12 Places to Celebrate Mardi Gras in D.C. | Eater DC

"It’s not to late to put in an order for king cake at this Northern Virginia bakery, with two locations in Vienna and Herndon. Both locations are taking orders today. In addition, there’s a Mardi Gras-themed menu featuring blackened chicken steak and shrimp Creole." - Tim Ebner

Amphora Bakery in Herndon, VA, offers a nice selection of pastries, cakes, and desserts in a charming atmosphere. The presentation is great, and the variety is impressive. It’s a good spot for a sweet treat.

Great service. Their cakes are amazing, tasty and just what we asked. Will definitely be keep buying here.

Personally, not for me. We ordered a couple cupcakes, a cookie, and a tiramisu via UberEats. We didn't really like any of them. The tiramisu is made with a dry cake instead of lady fingers. The cookie was a bit dry for me as well. The cupcakes were okay, a bit on the dry side, but I felt like the frosting was really dense and sweet. Based on other reviews, if this is your preference then it seems like a really nice local spot to get desserts from, but personally I don't think I'll order from them again.

When I looked at it from outside the store, it didn't look much different from a normal bakery, but the moment I went inside, the atmosphere of the store caught my eye! I couldn't take my eyes off the various cake samples and cookies, especially the kitchen behind the store. The spacious kitchen and the staff working on cookies in it gave me a more fresh feeling.

Amphora Bakery is my favorite bakery in the area. Their cakes and pies are amazing. They are beautifully and decorated with perfection. The only time I see slight imperfections is when the strawberries are not in season. As a result, the strawberries are not bright red and perfectly shaped. They sell cookies, cupcakes, individual smaller slices of cakes, whole cakes, pastries, custom cakes, etc... Their cannollis are delicious, too. Customer service is excellent. I wanted a cake that they regularly have available, and I called the day before and they reserved it for me to pick up the next day. Because this bakery location was closed that day, I was able to conveniently pick it up at the Amphora Deluxe Diner down the street, which opens 24/7. Their cake prices range from around $30 or more. The individual pieces of cake are about $4 -5 each. If you are price sensitive, don't be afraid to ask, because there are no prices displayed by the cakes.

I purchased a cake for my son’s birthday. The cake looked amazing and tasted great. We can’t wait to try more of their desserts in the future.

Google
Overall, good quality, above average customer service ( but not impressive). Price? Higher than grocery store bakeries, almost twice. But, I don't like to buy cakes from Giants, Safeway, or Harris Teeters ( except Whole Foods, which are good), I don't like their style and taste, so to me, it is worth the extra price. They have several types of cookies, cakes, pastries, macaroons, and baklava. Besides, they have frozen-style cakes, ice cream, cold soft drinks, and coffee. Service? Not fast. There are a few tables inside to sit and eat. For the cakes, If you want a cake for a special occasion, I recommend ordering it at least 10 days in advance, unless you choose something from their typical daily basis. Parking? Not good, especially around noon or evening time.

Yelp
Very solid bakery option close to Reston. The cakes are beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend the lemon coconut but you can't go wrong with any of the varieties. Be sure to call ahead and order as they tend to run out of certain flavors early.

Yelp
So stale. I've never eaten a cake this bad before. The service was terrible. I asked the employee what their favorite cake was, and they said they don't eat here; now I understand why. Normally I don't leave reviews even if I don't like something, but I'm making an exception just for this place. -10/10"

Yelp
How is it possible that there is a nearby bakery that I didn't know about?  So, much was my delight to discover and visit the Amphora Bakery in Herndon.  Amphora, locally, is a very well known name for diners which happened to feature a lot of cakes.  And, now I know where they came from.  The Amphora bakery has a very wide selection and all the ones I tasted were good, including, the canolois, cream puffs, napoleons, fruit tarts and brownies.  The whole storefront was also so festive with seasonal decorations both on and around the cakes and cupcakes.  Another great aspect of the Amphora bakery is the room upstairs that you can rent.  We had a great event up there with the goodies flowing from the downstairs to the upstairs to down the hatch!  Plus, from this second floor area, you can overlook the working part of the bakery.  So, while you are appreciating the beauty and taste of the many, many baked goods, you can attest to all the people who are working to make them.  The bakery is located in a spot with plenty of parking so you don't have to waddle too far to your car after indulging in all the great treats.

