Amcafe as we have come to call it is a great place for the college community around it as well as the local neighborhood. It has a great selection and price during happy hours and provides a relaxed and friendly environment to blow off steam after a long work day. Their food selection is also great and pairs off well with the drink selection. I recommend their fries mostly because they make portions large enough for a group to share

I frequently visited Amsterdam Cafe as a graduate student right down the street at Columbia. The service is super fast, the prices are average from NYC $12-27/meal. They have a wide range of prices and food options. The nachos are the best I have ever had and their fried plantains and all of their salads are delicious as well! Definitely come for happy hour after class or dinner with a date! Fun fact: Daniel Radcliffe ate here when he was filming a movie on the Columbia Campus!

Went for lunch on a weekday. Food was mediocre, at best. Service was friendly but erratic. Ordered a bunch of appetizers- calamari, guacamole, hummus plate, zucchini fries- wouldn't really recommend any of them. Guacamole was decent, if you like it chunky. ordered the pollo al ajillo (garlic chicken) as an entree- flavoring was okay but too many, thickly-cut olives all over the plate; and not enough chicken or rice.

Went to this God-awful restaurant in earlier August to celebrate my mother’s 70th birthday. We had a party of about 20 and the service and food was God-awful. Our first clue should have been when the place was almost empty on a Saturday night. They tried to put our party in a dark, dingy basement. The tapa was classic bar/college food; they should have just called it “shitty food you eat when you are drunk.” I ordered a pasta meal, which looked like the chef regurgitated it onto the plate. I immediately sent it back because I could not imagine putting that garbage in my mouth. The manager, Rodrigo, was a complete jerk and would not remove the item from my bill. This place is definitely for the low budget crowd, who don’t care about good service and quality food.

Fun place to go on a Friday night. Has a DJ, variety of different items on the menu. Enjoyed the food as well as the drinks. Would recommend the sangria. Also, love that they have a coat and bag check as well!

I've been here once for dinner and once for drinks. The dinner I had wasn't too fantastic, but the drinks were great. They have a wonderful beer on tap here (Saratoga!) and a spacious bar area downstairs.

initially i liked how the bar looked on the inside. But my partner was asked to remove his hat while others were allowed to wear their hats. I was confused in that it was up too the bouncer as to who could wear a hat?!?! and not just a general rule. they will over charge when you leave your tab open... kinda shady practices. not going back.

On the pricier side but their happy hour is good. Crowd is okay. Service can be bad when they're busy but depends upon the waiter. Once they overcharged me by $10 and I haven't gotten the money back.
