"Adobo roasted pork and pineapple chunks make Amuleto’s al pastor a touch more sweet, but it’s all balanced by a vibrant tomatillo salsa. Amulteto’s tacos are substantial in size, so order accordingly. Amuleto is open for indoor dining (make reservations here), takeout, and delivery." - Samer Khudairi

Excellent Mexican restaurant on Moody Street in Waltham. We had a party for 8 for 5 PM. Our reservation was honored and the service was great. It was extremely clean and nice inside. Parking was pretty easy. Ample street parking there is a free lot around the corner. The drinks were very flavorful and pretty strong 😉. The food was excellent as well.

Just WOW! First time at Amuleto and had a fantastic dining experience with friends. Delicious food, friendly service staff (Ask for Jose, he’s the man!) and awesome ambiance. We sat outdoors on a beautiful night with great music and scenery. My favorite dishes were Pulpo Asado (grilled octopus), Costillitas (baby back ribs) and the Birria Quesataco. Oh, and you have to try the baked dessert with ice cream on top… out of this world. (Dulche De Leche!) Easily one of my favorite Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been too. 10/10 recommend.

We loved the tortilla soup and both shrimp dishes. Amazing sauces!

Google
Assumed it was a higher end restaurant based on the pictures and reviews, but ended up being pretty average - which was unfortunately. Great location by the corner of Moody street with wonderful staff that make you feel comfortably at home. The main dishes were good, but could have been elevated further with some additional seasoning. Possibly try something out of their wheelhouse to rejuvenate their menu a bit and make them stand out. The chips for the appetizer were too hard, and uncomfortable to eat. But the flavors in the salsa and guac were definitely there! Overall, a good experience.

Tonight was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. We started with the three mini tamales plate. The mole sauce on the chicken tamale was outstanding and even better was the tomatillo sauce on the pork tamale. We also had the brussels sprouts with pork belly and the fried plantains. We enjoyed them both. Last we got two tacos to share. You should always be able to order a single taco. The first was the pork which was generously filled. The second was something I had never seen before. They took a jalapeño and stuffed it with shrimp. It was wild, but so so good. I highly recommend getting that. Maybe get three. The service was friendly and the space is nice. It is a small dining room but they do take reservations and you can eat outside in nice weather (it was raining today). Bottom line: we’ll worth a visit.

Amazing drinks and food in a great environment. Staff and manager went above and beyond. Guacamole with pork chicharton, Sonora ribs, grilled octopus, Carne asada plate. Spicy cucumber Margarita, Mezcalocos ohhh my god just AMAZING. thank you 🙏

Google
I had high hopes based on some of the reviews however i agree the food was pretty average. The food looked amazing but could have used more seasoning. Service and atmosphere was nice. Also the tacos felt smaller than expected.

Everything was outstanding, from the minute we were seated. Carlos was our attentive but non- intrusive server who was both personable and professional, a delight to interact with. Also a really sweet young woman assisting, didn't get her name. House margaritas were exceptionally good, roasted chicken mole was out of this world, carne asada was a very cleanly trimmed whole strip center cut cooked perfectly medium rare with an addictive avocado sauce and accompanying chicken enchilada mole poblano. Apps of baby back ribs and octopus were really spectacular. We were very impressed with the unusual takes on dishes we have tried at many different Mexican eateries. Amuleto is a must is you're dining in Waltham.

Yelp
Starter: chips with guac Meal: Camarones Enchipotlados Didn't get to eat in person but our meals both great. Highly recommend my entree, very different and would get again forsure. P

Yelp
My recent experience with Amuleto was deeply disappointing. I ordered the Veracruz fish dish for takeout, and despite the dish being priced reasonably, the portion was a mere 3 oz. Feeling dissatisfied, I returned to the restaurant to address the issue. Unfortunately, instead of receiving understanding or assistance, the manager reprimanded us, accusing us of having eaten the rest of the food, even though it was untouched. His behavior was extremely rude and disrespectful. No one deserves to be treated so poorly for providing feedback about portion size. This was my second order from Amuleto, and both times the portions did not match the pricing. As a Latino, I couldn't help but feel discriminated against due to the color of my skin. Such treatment is unacceptable and disheartening. I hope Amuleto takes this feedback seriously and makes necessary changes to their service and portion sizes. It's a shame to see such potential marred by poor customer service and discriminatory behavior.