Yelp
We had just finished lunch in the area and were looking for a coffee shop that served desserts. After searching, we finally found a place that satisfied our sweet cravings. The bakery was on the ground floor with additional seating upstairs, making it quite spacious. While there were many colorful and attractive displays of cakes around the shop, some of them appeared to be old and covered in dust. We ordered coffee, individual-sized cheesecake, and another sweet treat, which were okay but could have been more outstanding. Overall, the service could have been better and more memorable.

Yelp
I've enjoyed the baked goods from Amphora Bakery for several decades - primarily the location in Vienna, VA that no longer exists. What I just recently discovered - is the Amphora Bakery in Herndon, VA - is and has been the primary baking location all this time (one of the ladies working behind the counter shared that info tidbit with me when I visited). One of the things that is indelibly etched into my brain is their Chocolate-Raspberry cake - which I've not had for decades (my Mom purchased one from them for my birthday one year - and that cake made an impression on me!). They still make Chocolate-Raspberry cakes. I wasn't in the market for a whole cake - but they also make cupcake versions of some of their flavors - so I opted for the Chocolate-Raspberry Cupcake. Of course it was rich and tasty! The Raspberry creme frosting was decadent! One thing I will ding them on - is they only accept cash and traditional credit cards. They do not accept any form of digital payment (Apple Pay for example). I politely advised them while I was paying that they should accept digital payment - pretty sure nothing will change on that front. Not that most people would - but if you did want to consume your baked goods on the premises - there are some tables and chairs available. Service was good. #AmphoraBakery

Yelp
Have always heard of this plzce but never had a chance to go. Their desserts are okay. A bit too sweet for my taste. This place however is decorate in very cute decors and their cakes and cupcakes are decorated so cute as well. Staff were friendly. The creme brulee doesn't have the crunchy sugar on the top and their creme brulee is a bit more cakey than I would like.

Yelp
I just had the most amazing pastry hands down the best I have ever had by far. can't wait to try more next time. What a wonderful website too. Cakes looks. Amazing

John H.

Yelp
Excellent desserts, esp. the baklava! Prices are now more reasonable, too. I almost always eat there, either inside or out.

Sadia K.

Yelp
My daughter requested a very specific type of cake for her birthday, and I called Amphora 2 days before her birthday to beg them to make a custom cake. They came through with a beautiful cake that was also delicious! The bakery itself is so cute, with so many options.

Yelp
BLUF: A nice place to sit down for some good chat with your favorite people, but the cakes were nothing special. The ones in the cases looked nice, but the cakes were dry & unremarkable on the inside. The buttercream was kinda blah. Service was 50/50. First staff member looked really annoyed that we were asking questions about the goods & was not at all welcoming nor hospitable. The other who eventually served us was absolutely wonderful & quite the opposite of her co-worker. She seemed like a person who would go out of her way to make sure you left a happy customer. While the cakes, cookies, cupcakes looked appealing & much better than I could ever create, they didn't seem as unique & tasty as you would expect a specialty bakery to push out. The cookies looked like those you could get at a supermarket but more expensive. The lemon blueberry cake that I had was bland, dry, and the buttercream filling was sugared out- gritty, dry, just sugary with weak flavors barely coming through. While it looks like a nice little cafe you'd want to sit & enjoy, they don't sell slices. The small rounds & cupcakes are your best bet, but nothing like tasting an actual slice of their cakes. Based on the small, pricey mini that I chose, I'd not splurge on their full size cakes. As full size cakes go, the price seemed fair, but be aware that your cake may just be so-so. I've enjoyed more delicious cakes from a grocery store & paid less. If you're in the area, need a break, want a cup of java, and have a sweet tooth, it's a decent place to try. If you want stronger coffee, Weird Brothers is across the way. There's also a place next door to grab a bite to eat. Should I ever go back to the Amphora diner, I'd probably have a slice of cake. Why? 'Cause it's just what you do at a diner! Maybe the cakes taste better after indulging in all the salty diner yums, but at this point, I'd find another bakery from which to purchase a specialty cake.

