Why Local Artist Tim Lahan Says San Francisco’s Saluhall Ripped Him Off - Eater SF

The 24 Best Things to Do in San Francisco

"Think of Amoeba Music as the mascot of Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco’s famously countercultural neighborhood and the epicenter of the Summer of Love. Born in 1997—the same year as Radiohead’s OK Computer and the Notorious BIG’s Life After Death—Amoeba is colorful and fascinating, a riot of color and sound. An independent music shop thriving in the age of Spotify and Amazon, the whole place has a punky, free-spirited vibe: The walls are papered with band posters, cheeky merch abounds (Iron Maiden bobbleheads, Bob Ross action figures, a Nicolas Cage prayer candle), and the staff deejays, playing ear-catching CDs of their choice from bands you may have never heard before." - Kimberley Lovato, Carey Jones

"People watch in Amoeba Amoeba records is a destination in itself, and every music lover will want to head there. But, turning your attention from the music to the people is also a worthwhile pursuit. Very, very fascinating! Young Cyndi Laupers and John Lennon wannabes, drift past punk rockers and cowboy booted country lovers. All united in their love for music. By samantha reynolds"

Amoeba is great. It's a staple. I've been to the one in LA many times, the old location and the new, but this is my first time at the SF location. It's very cool that it's located in the Haight-Ashbury district, with all the rock history there. The store itself is very familiar. Huge collection, spanning just about every genre and era you can imagine. If it's been pressed, there's a good chance it's here. Amoeba's greatest strength is also its major flaw as a consumer: they are the best in the business. They know exactly the value of every record in the store. In many cases, they define the value. You are not likely to find a deal on anything you are looking for specifically. If you're looking for it, someone else is too, and Amoeba knows this. Now, that's not to say you can't find a hidden gem of an obscure, lesser known random print. Do not expect to get The Beatles on Sale. But to expect to marvel at a massive record museum.

Google
Epic, giant record store!!! Could spend half a day or more here vinyl mining. Finally, I found Gold Panda's "You" on vinyl. There isn't a genre of music that isn't covered vinyl, CD or cassette.

Robert Santiago

Google
Huge selection of music and movies. Found some cool posters and toys as well. Definitely can spend a long time in there with as much selection as they have. Can't wait to visit again.

Tristan

Google
Fantastic store with an awesome selection of blu-ray films (you already know about the great music stock), organised by director and genre, as well as A-Z. There's also books, posters and other merch. Friendly, knowledgeable staff compliment the excellently wide range of choice. Only (extremely mild and niche criticism): it needs an Oliver Stone section! 😄

Google
This record store doesn’t need much explanation—it's simply legendary. From the moment you step in, you know you're in a place that's all about the love of music. The collection is massive, and I mean *a lot* of records, covering every genre you can think of. It's a place where you can spend hours just digging through crates, finding gems you didn’t even know you were looking for. Whether you're a serious collector or just browsing, this place has something for everyone. Truly a paradise for vinyl lovers, and an absolute must-visit.

Google
One of the biggest and best record stores in the US, along with their other location in LA. Literally thousands of LP's, CD's, cassettes, and videos, of every conceivable type, along with turntables, apparel, and other stuff. Every conceivable music genre is represented, including some you may have never heard of. New and used are both stocked, but I would say that prices are a bit high. Also, there were several titles I didn't find, so no record store can possibly have all the millions of records ever made...but still one of the best selections in one place.

Google
Wow! I stumbled upon this place by chance and was so impressed! I found rare old Ukrainian vinyls—it was unbelievable!

Google
I could spend a whole day exploring this amazing shop. They have everything imaginable in media from BETA, VHS, 8 track, CD, DVD, Blu-ray, Vinyl, cassettes, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they had floppy disks and punch cards. Their selection and prices are amazing. I'm glad I don't live closer because I could easily spend several hundred dollars a week there.

