yummy. The restaurant is very nicely decorated but it’s not great for noise. One party was being loud and it became extremely hard to hear what anyone on my table was saying. Pay with Inkind app and save tons of money!

I highly recommend this restaurant. As soon as you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a chic and very private atmosphere. We started our experience with two appetizers, both very good. To continue we ate two pasta dishes and those also highlighted the impeccable quality of the raw materials. As for the service, it was excellent and very professional even if we had long waits between one meal and another. I am curious to return soon to try other dishes. I consider the restaurant excellent for those who love eating seafood.

You know that rare kind of pleasure that’s full of passion? That’s AMO. A beautiful explosion of flavors and aromas that instantly transport you back to memories, into vibes, and deep into a sensory world of emotion. The food? Absolutely unforgettable. Unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you… because it doesn’t just satisfy your taste buds, it awakens all your senses. Truly one of the most memorable and tasty experiences in NYC. Amazing!

Had a 6:00 pm reservation, believing it would be very busy on a Saturday night in December as so many restaurants are. It wasn’t, even when we left a little after 8:00 the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Walk-ins could get a table easily. Calamari appetizer was good, but the shrimp on it was only okay. Entrees were fine but nothing special. Food was not hot, only warm at best. (When we ordered there was only one other table in restaurant and they already had their food). Have had much better seafood and Italian elsewhere. The Italian spider crab entree is very unique. However, nothing is provided to be able to open the very hard crab claws to be able to eat the meat out of them. A lot of the crab is wasted because of this. Ambience is nice, attractive little restaurant.

You can get $25 off through the link on my profile. First impression was really good, thanks to the gorgeous interior and extremely friendly staff. The complimentary octopus appetizer was also very tasty. I can’t say I enjoyed the seafood entrees as much, though, as they did not taste fresh at all. The crab pasta was better than the octopus entree. With a discount, the whole meal not too bad, but I’m not sure it’s worth the full price. Still, I can see many people enjoying it, and the vibes are really great.

Amiamo Amo Seafood! We are first time diners. It is perfectly located just south of Union Square. Google Maps integration with Resy made booking here a snap. We were welcomed to the upscale space by our server Carmelo. The space is typical of a NYC restaurant. It's romantic, lively, youthful and family friendly space. We began with classic cocktails (Negroni and Vesper Martini) 👍👍which went down easy. The Mozzarella in Tempura small plate was a creative fusion of iconic Italian starters. Our entrees included the Milanese di Pesce Spada and the Polp-AMO e Patata Contadina and delivered great flavors with reasonably generous portions. Our Italian wines paired very nicely. For dessert we enjoyed an Affogato and Cassata with a sweet end. Carmelo was an excellent guide. We appreciated his siggestions. He and his assistant provided just the perfect pace attentive service. It was a leisurely dinner that we enjoyed very much.

Google
Food was good and the crab pasta could have used more seasoning (could just be me) however service could have been better. When we went, the restaurant was basically empty with the exception of a large party in the back. Food did take about 30 minutes to come out and only one waiter. We were ready for the check and he was no where to be found for a good 15-20 minutes.

Google
overall good, but a few things could be improved. the appetizers were really good. the eggplant parm tasted different than most standard ones but was still good. the eggplant is crispy and wrapped around a cheesy tomato filling. the fried mozzarella was also good, it comes with tuna tartare inside and a nice tomato sauce. i would not recommend the lobster trio. the lobster croquette was the same size, if not smaller, than the amuse bouche. it was about the size of a thumbnail. the trio comes with a small salad and a small lobster tail, not much food for the price, even if it was tasty. the lobster linguine was good. the tail is cut open and the claw is pre cracked but not opened. so you’ll get pasta sauce on your hands opening it. also they did not crack the area around the knuckle, so there is no way of getting the meat there. the lemon tiramisu was light and nice, not very strongly lemon flavored. the lemon cake tasted more like an olive oil cake and was quite dense.

Yelp
Walked in randomly on a Friday night for early dinner. We ordered the crab pasta, risotto and mixed seafood and everything was absolutely delicious! I'm usually not a huge risotto fan but theirs was so flavorful and creamy! The seafood was fresh and the portions were generous. Big shoutout to Carmelo (the manager) who was super friendly and accommodating. Service was great from start to finish. A very elegant and modern date spot!

Yelp
I recently dined at Amo Seafood in NYC, and it was a bit of a rollercoaster -- but one I'm glad I took. Let me start with what worked beautifully. The crab pasta (they call it Granseola, their version of spider-crab) is genuinely excellent. The pasta holds up (not mushy), and the sweet crab meat really shines through the sauce -- a creamy tomato base with enough brightness to keep it from feeling heavy. It's one of the best preparations of crab pasta I've had in the city. The octopus entrée also delivered. It was tender (not rubbery, thankfully) and had those char marks that hint at good grilling technique. The accompanying citrusy/fennel/accent components lifted it, giving it brightness to balance the richness.