Yelp
Been 3X. Always remarkable, service, beverages and food are all outstanding. Ask for the special salsa/sauces there are a trio all tasty and each one hotter than the next. Did we mention they are a gluten free kitchen!

Alan C.

Yelp
Food was very good & tasty! We had octopus which had a slight kick to it and guacamole and chips! Enough for four! Street corn was well seasoned, we all tacos which had a bit of spice but not too much! Service was excellent food came out quick! The place was well decorated with Mexican art work z! Overall we would come back again! This was my first time eating Mexican food. Very enjoyable!

Yelp
Looking for delicious, authentic Mexican food in a pleasant environment? This is your place, located at the top of Moody Street in Waltham. Parking is a little tricky but there are several municipal lots within a couple of blocks. I went with two friends, one of whom uses a cane, so I was worried about mobility around what looked to be a small space from the online pictures, but it is not so small and at 12:30 on a January Saturday we were some of the first to arrive (although the place was bustling at 2:30 when we left). Okay, enough with the logistics, let's talk about the FOOD. Outstanding. Two of us had the tasty original margaritas with plenty of salt (sorry, blood pressure). One diner started with the sopa de tortilla, followed with the enchiladas which looked fantastic. My other companion and I had the lunch special of quesadillas with chicken, which were outstanding. All the meals came with a choice of Mexican or lime rice, and black or refried beans. I had the Mexican rice and black beans which were plentiful if a little bland--needed a little salt or spice or something. Oh, and did I mention the homemade guacamole and salsa served with chips? We had to shut ourselves off at one point for fear of not having enough room for the meal itself. And if all of that wasn't enough, were we able to resist the offer of flan for dessert? That would be "no." Delicious. All in all we very pleased with our first visit to this entry into the storied Moody Street restaurant scene. It will not be our last!

Yelp
I live nearby but finally came for my birthday dinner recently and had a great time, deciding to order a number of dishes I've never had before. The pork belly guacamole was excellent as an appetizer, and the tacos too. I should mention that the barbacoa was pretty spicy, which isn't always the case in my other experiences. Chicken tinga taco was really nice also, with a big slice of avocado in there. We got these as part of a taco combo order which is definitely worth it. I also had to separately get the carne asada taco (which includes avocado mousse on it, red morita sauce, and golden brown cheese) which was probably my favorite, the meat having a really nice sear/roast to it. I had the house margarita which was also very good. The service was great. Highly recommended, especially in a group!

Yelp
Love this place! So good for gluten free and food is amazing and staff kind! Love coming here

Fraline F.

Yelp
We returned here today, its been over a year, I won't let that happen again. They have such wonderful Mexican cuisine. We started again with the Elote De La Calle (grilled corn), with cotija cheese. Wait till you try it! It is sooo good. Then came the Costillitas , they are out of this world. I had the Quesidillas with Chicken and poblano peppers and corn. They were so good. My husband had the Taco plate with grilled steak and he loved it. Our server was Gerson, he was wonderful and helpful. Thank-you Gerson! We can't wait to come back!!!!

Graham P.

Yelp
This place was fantastic. Brought my mother and wife on a Monday night and had great service, delicious margs and some of the best upscale Mexican food I have had since moving back from Los Angeles! Definitely a worthwhile visit

Gabby B.

