"Located in South Boston, where it has been for over a century, Amrheins boasts the oldest hand-carved bar in America as well as the first draft beer pump in Boston. And, as of a few years ago, you can also start the day here steeped in history: The restaurant absorbed landmark Southie diner Mul’s, and the diner now serves breakfast and lunch out of Amrheins seven days a week." - Erika Adams, Katie Chudy

We went for breakfast. I had the number 5 and my husband had a build your own omelet. It was delicious and good prices. It was the best breakfast we had all week. Not a lot of staff so she was a little behind because a few tables came at once I guess. She was hostess and server. I didn't see another server.

Google
Great goodness! The hash, lordy, the hash! Best I have ever put in my mouth! Delicious. Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bite and 1 small town at a time! Explore everything!

Google
Great food! Service was fast and very nice. The fries I had with my order were rlly good! The server recommended me one of their pumpkin seasonal drinks and it was delicious!!!! Overall a nice experience, would definitely recommend!

Google
The bar was quaint and homey with an old school vibe, and the server was nice and attentive. However, the food was absolutely terrible. Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life.

Roland Breneus

Google
The food was amazing. I Loved the variety of the menu. They pay attention to food details. Everything I tasted was great. Made me want to come back to test the rest of the menu. Service was just average, not exceptional but also not disappointing. Location is exceptional. Easy to get to with a huge parking. Something you don't usually find in South Boston.

Google
My server was great. That’s where the good ends. I think all of these high reviews come from the breakfast service. The dinner menu is pretty simple and unimaginative but they seem to have something that most people will be able to find. From the menu: CHICKEN AND CHERRY TOMATO PASTA….chicken, cherry tomatoes and pasta in a garlic, Parmesan cheese and tomato sauce with a hint of red pepper. A hint of red pepper? I don’t know how a ‘hint’ is defined but this was far more than a hint. This was excessive and bordered on inedible because it was too much. I realize that tastes differ and levels of tolerance differ, but 3 of 4 people at my table I asked to sample it thought it was too hot.

Delicious salty and sweet breakfast! I love pancakes and the stack of three with strawberries are my favorites and the best in South Boston and Seaport area!😉🥞☕️🫖 Enjoy the refillable coffee!

Google
Exceptional customer service and a great environment. We were treated like valued customers and really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and Steak Pie. Both were on the special menu. I would have given five stars for the food but the Chicken Pot Pie was a bit bland and the pastry was rubbery. Overall, we will go back if in the area. If you are just visiting and want to go to a great local place where you will not be treated like a non-local 'and' you will get great food, simply go here.

Yelp
It's my first time in Boston and I walked from the Cambria Hotel in the misty snow. MAN it was cold and I was starving! A 5 min walk but I was happy to see a clean welcoming space to warm up. The aesthetic reminds me of the TV SHOW CHEERS. I say at the bar since I was alone and waited about 6-8 min for a waitress. When she came back to the bar she apologized for the wait and got me a menu. I ordered the Roasted Beet salad and sweet potato fries. Boring order I know .... But I felt the entrees weren't really my style. The salad took about 6 min but they were very busy with large tables of ppl so I was happy about the prompt food delivery. I would walk here again if I had too.

Nathanel J.

Yelp
A charming place in a charming city... My crew and i met here for a work dinner meeting some vendors. The food was a bit underwhelming but the staff made up with great service and personable attitudes. Being in Boston, i ordered fish and chips and while the fish was fried perfectly golden and crunchy, i struggled to find any flavor. I also had an espresso martini from the bar, nothing special there either. For dessert we shared the cheesecake and the crème brûlée. Both desserts were good but nothing to write home about. All and all, i would come back based on the great serviced we received and the inviting atmosphere. I'd love to try something else on the menu to see if maybe i did not get their best dish.

Humberto B.

Yelp
Slow service on a Saturday night. Not a lot of people there but still the service was not great. Food is your typical bar with tons of fried options. No reason to go back!

Michael G.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere, the employees and the food. Best corned beef hash I've ever had. Had breakfast there on Sunday(visiting from WI) and had to go back Monday morning before we headed to the airport. Would definitely make this a must stop if we ever make it back to Boston. SO GOOOOOOD!

Connie C.

