"Amore is beautiful, a West Bank favorite that’s been transporting customers to Italy for eight years. The friendly family-run business serves delicate croissants, zeppole, danishes, and Napoleons, in addition to excellent sandwiches and salads. It has a fully-stocked case of Angelo Brocato gelato, adding to its old-world charm." - Eater Staff, Clair Lorell

Google
I only gave them 1 star because the food was very tasty, but for a $10 breakfast sandwich, they only put two half slices of bacon on there. Add a few more pieces of bacon and I'd definitely come back!!! And just for the record, had I wanted sausage or ham, I could've easily ordered it. No matter how "expensive" the bacon is, it still doesn't make sense to have 2 half slices on a sandwich.

Very cute aesthetic bakery right next to the Gretna Farmers Market. They make great coffee, beautiful and absolutely tasty desserts. Would recommend if you ever come to Gretna

First time coming here. There's lots of delicious food in the display case. I couldn't choose what to get. There are a ton of options for everyone. The girls behind the counter greeted me as I walked in. They decorated beautifully for Halloween. The gourmet grilled cheese sandwich was amazing. Pasta salad was great! Didn't get a chance to try their coffee but I'll definitely be back soon!

Google
The pastries were good. It is a nice little place with a good breakfast croissant sandwich at a reasonable price. The place is located across the street from the Gretna Farmers Market. This made parking hard to find on a Saturday. I would imagine if we went on a weekday, we might be fighting parking for the courthouse. We plan on going back during the week to try it again. We liked the atmosphere and the people who worked there were very friendly.

This place is an absolute must stop if you’re ever in the Gretna Area. The customer service is amazing and the coffee and pastries are even better! You will not be disappointed you stoped by. They have perfected the simple coffee for people like me and the complex drinks that my spouse had. The cinnamon Roll and Biscuits are an absolute must try.

Stepping into Amore Bakery and Cafe in the historical Italian neighborhood of Gretna is like taking a delightful little trip to Italy without leaving Louisiana. Nestled among charming streets that whisper tales of yesteryears, Amore offers a warm, inviting ambiance that pairs beautifully with its array of delectable treats. The interior of the cafe is thoughtfully decorated, balancing rustic charm with modern comfort, creating an atmosphere that's both welcoming and stylish. Large windows illuminate the space with natural light, making it a perfect spot for a morning coffee or a leisurely afternoon break. Amore’s menu boasts an impressive selection of baked goods that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate. From flaky pastries and rich, indulgent cakes to beautifully crafted breads, each item is a testament to the skills of their passionate bakers. The cannoli here is a must-try; it's crisp, sweet, and beautifully filled with creamy, subtly sweet ricotta that's just the right amount of rich without being overwhelming. The coffee selection is equally commendable, featuring classic Italian espressos and cappuccinos that are robust and perfectly brewed. The baristas are skilled and happy to suggest combinations, making each visit a unique experience. Service at Amore Bakery and Cafe is friendly and attentive. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor exploring the quaint surroundings. Overall, Amore Bakery and Cafe is not just a cafe but a delightful experience, serving up a slice of Italian heritage right in the heart of Gretna. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite, a place to meet friends, or a quiet corner to relax and unwind, Amore is a spot that will charm you with every visit.

Google
I love Amore. The coffee, the gelato, the baked goods.. you really can't go wrong here. Everything is delicious. I am personally a big fan of their cookies, especially the triple chocolate. I wish they had longer hours, but it's probably better for my waistline that they don't.

Travis C.

Yelp
Always a great time at Amore's! The service is top notch and very easy to talk to. The drinks are out of this world amazing! Anything you order to drink here is great. My favorite is the earl gray latte, it's top notch. My wife and daughter really enjoyed the hot cocoa here. For decorations they go all out here for Christmas. It felt like stepped back in time to Old Gretna, like if it was in England or something, very cool. Overall we a had a great time, and look forward to visiting here in the future.

Yelp
Amore Bakery and Café is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped in, I felt transported--not to New Orleans, but to a cozy café on the French Riviera. The ambiance is beautifully curated, and the décor is stunning. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, adding to the experience. On this visit, we stopped by for a quick treat: a cookie for my daughter and a coffee for me. Both were delightful! The flavors were rich, and the presentation was perfect. I can't wait to return for more of their tempting desserts and pastries. 5 stars!

Tess Z.

Yelp
That coffee shop is gorgeous, and the pastries look amazing! Everyone working there was so sweet. My iced mocha was pretty good, and it was decently priced for a small, local place.

My Dao N.