Yelp
Somewhere between great and fantastic. Amo is a restaurant where you can get real, fresh, whole, langoustines, as if you're actually in Italy, and it's worth four stars just based off that. Also, the spider crab pasta (Granseola) is one of the most photogenic dishes out right now. As far as quality of food, I thought: Raw: 5/5 (carried by the langoustines) Apps: 5/5 Pasta: 3/5 Mains: 4/5 The pasta menu seems ambitious, and we ordered four pastas. My friends didn't complain, but the orecchiette was not good, I didn't think the clams were fresh. The granseola pasta ends up being hard to eat and, even while not drinking wine, hard to appreciate the subleties of. The gnocchi tasted like there was poorly rendered fish stock in it. I felt like work was needed in every dish. We were really happy with the mains, for which we ordered steak and the whole fish. High quality restaurant with an ease of making reservations that exposes how broken TikTok-ification is. Hopefully it gets more traction.

Yelp
Carmelo made our experience exceptional. We had a bottle of white to begin with, the langoustines, and red Sicilian shrimp. We had half a dozen oysters that were well shucked and delicious. The clams with spaghetti, and crab with chili flakes pasta was fantastic. The pasta was fresh and well cooked. The swordfish was amazing, it was fresh and well cooked. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!

Yelp
I think this place has a lot of charm and possibility and ultimately we enjoyed our experience here and think it was worth trying, but wouldn't necessarily come back. The menu has a ton of stuff and can be a bit overwhelming because I wasn't ready for so many seafood options (in a good way). We ultimately started with the fried calamari/shrimp. It's a little unfair to call this a shrimp dish as there were a total of two shrimp. The calamari were pretty standard. I enjoyed the lightness of the frying and the fried accompaniments on top. The sauce was necessary as otherwise there wouldn't be much flavor, but the portion size was perfect. For mains we grabbed two dishes: granseola and polp-AMO. The granseola is what everyone seems to get and aesthetically this dish is beautiful (spider crab with spaghettoni). There is a fair amount of crab meat and I appreciated the texture of the cherry tomatoes. But ultimately it was a skosh too bland and I wish it had had more of a personality (either choose it to be buttery, spicy, garlicy, etc.). The octopus was an incredible portion with 8 legs. They were charred to excellence. I didn't totally understand the concept of yuca chips on top of a potato puree and didn't feel like the dots of sauce along the plate did much. I could easily see someone thinking this was too salty, but I didn't mind that. The service was so attentive on a Saturday night that wasn't so busy. It did take a while between intros/ordering food which was strange but after that everything was smooth. Appreciated the lobster croquettes to start the meal off. I will say one thing I hope they iron out a bit more are the prices. Everything is just a BIT too expensive (fried calamari for $26 is just not justifiable). To have 12 "small plates" but only one of them under $20 (which was not one of the 3 salad options) is a strange choice.

Yelp
Be careful when eating the food I had a plastic piece in the focaccia. The waiter didn't know what to do. The manager took the focaccia off the bill but acted like it's not a big deal