Yelp
The original Mul's diner has merged into Amrheins. Definitely lost the diner vibe, but the food is still good. Miss the old southie classic, but at least the must-get creme brulee French toast is still on the menu. Service is a little slow because they seem short staffed, but the food came out pretty quickly. Free private Parking lot is abundance next door and free 2-hr street parking if need.

Angel P.

Yelp
A group of us came for Sunday brunch and we sat outside. They have a private parking right next to the restaurant which is very convenient. You can order lunch items after 11am. I ordered the number five (two eggs, french toast, home fries, bacon or sausage) with the additional charge of having creme brulee french toast. There's no drink menu but I got the man-mosa (vodka mimosa) which was what our waitress recommended when we wanted mimosas. Man-mosas were good. It was just like diner food, so it was good, for diner food that is. Home fries and bacon were good, but eggs were disappointing. The creme brulee french toast is good, and I would recommend it, but it was a little too sweet for me. The maple syrup comes in individual packets. Service was good, and would check on us as often as she could as she seemed like the only person serving outside.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Perfect meeting place for a business breakfast. I think it was called Workman's $ 5.95 breakfast before 9 AM. Big comfy booth. Attentive service. Ample parking. Walk to T, will definitely use this as a meeting spot again, very convenient.

Scott W.

Yelp
Solid breakfast. Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes. Great service. Quick meal in and out. Great price for the breakfast.

Brooke C.

Yelp
I went to Amrheins for breakfast and it was very refreshing to see how affordable their options are. Their breakfast foods were yummy and our server was kind and attentive. It's an old establishment founded in 1890 and the ambience reflects the history of the restaurant. I've gone back since to get their eggs Benedict to go!

Boojee L.

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVE their spicy broccoli. Their food is affordable and fresh, and their staff and service is always soo nice. I love the ambiance. They close way too early for my liking early on in the week, but they hands down have the BEST broccoli in Boston. Not too hard, not too soft, & soo flavorful I drink the broth. Lol, Sounds like a song or a commercial lol holla at ya boy I'll be your spokesperson ;) (This rating was given based on the spicy broccoli only.)

Michelle K.

Yelp
Great stop for breakfast! French toast was wonderful, service was attentive and good. Comfortable seating and great atmosphere.

Tee L.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday for drinks, said I would return on Monday and my server, Jamie, remembered me. She's such a blast! She remembered exactly what we had the day before and the breakfast was rather tasty. She's all over the place, but she's doing everything. Maybe she needs some help! Anywho, it was a great time! Thanks ma'am!

Sophia M.

Yelp
It was pretty empty during the weekday so we had not problems with lines! We came for the corn beef hash and creme brûlée French toast and it did not disappoint. Food is fairly priced and would continue to come back!

Angela C.

Yelp
Echoing another yelper and photo credit to them. This lady was absolutely rude. She yelled at staff and customers. She called it her bar. If she owns it, she is going to go out of business. If she doesn't, the owner needs to get her under control.

Jessica M.

Yelp
We found this place through Google reviews and it absolutely deserves 5 stars. We were sat within 5 minutes, the waitress Sam (who is amazingly sweet, and super attentive) was at our table in less than a minute. Food, and atmosphere was great, my husband had the breakfast burrito (bring your appetite) and i had the eggs Benedict, both were incredibly yummy and tasty. I think they are doing renovations at the moment, but nothing that would stop the great food, personable service, and the great vibes! Eat here now!

Nana C.

Yelp
Muls Diner is now at Amrheins. It still has that Southie vibe, With a bit of local flavor. The hand-carved antique bar is unique and gives an old Boston atmosphere. The omelet was cooked just the way I like it and the lightly seasoned home fries were delicious, although I prefer them cooked a bit longer. (I didn't ask for well done.) The blueberry pancakes were tasty. The server was friendly, and efficient, and returned frequently for coffee refills. I hope Amrheins remains open so we can return often.

Hanny F.

Yelp
Must have the creme brûlée French toast. Server was awesome and oldest hand carved one piece bar worth the visit.

Angela F.