Yelp
Recommend? Yes. I got their avocado toast because it was the only vegan item they offered. It's a good enough avocado toast. The cafe itself is really cute so even if you can't eat anything here, come for a coffee and enjoy some good conversation or reading and writing.

Court T.

Yelp
Our little westbank gem! I constantly recommend this place to people. You really shouldn't go to Old Gretna and not stop in for a snack! They always do a fantastic job from the food and drinks to the decor! I can honestly say everything here is good! I still think they need to start doing flights of their soups though. It's hard to pick just one!!

Alejandra G.

Yelp
This is such a cute cafe. The employees are so nice and their pastries are so good! They have a breakfast and lunch menu. It was decorated for Christmas and had Christmas music playing. Definitely recommend for brunch or even a solo date.

Grachy S.

Yelp
I love everything about this place, but the coffee. I don't know if it's the coffee or the milk they use that it tastes funny. I tried the coffee many times with family and friends and they feel the same. The food, gelato, pastries, and ambiance are great! It's a fun place to hang out with kids. The service is great; the girls are very nice too. Please fix the coffee, so I can go more often lol I need a good coffee.

Lizzy M.

Yelp
We have been to this establishment many times with no issues but today we had the worst service out of all our visits here. Dark hair blue eyed female. Don't remember seeing a name tag. Didn't greet my partner and I when we walked up nor smiled. Thanks to the barista because he actually did. I asked for a lunch menu and she said they didn't serve lunch on Saturdays which was fine. Told her we would order coffee and pastries to go. Barely gave me two seconds to scan the coffee menu and rushed me to place an order so I picked something. She then proceeded to rudely ask " if there was anything else" before my partner could even look. After we paid (which I still tipped on my to go order) there was no thank you. No have a good day. No nothing.

Trang M.

Yelp
Cute, little bakery. The desserts are good. The gelato is yummy and big portions. Their customer service is amazing and friendly. They give samples of the gelato to make sure you like the flavors before choosing a cup or a cone. No waffle or sugar cones available though.

John C.

Yelp
I love the place! It's great coffee, but way more! Great baked goods, breakfast and lunch!! Super cool vibe and cool decorations. It's like being in an old New Orleans shotgun with a old ice cream shop added in! Great staff and fast service. Right in the heart of beautiful Gretna!

Brooke H.

Yelp
I have come here many times and everything I've ever had is delicious. I love that they offer crème brûlée because it's pretty hard to find in places that aren't nicer restaurants . Such a cute spot to take Instagram pics at too!

Kris C.

Yelp
Stumbled on this hidden gem. Great place for pastries, gelato, and coffee. Bella was great at helping me out. Highly recommend to check this place out.

Tania Z.

Yelp
Love the food and drinks at amore! Their lunch menu is delicious and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered here, especially their house salad with chicken and buffalo chicken sandwich. They are the perfect spot for a quick lunch!

Wendy H.

Yelp
The bakery was lovely, decorated early for the holidays. The staff were very helpful, suggesting items we might like. Altogether a great experience!

Anthony M.

Yelp
Food is ok . There is much better food and coffee around the corner on Lafayette Street. Go to Nguyeners bakery the coffee is great. The service at Amore is not good they act like you owe them something. The owner came down and caused a scene in front of the whole restaurant about this review and her mother came down and berated us and twice tapped my wife on her back and said don't ever come back when I was the one who did this. This could all have been handled better if she would have pulled me aside and communicated about the issues. Instead she thought a owner should act so unprofessional in her own restaurant. I hope the future of this area does not depend on owners like her. Also don't get on yelp if you can't handle honesty.

Jimin G.

Yelp
The place is beautiful truly. The ambiance is nice very chatty. The service is okay just a whole bunch of teenagers . I have been about 3 times hoping the coffee might be better or different at the very least. In the past I have ordered hot latte, iced latte and a cold cream cold brew and these coffees were all so flat, no taste - just not good. If you are a real coffee lover don't come here but if all you care about is sweets then yes. Their sweets, breads, cakes, gelato etc come from Angelo brocatto.

Helana B.

Yelp
This place was so adorable! Loved the vibe. Service was great! They had it decorated for Halloween when we went, and it was just the cutest! Definitely recommend!

Chelle L.

Yelp
Such a cute place! Another hidden gem in old Gretna that I had never been to until now. It's a small place but still very busy - it was tough to find an open table on a hot, humid Louisiana summer evening. They still had decorations from 4th of July but it made the place look so festive and nice so no complaints at all about that. I got the stracciatella gelato, which was delicious! My friends had a cookie and one of the chocolate pastry dishes from their display case and my friend swears by their cookies! I'll have to try it another time but it's a real sweet place and would love to come back.