Yelp
West Coast Rap! This place is such a cool record store on the end of the Haight Ashbury District before it turns into Golden Gate Park. This record store is huge. Aisle after aisle after aisle of music - new and used. This place used to be a bowling alley, but they tore out all the alleys and guts that made the place work, and replaced it with kickass music. I'm usually into punk polka, and they had a deeper selection than most record stores that I go to. They have a whole section of music bumper stickers and books. You can't listen to the albums before you get to buy them, they have a pretty ironclad security system, which makes sense. They've so many types of obscure, hard to find albums. My favorite is the special vault section, where they have the rarest albums under lock and key. Kickass. There's a movie place at the front of the store that sells used and new DVDs and movie posters and such. This is by far the coolest, hippest store I've been to in SF. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a great spot to check out small acts and album releases, or enjoy rifling through lots of new and old records! They have a knowledgeable staff and it's a fun atmosphere. Check out other parts of the Haight while you stop by this iconic spot!

Yelp
Institution in the Bay Area. Great clearance selection. Picked up a great CD for only $1.99. They promote their information desk so people feel encouraged to seek assistance. Hope this place stays around forever. I Heart Amoeba Music.

Yelp
10/10 experience. It was my first time going to a cd/record store and it was the best! They have a lot of different stuff and the workers here are super helpful! The prices are great and just everything about this establishment is wonderful. Would love to visit again soon

Yelp
Amoeba music is a wonderland for music off all kinds for all kinds of people, I really love how this place is on Haight St! I am adding onto my vinyl collections and have been meaning to look for some local Hip Hop. I had been looking specifically My Vinyl Weighs a Ton by DJ Peanut Butter Wolf and I found a sealed copy! YASSS. They have a decent selection of Rock music and even saw a press Jeff Buckley Mojo Pin. Awesome place. Enso forever! Metered parking sucks. Be patient. Used cd's. Book. Stickers. Merch. Yelp
Disgustingly rude privileged sales counter employee. (African American with braids, unnecessarily sassy) Brought a stack of vinyls to sell and he rolls his eyes. 5pm. No line or anyone waiting to sell. I say "hi I'd like to possibly sell some vinyls." Employee says "and where did these come from?" I got the tone that he assumed they were stollen? Very weird. Anyways they took about 15 for $8. $8... but Amoeba will resell them for $10 each. Beyond unethical. My other vinyls I don't want I'd rather leave on street or donate to a thrift store for free. Do not sell here! Make a Mercari or Facebook market ad. Instead of supporting a rude business like this.

Yelp
Good selection of records to choose from but make sure to double check the prices. I've found numerous overpriced items but also several bargain items. Very hit or miss price range wise. Could spend hours going through and finding hidden gems in the clearance areas. I would like to go back but unfortunately a rude cashier turned me off from spending my hard earned money at a place that doesn't value customer service. I patiently waited in-line to purchase my records and saw that a cashier was done checking the previous person out so I walked up to her register only to be met with the worst attitude. She stated, "I'm not ready for you yet so you can go back in-line and wait until we call you." That alone turned me off from this place and seems to be an issue based on previous reviews. I'll take my money elsewhere to a place that values their customers and I hope that cashier gets customer service training.

Yelp
For a place that's pure record store nostalgia for me, my recent visit left much to be desired. Some bro working the door, wearing an SF cap, demanded that I stop and check my empty canvas bag. Having shopped here for over a decade, have a little respect for your customer base! Not every person coming into the store is a tourist unaware of your bag policy, nor do the substantial majority of people have any ill intent to steal. If I would have had a backpack, etc., I would have happily checked it. In essence, I was treated as if I was going to head onto the floor and start loading up my bag with vinyl, before making a quick exit without paying. I gave a blank stare to SF cap bro and responded that the empty canvas bag was to carry my record purchases, rather than the plastic bags they readily offer up. Then, the bro responded with something to the effect of, "after you purchase them?!" Yes, after I purchase them. God forbid I shop here and spend my hard earned money so someone like you can take home a pay check. Will definitely frequent other places before thinking about patronizing this place again. For such an epic selection, my recent experience leaves much to be desired. This place is quickly becoming a tourist trap with unfriendly folks. Thank goodness the cashier was nice and had a sense of humor.