Yelp
They are shown as an option to order from on DoorDash but then won't fulfill your order. My driver was waiting there for a while until someone finally told them "they don't do DoorDash," and didn't care to offer a solution- for example, we can't fulfill the order via DoorDash but are happy to make your order for pickup ." I called and the staff member that answered was rude and had an attitude as if it was my fault I ordered via DoorDash. If you aren't supposed to be on there then make a point to remove your restaurant and be more kind to potential patrons. Bad first impression.

Tina S.

Yelp
Tina's take: 9/10 I have to say this place is so cute! They have red booths you can sit at and high tops near the bar. We came for brunch and they have a full bar and it was great. The prices were really reasonable and There were no complains about the food. I got the crème Brulé French toast and it was to die for. I totally recommend!!! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars was because they need more workers because the staff was overwhelmed. Overall they were so nice and we were very understanding.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Service-where is my server?? Food-raw salmon (not a suggested medium) with no apology. Veggie of the day.. julienne mix of mush with very very bitter carrots. Ambience- Sunday evening, not busy. Music was not as bad as other southie bars but for the 12 people in there it didn't have to be loud.

Tangg T.

Yelp
I've ordered here a few times and without fail they've always forgotten something, this time it was no syrup for my pancakes, and no toast for my eggs.. I hate driving back to pick up things that should've been in my bag. So as a reminder, ALWAYS check your food before you leave..

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Extremely rude and unprofessional waitstaff. Server forgot drinks but still charged them to the bill. when we confronted the manager who was extremely racist and claimed "she can treat us however she wants". she dumped out our full drinks and physically Grabbed and pinched my arm to leave the bar as well as my other friends. Do not recommend.

Brendan M.

Yelp
They blame government handouts on lack of waitstaff while they shamelessly took 400k in PPP government handouts themselves. Never eat here the food is terrible and management awful

Marco C.

Yelp
We Left. First time here. Maybe they don't like strangers. No communication, no acknowledgement, no effort. Waited forever for a menu? Not crowded where a wait would be understandable, we left.

Travis W.

Yelp
First Time Visiting, Last Time Visiting on August 27th, 2021. Was looking for a quick bite today for the morning while visiting, and I've never felt so unwelcome as a customer. I sat at the bar, waited 20+ mins at the bar before being greeted. Not a matter of being busy either. Only 5 people are the bar, 2 of which already had their food, and the other 2 just waiting for their orders. I made many attempts to for eye contact with the bar tender, who would ignored me for a while, talking to a women at the end of the bar, throwing out old recipets, chatting with over servers, and just overall being only attentive only to those who clearly regulars. Finally when she comes over, I ask for a water with Lemon, and tossed a menu at me. No lemon in the water. 5 mins later comes back, and I ask for a Three without Homefries with a sub of a green veggie. "We don't do Subs here"...Ok, I'll got the #4 steak and eggs with a side of Bacon. Food takes another 15 mins or so, shows up, I ask for a refill on water, and also a Half Seltzer, Half Orange Juice.. "Oh you don't want the water?"...No, I'd like both, just a half seltzer half water. She walks away saying nothing. The food: Really small streak, dry eggs, dry store bought generic rye toast, small portion of potatoes, and 3 dry pieces of overcooked Bacon. Total $23. During this time, I'm waiting for the drink, watching the bartender continue to chat it up, she even pours a fresh thing of orange juice into a container, and just puts it away. The thing that prompted this review was after I was done eating. A new guest shows up next, she is IMMEDIATELY greeted, order her drink, gets her Mimosa within 2 mins, and is greeted with a quick convo and a menu. Literally sitting 2 seats down from me. Finally she comes back to me and says in the most lack luster and almost sarcastic way "Oh no, I forgot your drink, I'm so sorry". It's the first time in over 10 years I've never left a tip for a waiter. I worked in the food industry for 10 years, everything from pubs as a bar back to a server at a fine dining place. Never in my life would I ever do what this women behind the bar did. Especially since she was not even close to being busy or in the weeds. This was clearly a case of either not caring, couldn't be bothered, or not seeing me as one of the regulars. Maybe that's just how this place operates for the morning, maybe this place is complacent since the diner across the way was torn down for condominiums, but your restaurant morning bar tender is not great. Maybe consider a younger crowd that is more personal and ambitous.

Richard C.