Yelp
I have been coming to Amphora Bakery for years. Every-time I go, the one cake I have been ordering during many occasions is the Fruit Bavarian Cake. I am usually trying to stay away from deserts that just taste like sugar overload. This cake is the perfect balance with just the right amount of sweet, tart, refreshing, and light. I love how soft and fluffy the yellow cake is, the slight tart from the raspberry preserve filling, the sweet cream and almond pieces complimenting it all together and finishing it up with refreshing fruits. An absolute perfect cake for any occasions. Anytime I get it, everyone has loved it and ask where I get it from. The service here is outstanding also, I picked it up the day before Christmas Eve with no issue, the lady behind the counter was very friendly and welcoming and getting my order quickly so I was able to be in an out.

Yelp
The service was fine. The cupcakes that I bought for a birthday celebration were strange- while the cake part was fine, the piled-high icing, which looked delicious, actually tasted horrible. Even the young kids at the party scraped it off! The only way to describe it is like whipped shortening mixed with a little vanilla, a bit of sugar and some food coloring. What a disappointment!

Yelp
Ordered from here on doordash about 20 minutes after they opened. Got a cheese danish, chai latte, strawberry shortcake, and tres leches. Cheese danish tasted... strange compared to the other bakeries under this franchise. Both cakes were dry and soggy at the same time. Strawberries were slightly discolored and tasted strange but i paid no mind. Put it in the Fridge on a Friday, came to finish the other half on sunday not realizing the strawberries had all turned grey with mold in the span of 2DAYS. Then the tres leches, soaked in milk but somehow still dry. I'm sure they gave me cakes from a previous day because i ordered to early to have anything fresh. 0/10 do not recommend.

Yelp
Lemon blueberry cake and Strawberry shortcake are both amazing!! The cupcakes are a bit dense, the frosting is very dense and too sweet. I had the blueberry cupcake, was hoping it was going to have blueberries in the cup cake, but it did not. The frosting is the blueberry element. Although it didn't taste much like a blue berry. I got both my coworkers the salted caramel cupcakes and they also stated they were overly sweet. After trying the cakes which were airy and flavorful I thought the cupcakes would be as well. Perhaps a blueberry compote piped inside and a lighter style frosting would help. Definitely will kee patronizing them for the cakes!

Yelp
I ordered cupcakes from Amphora for my wedding. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious, and the owner was very prompt and clear with communication. The special cupcakes we got for our gluten free guests were also excellent! Highly recommended.
google avatar

Leinani S.

Yelp
An unexpectedly large bakery with a separate seating area upstairs for enjoying coffee and the bakery item of your choice. They offer specialty cake designs to order, seasonal themed cakes to carry out and decorated cupcakes and cookies plus other bakery items like turnovers and scones to eat in or take away. The cake designs are particularly extravagant and specialty designs can be quite pricey. The cupcakes were well priced and delicious. Sadly the cookies, though beautifully decorated, were not very flavorful. Overall the value for money is just average, though if you are looking for an extravagant specialty cake design this bakery might just be the answer to your prayers!

Yelp
I ordered a custom cake for my son from here. The order process was smooth 5/5. The pick up process was not great. The lady at the counter was extremely rude and unpleasant. She seemed to be the person in charge. Now on to the cake part. I ordered an expensive cake from DC a couple of days back from a DC store for half the price I paid this store and it was mind blowing. This was just the opposite. It was just tons of sugar and crème with no flavor. The cake was really bad. I don't know if their catalog cakes would have made any difference. The guests hardly ate it, had to throw pretty much all of it.
google avatar

L D.

Yelp
They did a great job decorating a cake and matching cookies for me. I sent them a picture of exactly what I wanted and their decorators matched it. The cake was decent. Its a heavier, denser cake and the buttercream frosting is dense and thick, like cutting into a piece of softened butter. The cookies were really good and well decorated.

Yelp
I had been searching for a bakery to create a dessert bar for my daughter's wedding. I had one of their cakes at a baby shower and it knocked our socks off. I asked, do you do mini desserts for a dessert bar? Oh brother do they!! We had 7 flavors of shooters, 6 flavors of mini-cupcakes, mini chocolate cheesecakes, baklava cigars, chocolate lovers petit fours and four flavors of truffle balls. And that is a fraction of what is available. Everything was amazing and people were raving. I ordered some little to-go containers and put them out near the end of the wedding for people to take some with them. These things have to be ordered in advance so to try them I ordered a sampling and took them to a large family gathering for a tasting. I'll be ordering more in the future. The venue was 25 miles from the bakery, but they had no problem delivering and know how to do it. Treats arrived right on time and delivery fee was surprisingly low.

