Montreal’s Most Anticipated New Restaurant Openings, Fall 2022 | Eater Montreal

"Michelle Vo has teamed with Otto Baralum Vien Man Cao Tran and Douglas Tan on a day-to-night spot that marries greenery and concrete in its design and will serve sharing plates inspired by Vietnamese cuisine, including bánh bèo (steamed rice cakes), bò kho short ribs, and bone marrow and whelks with nước mắm (ginger sauce)." - Valerie Silva

A Buzzy New Vietnamese Restaurant Is Headed to Plaza St-Hubert | Eater Montreal

"Set to open in spring 2022 at 6553 Rue St-Hubert, this day-to-night Vietnamese haunt from Michelle Vo evolves her online Pasthyme into a narrow, elongated 1,300-square-foot restaurant where she imagines waved wooden ceiling panels, an imposing concrete bar and plenty of greenery for a look that sits between industrial chic and warm organic. The name roughly translates to “eat and have fun” (and cheekily echoes the French word for anchovy, a nod to fermented Vietnamese fish sauces) and doubles as an homage to the mother who taught Vo to cook and helped make the project possible. Lunch service will focus on deeply flavoured, often fiery bowls of noodle soups and Vietnamese coffee made with beans Vo plans to source from growers in Vietnam; evenings will shift to dim lighting, louder music and intricate spreads meant for sharing — menu items will depend on season and local produce but may include bánh bèo and bánh bột lọc — alongside natural wines and cocktails (soup will still be available for anyone who missed it at lunch). Vo plans to be front-of-house while a business partner runs the kitchen, and many loyal Pasthyme customers have already offered to help with the new venture." - Valerie Silva

A must for any foodie in Montreal! This spot blew me away — easily the best Vietnamese food I’ve had in the city. Every bite was a flavour bomb: umami, cilantro, fish sauce, lime, sweet, sour, crispy, spicy, soft… it had it all 🤯🌶️ We were lucky to have Mélanie as our server — so bubbly, passionate, and genuinely into the food. We clicked with her right away. That kind of service? Super rare these days. 💫 And the vibe? Hearing Michelle, the owner, chatting in Vietnamese with regulars made the whole place feel like a warm, nostalgic hug — like a piece of home served on a plate. Now let’s talk about those chicken wings… still piping hot when they hit the table 🔥🍗 Like, when does that even happen?! Not even in my own kitchen. Bottom line: if you haven’t tried this gem yet, you’re seriously missing out. Go hungry and thank me later.

Went to this spot for my best friend’s birthday and was welcomed with such enthusiasm from the staff who was so friendly and accommodating to our celebration. We got the sampler menu and was not disappointed as we got to try so many wonderful items from the menu. Easy standouts were the Eggplant and the Chicken Wings. Cocktail selection is also incredible with some great and unique options that blend classics with Vietnamese twists and flavours. We’ve been back since and were met with the same quality in food, drinks and service! Highly recommended spot for a night out with friends and family👍🏼

An Choi Plaza is a delightful original tasting experience of dishes not commonly found in other Viet restaurants, even in the "non-pho" ones and it is refreshing to enjoy new ways to consume such culture made by people that care to push the envelope. The quality of the plates draw hints of Viet fusion similar to how Pichai twists Thai plates into new ideas (or Satay Bros for southeast/Chinese stuff). You may recognize key ingredients that follow Viet culture but presented to you in innovatively new ways that delight and surprise. As such, it would have been helpful to have some kind of artist statement/intention described with more pride behind some of the food we enjoy. Despite that, service was attentive, quick and helpful to keep us ready to consume the next creation. Aside from that, the alcohol card is quite refined, you'll find something to elevate your taste buds in pairing with the food. The vibe of the spot is great as well. Good music, pretty lighting with genderless bathrooms and shared handwashing area. I'd recommend the spot for people who would enjoy a fresh tasting take on Viet cuisine. Don't expect to come out stuffed but satisfied of the taste journey.

A wonderful place to eat Vietnamese dishes and to drink! 🍽️You won’t find your typical banh mi or pho noodles but rather Bao buns and soft shell crab fried rice. They love experiencing with new items so you always find different dishes on the menu. I highly recommend (everything, but especially these) : 🦞 Ginger & Green onion Lobster ☁️ Char Siu (pork) Bao Bun 🦀 Fried rice crab 🍗 Fried Chicken I recommend An Choi if you are looking for a chic and welcoming spot to eat on a date or with friends. The dishes are perfect to share. The service was super welcoming and friendly. Thank you for having us ❤️

Food was great but overall experience was not as good as expected. When we came, we think that the staff was short-handed so our order came very late. On top of that our order got mixed-up. Some tables who come and order after us got their meals before us. Nothing can be done with short staff but my suggestion is to let the customers know about it and tell the customers when a mistake was made. I will come back for the food and revise my review. I still want to focus on the great food.

Beautiful and cozy vietnamese buvette on the plaza. They always have a great selection of wine, which I love. It can get a little hot inside sometimes, but that’s just one more reason to have one of their good cocktails. I absolutely fell in love with their king oyster mushroom appetizer which is fully vegetarian. DELICIOUS. They have a cute little menu that can cater to everyone!