Blake R.

Yelp
This afternoon I had my weekly two scoops vanilla and one scoop chocolate gelato. The gelato was delicious. I also had a cappuccino, which was perfect. Last week I had a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious. The staff was great. They knew my gelato order. Can you tell I have been here a time or two.

Kip B.

Yelp
Great find in Gretna!! I work nearby often and recently discovered it. You'd think you were in the LGD. The quality (and prices) meet or exceed those expectations.

Chad A.

Yelp
Stopped by after dinner last week to get dessert. Waited several minutes for the three employees to stop gossiping and wait on us (just acted like we were not there.) Finally we got to order my partner got a almond croissant and a blueberry scone. I went with banana pudding, which was prepackaged (should have known better.) The croissant was HARD AS A ROCK as was the scone. The Banana pudding was OLD not sure how long it had been sitting but I'm guessing no less than a week or more, the bananas were BLACK... pics attached...YUM!

Jenny T.

Yelp
Very good cookies!!! My daughter loves them and it's hard for her to just choose one. Such a cute bakery and I absolutely love all the McKenzie child decor.

Melanie K.

Yelp
The space is cute, the coffee is good, but the pastries are just ok. The worst part about this place is the very rude service. Their ordering and pick-up system is a mystery, but questions are unwelcome. My name was called but it was unclear to me whether the brown bag next to my drinks was my croissant, but when I asked if it was mine, I was forcefully told no, "We know," and that my name would be called (it was called). Then my to-go croissant was brought out on a plate. just rude and unhelpful. They should probably work on training.

Luna L.

Yelp
I used to go here all the time when I worked in Gretna. Unfortunately, they're closed on my days off, or I'd drive across the bridge to go more often. I will probably make a point to go while it's decorated for Halloween. Every latte I've had at Amore is delicious and the pastries, gelato, cake, and cookies are phenomenal. The people behind the counter are always friendly and good at getting the order right.

Meagan J.

Yelp
Beautiful.. simply beautiful. The decor is everything. Cute and quaint, could def be used a dainty coffee shop in New York. The desserts are delicious as well. The staff is a friendly and the gelato is superb.

Chloe P.

Yelp
So cute, so quaint, and such delicious eats! Amoré is a little gem in Gretna, with beautiful ambiance and nice pastries. They offer coffee, pastries, and gelato, making it the perfect place to meet up with friends or have a calm morning/ afternoon.

Dana M.

Yelp
I have to update the my last review. Sage asked me to some in an try a fresh piece of coconut cake so the next I was in the neighborhood I stopped by. They were out of coconut this time but she did offer me a wedding cake cupcake and I also picked up two scones, the pistachio cake and an almond braid. Y'all. The wedding cake cupcake. The first word that came to my head was "Mesmerizing!!" The cake was light and fluffy but held together. The frosting was whipped to perfection and had a delicate almond flavor that complimented the cake so well. Perfect distribution of icing and cake. Usually I say cake is the the carrier for the main event-the icing. But the cake held its own. My new favorite. I tried the white chocolate raspberry and the blueberry scone. Both were light and fluffy and just a tad crispy on the outside with a light glaze covering the entire biscuit. The pistachio cake is just not my thing. I liked the frosting and nuts but the cake needs a little something-too bland for my buds. The almond braid was probably my second favorite after the wedding cake. Flaky layer upon layer of pastry with a lovely almond filling. It is to die for. Every time I go in, I'm swept away by the decor. It's just beautiful and Sage graciously called her mom while I was standing there to find out where she ordered the bathroom faucets which I love. This is a family affair. Sage is precious, creative, talented and just plain ol' nice. She deserves to do well. I hope you visit her soon and bring friends.

Kris C.

Yelp
Awesome experience! They have wise assortment of baked goods including muffins, turnovers, cookies and cream cheese pie. Also they have a dozen or so different ice creams. The staff are very helpful and polite. Plenty of clean tables. The only drawback is that there are 4-5 stairs to walk up to get to the counter. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Lacey D.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a whim, after eating at a nearby restaurant. I'm so glad we did! The service is excellent, very friendly and helpful. There are a handful of gelato flavors, drinks and lot of delicious looking things in the bakery case. We each got a scoop- he had chocolate and I had mint chocolate chip. We also split a wedding cake cupcake. It was all super yummy and reasonable prices. I will absolutely be back!

Fernando E.

