I went with my friend a couple days before Christmas on a Monday evening and there was nobody else there, so my expectations were immediately set to “low.” So glad we were pleasantly surprised! We shared the oxtail pho (number 1 on the menu) and the bánh nậm and both were amazing! Even for our spoiled Vietnamese tastes, the flavors and textures were so good. The oxtail was the most tender I have ever had, the broth was clear but deeply flavorful and the noodled were cooked just right. I only wish they had waited just a minute for us to finish the bánh nậm before serving the phở because I like mine to be piping hot. The drinks were also surprisingly outstanding, even though I have had many salted plum sodas before. My friend had a cocktail, which was strong enough and pretty too. More patrons arrived later. Service was alright, as expected for a place like this. Would come back again and again for the phở.

Google
Great selection of food. We ordered the pork belly clay pot, and it was flavorful!! Wish it was a little less salty and included more veggies, but tasty nonetheless. Portion sizes were good. The seating situation is a bit tight. I went with a friend, and we were sitting next to people whose conversation we could easily hear…

Google
By far the BEST Vietnamese restaurant I've been to!! Omg their Pho 🍜 is so unique in that the noodles are thick and the broth was so rich in flavor. 11/10 💯. The Wonton Noodle Soup w the pork wontons 🍜🥟 were SO GOOD!! I think this is the best wonton noodle soup I've ever had. The egg noodles were perfect and the broth was so flavorful. The wontons were so juicy. 11/10 💯. The shrimp spring rolls 🦐 were great starters although nothing special. I would definitely come back here to try their claypot dishes (it looked really good) 🍲.

A hidden gem in Somerville, MA (Boston suburb next to Medley & Revere by Logan Airport, close to Encore Casino). Great service and Vietnamese food is authentic. Go check it out! Oh, they do serve alcohol beverages, too👍

Google
Staff were friendly. Food I think was pricer than expected but still overall good flavors. I think that is just the nature of food places in the assembly area to keep up with the ( I'm assuming) high rents. If someone didn't wnat to venture out to dorchester to get vietnamese food, I'd recommend coming here.

Google
The food here was phenomenal. I recommend the bbq bao and banh khot. Service is a little slow, they should have more staffing for such a busy place.

Google
Service (George) and food were outstanding. vegetables were fresh. GREAT selection of flavor blends and types of dishes. atmosphere a little cold and not too conducive to private conversation when full. some acoustic treatment would help the boominess Thai tea was quite good. I will return for the excellent food and service!!!

Google
It has a very relaxed and modern atmosphere. I can imagine myself having a long meal here. However service was quite slow, it took around 10 minutes to get us menus. I also got the feeling the staff did not want to help us. They did not provide the spoon need to eat the rice with their catfish play pot. Others have mentioned the pho. The wide noodles are a bold approach, but make it harder to grab with chopsticks.

Yelp
Was in the area shopping for winter wears and saw this place. Restaurant is very nice looking inside. That caught our attention so we decided to stop in for dinner. The staffs were very friendly. We ordered the followings: - Pho Bowl (Portion was good. Broth very tasty, meat was good) - Bánh Khọt (We loved this appetizer. Crunchy, the shrimp was fresh. This goes well with the dipping sauce) - Grilled Chicken Rice Plate (Chicken was soft and flavorful) - Grilled Beef Fine Vermicelli (Beef was tasty and tender. Goes perfectly with the Fine Vermicelli) We had a great dining experience. Food was good, ambience was nice. Glad we stopped by. Recommend it if you are in the area.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 3.5 I would because the food is actually good. I walk past this place a lot and so decided to give it a try on a random weekend for lunch. Theres ample seating and it seems like always at least 1 big group at this restaurant. We ordered pho and were happy with the portion sizes and the quality of the meal as it was flavorful without feeling too heavy for a lunch meal. The only downside and reason for a lower rating was the service. While everyone was friendly, service was exceptionally slow, often with waters casually chatting with one another. It took a long time to get the attention of our waiter and once the food was delivered he never came back so we were unable to order more items. It took flagging down a waiter talking to a colleague to finally get our check, and a quick lunch turned into a much longer meal because of it. While the food wasn't bad, the service will likely keep me from coming back.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place, and it was nice, the service was GREAT... I just wasnt overwhelmed with the foods... Also, I went over a week ago and the tip (on my card) still hasnt charged me and the name that my bank charged against wasnt the name of the location - sketchy to me, but Im all over it! The rolls were bland, I need mint, Basil, Something... It was just meh! The pho was great, my gf stated the portion was small, The wok beef, OMFG it was GOOD, the veggies and flavor was what saved this place. Everything else was just ok. The Vermicelli bowl was good but the noodles were too cooked and super mushy!!! The vibe is cute, and the prices werent bad, just wasnt wow'd!