Yelp
Tacos! Tacos! Tacos! My friend recommended this place for its delicious food and he was right! I have been wanting to try this place ever since my friend mentioned it and we finally had dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a great bar and decor. We sat inside but they have plenty of outdoor patio seating. We started with drinks and they had a few margaritas to choose from. I finally decided on their spicy jalapeno margarita and to my surprise it was nice and spicy and very good. We decided to share a couple of appetizers and got the Mexican street corn or elote and the octopus. For my main dish I decided on a cochinito pibil taco (Mexican pulled pork taco) and an Al pastor taco. The elote and octopus were very good but the star of the show was the cochinito taco! It's flavor was on point that it literally transported me back to California, my hometown! I was very pleased with the taco! It really hit the spot. I will definitely be back for more delicious margaritas and tacos!

Josh W.

Yelp
6 tacos, fried plantains, and a pina colada will always make me happy! They were all extremely flavorful and unique! (Not pictured are the homemade chips and salsa that were gone before the camera could be taken out) this spot is in a great area to walk around in and is definitely worth a try!

Richard W.

Yelp
Went here for a business dinner on a recent weeknight. Street parking was not gonna happen, had to find a spot on an iffy side street 5 blocks away. It was somewhat busy but not insanely so. I got a classic Cadillac margarita, which was pretty good. A few apps came out, they were tasty. After 45 minutes of waiting for the main orders, I decided to cut my losses and head out, I had a long drive home, so I can't comment on the entree. Atmosphere is nice. The Waltham restaurant scene is really nice, very diverse.

Catherine W.

Yelp
Had a very enjoyable dinner on their back patio. It was lit up and had a great summertime casual ambiance. Waitress was very friendly. All of us in the party had tacos - I had the pulpo, al pastor, and cochinitas (roasted pork). All very good but I liked the pulpo one the best but probably because it included pork belly inside too! Delicious and authentic. We also liked the guacamole a lot. I also enjoyed the blueberry mint lemonade. One of my friends ordered the ceviche - note it is a Mexican take on ceviche and so a little different than anyone who is more accustomed to Peruvian style. I had called in advance and learned that there are only 2 spots for their restaurant in their back parking lot (which otherwise seems spacious). So the best place to park is in the Chestnut St lot which was free after 6pm on the weekday I visited. Would definitely come again!

Chris W.

Yelp
Have been coming here for years. The food is always excellent and it seems like there is always something new to try. The outdoor dining is a lovely experience especially when the music is playing. The service is great and the wait staff is always pleasant.

Wern O.

Yelp
TLDR: more upscale Mexican in a cool interior Loved the big circular velvet booths and glitzy seats. Food was excellent as well. I really enjoyed my mezcal flight and getting grasshoppers as a palette cleanser was a first. Would definitely recommend this place!

Christine C.

Yelp
Chicken tinga enchiladas? Let's goooooo! The food was delicious and not over salty. We also had the guacamole which was good, as was the salsa. My friend got the shrimp enchiladas and enjoyed that as well. The service was not great. She was nice, but she got the order wrong and never checked in on us. She will be great once she has a little more confidence so keep training and supporting her. I'm not sure about the interior as we ate outside on a nice summers day.

Inci K.

Yelp
Festive and yet cozy Mexican restaurant with an upbeat vibe. I enjoy going over for a girls night out. If you go - try the ceviches! I love them.

Jojo B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. No complaints. 10/10. My mango mojito was delicious answer strong. 10/10 The wait and customer service left much to be desired unfortunately 3/10.

Emma T.

Yelp
Nice ambience. The salsa was good and the corn chips were ok. The corn chips were pretty thick corn chips. The patio had heated lights and a tent. A bit pricier than other Mexican places in the area and similar taste. I think the price is higher for location. The margaritas were so good!!

Ani G.

Yelp
Great tacos and drinks. Good prices. Would recommend for local lowkey Mexican food. Everything was fresh as well.

Laura L.