Yelp
Old world service, a decent brunch menu, and hearty portioned Southie-style dinners. The bar can be LOUD. If you have an event this is an excellent place to plan it as they have a nice back room. The bar staff is nice and low-key, pretty good place after all these years,

Victoria B.

Yelp
tl:dr: food is like chain-fare but not cheap; service is awkward; parking is free; the bar is cool carved wood and marble but too high for eating It depends on what you're looking for. This place has a dedicated parking lot. If you need to drive, this is a decent choice. It's old school but not in a charming way. The menu is uninspired and unimaginative. It was probably written in 1959, without irony. It feels like chain-food, Abblebees or TGIF, but without the price-break or deals. I've never eaten one, but I know that you can get a steak with two sides at a chain for about ten bucks. Amrheins is more than twice that. The space is huge. It's separated into three areas: two large rooms with tables and booths (some with table linen and some without) and a bar with seating and adjacent bar-area high-tops and booths. The bar itself is gorgeous with marble and dark carved wood. It's also so high that it made sitting and eating difficult. I'm on the petite side and there's no way I'd be able to eat a meal there. It hits just above chest level. My date is over six feet and even he felt awkward with the height. We moved to the tables to eat. We were there around 7 p.m. for dinner on a Saturday evening, and even though we asked the hostess if we could move from the bar to a table, and were assigned a table by her (not the one we asked for), a crazed-looking server approached us immediately to warn us that he wouldn't get to us for 20 minutes. He seemed very upset that we'd been seated, and somehow thought we'd seated ourselves even though we hadn't. It seems they have a system run by the hostess of who gets waited on and when. This kind of thing could ensure good customer experience -- if it works. Because we had drinks and wanted to visit, we said no problem. Much later, a busboy of some sort approached us with menus as though we'd just arrived. I guess we were about to be waited on. We perused the menus and then after even more time had passed, we were again approached by the original server who said he was ready. We ordered an app and our meals at which point we were told that they were out of my choice, the meatloaf. Oh and out of a couple of other dishes, too. Obviously this was information we should have been given when we first sat at the bar with menus. Or when we first sat at the table with menus. Or when the busboy formally brought us menus. It's not helpful information when after an hour or so the busy server is finally asking us what we'd like to order. Clearly something missing organizationally. It's also surprising that they'd be out of one of the popular dishes so early in the evening, but not so surprising given how poorly staffed they were. The restaurant was, perhaps, one-quarter full. I didn't count the staff but it obviously wasn't enough to cover those of us who were there. These lapses might have to do with the clientele, which seems like it's all regulars, people who have been going to Amrheins for a thousand years. People who know what they're getting before they get there. If you're not one of these, be warned that the menu would give Gorden Ramsey an f-fibrillation. It's kitchen-nightmare long. So we order an app -- the calamari (which comes with a really weird sweet sauce, totally inappropriate to the fried squid) -- and, after a long pause where I had to re-consider the menu, we order our meals. Date got the shepherd's pie which at $17 seemed way overpriced for the portion. I got the steak tips ($21), which were supposed to come with the vegetable of the day: a canned green beans and carrot medley, which looked like something out of a high school cafeteria. They also offered broccoli, asparagus, or spinach for a $2 upcharge. What BS is this? Vegetable of the day is usually something fresh, something the chef picked up at the Farmer's Market. A girl can dream, ya know? I went with the asparagus, even though I was already buying a more expensive meal because they were out of my first and second choices. It's the really little things that turn me off a place. Server also asked me how I'd like the meat cooked. Diner, be warned: this question is a mere formality. It will not affect how your meat is cooked. I asked for "med-rare, closer to rare." I got "medium, closer to well." Oh well. It tasted good. So did the asparagus, which retained some crunch. But the mashed potatoes were lukewarm which really negatively affects taste and experience. It would have been nice, after such a long wait, to have hot food. On the plus side? Servers were all very nice. Everyone was nice. Other than as described above, there were no real lapses in service once service began. And even the weird delay was caused by management and staffing. Or maybe someone didn't show up to work that day?

Royce L.

Yelp
Pretty good bar/restaurant. A friend that is from the area suggested we go here for dinner. Lots of history. Decent sized place with a few seating options. Booths, tables, bar seating and high tops. The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice. I had the shrimp pasta and it was good. Everyone's dish was good. I was with a group of four. I tried the lobster Mac and cheese and that hit the spot as well. Dessert was pretty good too.