Yelp
Really like the ambiance of this place. The interior is very inviting and clean. Staff was attentive. The food is really good and really fresh. The grilled beef was awesome. It may be my favorite dish here. You can't go wrong if you want to eat some food that doesn't sit heavy, especially on a hot day. The flavors are wonderful. The drinks are very refreshing as well. I will return to this place.

Yelp
Cute Vietnamese place in Assembly Square, definitely more polished and modern than what I'm used to. That's reflected in the prices and menu too. My usual pho dac biet was not on the menu, nor was bun bo hue; instead it seemed like they only included dishes that would be more widely "palatable" to the general public. The cheapest pho bowl was also 18 or 19 bucks which is pretty steep. We got spring rolls, chicken skewers, and pho -- specifically I got pho tai. Spring rolls and the skewers were great, no complaints. They were presented very prettily and tasted fresh and flavorful. The beef in my pho was excellent, super tender and fresh. I got the fresh rice noodles which were a 1 dollar surcharge, and they were nice but perhaps toooo soft? I think I would have preferred regular noodles, but that's not the fault of An Nam. The pho broth itself was a little off for me. There was a distinct strong savory aroma that overpowered the flavors of the spices which made me think they added a ton of MSG. Now I am actually a fan of MSG but it was too much in this case. I didn't feel the need to add any hoisin sauce or Sriracha though, so that's a plus. Overall it wasn't a bad experience and I think An Nam would scratch the pho itch if you lived nearby, but I would still prefer the pho places in Dorchester. I would say the pho was 3.5/5, apps were 5/5, so overall I'd give it a 4 ish.

Yelp
Delicious find at Assembly Row! A welcome addition to the fairly culinarily narrow Assembly, and a good one at that. The interior is spacious, high ceilings and fashionable decor. The food is tasty (especially the vermicelli bowls and pho, the broth is so delicious and fresh), and price? Honestly totally fair for the location and quality of food. Waiters were attentive, I think my husband and I have found our go to Vietnamese restaurant in the Somerville area!

Yelp
Lunch was fantastic. Everyone in our party enjoyed their lunch entree. While some got pho or grilled shrimp, I got the clay pot salmon. The salmon was delectably cooked, very tender. The sauce in the dish was very umami flavored and went well with the side of steamed broken rice. Even though I finished 70% of my meal, I wanted the leftovers because it was too good to go to waste! The ambarella juice was a great accompaniment. It has a sweet, sour, tangy taste. I have never tasted the raw fruit but the juice got me curious. Ambiance was bright and airy and service was attentive and quick. In fact, it came as a surprise when the staff offered to box my leftovers as I was asking them for a to-go container. They did forget to include my rice but when I went back to ask, they quickly found it. Overall, I'll say even though I only tried one dish here it was so good that I'd like to be back to eat just that again!