Yelp
Do you FEEL a special connection to MUSIC?.. Like more than being a good listener of it, or a passionate enthusiast of its, or even as an actual industry professional either BE YOU a columnist or an actual musician in whatever area of expertise you WORK to make a living - Yet, FOR NON-WHATSOEVER REASON - as someBODY who absolutely has something to do WITH MUSIC in particular; however, despite your closeness to or your familiarity with it, you can't somehow FIND the exact words to describe THAT SACRED CONNECTION you FEEL to IT, or what it simply means 2U?!.. (Do you like U2? I DO!.. EL-E-VAaa-TIOooN!..) I'm making a reference to that very CONNECTION which makes you question if every single person cheering and singing with you in the audience at your favorite ARTIST's concert, also FEELS IT as immensely and POWERFULLY as you do; a question which eventually makes you further wonder; "COULD THAT BE THE SAME FEELING THAT WE ALL ARE EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW IN THIS VERY MOMENT, literally AS '1' ?.. * A UNIQUE FEELING, EFFORTLESSLY LEAVING YOU SPEECHLESS, AS THE very FEELER of it, yet making you feel very LIMITED TO BE ABLE TO FLAWLESSLY DESCRIBE OR EXPLAIN IT, yes... Even to yourself! * Please excuse me for my pre-introductory paragraphs yet I had to make sure that you are that kind of a person before you wanted to or I would've wished for you to continue reading my heartfelt review about Amoeba Music!.. 'Cause otherwise, there's simply nothin' 4 U IN IT!! So, quite frankly and honestly, Amoeba Music is a store that I see as CHURCH. Not 'A' church, people; CHURCH. For a person like myself, MUSIC is already on a religious level. And I would not EVER wish to share anything related to my LOVE for IT it with a shallow minded being. Those kinds of beings are already on my nerves by default, making me feel like I am constantly being pranked in a... say, random restaurant where I'm trying to get something done by interacting with a robotic being, the soullessness of which, would have nothing to do with my religion which exists in a purely musical region, definitely not in a slice of crispy bacon! If you are currently visiting San Francisco at a point in your life where the theme of your life has become "Losing My Religion by R.E.M." YET not really feeling good about that A BIT, then you might perhaps want to consider visiting Amoeba Records, prior to. a visit to the gorgeous St. Ignatius as its construction lasts forever like a website that remains under construction for it would have no actual value to offer. However, once inside, it makes you feel forever. However, if I were you, I would make my way to Amoeba Records first. OK from this moment on, I can switch to the tone of a not necessarily religious person who has appreciation for this business. Although, if you are not able to feel that churchy feel as soon as your first few steps inside, then I MUST SAY that you are highly likely irreversibly digitized, my friend. LIKE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON, and you could well thank your mama & dad for that! In a day & age where US MUSIC LOVERS primarily feed our souls through Spotify (Which to me is also CHURCH), and therefore not necessarily rewinding a cassette in our walkman or by spinning records on our turntables; the chance to experience this business with their solidified passion for what feeds their SOUL; solely for the sake of honoring MUSIC; because THEY KNOW that it's worthy of it; although God would only know how much dust would naturally be accumulated on those records, after a busy day's business! And I'm quite sure that it is actual people who take care of that part of the job too, not robots. * I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE OVERALL FEEL OF THE TOURISTY ROUTE YOU'RE ON HERE, YET IT PERSONALLY FEELS fulfillingly HUMAN 2 BE INSIDE Amoeba Music... A feeling which, FOR ME, is so DEAR! * Their selection? If a major record label would ever feel in need of retrieving some intellectual asset in the very form of music from their own archives yet somehow can't, they must make contacting Amoeba Music their very first priority. Their prices? Ridiculous. Surreal. It does not feel like they do feel the pressure of choosing to be so humble with their affordable prices despite the displays of divinity they make available to the public; even after that horrific pandemic!