Jack D.

Yelp
A wicked friendly wait staff. A Super nice greeting when you walk in "Sit anywhere ya like." Pitch perfect breakfast. Simple but terrific home fries. Bacon just right and French Toast piled yummy high.

Melinda D.

Yelp
Great spot in an old building felt authentic Boston. Service mediocre but pleasant. Even with no substitutions, I got what I wanted: egg whites with spinach and excellent home fries, plus the creme brulee french toast. Unfortunately...eggs and french toast were cold, and coffee spilled all over our uneven table and no napkins for a long time. The bubbles bucket was a fun touch and it is good for groups. I'd give them another chance when in town but with a smaller group.

Teresa C.

Yelp
Went here with colleagues for lunch on a Thursday. They all had the Cobb Salad and enjoyed it. I had the Veggie Burger that tasted overall good. My only issue was that I could not eat a 4th of it since it was overcooked (hard as a rock). The waitress comped the sodas ordered to make up for it. I will try their Veggie Burger again as it seems the cook was just having a bad day.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
This place is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The waitress insulted my friends and I. The food was horrible and the meat was undercooked. I will never come here again and you shouldn't either.

Ben T.

Yelp
Good solid American brunch faire. Kids and two vegetarians had a breakfast that sticks!

Daniel N.

Yelp
My friend and I finally used our Groupon, which was valued at $70 worth of food. We arrived right during the dinner rush so the place was pretty packed, even so the hostess was able to seat us promptly. Between the both of us, we ordered the habanero chicken wings, basket of fries, 1 shrimp cocktail, lobster ravioli, and steak tips. Chicken wings: the habanero sauce was pretty spicy which I loved. Unfortunately the wings were pretty bland so I had to shake a decent amount of salt on them to get some taste. Fries: hand cut fries so I liked aspect. Came with a raspberry (maybe cranberry?) aioli dipping sauce thing...wasn't a fan. shrimp cocktail: literally only got 1 shrimp as they charge per shrimp and I really just wanted a taste. It was very fresh and plump, even better with their housemade cocktail sauce. lobster ravioli: my main dish was chock full of lobster chunks and various types of mushrooms, which I loved. It is a heavy cream-based sauce, so prepare yourself for the -itis afterwards. Unfortunately, it only comes with 3 raviolis, all of which were reheated since the centers were cold. That's fine, I know how a kitchen works - they premake the ravioli, likely freeze, and reheat with the sauce when the order comes in. My order happened to be one that wasn't thoroughly heated through. At this point I was pretty full from the apps so I wasn't going to complain as I would be reheating it anyway. Steak tips: my friend's main dish. he said they were pretty tasty and cooked exactly as he wanted. Also came with garlic mashed potatoes and a medley of vegetables which included green beans, broccoli, and squash. Overall the experience was positive. Our server was very attentive with refilling the waters and didn't give us any trouble for using the Groupon (if you do use one, please remember to tip on the full value of the meal! Don't skimp on the value of the service, unless they don't deserve it). Would we be back without one? Meh. I would definitely like to come back to try out the bar side and have some drinks.

Jen T.

Yelp
Went on a sat afternoon for lunch. Extremely limited menu. Food was awful. Appetizer served. Had to ask for silverware. Then server didn't bring us any plates. Payed 1/2 cash and half card. Not only did they charge my half but put a bank hold on card until Monday for entire amt of bill! Was never told about this.

Sthefano A.

Yelp
Sat us down and took 15 min to give us menus that we had to ask for lol. Server was borderline rude, didn't ask what we wanted to drink. 10 more min later asks what we want to order at this point we were like yeah let's get the fuck outta here. You want "not a care in the world customer service" for mediocre food from what it looked like. This is your spot.

Pam C.

Yelp
Solidly mediocre place - completely unoffensive and unmemorable. The bar is a nice place to relax and their drinks are fairly cheap (beers on tap for $6). Service can be slow when there are people - I think they're used to business being slow so when they get a little crowded during dinner time the bartender seems to become overwhelmed. Food is fine. I think it is a bit on the overpriced side but portions are rather large. Mostly heavy American selections, your usual steak and lobster type of stuff. The interior is very large (two large dining areas and also a patio) but they often will close more than half the restaurant so there will be a wait even though only a third of the dining room is being seated. Interior is nice and Amrheins has always been very clean. Service is very friendly but sometimes slow. Be on the lookout for Groupons and you can nab a good deal on the food.