Yelp
My new favorite Vietnamese restaurant! A Nam is a must try and adds diversity and touch of flavor to the Assembly Row area. They serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine and is in a great location. There is plenty of parking in the garage or lot close by and central to several shops. The restaurant is extremely clean and has a modern, fresh, bright and airy vibe to it. Perfect spot for a bite to eat with friends or a date night. Service is always quick and friendly. I got the Beef Pho and it came out hot and fresh. You get a side of bean sprouts and lime along with condiments on the side to spice up the soup. I also got the egg-rolls and it was crispy and tasty. The sugar cane juice is my go to drink. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Second time here and it was just as delicious! They have a moderate amount of seating and we were seated immediately, which was perfect for a quick lunch. The service was a little slower but the staff were very friendly and thoughtful. We ordered a variety of dishes, but I think I enjoyed their skewer platter the most! This platter consisted of various meats soaked in a yummy marinade and grilled to perfection. The meat was chewy, sweet, and super tasty. I also enjoyed their pho, perfectly portioned for one. I wish there were a couple more topping in this pho, but it was still a nice and easy meal that I really liked. I will happily come back again if I'm in the area!

Yelp
A little on the more expensive side for Vietnamese food, but on par with what you would expect for Assembly Square. I tried to clay pot catfish with came with a bowl of rice to accompany it and it was great - only slightly annoying because of the fish bones. Portion was filling enough for me. Restaurant itself is bright and open and clean.

Yelp
Beef Noodle: 10/10 Beef Stew: 9/10 Pork Vermicelli: 7/10 Crispy Egg Rolls: 7/10 This restaurant is located in Assembly Row so you have plenty of free 3 hr parking options! The interior is so clean and cute. I was skeptical when I first looked at the menu because the price of their dishes were a bit more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants that I frequent, however the soups blew me away! My first visit I ordered the beef noodle that comes with egg noodles. The broth is so flavorful and rich, and the beef shank falls right off the bone. Loved every bit of this soup and even took home leftovers. My second visit I ordered the beef stew and was equally surprised by how flavorful and rich the soup base is. I also had this soup with egg noodles, which I usually prefer over vermicelli because it doesn't get soggy as quickly. There's plenty of meat in the soup and I also took home leftovers The crispy egg rolls were yummy too but in general I'm not a huge fan of egg rolls. There's a good amount of meat in the rolls. My friend for the pork vermicelli bowl. One comment she had was that the noodles were still warm. Not sure if that's how it should be, but at other restaurants, the noodles usually are not warm. The noodle texture was also softer than expected. However the flavors of the pork really stand out and overall this dish was also pretty good! I will be back to try their pho soups!

Yelp
Great ambiance, yummy food, staff was friendly! I ordered the beef vermicelli bowl. The beef was very tender and bowl was flavorful! A bit pricey than some other spots, but not too bad considering it is in assembly. Would come back to try other items on the menu!

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant nearby my hotel for a weekend visit to Boston. The service was really great and my waitress continually checked up on me. However the ac seemed to be broken so it was a little warm inside. The good thing was it was a breezy night so having the door open helped. Food wise I ordered the fresh spring rolls with chicken to start. These were big and tasty and I was pretty much already full by the time my main dish came out. I ordered the beef vermicelli bowl for my main. The beef was delicious and well seasoned. Unfortunately my noodles seemed mushy/soggy so I wasn't a big fan on this dish as a whole. Also I didn't order it but it's $8 for a Thai iced tea! That's crazy high imo.

Yelp
Overall not a bad dining experience Food: - fried shrimp cakes: favorite of the night! Bottoms were nice and crispy, you could lightly taste the tumeric flavor, the sauce added good flavor, happy we tried it - tofu rice plate: was a sweet flavor with thin slices of tofu, not bad - salmon rice plate: was nicely crisped and also a sweet flavor, also not bad - pho: noodles, beef, meatballs were all cooked to a great level, however the flavor of the broth was not my favorite - generally good textures and decent portion size but was hoping for more in aspect of flavors Service: They were very busy and did their best to be quick about serving. Some dishes did come out a bit slower though. But they were polite and proactive about updates! Ambiance: Nice clean and modern ambiance inside with good level of noise! Very well lit and tables were spacious.

Yelp
I found this place super disappointing. My party and I put our name down and when our table was apparently ready, we still had to wait to be seated. The menu had a lot of options, but everything was pricey. When our food came out, I was disappointed in the portions as well. The food was just okay; there was nothing special about it.
google avatar

Lynn N.

