2019/2020 Poli here. If anyone has the chance to visit the South Pole, do it! It’s a once a lifetime experience and you won’t ever experience anything else like this ever again. Enjoyed my time a lot! 8/10 because no aliens in the tunnels underneath the station

Alltrails said it was only a 6 mile hike from McMurdo. I was a little hesitant at first because we were looking for something more than just a day hike, but I figured the views would be worth it. It ended up being around 850 miles according to my apple watch. It was a little chilly when we went in July (around -70°F) but nothing crazy. Not a lot of amenities on the trail so I'd definitely recommend packing some extra food and water. As I had only prepared for a day hike I did end up having to cannibalize my buddy Mark (sorry Mark). Around day 30 you'll likely start hallucinating, but that honestly just means you're getting pretty close. From there, just keep heading south and you've made it! Overall, it was a neat hike. Not a lot of elevation change so I'd rate it medium difficulty. I'll probably do it again next time I'm at McMurdo station!

I love coming here. Still too cold for me. Penguins are friendly. Don’t lick any of the poles outside, they hurt. 10/10 would come again

Beautiful views off the edge of the earth, absolutely indescribable. Guided tours only, careful not to slip off.

Shower got no warm water and the food they serve a bit cold as well. The room they gave us was very dark. Been there 5 weeks (may-june) and sun light never came in. There are other options for getting tanned.

Free food, drinks and polar pools. There is a nice lounging area at the end of the structure where you can enjoy good sun during summer times, though not a lot companions beyond penguins. Internet cost you $80 a day and is a bit sporadic but I have no complain given how far the signal has to travel. Will definitely visit again sometime.

Actually the best place I ever been to! Also this is a true thing, my father is a researcher and one day he got a task at this antarctic station and I got to go with him because nobody could take care of me at my homeland Sweden. The researchers working there was actually really nice to me. Me and my dad stayed there for two and a half weeks, when we then could finally return home. Even though the weather conditions was really harsh, I had a really nice time inside of the protected houses. I remember one time we played Monopoly and it was soooo fun! I did not win but this is what I call an adventure. Thanks dad.