Yelp
Amoeba Music was on our list of places to visit in SF since my brother and I like to explore music shops during our travels. We were spending the day exploring Haight-Ashbury and the surrounding neighborhoods, and made Amoeba our last stop of the day before heading back to our hotel. While I knew virtually nothing about Amoeba before visiting, I was looking forward to checking it out. Amoeba has three locations in California, and mainly sells music - though they also have selections of movies, books and magazines. The formats they sell are vast - vinyls in many sizes, CDs, cassette tapes, DVDs, VHSs, and even Laserdiscs. They also have general Amoeba merch like shirts and caps as well as posters and rare collectors items. Walking in, I was totally floored at the size of the space - the store is huge, and their inventory is almost overwhelming. You can easily spend hours exploring everything they have to offer. Music and movies are separated by format and then by genre. They also have special sections to browse such as a dedicated section for Criterion Collection films. I ended up purchasing a few items - they have a mix of new and used merch, hence their stock and selection are some of the best I've seen in a record store. Checkout was fast, and overall I had an excellent experience at Amoeba. Even if you're not looking for anything specific, take the time to browse and I'm sure you'll find something.

Yelp
We were on the way to Golden Gate Park and Amoeba's retro store front exterior caught our attention so we headed in. Immediately we were greeted by a staff member to store our backpack onto their cubby storage. I was a given an alligator clip with the cubby number. This place is ginormous. I'm sure there are people are spending hours here exploring. Going through tapes, CDs, DVDs, and so on brought so many childhood memories. I recall listening to 90's boybands ( Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Savage Garden, and so on) on cassettes and not needing to rewind when we transitioned to CDs. I did try to find Kate Bush since her song has been playing everywhere thanks to Stranger Things Season 4. It was easy to locate. Things are easy to find thanks to their organization and labels. Definitely a really cool place to browse through. We were on our way for coffee in the morning when there was an unstable individual (most likely intoxicated?) yelling incoherently at no nothing meters away from Amoeba Music on Haight Street and Stanyan Street. Hours later when we entered Amoeba, a different disheveled man was seen cursing at people passing by. Just be careful.

Yelp
When you go here cause you must! You must go!! You really need a lot of time. The service was so great. It seemed they seem so friendly and they did make the vibe very positive. I loved it! I was a little overwhelmed but I definitely want to go back.

Yelp
An amazing music record store that has everything you need from vinyls to cds to books and beyond. The most vast collection of high quality vinyls I have seen in a while. The store security is tight at the entrance but is expected. Cashier is friendly, and things are organized and restocked well so it was very easy to find what is available. Would be back to find more hidden gems!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cool place and tons of hidden treasure! It had been awhile since I'd been here and it was great to be back. The staff was nice and the selection was insane!
google avatar

Nyla K.

Yelp
This place is so cool! You can find all kinds of music in all kinds of formats and you can sell your old stuff too. The staff are really friendly with a bag check policy as you enter the store. Even dogs are allowed to wander, supervised of course! We came in for some Beatles records for Christmas gifts. Love this place!
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
The buyer at the trade in desk was a cold, unfriendly, jerk. The store is fine, but I'd have appreciated a little more friendly customer service. Browsing the Yelp reviews I see multiple people complaining about the same thing. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Yelp
Information desk is probably the best thing to hit this franchise; makes it easier to find your favorites without taking away from the browsing experience!

Yelp
This place is a record Mecca. I had no idea how large it was going to be, and honestly I could have spent the whole day here if I had the time (one visit I will make it so)! Very cool store, lots to see, and what a cool neighborhood. Glad you're here.
google avatar

Mac B.