Yelp
Maybe my expectations were too high but I found the food at An Nam a bit underwhelming. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer and there wasn't as much shrimp in them compared to what I'm used to. I ordered the catfish clay pot and my husband got a noodle dish. Both were somewhat smaller portions than what I'd expect for the price. Service was friendly but I'll probably skip this place next time I'm looking for Vietnamese food.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday evening and the place had a decent amount of people for a weeknight, however there were plenty of seats open. We were seated quickly and were serviced quickly upon walking in which was nice. The interior was very modern - felt very nice and clean. The menu had a good selection of dishes and plenty of variety, I would say though that everything was pretty pricy. Being in Assembly though, I suppose it makes sense. The food itself came out within a reasonable amount of time and the portions were okay. Again, pricy and probably not worth the uncharge, but things were tasty nonetheless and I was satisfied at the end. The mussels were good and the noodles were good, just thought it would be more filling. Overall, An Nam was a good experience, I just would probably go somewhere more affordable if craving Vietnamese food next time and it'd likely be better for my wallet while tasting just as good.

Yelp
The food here is very good, deceptively simple. Very fresh, exceptional marinades on the meat and perfect rice & noodles. Quite authentic as well and pretty plating. Where I'll ding points is the service. It took around 15 minutes for our drinks to come out - and we were the only customers for that. The first was made rather quickly - and I just watched the ice melt in it while it waited on the counter. That said, the drinks were well-balanced and tasty. Our waiter was also inattentive and messed up our order. Though, when the wrong order came out - it looked great and we were happy to keep it. Maybe it was an off day. I'd be happy to go back to A Nam again. Especially when the weather gets a little cooler - I'll be looking to check out the soups.

Yelp
One of the best pho meals I ever had. The thick noodles was soft and tender, the brisket had so much flavor and the broth was divine. Highly recommend! Service was meh and could be better ..

Yelp
The ambiance is pretty nice here. It got a clean and pretty decor. Service is standard and the wait staff tries. Food wise, some of the food is mediocre and other food is good. Drink program is awesome here. The restaurant attempts to get Vietnamese food to the masses for an upscale price. It succeed in getting it to the masses but it's also just mediocre Vietnamese food for upscale prices.

Yelp
We (2 people) came here thinking we would have a nice quick sit down lunch after doing some shopping in the area. We expected to be there for 45 minutes max. (We are very fast eaters). An hour and a half later we were finally paying the bill. The service is sub par. They forgot to give us water when we sat down, and when we asked for them when we placed our order they took note and left. 15 minutes later I flagged down a waiter to ask for water again. 10 more minutes later they finally brought out 2 glasses of water, one in a chipped glass. The food is also mediocre. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an app and 2 claypots, pok belly and the catfish. The spring rolls took 45 minutes to come to the table. They were just lettuce with a little vermicelli and rubbery shrimp. Usually I like to see some daikon, carrots, basil, ANYTHING. And so, they were beyond bland and had to be drowned in sauce to be enjoyable. The claypots were edible, and somewhat enjoyable. The pork belly still retained a bit of its natural stinky flavor and the catfish was not cleaned well. The sauce was very salty. The catfish also was slightly burnt to the pot. We aren't food wasters and so ate it anyway, but for the price I would expect better quality food. Glad we came to try, and we'll have to see much improvement before we decide to return.

Yelp
If you are in the Assembly Row area, and craving for some authentic Vietnamese food with relaxing atmosphere, this place is for you We came here for lunch, and as soon as walking in, I love the simplicity/ modern interior design of this place. The ceiling remind me of the bamboo furnitures that are popular in Viet Nam. The food were up to expectations, even tho the portion for Beef Stew noodle is small, they did splurge on the amount of beef. The waiter here is super nice and professional. They always fill up my water and ask how my parties are doing. I will be back for the drink in the future!