Yelp
Food was alright. Walked in and received salsa and guacamole with chips then the waiter came asking if we ordered the guacamole and we said no. Not knowing they served the wrong table. How's that our fault? Portions are small and not what I expect from a Mexican restaurant. A friend ordered the vegetarian enchilada and it tasted like frozen mixed vegetables straight from the bag with no seasoning or anything to give it some sort of flavor. Dessert was alright we got the flan and tres leches. Flan was better. Received the bill and was charged for the guacamole, even though we didn't order it and it was their accident by giving it to us. What a shame. We will not be returning and I do not recommend this place unfortunately

Jerry C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place! The food was delicious, server was polite and knowledgeable, and a very comfortable atmosphere. We will definitely go there again

Hayden C.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, and every time get exceptional service in addition to awesome food. Have tried just about every taco on the menu and they're all great

Michelle C.

Yelp
*Contactless pickup review* I've missed Amuleto and so happy they are open. I've been eyeing their menu for a while and just started to order takeout again. They have an amazing deal for their family dinners. We picked the Taco Family dinner for $49. Incredible bargain! - 10 tacos (many choices and up-charge for some) - huge amount of rice (mexican or lime). I love their mexican - huge amount of Black beans (my fav) or refried - lots of guac, chips & salsa It was soo soo good and hot and fresh. So much food we had leftovers! I really hope they keep this option for pickup post-covid. My next choice is going to be the enchiladas family dinner. They have the best enchiladas! Contactless pickup was easy! 1. Place your order and make sure to say it's contactless. 2. Payment over the phone. 3. Pickup food. There is a parking spot in back of their restaurant. 4. Call restaurant when you arrive. 5. They bring out the food. 6. Tip! 7. Go home and pig out Moody street has been closed off to provide outdoor seating, such a great idea. They have some great family dinner specials that are soo worth it. Delivery (use link on their page): EZ, door dash, grub hub Contactless pickup:

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try this place. It's more upscale Mexican. There are many seafood options. But you will also find quite a nice selection of tacos. In terms of tacos, they did range from about $5 to $6, so it's easy to run up a decent sized bill, in relative comparison to most Mexican places. If you're a moderate eater, 3 tacos might be fine. I found that big eaters might need 5. Chips with salsa and guacamole were a good starter. I'd probably give that 3 stars. Tacos were really good. Fresh Sangria. A good selection of Mexican draft beer on tap. Service was outstanding. 4 stars for food. 5 for Sangria and drinks. And 6 for service.

Elisa W.

Yelp
The waiter refused to split up our check when we asked for separate checks. The waiter appeared visibly annoyed. He assertively said he will only divide the check 4 ways. How is that fair to the other guests at the table to pay more? I want to pay for what I ordered. I would not recommend.

Yelp
Waltham...yeah, yeah, yeah. the bride had a jones for tacos which sent me to yelp which offered 8 -10 places and their reviews. Amuleto (Charm) popped up as most promising...a couple miles from us. Upon arriving at 6:11 on a weeknight we reviewed the menu saw the promise of Mexico...yeah, yeah, yeah. Upon entering one table of four was seated everything else empty...Did we have a reservation ... weeknight, right? While thinking should we stay or go...the hostess came by and swept us to a 4 top. This was promising as the show began ... wait staff attentive, well trained ... water and then drinks with housemade chips and adobo sauce. Ordered sampling of tamales, fish tacos and a Carne Asada plate - large steak with beans and rice, guac and burrito. Clearly, taking some of this home. House margarita and a sparkling cucumber lemonade to add to the party. Not felipe's by any shade of the word. Service smooth and silent...no 'how we doin here' ... Plates arrived excellent presentation albeit not so large a steak-but, perfectly prepared accompanied by two grilled sereno chilies - nice touch & great heat. Everything delicious, fresh ingredients, well trained staff! What a fine tuned restaurant does well. Thanks for the carimba, we'll be back with friends for another show.

Christopher F.

Yelp
Food is a 5 out of 5 every time we come. Consistently good Mexican food that does not disappoint

Yara F.