Yelp
Major side notes: Prices are slightly higher than what is listed online for at least some dishes and the menu has changed a bit (such as not having the bacalao anymore) with some dishes also potentially changing descriptions. I was at this nice new Italian spot from the owners of the nearby Ribalta earlier in the evening with 6 others. The restaurant serves primarily seafood from Naples and Sicily and while not everything worked, the majority of dishes were outstanding and the food quality was definitely high with some unique tasty options compared to most Italian spots. The staff was friendly. I didn't bother with a cocktail though some of them were interesting with the prices ranging from $18 to $22 mostly along with a good selection of wines by the glass. Speaking of prices as noted above, the prices of some dishes have gone up by a couple bucks and a few dishes are missing from the menu and I kind of wish I took some photos of the menu due to said changes. They gave us a bite consisting of a thin bread which was almost like a cracker topped with whipped butter and a small amount of caviar. This was essentially designed for one bite but the butter was a overpowering. I think it either needed a bit less butter or some type of citrus (or possibly balsamic glaze or something) to tone it down a bit. This still was appreciated and got the palate going. As appetizers, we went with two tartare for us to share and both of them came with yucca chips which was a unique spin. The Big Fin Red Tuna with bergamot zest, parsley puree, and yuzu gelee consisted of high quality tuna and there was plenty of it though said citrus and parsley was a bit light. The latter tartare, the Mediterranean Hamachi with Sorrento lemon zest, oregano, and datterini (or plum) tomato puree, was also good. Also very high quality fish and in this case, the citrus was more present. Both were tasty with a slight preference to the tuna as I found the cut to be better but I would say that the flavors were a bit light for both of them and it was more good because of the high quality fish. We otherwise got five main dishes to share. The best of a bunch was the most expensive which was the Granseola or squared spaghettoni, Italian spider crab, and datterini tomato sauce. Granseola apparently means said spider crab which makes sense as this was the star of the plate as it consisted of said shell along with the head with the top having been removed and placed on top of the pasta with the rest of the head below (which contained a lot of meat.) Said spaghettoni refers to a thick spaghetti which had a great texture and the pasta had plenty of crab in it. The dish was a tad messy due to the crab pieces below and they weren't open so the only way to go on it was to either (easily) bite it open or struggle with utensils (I think it needs something else to crack the crab pieces open so teeth aren't needed for it.) An extra napkin is necessary for this dish (especially for the head) but it was a very delicious one and I would highly recommend it if you don't mind getting messy. The rest of the group loved the Polp-Amo E Patata Contadina or marinated octopus with sweet pepper confit, sweet pepper sauce, and yucca chips. The sauce was apparently excellent which I'm not surprised at as I've had patata contadina prior which is a delicious potato/tomato mix and they gave plenty of octopus. While I could not try it personally, I would recommend it based on their opinions. I was also a fan of the Milanese Di Pesce Spada or breaded fried swordfish with baba ghanoush with Calabrian red chilis, Sorrento lemon juice, Sicilian olives, almond, Sicilian orange gelee, and parsley puree. The fish was perfectly fried and very meaty compared to most fried fish I've had. The various nicely plated side sauces helped with the richness. If you're looking for an elegant Italian take on fried fish, I would recommend this. The Branzino K'e Kazz with broccoli rabe and smoked mozzarella fondue was fine. The branzino was perfectly cooked though I would say that it was less worth it then most of the other dishes as the fish was much plainer than I thought it would be. Said fondue was more of a sauce on top and while it went with the well sauteed broccoli rabe, it was a bit light with the fish. If you're looking for a plainer well cooked fish, it's fine but less notable. Least favorite was the Tonno Tataki or Italian red tuna steak marinated in ponzu, green sweet pepper, and datterini tomatoes. While the tuna was well seared with 7 good sized chunks, the ponzu flavor was very light so it was a bit bland. It didn't really remind me of tataki in anyway. The staff left us to chat which was unexpected and we eventually got the check and left. While not everything worked, I hope this place does well. It's probably closer to a 4 than a 5 but I'll bump it up a bit so they get a bit of a boost.

Yelp
From the Ribalta Pizza team another hit. This time focusing on Italian seafood. Currently in its soft opening phase. Great food and excellent service. Amo Seafood is more of a neighborhood spot that is easy to get into. Wonderful spot for quiet Sunday dinner.

Yelp
Heard some terrible words about this place but actually it's fine. I had a great time. The only dish I'm not fond of is the lobster. Probably because I don't really enjoy lobster.

Yelp
The space is beautiful, the staff was incredible and the food was 10/10. It was completely empty and I can't understand why. Maybe a bit pricey but so are dozens of other restaurants around here! We had two different types of pasta and the branzino and it was all delicious. Please come eat here it would break my heart if they closed:(

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate my birthday, and we had a great time! The food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were fantastic. The atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion, and the staff made us feel welcomed. I would recommend this place for a memorable night out!

Yelp
Ribalta team does it again. Amazing experience, fresh seafood cooked like you were in Italy, staff is knowledgeable about the ingredients and ready to handle allergies. Great wine list also!

Yelp
Sashimi is a fresh import from the Mediterranean Sea. It is so delicious. Citrus sauce is nicely added to salmon sashimi. Sicilian white wine is so smooth and silky. Forgot its name. The pasta with crab meat and gnocchi with shrimp is stunning. Desert with fistachio very good Espresso with sumbuko - Sicilian style - unbelievable Nice conclusion of the dinner - home-made lemoncella Perfect experience! Love this place , , . , , . . . . :) .

Yelp
Went to this restaurant a few weeks ago. Overall a positive experience but wasn't blown away by the food. Don't get me wrong, it was good but nothing really setting it apart from several other seafood joints (yes, this mixes Italian influence with a heavy pasta menu). We had a few small plates and entrees. Both good--especially the crab pasta--but I was hoping for a little bit more. Exclusively all Italian wine list. Service was very attentive, maybe too much at times, but that's the Italian way I guess. Ambiance: This is where I think they need the most help. It's the exact same interior of the restaurant that was in here previously (and the one before that). Given it's small and narrow, you have a lot of options to make it beautiful, unique and quaint, which I felt the interior and especially lighting didn't align. Overall, food was good but given the abundance of similar options in Manhattan and similar or even a few bucks cheaper price point, I may try another spot in the future. By all means give it a try if you're in the area, though, and craving seafood.

Sanja K.

Yelp
Delicious seafood restaurant with some amazing dishes - freshest seafood and yummy pasta and entrees. The atmosphere is elegant but cozy with wonderful service. Highly recommended!!