Yelp
This restaurant was on my radar for a while and I was glad to finally try it! I stopped by on a weekend evening with no reservations but the host was very helpful and I was still able to get a table for 2 pretty quickly (~15 min wait). I wanted to try a bunch of things on their menu, which had way more options than what I could find online at the time. They also had a specials menu. Banh khot ($15): I'm not the best judge of this dish because it was actually my first time having it, but I did enjoy how fresh it tasted with all the veggies and nuoc cham. The shrimp were plump and did not dry out while the batter was very crispy! Mi kho ($21): all the toppings they added to the noodles were so flavorful and tasty. I liked how the crispiness of the pork belly and fried shallots contrasted with the soft noodles. The sauce was a mild soy-based sauce. I wasn't the biggest fan of how the noodles tasted. I think they could have been boiled with a little more salt because they didn't really absorb the seasoning of the sauce. Otherwise it was a solid dish. Ca bong lau ($20): you really can't go wrong with clay pot catfish! I was glad to try so many dishes from the menu but a small part of me wishes I ordered more of their clay pots. The fish was tender, moist, and lightly sweet. One could eat so much rice with this! Lastly, I tried the ambarella juice ($8). It had a flavor I've never had before (kind of reminded me of green mango, but earthier). It was a nice non-alcoholic option but I thought the price was quite steep. Overall this was a great spot!. The food was tasty and presented gorgeously.

Yelp
I had a great time at this restaurant! Parking is also super convenient since the garages have free parking for 3 hours. We came in on Saturday event and fortunately there was no wait for 4 people. The service was quick and the restaurant interior is very clean and bright. I ordered the seafood noodle soup, and was pleasantly surprised. The soup was warm and well seasoned. I asked for no cilantro but still found a few flecks here and there and could definitely taste it, so be wary if you're a fellow cilantro hater. The shrimp was slightly overcooked, but the squid and fish cakes were great! I chose the rice noodles and thought it went really well with the soup. Someone else in my party got the pho and thought the portion size was a little small. Overall, the food is a little pricey but tastes great! Probably wouldn't recommend the pho but everything else is good. Will probably be back!

K B.

Yelp
The good- spring rolls with tofu and noodle bowl were both fresh and tasty. Food came out quickly. The mediocre- Tom Yum soup had a good flavor, spicy, but some of the seafood wasn't our favorite such as the fish cakea. Everything came out at once even though we requested certain items be brought first. The bad- servers were pretty clueless. We had to ask for water multiple times despite the fact they appeared to be looking directly at our table. I was not offered anything with my pho such as bean sprouts, lime, basil, etc. The pho itself contained the fattiest meat I had ever seen (I was told it was beef shank and brisket).

Yelp
Love this new find around the area, food is delicious and would love to come back again if they are not busy. Its pretty nice a new on the inside and its clean too. Deserts are also good with nice selection. Service is at a reasonable time, food came out fresh. The soups are good too. We ordered a couple of appetizers and they were good as well. Would love to come back when given the chance

Yelp
We had the rare opportunity to come as a little lunch date mid afternoon so wasn't crowded. The restaurant was nice, bright and casual inside. There's food is delicious and had food that is harder to come by in the Boston area. The food was pricier for the portions but had some Hue/central Vietnamese dishes that I don't normally see in other Vietnamese restaurants. We just got platters and starters that easily filled up just the two of us.
google avatar

Malina N.