Yelp
Located in old Gretna , Amore , has a very nice easily identifiable storefront. As you go inside you notice the wonderful displays of gelatos, and magazine picture worthy pastries and desserts. I had a wonderful apple strudel, flaky pastry over delicious sweet apple slices , it was fresh , well made and obviously made from scratch. The cappuccino was a great pairing with the strudel. I can't wait to return to eat my way through all the pastry and dessert choices. Well worth spending some time at Amore pastries and cafe.

Tuyet P.

Yelp
If I was always on this side of town, this would be my number one coffee spot. It is so cute, so quaint, and such a lovely staff. They have coffee selections, tea assortments, fresh made pastries and sweets, as well as gelato for you Italian ice cream lovers out there. The place is just way too cute inside. I found out about this place on the day of the huge Nola Nite Market and came back days later to catch up on some reading and enjoyed myself a nice hot cup with a much needed decadent slice of their chocolate cake. Staff is super sweet and very helpful.

Madison C.

Yelp
Great little spot! This place has been on my list for a longgg time but I always find myself in the area after they are closed for the day. Had a day off so I wanted to check them out. Just as cute as I thought it would be and so many options I'll have to be stopping by again soon. Everything was great, we had the strawberry shortcake, chocolate scone, chicken salad sandwich, avocado ranch blt, pasta salad and straccatella gelato. And there was STILL more I wish I had room for! Everything was fresh and delicious and the wait staff were so pleasant and helpful. Great job guys wish I had visited sooner!

Justin M.

Yelp
Banana pudding! Been meaning to come back and on my birthday at that. Did not disappoint. Delicious ! Will be back again!

Michele N.

Yelp
Cutest hidden gem! Service was great! They had a variety of baked goods to choose from. Oh and they have Angelo Brocato gelato! The latte (honey bear latte) was the best I've had, using coast roast coffee and local honey. We order a slice of the oreo cheesecake and banana foster cheesecake. Banana foster had actually real banana bites in them and both cheesecake had a nice smooth creamy texture. The decor is super cute and made me felt like I was in Parisian bakery. Parking wasn't hard to find although it is paid parking. They do have two tables out front to enjoy on a nice day. Ready to come back for more!

Marielle S.

Yelp
I am so excited!! Finally a cute cafe, on the Westbank, that isn't a chain! Someone posted about this place a week or so on facebook and after looking at the photos, I knew I had to make my way to this adorable Italian cafe. Walking in, you feel as if you are walking into a cafe that you would find in a storybook- the outside is decorated for Christmas with a large wreath on the window, a nutcracker and garland wrapped around a light pole. Inside, there is a large Christmas tree and Harry Connick Jr's Christmas album playing in the background. There are tables by the windows so that you can look out as your enjoy your treats and free wifi is available, if you have some work to do. They offer all kinds of delicious pastries, different types of coffees and gelato! Do you know how happy I am that there is a place for gelato in Gretna? I think they might be the only place on the Westbank where you can get real gelato. Today I got a frappe and a chantilly lace cupcake. Both were delicious and I can't wait until Amore starts serving breakfast and lunch. As I was enjoying my treat, a lot of lawyers were in and out getting coffee and shaking hands (the courthouse is right across the street). I can tell that this little spot is going to be the place to see and be seen in old Gretna. I loved my experience here and I will return.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Really great Bakery in Downtown Historic Gretna! It seemed it took Amore so long to open...but once you see inside, you get it! The renovations are tasteful and thoughtful, a very inviting space. Ordered a couple of Café au Laits and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookies are huge and chewy. Pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee. Amore had many confections to choose from and if you are in the mood for something cold, they have a large selection of gelato. Really pleased to see a Local open up such a beautiful venue. Will probably be back time after time!

Lilly V.

Yelp
I'm in love. Living on the westbank I am super excited we now have a cafe with amazing sweets and coffees to choose from. The space is so cute and cozy that I don't even feel like I'm in the westbank. They serve Angelo Brocato's gelato!!! I'm a fan of Angelo Brocato and knowing that I am able to have their gelato at Amore makes me happy. So far I've tried their salted caramel cookie, mac cookie, and a Honey Bear Latte. They were all delicious! I can't wait to come back and try more pastries and coffees. I already know what I want during my next visit - an affogato and chocolate chip cookie. I just wish they were open on Sundays.

Jess C.