Yelp
Came here after my parents said it was great and was unfortunately very disappointed. Service was so awkwardly bad. The waiter didn't look at us or make eye contact or move his face when talking and just stared at his pad looking bored and just gave off the vibe that he didn't like us for some reason. I don't expect waiters to be super chipper but it was truly awkward. Drinks tasted like syrup that wasn't fully incorporated into the slush. Food was under seasoned and some of the portions were odd. Overall I don't know if I just had a uniquely horrible experience, but the service was just so unfriendly and the food was so mediocre that I unfortunately don't think I'll be back.

Megan M.

Yelp
Great food, great service :) In town for business, was sent to Moody St and saw this place first. Asked bar tender what his favorite tacos were that weren't shrimp and was recommended the carnitas, grilled fish and steak. Didn't disappoint. They were nice in size and I enjoyed my jalapeño margarita. Asked if I wanted hot sauce and brought out a trio, they were spicy and tasty. Happy and full customer here.

Scarlet Á.

Yelp
The food was really good! The staff offered an outstanding service. It is pet friendly on the outside, and they were very nice, got us water for our dog. She enjoyed it as well'

sarah h.

Yelp
Went on a rainy day and sat outside, didn't get wet at all under the tent. The food was great (fewer options but I was okay with that). Server was very nice.

Arline C.

Yelp
I love this place! My second time visiting and it was as great as the first time, definitely coming back. Great service; cauliflower ceviche, enchiladas and tacos highly recommendable . Ask for the margarita mezcal flights , you won't regret!

Chris P.

Yelp
Catching up on posting some reviews - this one is from mid-July: I was visiting my son and while there we enjoy dining out at many of the Moody Street restaurants. This was our first visit to Amuleto and it won't be our last. Fish tacos, carne asada, and beers made the dinner complete. Service wasn't exactly top notch but it was adequate (middle of the week and not too crowded, but I know that many restaurants are short staffed, so that may have contributed).

John C.

Yelp
Great service, great setting, nice and quiet inside, and enchiladas, red and green, are to die for. I need to try the Quesotaco when I come back. I could die for some Birrira and Queso right now.

Mary P.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner, but don't avert your gaze, even for a second. I said I was done with the Elotes and they swept everything, even the chips and guacamole, off the table before I could even speak. I'd just ordered another margarita so I just wept into my drink

Brian M.

Yelp
Great place to eat and relax. The street tacos were fabulous and I sampled 3 different ones. The fresh corn tortillas made the meal a complete success. Only drawback was the margarita...I ordered one with a better tequila but the mix used was less than optimal and resulted in a bland drink. The food and chips again were great and I would return again.

Marina O.

Yelp
The food is great. If you are looking for a Mexican place, this place is great! They have tables inside and outside. We went there on Friday with a group of friends for a dinner. My boyfriend and I had two Quesadillas (with chicken and another one with beef), and two De Pescado tacos, and two Pulpo Asado tacos. Everything was great but our server forgot about our friends' food. As well as, when she brought my Sangria when she put it on the table, it splashed on me. She did not clean the table, she just said "sorry." It is not right. The place is great, we have been there several times and we never had any issues. The only issue was that our server forgot about the food and did not clean the table.

Mercedes C.

Yelp
Amazing margaritas, guacamole con chicharron and ceviche! The tacos are also very good! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and staff is very friendly

Shawn A.

Yelp
Excellent experience overall. The Carne Asada was well done and unique in that I got to taste the nice steak filet plus a small chicken tortilla, rice, fried beans, and guacamole. The service provided by Nallely was fabulous and my Classic Cadillac Margarita was made tasty & strong (a little pricey too!). The seating is very nice and comfortable. I went for the Mexican Flan to top it off and it didn't disappoint. Great place in Waltham and you should definitely give it go if you like Mexican food. The restaurant also served complimentary pickled vegetables with their special house sauces/salsa.