Yelp
What's up with the lack of love for this place from the Yelp community? Amphora is everything we dream of in a bakery. Amphora has a wide variety of desserts, large and small, served to take-away or eat-in in a pleasant setting. We tried the black and white cookie, raspberry linzer, and lemon bar on our first two visits. BONUS: Good value TIP: You can get an authentic black and white cookie here; a find outside NYC.

Yelp
Holy cow. I bought 4 cupcakes there and paid $20. That's a little insane. They charge more than they do at the famous "Georgetown Cupcakes" place in DC! There, the cupcakes are $3.50 each!! And that's IN DC!! At Amphora, the items behind the counter don't have pricing information, so be sure to ask how much each is before you buy. While the cupcakes were not bad, they were definitely absolutely over priced. For $20 you can almost get a small cake elsewhere. But OK, my mistake for not asking before buying. It was a special treat then. The girl who took my order for a cake was friendly and attentive. But I just ordered a regular chocolate cake. Other than that, their service outside the bakery is terrible! At least that was my experience. I tried to order that small chocolate cake online, but it's not possible somehow (or at least I couldn't find that function on their website). So I called them several times, but no one answered the phone, and the answering machine referred me back to their website. Ugh! I ended up driving to the store, and spent 30 minutes out of my day to just order a small cake. I paid $36 for a small 7" inch double chocolate cake -- so it better be good!! Will write more updates on cake etc, so stay tuned!

Yelp
We've been ordering from Amphora for a few years. If you haven't tried their Lemon Blueberry cake, you're seriously missing out. It's always so fresh and tasty!

Yelp
Unique experience! I visited Herndon area to try Weird Brother's Coffee but never realized their seating was so limited so I found Amphora Bakery right across from them. I never realized that baking factory can operate cafe together but for me, it was very smart. When you stepped into the bakery cafe, you would see arrays of baked goods (cupcakes, cakes, pies, macaroons, candies, rice crispies, baklava, and more). They have bottled drinks as well as espresso-based drinks. They have some seating areas including a corner for special design cake on the first floor. They have a loft floor for extra seating spaces while you can watch patissiers work on their own pieces. The smell of butter is so comforting. I enjoyed the time studying there despite loud machinery sound. I tried their americano and my friend had a latte and a mocha. We shared baklava and it was darn good as what I expected. Buttery, sugary, and nutty I LOVED IT. I'm planning to go there again. Hopefully, I can introduce a different type of cafes like Amphora to my others friends :D

Yelp
This elegant bakery can make custom cakes and cookies to order, but it is also a super spot to pop in for a coffee and a sweet treat! Upon walking in, all of your senses are engaged... the smell, the bright colors, the creativity, the sound of baking and coffee being hand crafted, and the beaufiful lighting really encourages you to stay a while! You can sit downstairs or come upstairs to a loft/cat walk area and watch the bakers melt chocolate, ice cookies and cakes, and whip up icing by the barrel! It's so fun to watch them work! I was impressed with how Cleese and streamlined the kitchen was!

Yelp
It's risky business ordering Thanksgiving pies from a place you've never patronized, but the sweet potato pie at Amphora was well worth the risk. Hands down, the best sweet potato pie I've had this decade. It looks and tastes nothing like your typical sweet potato pie. On top of a creamy filling that appears to be made with white sweet potatoes rather than the familiar orange ones, lays a pretty layer of fluffy golden marshmallow meringue. The pie crust is flaky and tender but holds up well and doesn't fall apart at just the sight of a fork. The combination makes for a light and delicious dessert that is sweet but not over the top, and very satisfying. It was a hit at Thanksgiving dinner. For my first taste of Amphora sweets, the sweet potatoe pie gets two thumbs up and a guarantee that I will return to try more of the menu!

L S.

Yelp
I'm so thrilled with how this cake turned out for my cousin's baby shower yesterday. The fondant in the shape of peaches on top looked perfect and captured the exact look I was going for. The fresh peaches inside the cake with the buttercream layer was also wonderful. Thank you, Amphora!