Matt S.

Yelp
They had a sign up saying they didnt have staff due to no one wanting to work from govt handouts, but between his businesses the owner took 440k in PPp loans, so apparently he only cares about "handouts" if they are directly made to him. Pay your freaking staff.

Vivian C.

Yelp
Yet another voucher - this one for 1 appetizer and 2 entrees - led us back to Amrheins for a dinner in December. I've read of complaints by voucher users who felt that service was lacking or that they were otherwise treated differently from a business' full paying guests, but I had never felt that way... till this most recent visit to Amrhein's that is. I had come with a plan. A plan formulated by careful perusal of their online dinner menu just days prior our visit. We would first start with their Sacchetti appetizer which had so satisfied us last time, then split the PUMPKIN RISOTTO Twice baked sugar pumpkin filled with a chicken risotto with cashews, dried cranberries, caramelized onions and baby spinach and topped with cheddar cheese $23 with its impressive presentation and the THE JIMMY HAYES* 26oz OMAHA certified Cowboy steak bleu cheese crumbles Amrheins house steak sauce with duck fat fingerling potatoes and vegetable of the day $29, because it was a slab of cow on a plate. Turns out when fall exited, so did the pear tortellini and the pumpkin entree. No one thought to update the online menu however! It still reads the same even now in January, tempting me with those autumn flavors. We did get the steak though, but it was way too strong on the blue cheese, and not a tender cut of meat. Our other entree was the BRAISED BERKSHIRE PORK SHORT RIB 14 oz braised Berkshire pork short ribs, garlic whipped potato, roasted butternut squash, apple cider reduction $23. Pork rather dry, but so moist and tender between the bone and a nice layer of fat. The sides I attempted to change up a bit, but was met with limitations that I had not faced in previous visits. I really wanted their creamy risotto with cashews, dried cranberries, caramelized onions and baby spinach, but not enough to swap two sides for it. I was told that this was the option since we were redeeming a voucher deal. So, instead, I sadly went with the alternate: butternut squash, spinach, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries. While the entrée course was a bit disappointing, the starter we selected was a surprise winner. Highlighted at the top of the menu was a ROASTED BEET AND GOAT CHEESE SALAD, baby kale, roasted beets, shaved fennel, roasted apples, Bonne Bouche local Vermont goat cheese, candied, pecans, and orange fig vinaigrette, $14. It was a yummy and well portioned starter salad for two with an entire disk of cheese tucked beneath the greenery. Fortunately, dessert was a step back up in the right direction from the rather sad entrees. The NEW YORK CHEESECAKE Classic New York Cheesecake served with caramelized apples and caramel sauce $9 arrived as a nice slab of creamy cheesecake with a good amount of sliced fruit. Note: Online reservations are now available for parties of 6 or larger only. The bathroom was freezing!

Yelp
So yesterday was the only time I've ever been here and a group of 5 of us got breakfast. Overall the food was good and it came out very quickly and the space itself is very nice. The only issue was that it seemed severely understaffed with only three people working the floor during prime brunch hours. Took a long time for us to get seated and it seemed like our waitress consistently forgot about our table but she was really friendly and pleasant. We didn't get our silverware until after our food came out. Overall, good food but the staff was disorganized - could see myself going back but probably not.

Irene H.

Yelp
Ok food but the service was a little slow. The clam chowder was very disappointing, I was expecting much better from Boston. But the clam flavor was lost and the soup was not as creamy and thick as I usually associate with clam chowder. The shrimp scampi was decent, I think they need to load up more flavor in the sauce (gimme that butter and load up that garlic). I have been spoiled with previously much creamer shrimp scampi sauce. I stole fries from my friend's dish and that was done well - nice and crispy. There seems to be other decent reviews for this place, so maybe I didn't order the right thing, but if they can speed up the service (it was not that busy that night) I might be inclined to give this place another try...