Yelp
I can definitely say that An Nam is spot on with their flavors when it comes to their phở which you can order with beef or chicken! You know it's legit when they have chili oil you can add on top! Of the appetizers I tried, I enjoyed the bánh khọt the most (I just wish I could've had more) and of course had to order their vietnamese iced coffee to get me through this cold winter day! Although An Nam is very pricey for their portions, their flavors are well worth if you're desperate to find authentic Vietnamese flavors outside of Dorchester Thankfully there are now two An Nam locations to enjoy in both Harvard Cambridge and Assembly Row Somerville!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! The reviews were mixed for this place so I wasn't sure what to expect. I came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch at noon and there were plenty of tables available but did seem to fill up. We ordered the salad with chicken, the grilled chicken vermicelli bowl and Vietnamese coffee. Great presentation for the food. Salad was decent, likely won't get it again. The shallots overpowered the dish, but the fish sauce dressing was good. The grilled chicken vermicelli had well marinated chicken. The viet coffee is steep at $8 but it was good, not overly sweet but still on the sweeter side. Our friends ordered the pho and they liked it. Definitely smaller portion sizes for the price but given the location it's kind of expected. I'm glad there's this option in assembly row! Will likely come back if im shopping in the area. Waitstaff was very nice. Our friends had a toddler with them and asked for an extra bowl and they brought scissors to cut the noodles which was a nice thought. Our waiter was attentive until it got busier in the afternoon. We had to wave down staff for the check.

Yelp
We really liked this place and plan to go back. I got the pork vermicelli bowl and it was really tasty. Plenty of juicy pork slices. I asked for peanut sauce to go with it. My husband got the wonton soup, that I thought would be boring, but that clear broth that they came in was just so good. But the star of the night, was a friend who got the grilled short rib plate...it hit the jackpot! Service was a bit slow, especially when we had to watch all the delicious looking food being delivered to other people. The quality of the food was better than your average Vietnamese joint. Cute, clean atmosphere....waiters were very attentive.

Yelp
We tried An Nam earlier this summer after some hot weekday shopping around Assembly Row. The restaurant interior looks really nice, with unique tiling and furniture. It was quite hot inside -- around 80F -- which didn't pair well with the hot noodle soup dishes... We got 4 items, which was more than enough food for 3 people. We tried the appetizer combo #2. My favorite appetizer was the tapioca dumplings -- great texture and flavor with shrimp inside. The other items were not particularly good, so I would just get the tapioca dumplings in the future. The pho tai was quite disappointing. The broth was sweet, which was the most prominent flavor (rather than having any sort of beefy savoriness or richness). The meat was a bit thick and stringy. The noodles were fine. I wouldn't get this again. The grilled pork banh mi was decent. The bread was good, it had some sour and sweet vegetable flavors, and the grilled pork was alright. I prefer other places for banh mi, so I wouldn't come back to An Nam for the banh mi. I tried a bit of the clay pot rice with pork belly. I thought the flavor was pretty good. The pork wasn't super tender but it was edible. I might try the claypot catfish in the future. The service was okay; they took a while to fill up our water even though there weren't many parties in the restaurant. Their menu is pretty extensive so I may come back in the future. I really wanted to try the bun rieu but unfortunately a lot of their specials were not available that day.

Yelp
Haven't sat here yet to try the restaurant and gauge the service, but can only speak to the ambiance and the food. The food has never failed me. It's up to parr with delicious Vietnamese food. I've ordered food to go from here probably about 6-7 times now. Will definitely continue to order food when I have my Vietnamese cravings or I become ill as the soups tend to heal me.

Yelp
Cute restaurant in Assembly Row. Love the ambiance. The service was great too. The food was just alright though. Definitely 3 stars for the food.

Yelp
I haven't really walked around Assembly row in a while and how it has changed in the past few years. Volo courts and all. One of the places that has been on my mind was An nam which opened this year and is offering some Vietnamese flavor to this area. I realized this is actually their second location as there is also a location in Harvard Square. One thing they are not missing in the restaurant is the lights, it's very bright when you walk in which was perfect for my food photos tehe. They are busier on weekends and the wait for a table took about 45+ minutes understandably because it was a smaller restaurant and looked to seat around 40 people. Apparently their busy hours are around 6-8pm those days so if you want to eat here be prepared to wait. The staff was great in getting our table ready once they knew they had a spot ready for us. Their menu is so big and menu items are ranging from like $18-30. The appetizers come with like 2-4 items so for bigger groups of 4 or plus you might want to get a bunch of apps or double up on an order. The portion size of entree items really depends on what you get. For example, multiple people in our party got noodles and that thing was huge and they were left stuffed. However, I went with the claypot and my friend got a rice dish and the mound of rice was small and so was the meat/fish portion. I was not full when I left and when I got home I was hungry again. However, I have never tried catfish and am always nervous about fish dishes being very fishy but the flavor was so lovely and complex. It reminded me of some of the flavors I would taste when my mom makes Nigerian food. Overall, great spot but be mindful of what you are getting! $$ Food 9 Atmosphere 7 Service 7 What we got Mango Passion drink Claypot- Catfish