Ritwik D.

Yelp
I had ordered this cake for 13 people for my husband's bday and Amphora made sure to accompany a customized cake for such small number of people. Maria was kind enough to accommodate my requirement and make sure the entire purchase was smooth and efficient. I already placed second order for my colleagues and returning back as a happy customer.

Yelp
We celebrated my daughter's sweet 16 with one of their cakes. The cake was beautiful and that is where the beauty ends... This cake was the most overrated cake I have ever tasted in my life. Not to mention I said chocolate cake at least a dozen times to the clerk who seemed more interested in doing anything other than her job. When we cut into it, we found white sponge with some type of chocolate paste holding it together. Pretty sure the likes of Paul Hollywood would have ripped this cake to shreds. To use his words, "all form no substance and not lovely to eat." Very mediocre cake at best. Right on par with Little Debbie or Tasty Cakes and not worth any $199.29. Oh and the bunny cookies, we bought to go with it....worst shortbread ever. We should have read reviews before patronizing this bakery. A three-star average rating is the very definition of mediocrity and lousy service.

Yelp
Amphora has become our family's go-to place for celebratory cakes and confections. Their cakes are gorgeously decorated and deliciously flavored. I prefer buying their ready-made cakes in the display and adding text to it versus ordering a custom-made cake. Their cake prices are definitely not cheap, especially if you choose to order a custom-made cake. Their basic offerings are either vanilla or chocolate based cake and buttercream; all other flavor options start adding up exponentially. And cake prices do not include design prices. By buying their ready-made cakes, you have flavor options to choose from that are all about the same price. Although we have not yet gotten the chance to taste their other offerings, I can definitely say I would go back for their cakes.

Yelp
This was the worst experience and most disappointing bakery ever!!! I went into amphora bakery to speak to the manager Donna to place my order of a square cake on 5/10 to be pick up on 6/5. I asked to have an image on the cake with chocolate and some fruits in on a square cake to fit the imago right on it. So Donna emails me a day or so later saying vanilla cake with some fruits, I repeated myself in the email and I asked for chocolate cake with fruits. So she sent me the revised order with I agreed to and paid for the cake when I was at their shop over $100!! So Saturday 6/5, I went to pick up the cake at 11:30, thinking that I'd pick up the cake in few mins depending on how busy they are then go pick up the food I ordered for my party. So the girl at the register shows me the cake, the cake had "happy birthday Steven and Zain!" I'm like where is the image???!!????!!???, knowing that fact that I emailed Donna the image I wanted on the cake! So Donna comes and she is like it's a quick fix, so she took cake to the back and put the wrong image on the cake looking really ugly! Also wrote the massage on the side of the cake. Instead of doing a square cake she choose a round cake. I specifically asked for square cake so the image would come out right. Oh let me mention that; that "Quick Fix" took 40 mins!!! And I was late to pick up the food. I had no other choice and got the cake and left. I couldn't wait to leave that place. I WILL NEVER EVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM!! Or even step into that place!!! This cake was ordered in person close to a month ago and they acted like it was nothing where it was very important to me. They either need to fire Donna who can't even take a cake order or train the employees in the back. Very disappointed!! Attaching photos to prove everything. First photo is what needed to be on the cake and second is the wrong one. I do not recommend this place!!

Georjeanne E.

Yelp
I have been getting cakes at Amphora for more than 20 years. I love an almond/amaretto flavored cake and Amphora is one of the few bakeries that make it. I recently ordered a cake for a baby shower. I ordered on a Saturday, via email. Before the end of the day, I had a response. I had made an error in my order, and sent an email with the correction. I received an email confirming the correction. I paid for the cake, and the next day received a complete receipt, verifying exactly what I wanted. Great attention to detail to ensure that I was getting exactly what I wanted. Amphora is my "go to" bakery for delicious cakes!
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
I ordered a cake for a party here, having taken in a photo of exactly what I wanted (it was a simple design, but a variation on one they offer already, so I wanted to be clear on the order). The photo was included on my order with their note to staff to "see image for style." Went to pick up the cake day-of event -- no dice. The design was applied not at all how I ordered, but instead exactly like the picture in their book. I expressed my disappointment, which was met with a shoulder shrug from the cashier and a blank look from the chef, with no offer to try to make a correction. I did receive a promise that a manager (the one I'd confirmed the order with, ironically) would contact me. Two weeks later and one email to him, nada. A $200 cake should be prepared as ordered. Steer clear of a bakery that clearly cannot follow directions in print and by photo, and has employees who either shrug off an error or ignore the customer.