Karsten G.

Yelp
For our first date night of the year, we settled on this spot. The night already started off great when we found street parking right in front of the entrance . The atmosphere inside was chill. The tables allowed for adequate social distancing (they also had plastic barriers for some) and the staff wore facemasks and gloves. The staff was friendly and engaging.. We started the night off with Cadillac and Frozen mango margaritas. Chips and salsa are complimentary. The salsa had a nice smoky flavor to it. We added guacamole and elotes for appetizers. For our entrees we had cauliflower tacos and Pollo en mole poblano. We were very pleased with both and will be returning

Victoria C.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from Amuleto on a Saturday night. We got the Arugula - Goat Cheese Salad, 4 tacos (Baja Fish Taco, Octopus Taco, Barbacoa Taco,  & Al Pastor Taco), and Guacamole Chicharron. The arugula salad already came with dressing in it, which made the salad a little sad and wilted but nevertheless tasted alright. It also came with extra dressing, which was super peppery and spicy, so I opted to not use it on the salad. The housemade guac was delicious, but the salsa seemed more of a watery tomato sauce more than anything. The octopus taco did not come with any octopus, very disappointing, you might as well just call it a pork taco. Although the added cheese layer with the wrap added some extra texture and flavor to the taco. The Baja fish taco tasted like tempura fish, which is pretty cool. Overall, not too bad, but probably wouldn't order from again.

Dora C.

Yelp
Great tacos and flavors. Reasonable prices--except for the $11 guacamole which costed more than the two tacos. I ordered the fish tacos, which were pretty but were a little bland. Everything else was delicious!

Sara B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have gotten takeout from here twice since covid started, unfortunately haven't gotten there in person. Despite this, I was pretty hesitant to do takeout tacos but it's right around the corner so easy pick up and everything was DELICIOUS!!! We tried a bunch of different types of tacos the first time so can vouch for basically all of them. The second time around I went with sopa de tortilla and camarones al tomatillo which were also deliciousss particularly the soup. I can't wait to go back!! Also made a takeout margarita bag into a juice box -- good choice. Definitely check it out!

Gary W.

Yelp
This was my 2nd time in a year I visited this authentic little jewel of a Mexican restaurant. Was in town for my semi annual mens fashion tradeshow & decided to have an important business dinner here. As such Amuleto did not disappoint and exceeded expectations. My dinner colleague (whose wife is a Peruvian chef) was also very happy with the drinks, food & service. The table setters for our dining experience the chips/salsa & margaritas were on point & good harbingers of things to come. We took the "tapas approach" & dispatched a small fleet of tasty appetizers including ceviche, the tamales trio, taquitos, tacos pastor, etc The thing about Amuleto I especially appreciated is while they take themselves quite seriously the place has a cool unpretentious, laid back vibe. I am sure to return to this happy place the next time I'm in town & highly recommend Amuleto to those who appreciate great Mexican food beyond the norm.

Cody S.

Yelp
Great experience! Each table is given a bottle of hand sanitizer to use throughout the meal and service was very quick and friendly. The classic guacamole was delicious with their homemade tortilla chips and salsa. The enchiladas were fantastic, especially the vegetable with mole. A bit pricey but my whole group thought it was worth it! Would definitely return!

Kevin W.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite restaurants. Their spicy margarita is so good. Wonderful menu. So much more than what you typically get at a typical "mexican restaurant" if you're willing to branch out. Great service. Lots of long time employees. Great bar service and sit down dining. Get the Haddock if it's on the specials menu.

Michele S.

Yelp
This little gem adds to the diverse offerings along Waltham's Moody Street. It was fun this summer to sit outside since this culinary Main Street is still enjoying the outdoor dining/car-free atmosphere enabled by the city as a pandemic response. Small plates are exquisite and pescatarians like me have lots of options. Terrific margaritas along without smart and kind servers make this a place to put on your regular dining-out roster.