Yelp
This place is absolutely wonderful! I could spend hours perusing the aisles and looking at records, old and new. I went in with a friend a while ago seeking advice on which record player was the best for me. Being a total newbie discophile, I had no idea which record players were good for a beginner. The person helping us walked us past all the flashy, new, "aesthetic" record players and settled on a very simple-looking Audiotechnica. I respect that the person helping us didn't try to sell us the most expensive one, but rather "the one that every employee in the store started with". After hearing that, it was an easy decision to make. I use the record player every day as I'm waking up now and it produces beautiful sound. I'm so happy I got it!
google avatar

Isabella A.

Yelp
Great iconic store. Been a customer since the late 90s and never ever had any issues with them. Also been saying their promos on my radio show for KXSF alot. Hope they give me a discount soon lol. I'm due for another visit there very soon! Perhaps this is definitely one of my favorite stores on Haight, and my most favorite record store overall. Great place to spend hours at digging through the crates.

Yelp
A staple of the patriarchal music scene that dominates the bay area, even now. Wish they'd focus more on POC and non white records and music. #stopthePatriarchy

Yelp
The pretentiousness these employees have! My god. Employees working RSD today were incredibly rude (except for the dude working the end of the check out counter closest to the bag check in the morning-- he was so kind and made me feel a lot better!) and I'm pretty sure they hated the fact that Taylor Swift fans were camping overnight and were the first people line. I've been calling to ask about Long Pond weeks ahead since it was my first RSD. I was constantly met with cold disgruntled attitudes and short responses. I even went in person to ask and these two dudes giggled at each other and scoffed me out the door, refusing to answer any of my questions. Today I asked the literal information desk about how many units they had for a different vinyl and the dude glared at me, scoffed, and said something along the lines of "per RSD rules we are never allowed to give out that information so you're just going to have to get here earlier next time". I got there at 3 AM!! Also plenty of other stores released their unit amounts so I find that hard to believe. I'm gutted that my first RSD was horrible. We are giving you business you should be grateful for-- lose the attitudes! These misogynistic dudes are so whiny about Taylor being the literal music industry but given Amoeba's "I'm cooler than you because I listen to this indie record nobody knows about and I hate women shattering records in pop" reputation, I shouldn't have expected anything less.
google avatar

Wayne P.

Yelp
I enjoy going to Amoeba for a few reasons. The service depends on who you speak to. Overall the employees are helpful & informative, some incredibly knowledgeable about all types of music. Some salespeople are more informed than others, just ask. Amoeba has an eclectic variety of music (CDs vinyl DVD blue ray) . I, on a personal note have found some amazing recordings not available on the internet. I have to say some music offered can be very expensive but I have found some great quality recordings reasonably priced and affordable. I've found CDs under $5 bucks that are 3x that or more on the internet for the same thing. If you love music as much as I do give Amoeba a visit, you might just find that rare recording you're looking for

Yelp
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." - Plato What year is this? What decade? Amoeba Music has been part of my adult life what seems like forever. Amoeba has fed my music soul from when I was a Mod, from when I was Rocker, to when I was in a boy band, just one step away from the Psychedelic Furs. Amoeba was founded in Berkeley in 1990 and survived the global decline of Vinyl Records, CD's, and DVD's. In the late 1990's it branched out to the iconic Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco. A few years later, it branched out to Hollywood and Los Angeles. Not too bad for an independent music store that was founded by several employees of retail who simply loved music. I've been to the locations in Berkeley and Hollywood, but "my store" has always been this one on Haight and Ashbury. Just love the vibe here. From the chillness to the fantastic window displays. Amoeba also buys used Vinyl's and CD's, just don't recall a high demand for Cassette Tapes aka the Betamax of the music world lol. In fact, back in the day I'm sure I sold a few albums here, just hope it wasn't my Elvis or Bow Wow Wow... All in all, I highly recommend Amoeba Music to all into music and movies. I also love their selection of the coolest toys and throw-back knick knacks. Gone are the days of me riding up in my jet-black Café Racer with Winona riding shotgun, ahh those were the days... but we can still re-live our memories at Amoeba... Word.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
As a music lover, this place is Heaven. Just like the record stores of the old days, only better and bigger. Amoeba has such a deep selection of options for all music lovers...from indie, punk, jazz, classical, metal, classic rock, and more. And they have all music in all formats...vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and DVDs. Also, plenty of other music related items for sale, including retro posters, art, clothing and books. The workers are very knowledgeable and helpful. They also have an info center where they can look up items on their computer to see if they have it in stock. My teenage kids and I felt like kids in a candy shop. We spent over an hour in there looking around, and easily could have spent all day checking out their deep inventory of great music and deep cuts. Most vinyl cost about $20, while CDs were reasonably priced, particularly the used music. This is pretty standard pricing these days. What's not standard is the depth of their available music, particularly underground artists. If you are a music lover, you have to check this place out!
google avatar