Yelp
This place is yummy deliciousness!! You will come here and want everything! Word to the wise...custom cakes are very expensive! But whole cakes in the display are reasonably priced! Worth the trip!! Also they offer Birthday parties and decorating classes!

Yelp
Amphora is truly the best bakery in the entire Northern Virginia area. Their cakes are phenomenally decorated and delicious the same. I've had the distinct pleasure of enjoying their outstanding baked goods and food catering service since 1998 without the least disappointment. Amphora's service team is incredibly awesome also. Donna and her team will go above and beyond to create wow factor cakes in both quality and taste that cannot be matched in this area. The owners built a brand that will outlast all others for years to come. Thanks, Amphora, for making my events a huge wow factor success!

Tara B.

Yelp
I have been dining at Amphora since moving to the area. Never had a bad experience, always positive. The food is delicious especially if you stick to the Greek and Mediterranean items. Their pies are actually award winning. Their moussaka and pistachio are sooo good that at times sell out which are sad days for me since those are my go to items. But only happened twice . Plus the hours are great.

Yelp
A great bakery, excellent variety, always delicious. Limited stock for spontaneous pick up, better to order ahead of time .

Yelp
Came in to the bakery at 5:00pm on a Sunday looking to grab some coffee, dessert and check some cakes out for an upcoming party. I asked the lady (brenda on the receipt) for some suggestions, she ignored me and acted as if she didnt hear me. So my fiance and I waited a few minutes and he asked for coffee and a cake. We were the only ones there and it was 5:10 now. My fiance kept telling me she was off and in a bad mood and he wanted to leave after seeing how she was treating people but I said maybe she's having a bad day. Another couple walked in, she was not attentive to them either and they had some cake question and were looking in the booklets, they ended up leaving. An older couple walked in a few minutes after, now 5:20 and Brenda tells the couple, "no we don't have coffee now." The poor couple ended up getting cakes with no coffee because the lady chose to brew it. There's 40 minutes left for the store to close, how do you not have coffee ready? How do you just turn your customers away? They looked so confused and disappointed to come have coffee and dessert and not be given coffee. To me, it seemed so upsetting that someone chose this place over Dunkin donuts or starbucks and were turned down coffee because the employee was lazy. Have coffee ready and be available to serve until 6pm! I went to ask her for some cake questions, she answered none of which I wanted to know. I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, like maybe she was having a bad day -- but she was just rude to everyone and kept ignoring people and turning them away. It's a shame I went in looking for a cake, cake pops and cupcakes for 100 people for an event and will NOT be giving my business to Amphora anymore. Please train this lady on how to work a bakery with desserts and beverages...or tell her to find a job elsewhere. (I have a photo of the receipt and time attached so management can see)

Yelp
This is an amazing bakery. The cakes are incredible and their selection of sweets is second to none. Had their Baklava and a Latte and it was incredible. Don't miss this place.

Yelp
I ordered a Boston Cream Pie, a traditional one that the Parker House in Boston serves. It was for the Christmas Eve dessert and I special ordered it. When I opened the box to serve it, I was shocked. It was NOT a Boston Cream Pie. What I ended up with was a chocolate overload that most ended up in the garbage.

Yelp
I've had cakes from amphora before and loved them. This time, however, I was extremely disappointed by the quality and the taste. We ended up throwing the rest of the cake away. The white icing or white chocolate (or whatever it was supposed to be) was thick, tasteless, and just awful. Almost like it was a stick of unsweetened butter in-between the dry layers of the cake itself. The raspberry jam was the only thing that tasted like it was supposed to taste. This cake missed its mark in a big way. So disappointed and unfortunately, has turned us away from this particular bakery.

Yelp
I'm changing my review since the owner reported my review so it could be deleted. I felt Maria Cholakes was rude and disrespectful to the customers and employees. This is just a fancy looking bakery with a bad customer service.