Yelp
A refreshing modern update/spin on Vietnamese dining, in other words not your average Pho/bowls/stirfry. The pho oxtail broth was very well done, and the noodles were fresh & thick rice noodles, an unexpected treat. The spring rolls were freshly wrapped in rice skin with vermicelli and lettuce, and the peanut dip tasted freshly made. The stirfry vegetables were fresh, and large sliced, a nice touch. Minor nit that the service was a tad slow, but it was busy at the time.

Yelp
Wow. The food here is so good. See pictures. So glad we've found this place. We haven't seen that many Vietnamese cuisine in the area, and this place definitely shoebhow amazing the food is. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Sadness. I've been learning more about food and the poisons we put in our bodies without even knowing it. I ate here a zillion times but the cleaner I eat the more I noticed that I would feel so sluggish and tired after eating here. Vietnamese is usually light and refreshing. So I thought, "Oh man, they must use MSG. Please, please tell me they don't." Sure enough I called and asked. The response I got was kind of crazy. The gentleman said, "Yes. We use MSG. All Vietnamese food has MSG." I really hope that's not the case. So far I've been making my own Pho. I have called other places too, like popular Viet Citron. All MSG. Sadness. MSG is so bad for you. Can cause brain lesions and other issues.

Yelp
Excellent vietnamese food with a lovely warm modern ambiance and attentive service. The food here is a bit on the pricier side but I have no complaints given its location, the quality of the food, and the overall dining experience. Their menu is on the smaller side but there's still a really good variety of vietnamese staples at the same time including a number of appetizers (e.g summer rolls, skewers, salads, tapioca rice cakes) pho, a few speciality noodle soups, grilled meat rice plates, vermicelli bowls, stir frys, and a few caramelized clay pots. I was able to try their beef pho, conch salad, and their signature An Nam Platter (includes a sample selection of appetizers and grilled meats), and everything was delicious! TIP: The restaurant is located right across from the Ashley Furniture store at Assembly Row. We parked right outside of Ashley's (free 3 hour lot parking) and walked right over to the restaurant (easy 1 minute walk). Looking forward to come back soon!

Yelp
I heard this new Vietnamese restaurant just opened at Assembly Row and I wanted to pay a visit. I actually saw pictures that my friends came here during the grand opening week and I had to try. The food caught my eyes with beautiful and traditional presentation. The platter used a bamboo plate that I am pretty sure made and transported from Vietnam. They used banana leaves to put the food on top. From my understanding of Vietnamese cuisine, the banana leaves help keep the heat and the moist of the food as well as adding flavors. In Vietnam, it was often used back then as a cheap and "homy" food packaging method, but it is SO hard to find in the states, especially colder zone like New England. It shows the restaurant is very thoughtful about the little details. My friend doesn't eat pork so our An Nam Fine Vermicelli Platter was altered a bit based on our needs. I love the noodle so much! It was just perfect!! There were variety of different protein options for this platter such as grilled shrimp, beef and chicken. We also ordered BANH KHOT which is a plate with 6 little Vietnamese pancakes with a shrimp on top. Again, this is a time consuming dish to make at home and I loved it too much that I failed to take a picture prior to finishing it! Highly recommend. You cannot find this particular dish at MOST Vietnamese restaurants in Massachusetts. The banana ice cream looks like was made from a traditional recipe with condensed milk, coconut and peanuts - the whip cream & chocolate part in top is not traditional, but it gave a presentation to the dish. About the service, the staff were very tentative and welcoming. I waited for my friend for a while and they stopped by several times to ensure I was ok and whether I needed water or anything prior to my friend came. We ended up staying for a long time to catch up and it didn't bother them at all. They were very friendly! Overall, I love the atmosphere, food, and service here! I will definitely come back!