Yelp
What a cute and delicious cafe. I didn't get to try any coffee drinks but I can promise I will soon. I hope they start opening on Sunday's even if it's from 8-12. The inside is so well done. It got plenty of room for you to sit and enjoy your treats with a friend and chat about life. It's very inviting and comfortable. The treats in the case all look so appealing. We tried the Italian gig cook, because my mom is 100% Italian and makes these in huge batches every year... it passed the test! Tasted almost exact to our family recipe. The brownie was moist and gooey delicious. The chocolate cake was rich and mousy layer was to die for. We can't wait to come back. Unfortunately they don't open early enough for me to come before work and they are closed on Sunday so that leaves only Saturday visits for us, but we will make time to regularly come!

Mary C.

Yelp
Gorgeous old world Italian cafe with creamy hot chai tea lattes and delicious cheesecakes, cookies and gelato. Wonderful find!

Rebekah M.

Yelp
I visited this cafe with some friends and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. This is one of the most adorable and quaint little spots in Gretna. They had many people working and the service was exceptionally fast for as many people as they were serving. We ordered food and drinks and everything was delicious. The breakfast croissant and latte were both quality food items. I would come back and bring other friends and family.

Mike D.

Yelp
My go to spot for coffee! Customer service is always top tier and anyone that says otherwise is a Scrooge

Kelley T.

Yelp
What an absolutely stunning place! It's beautifully designed and decorated. The large mirror and chandelier in the entrance make bold statements. Even the restrooms are top notch, Old Gretna is lucky to have this bakery. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Tables were cleaned quickly. This morning I had a blueberry almond danish, which was heaven and a blended frappe that was smooth and creamy. I can't wait to return. I want to try the tiramisu, king cake cheesecake, red velvet, lemon turn over, pistachio cake, and so much more. My husband had a cappuccino and butter croissant.

Lisa Ha H.

Yelp
Such an adorable place in Old Gretna. First time here after dinner and looking for a nice place for desserts and coffee. Everything from the details on the walls, around the cafe to the delicious variety of pastries, gelato, and coffee were great. We ordered, *strawberry cheesecake, apple turnover, blueberry cheese danish, chocolate gelato, lemon gelato, white chocolate latte and mocha latte. Everything was spot on! You can't go wrong with this place. I didn't try the drip affagoto but heard it was bomb as well. Next time I'll have to try for sure. *The best cheesecake I've had anywhere around here!(coming from a baker myself, that's a compliment!) Will definitely recommend this place and come back!

Lynn W.

Yelp
This is the cutest cafe in the world. I posted a few stories about it and people thought I was in another place around the world, but it was Gretna. The coffee is good and they have the best desserts. I am dying to try all of them..

Kathleen G.

Yelp
Come to Amore for the best breakfast sandwich's on the Westbank you will not be disappointed & the coffee & frappe are great as well.

Yvette C.

Yelp
Starbucks can kiss my @$$. We were driving down Huey P. Long Ave. lamenting the decline of Starbucks and consequently the lack of a decent cup of coffee for our afternoon visit to Gretna, when my mom said, "Stop! Pull in right here. This is the best cup of coffee in town." My sister said, "I'm excited by the word 'Bakery'!" The ambience was evident even from the sidewalk. It was old school New Orleans West Bank from the start. As we walked in, my mom told the story of how this used to be a house with a jewelery store out front. In fact, my dad bought her wedding ring in this very spot! The history of the place adds to the charm. We were immediately impressed by the decor and clean lines of the cafe. Beautiful flooring, wrought iron handrail, arches, gilded mirrors and wallpaper!!! The staff were also obviously a cut above. (It always shows when you pay employees above minimum wage. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that is the case here.) They were dressed professionally and were friendly and welcoming without being overly so. We had so many pastry choices that we had trouble choosing and ordered multiple items for the table to share. Every. Single. Thing. was delicious. The frozen coffee drink was not too sweet, the cafe au lait was smooth and rich and not in any way bitter. The wedding cupcake and tiramisu were just decadent. We ended up sitting and visiting for hours and getting a second cafe au lait each. Do yourself a favor and skip the chain coffee stores. This boutique cafe has it all.

Danielle R.

Yelp
Love it!!!! Decor is amazing!! My favs are the Honey Bear latte and Tiramisu. The decor makes you feel completely relaxed and as though you were transported to a little European bakery. Always met by friendly baristas.

Dieu N.

Yelp
This is the cutest cafe in all of the Westbank and luckily, it's right in my neighborhood. It's charming, quaint, and the coffee is GOOD. Pop in for a breakfast sandwich on the weekends and stay for dessert. The honey bear latte and London fog are my favorite drinks, but when I need an extra boost of energy a double shot of espresso does the trick.

Peter N.

Yelp
Very beautiful coffee and bakery shop! Staff is always friendly and if a problem is brought to them it is corrected without an issue!