Frank W.

Yelp
I hope Amoeba Music stays in business forever. It is a throwback. You could spend hours in there if you have any interest in recorded music of any genre. I feel when I visit a store such as this, I am morally obligated to buy something -- since I enjoy the experience, I ought to support the enterprise.

Yelp
This is the first time I've been to this place in SF (I went to the LA one a couple years back) & it's great to say the least. I love this store, they have so much to go through and you could spend a lot of money here for sure. I don't have any negatives about the place at all but be warned that they appear to base their prices off Discogs etc (at least for music) so don't expect to find too many rare gems for super cheap. So far this is going to be my store for vinyl in SF.

j w.

Yelp
Seems like cashiers are over worked and exhausted, every time i come in they seem super overwhelmed and when i tried tipping they said it wasn't allowed. But there's a great selection of records and the movie section is awesome; they even have a photo booth!!! There used to be a girl with curly hair there who was super helpful with helping me find posters for my brother's birthday but haven't seen her in a long time. This place is a must for music lovers visiting haight street.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
The bag check kid had a knack for answering questions in the most passive aggressive manner. Asking a simple question about if I can put a bottled drink in my bag is a yes or no type of question. Unnecessarily antagonistic--and it seems like many reviews on this Amoeba location agree. Much friendlier, independent record stores can be found in the bay.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
Great shop, my local Record Store Day location with a great and fair menu selection process. Have sold many CDs and DVDs there for reasonable prices.
google avatar

Jeremiah A.

Yelp
I was exploring the Haight while on a visit to San Francisco, and I made it a point to stop in at Amoeba Music, a legendary store in the indie music scene. Their selection of music in CD and vinyl is beyond I'm impressive, as is their stock of rock T-shirts and accessories. I am pretty no-frills when it comes to shopping for music. I'm there for the product, and Amoeba has anything you could be looking for, new and used. The shop is located in one of the most musically significant locations in the US, and it is well worth a visit. I'm so glad I stopped by.
google avatar

Jacob M.

Yelp
It's hard to find such a large selection in the city with all the little spots scattered around the city, great find!

David A.

Yelp
Ehh...this store is a sad case of me wanting to like it way more than I do. I love music and I love records so this place should have been a shoe-in for me to love. And I tried to love it. I really did. But their record selection, despite being huge, is just so...average. Overpriced too, given how average it is. I rarely find anything worth getting here. There is nothing hard to find here. The best one can do here is a medium-hard to find item in beat up condition. I've visited it many times and it's the same each time. I don't know why that is. Maybe there's too many music fans in SF? Maybe Amoeba's too big? Maybe they're too good at knowing how to charge max dollar for everything? Also, going here for Record Store Day is less than useless. You have to line up at the break of dawn or else most RSD items will be sold out here. I'm not referring to the ultra-popular RSD releases, but even the average ones (the ones can get just about anywhere online the next day at list price) are gone. I also don't dig the vibes of this store. It feels like a garage. Not a cool neighbor's garage, but a very average garage with a lot of things in it that never get used. However, there are also some very worthwhile things about Amoeba. One is the free live performances. Often times, bands do a free show at Amoeba before a concert elsewhere in town. These were common pre-2020 but have been slow to comeback; however, I'm holding out hope that we're going to see more of them again. They also hold cool birthday parties and other promotional events. And despite the big but frustrating lackluster vinyl selection, their CD selection remains strong in both quantity and quality. So three stars, because this gigantic record store is good for many things...just not actual records.