Yelp
The restaurant was cute. Definitely newly built. Service was good. The food was all just eh to me. The pho broth didn't hit like it should. Pho should rejuvenate your body! Your soul! It was just ok. Needed depth. The fried rolls was prob the best thing I had there. Meaty. Proportioned right.

Yelp
From the ambiance ... to the service ... to the food ... LOVED!!! Ambiance: Love their aesthetic!!! Very clean, simple, and modern. The inside feels very luxurious. Despite the smaller-ish space, the restaurant felt very airy and open. Service: Service was amazing!!! Very welcoming and attentive. Food came out fast! I went in between lunch and dinner time, so the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Would like to go during a busier time ... to see if the quality of the service remains the same. Food: Not an expert on Vietnamese food, but it tasted pretty authentic. They have some interesting dishes that you may or may not find at other Vietnamese restaurants. This is definitely the nicest and cleanest Vietnamese restaurant I've been to, which I definitely appreciate. I think for the portion size ... food was a little on the expensive side. Hence ... minus a start. All in all, I'd definitely try this place again, so ... I recommend!!!

Yelp
Located at Assembly Row, I wanted to try An Nam as it's fairly new. The interior is light , and modern. I came for a late lunch on a weekend and it had a few other patrons. It is fairly pricey, but makes sense for the location and fancy atmosphere. I ordered the banh khot and suon nuong. The banh khot was pretty good. I wish they were a bit crispier. The com suon nuong was also pretty good. They do have items not on typical Vietnamese menus such as banh khot (crispy shrimp cake), banh beo (steamed rice cake), and gan ga nuong (seasoned chicken liver). If I was with a larger party, I would order one of the special platters to try everything. Service was decent. Our waiter forgot our waters so we had to ask for them halfway through the meal. Overall, good food on the pricier end. I would only come back to try the other dishes not on typical Vietnamese menus.

Yelp
I ordered the #2 appetizer combo. They either ran out of the cha chien or forgot. I was looking forward to it.

Yelp
Came on a weekend at prime dinner time and only had to wait for 15 minutes to get a table! It was very popular. The food was pretty good and service was so fast. Would come back again!

Yelp
Food is okay. Service was okay. If you need a fix in the area, then I think it's good enough. It's middle of the road, good for those who don't know authentic.

Yelp
A new place in assembly row that opened up and sells Vietnamese food. I got some chicken dish which cost me a little over $20 and was closer to $30 after tax and tip. You can be the judge of the portion of the food based on the picture but it was a little lackluster for the cost. I saw the price of the pho which was also too high for pho so my conclusion is that most of the menu items are bit too expensive overpriced. It seems like a more upscale Vietnamese restaurant but Vietnamese food works better as a cheaper and no-frills cuisine. The chicken dish was good but not enough food for the price I paid. It had chicken liver which is not something I order much. Each of the individual items on the dish wasn't bad but rice + chicken should never be this expensive. The plating is very pretty and it has nice variety. Service was alright but nothing standout.

Yelp
Located in Somerville's fast growing neighborhood("The Row") An Nam has a bright & clean esthetic, lovely chinaware & top notch offerings(clay pot came hot from the oven w/ cat fish ..delicious & the grilled items well -shrimp & chicken - were well prepared & authentic. An Nam is a welcome eaterie in Somerville's increasingly diverse offerings. The waiter may have been a college student ..a few slip ups ..but over all the service was fine & accommodating(we ordered alit & ate "family style"/sharing)

Yelp
We stopped by here for a quick lunch while hanging around Assembly Square and ordered the Pho Tai & Bo Kho. I liked the broth in the Pho Tai. It was sweet and very flavorful. The Bo Kho was okay. Overall, I felt like the portions could've been a bit more. Even though places may skimp out on meat, they'll give more noodles but here, there was neither much noodle nor meat.