Yelp
We showed up at 545pm. They close at 6pm. She said they start closing earlier and can't make us a Chai. If you close at 6pm, then you close at 6, not 5 or 530, and if a customer wants a Chai at 559pm, then you should do your job and make that Chai. If you don't like your job, then that's your problem.

Yelp
We used to order custom cakes from here years ago for weddings and other celebrations. Recently, we moved in the area and I would grab their ready made cakes for any gathering. We have always been satisfied with their service and cakes. I go to crossfit across from there 3 times a week and today a friend and I were early and decided to grab something from Amphora before class starts. Next to the cannolis were chocolate balls and I wanted to know what they were so the guy (never caught his name) nicely explained what it was and that it contained rum. I don't do anything alcohol so I said oh then I'll just grab two cannolis. He packs up a box and at the register I asked if I can have two boxes. He said they are out of small boxes. So I asked if I can have two of the same size box then. He said he can't do that because the box is big and they can't waste boxes and the two fit in that box perfectly. I said one is for me and one for my friend we are going to take it with us not eat there. He said we have to just deal with the one box. Excuse me! Like not my fault you ran out of smaller boxes and you can't give up one more box??? It's for two different people and it is going home and we live at two separate locations! He started getting all sassy. By the way he wears black frame glasses is skinny, tall with black hair up to his shoulders almost and worked the night shift tonight 2/4/20. So now I'm like do you have a plate or anything, he gives a plate. He rings me up and I pay. While in the store I wanted to give my friend the box with her cannoli and I'll just take mine in the plate. Open the box to see they weren't even cannolis they were the rum balls. Even my friend had heard me ask for cannolis not rum balls. I go back to him and told him and he insisted I said rum balls and I know thats impossible cuz even my friend heard me say cannolis and I would never order anything with alcohol. He didn't even acknowledge the mistake HE made. He said well the cannolis are more expensive. Fine charge me the difference. He said 62 cents is the difference I gave him my card and he said don't you have any change, no I do not! You don't have any cash? No I do not only my card. He said it won't accept it. Gave him my other card and it won't accept it. My cards work because I used it after and before class so I know they work. That means the store doesn't accept that small amount on cards. Fine then just give me my money back. I can't do that you will have to talk to someone else. Fine let me talk to someone. He then says he is the only one there right now. OMG! Why would you say to talk to someone else when no one else is there!!! By the way his sassiness never left him he was so rude the entire time just made the whole experience so much worse. Finally said to just give me something of equal price. There were two cupcakes left of two flavors I don't even like and we just said give em so we can just leave. Absolutely, ridiculous attitude, service and policies. Can't get another box, can't get a refund, can't charge any amount on card and had to deal with such sass and attitude from the guy when it was all his mistake to begin with. Their products are good but not worth the hassle. Done with this place, there are many other good bakeries around.

Yelp
Sent my hubby here at the last minute to get a cake for Valentine's weekend and he bought the "strawberry shortcake" cake that was already made and ready for purchase. It was the BEST cake that I've had in a long time. Omg. The strawberries were coated with some gooey, sugary glaze that when you took a bite the strawberry was perfectly ripe inside. The yellow cake was moist and the icing was light and not overbearing. I just recovered from an illness recently and I didn't each much while I was sick, so this cake literally had me on the verge of tears it was so good! Lol I can't wait to buy it again.

Yelp
I've been ordering from Amphora for over a decade and their ability to customize cakes is top notch. A recent experience has left me wondering about using them in the future. There was a lot of misleading and incorrect information given via email during the design process, response lags, and when the final design was agreed upon and documented, the final execution was not correct. It resulted in a $10 refund (for missing filling) of a $400 cake, where as the itemized amount never listed $10 for filling. It was a very messy process and over inflated cost without exceptional service. They need to work on their response times, clear communication, and itemizing every single part of the cake.

Yelp
Extremely rude wedding consultant. We want to order a custom cake and she was busy with some wedding party. My kids were talking about a cookie so she comes over and tells us to be quiet. They NEED A REAL PFFICE WHERE THEY CAN TALK TO THEIR WEDDING CUSTOMERS. Our $500 cake is of no value to then.

Yelp
Amazing bakery with a great team. Maria was extremely helpful and helped design a cake that fit within my budget. They create amazing designs and I can always rely on them for the perfect cake. Just work with them on your needs and they will help you out!