Yelp
Great selection of used and overpriced vinyls. Beyond that, the customer service was TERRIBLE. My partner and I were greeted rudely by this young employee. This person yelled: "Put on your mask!" My partner was already putting on his mask when the employee yelled this. In fact, the mask was already hooked around one ear and he was in the process of hooking the mask around the other ear when he was yelled at. The employees have huge egos, completely unhelpful, rude, know-it-alls, and self-righteous. We immediately wanted to leave after this. It wasn't until we noticed that we were being watched closely by the security guard and the information front desk person for shoplifting. That doesn't sit lightly when you are both BIPOC. We felt profiled in a very unapologetic and upfront way. It was bold without any care. I wouldn't recommend. And I never want to come back. I'd recommend to put your money elsewhere.

Yelp
Went to sell a few LPs with my partner and it was a good experience. Fun to browse too.

Yelp
I want to thank Tony Green especially and specifically for "going above and beyond"regarding helping me get our Amoeba purchased Crosley Turntable System up and running...I could not get any sound out of the speakers. I set up an appointment and Tony walked to my house and fixed my layman error regarding speaker connection. It was a simple fix, but it was so great to have that assistance. Kudos to Tony! We love Amoeba :)

Yelp
Good store all round in San Francisco, which I visited twice in April 2022, see attached receipts. Its great that they sell Vinyl, VHS, cassettes, DVD's, Blu Ray's, Memorabilia and more! The only thing I'd say is the customer service should be better and more friendly, particularly at the tills. Don't take customers for granted. Please and thank you's always good too. It works both ways. 4/5 for the good selection of items. 1/5 for the customer service 3.5% Healthy Tax did not make my happy! This is an added tax which I did not find any notification about at the tills. 2 stars less for the poor customer service.

Yelp
A paradise for music lovers and vinyl record collectors! Amoeba Music has one of the largest collections of vinyl records, CDs, and random music paraphernalia I've ever seen. They have endless rows of items that you can spend hours browsing through. I came here hoping to expand my vinyl collection and was not disappointed and left wanting to come back ASAP. Their vinyl stock ranges from a wide array of genres: rock, classical, blues, jazz, folk, etc. They even have movie sound tracks and comedy! It's the perfect spot to broaden your musical tastes. Their stock has both used and new records and all are properly labeled. Amoeba has fantastic deals well below $5 and everything I've bought from here within that price range have been at a good quality. Do keep in mind to inspect the records you're buying for damage since they do have a no return policy. Staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful! FYI: no bags are allowed inside and you must lead them at the door.

Yelp
I love this place so much. They have some rare to find goodies. I've found many bands in my childhood era mid 80's on vinyl. Brings a lot of memories and just have fun dancing to them.

Yelp
Very nice place with nice people to help! I have four everything I was looking for. The store is very well organized and the space is very good. From Vinyl, CD's, and K7 you can go from the old to the new!!

Yelp
Best record store in San Francisco, or anywhere else for that matter. Love the staff recommendations too.

Yelp
literally the best spot for both records and CDs in SF! reasonable price, vast selection of both older/classic and new indie artists. only complaint is that they were sold out of some semi-popular artists, (e.g. Clairo, Men I Trust, Boygenius).

Yelp
They are crooks, liars and scammers. They are all so rude especially Tony the so called owner. They want to buy for Pennie's and sell so high. Avoid these crooks. Save money and buy on eBay.