Yelp
Welcome to the oldest bar in Southie, and one of the oldest in Boston! (Founded in 1890) I met a date here because I was driving from Kingston and I was worried about finding parking. Amrheins has its own parking lot! Score. The parking lot, btw, might be from 1890, so look out for potholes. My date was running late so I went in an ordered a drink. The waitress was "johhny-on-the-spot" with drinks all night. I swear that she delivered my Gin and tonic about a minute after I ordered it. She did this repeatedly. It was impressive. Unfortunately, I did not get her name. But she worked in bar area. For an appetizer, my date and I ordered the special pear appetizer with Feta cheese and prosciutto. It was OK, not great. It was only half a pear, so it was a little disappointing to split. After a few drinks and a nice conversation my date ended, but then a friend met up with me. What a night! For dinner, I ordered a Salmon burger. It was very tasty, though the fries that came with were a little cold. Kind of a bummer. My friend had the Boston creme pie because he already ate dinner. He loved his "pie or cake - whatever it is" LOL. He's not from around here. Fair enough. Overall, very good experience even though the food was not fantastic. But the service was great, nice atmosphere, and a convenient parking lot to boot. I would come back!

Yelp
Yearly my wife has come here for a birthday dinner with father for close to 10yrs. They come for the pumpkin risotto. I have only been here the past 4yrs and have yet to have a bad meal. Today we had the cilantro sriracha wings, 2 pumpkin risottos, cowboy burger and turkey risotto. To top it off we got 2 brownie sundaes. Our waitress Jamie was so down to earth every time she came around. One word for today, delicious.

Yelp
I went to this place recently for the first time because of its convenient location. That is honestly the best thing about it. The food was cold, the service was poor, and there are just so many better places to eat. This isn't one of those "scorched earth" 1 star reviews, just a "man this place will never be good" 1 star reviews.

Yelp
Amrheins s is a classic staple of South Boston but they remain consistent with the best food and drinks around. Loved our server, who was very attentive, and funny. Great salad with grilled salmon and delicious expresso martini. My husband ordered the steak tip dinner and raved about the perfect "medium" steak tips and mashed potatoes. Loved our comfort food dinner

Yelp
Amrheins great little irish pub on broadway street we came here after the St.Patricks  parade, they welcomed us in right away, we ordered beer, the chawder, and it was amazing! The chicken strips were great too, their menu was limited to cocktail drinks which was fine because of the parade, but amazing service, everyone was so nice even the locals dining there were awesome!!!  OH bathroom was clean, big plus there!!!

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and the food is always pretty the same. I hear the brunch is amazing on Sunday's so I will for sure have to come to that one day, but I've been for both lunch and dinner and haven't been disappointed yet! The warm rolls at the beginning served with melted butter really sets a nice mood for the start of the meal. Beware-the buffalo chicken dip (appetizer) is huge and should definitely be split among a group. It is served in a huge bowl, piled high with tortilla chips. The chicken caesar wrap is probably the only thing I've had here that I didn't enjoy. The burgers are delicious. Juicy, huge, large portion of fries. Pro tip- ask for extra chipotle mayo to dip everything in, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
If you are thirsty or hungry, don't waste a minute at Amrheins. My husband and I are in Boston for the weekend and after a four hour drive passed this "pub/restaurant" on our way in. Intrigued with its history, we stopped in for lunch. Despite a near empty bar and a handful of customers, we waited almost 20 minutes for menus from a waitress, who seemed unsure of what she is was even doing there. We sat in the bar area and the bartender refused to acknowledge us - wouldn't even look in our direction. Similar to their reviews, there seemed to be a handful of regulars at bar, who already had drinks. Yet, the bartender was more interested in chatting it up with them rather than serve new, unfamiliar customers. We ended up just leaving and walking a few feet up the road to enjoy lunch at another establishment. Again, don't bother with this place if you actually want to eat or drink. They apparently don't want customers.

Yelp
My friends and I went today for brunch. Overall the meal was just average. The food was okay, nothing too bad but nothing I would go back for. The waitress was also okay, however all the staff were sitting at the bar eating donuts (from somewhere else) and watching YouTube videos. The fact they weren't eating food from the restaurant should have been a red flag. Also it was almost completely empty. Service wasn't great and the food was the same. I wish it was better because I had heard good things about place previously.
