I didn’t know what to expect from ANA except I have read great reviews about the airline. I have had some bad experiences with airlines, including the second legs of my trip with your partner United Airlines that included cramped seats, lack of food choices before we even departed and food that was not considered edible. Our great service started on December 23, 2024, when we had difficulty in finding the long term parking at SFO, so we were frustrated and thinking that we were going to have a bad experience at the customer service counter but we were happily wrong in this case. They pointed us to an open counter which was great. We told the staff about our parking experience, and they were very sympathetic by listening and letting us know that we will get us checked in and on our way. I was amazed by the professionalism, attention to detail, customer faced and very easy to communicate with. They even checked my CPAP machine that was listed on the medical devices for my flight. They confirmed the model, checked the machine information and asked if I was going to use it in flight. I let them know that I will be using it at my destination. At the same time, they were processing our boarding passes, which I saw as very efficient. We spent only 15 minutes total for our experience at the counter. We were greeted by warm and friendly flight attendants who for the entire flight I saw as performing above and beyond. The flight food even though I didn’t consume was great quality for my wife. She loved all the meals that she was given during the flight. Even the flight attendant asked me if I was sure if I wanted a meal and I told her no thank you. The fact that I was asked more than once and pay attention to detail about my well being on the flight was above and beyond. They even provided me with an extender within two minutes. Upon our departure, I was greeted with a smile, and we told them all on the way out “Merry Christmas.” They were surprised and reciprocated to me and my wife which made arriving on Christmas Eve more special to us.

We missed our flight to Japan because my son developed a high fever. Despite spending over six hours on hold during multiple attempts to reach ANA, we either received no response or were abruptly disconnected. Frustrated by the lack of assistance and finding online research suggesting slim chances they would help, we decided to cease further attempts to contact the airline and attended to our sick child. Consequently, we purchased one-way tickets, assuming we could utilize our return tickets for the journey back. However, upon attempting online check-in, we were prompted with a message stating, "Check-in is not available; please proceed to the airport for check-in." Upon arriving at the airport, we discovered that we could not check -in and our ticket had been canceled due to our failure to appear for the initial departure. Furthermore, ANA refused to honor our return trip ticket and demanded over $6000 per ticket for an Economy flight home. It's worth noting that we received no notification from ANA regarding the cancellation of our ticket. Asking to speak with a supervisor did not help. It's not fun being stranded in a foreign country and we ended up booking another airline for the flight home.

The staff are angels. I had a horrible morning with personal difficulties and had left my passport at home. They made every effort to find solutions while I waited and by some miracle I was able to catch my flight safely. I’ve travelled this airline many times over the past 15 years and their professionalism and kindness never ceases to surprise me. Today SFO ground staff for this airline really saved me and I cannot thank them enough.

This is the first time I’ve flown Ana Airlines, I’ve always flew on Japan airlines or United when going to Japan or connecting in Japan! First SFO, very Disorganized and everyone was running around like a chicken heads cut off! Our flight was delayed for an hour! We were flying business class that I paid $9300 for two of us! No clear indication who should board first other then guest with wheelchair or small babies! I think this has more to do with SFO then Ana itself! The business class stewardess was absolutely wonderful and very good at her job! Never waking you for anything if your fast asleep, the pod was spacious and easy to use and it was configure in a way that there was never any other passengers right next to you! My only complaint is the padding or the seat and the ext sleeping pad was very stiff and uncomfortable even though I can lay completely flat! It beats sleeping upright I guess! I’ve flown Japan airlines business class once before. I may be flying Ana again unless the price was a huge difference! Japan airline business on this trip to HCMC was a few hundred dollars less but mainly I choose Ana because I’ve never flown with them and the connecting fly was at the same airport so I didn’t have to do any of the Covid protocols! The 787 was very smooth and quiet even though we sat by the engine section! Pepper & Morris

Extremely bad representatives. I was trying to fly Philippines and I am not from Philippines. The check in counter staff from ANA really hold me there for more than 15 minutes and she even made racist comment on me in her language (Philippino language) I got it translated with person next to me. Terrible service at San Francisco airport.

Their in-flight service is good, but sales service is terrible. They cancelled my flight and are not willing to compensate the loss I suffered for their cancellation, and NO response to my complaints to their customer service and customer survey!

The ANA ticketing counter was not open when I arrived at the airport. Also, there were no signs indicating where the ANA counter was located. Unprofessional!

Yelp
Flew out of SFO the other night and it was a world class experience. Check-in was quick and easy at Section 1. ANA has separate check-in counters for premium cabins or bag drop only. Check-in agents seemed to be contract staff, based upon their generic black uniform. Check-in was courteous and easy. Security was easy. TSA Pre check and priority security seemed to be bundled together where no liquids or laptop needing to be removed. ANA's contract lounge United Polaris and United Club were both horrific and embarrassing. Boarding was on-time and merely a photo was needed to board. As our plane was merely 1/3 full, boarding was quick and we left ahead of schedule. Service started with a pre-departure beverage and we were given a couple amuse bouches for the late night departures. Heavy snacks are available at any time. Flew out on the original Boeing 777-300ER and it was fine. All the seats face forward and wifi is complimentary for Business class passengers. Apparently ANA sends out a voucher via email...I didn't find mine maybe because I booked via United? The seat itself is lieflat and forward facing. The screen is touchscreen and can be also controlled by the remote. There is a reading lamp too. The seat includes a mattress topper along with a super comfortable blanket and pillow. Service throughout the flight was world class. A meal was served 2.5 hours prior to landing. Opted for the Japanese option which included a wide variety of appetizers along with a main course of steamed fish served with a side of steam rice and miso soup.

Yelp
Best airline I have ever traveled on. My brother and I flew ANA nonstop from O'Hare to Tokyo and back in fall 2017 and we were very pleased with service, space and accomodations. - Flight attendants and desk staff were very helpful. On the flight back we were somewhat delayed boarding and the time we were going to be getting on the plane coincided with when I needed to take a medication; when I explained this to a flight attendant at the desk, they boarded us first and got me water, which was very helpful. - Good amount of leg room in the economy seats, and they are built so even if you tilt your chair back it doesn't lean into someone else's space. - 2 meals on the nonstop flight - Coming back we were on one of the Star Wars Themed planes! Would definitely fly them again when traveling to Japan or elsewhere.

Yelp
Whenever flying to Asia from SFO, we generally try to avoid United as much as possible. We find far better service, food, and comfort with Asian airlines such as Cathay, Singapore, and EVA. For our most recent trip to Tokyo, I am happy to add ANA among one of the excellent airlines to Japan: * Economy seats had tons of leg room, and all seats have their own touch movie-screen, USB outlet, and video game/control panel. I even like their foot rest that you can use to elevate your feet. * Decent movie selection: all of the Star Wars movies, Greatest Showman, Shape of Water along with older classics line Descendants. Plus tons of international films. * You'll get two meals here per leg and they're decent as far as airline food goes. You'll often find beef over rice and Japanese side dishes like a piece of sushi or pickled veggies. From NRT-SFO, breakfast was a nice teriyaki whitefish over rice. TIP: If its just two of you traveling, Row 39 on the 777-300 is a two seater so you'll be a bit less cramped. Plus you get three seat-back pockets to work with. Also, close access to restroom. Lastly, you get to board in the first Economy boarding group from SFO.

Yelp
customer service FAILURE...yesterday i was on hold for 2hours and 11min before someone answered. TODAY, i'm going on 45 minutes so far. I tried to call before but couldn't hold for that long. I'm traveling with my daughter but she is returning later so we are on two separate reservations. We wanted to bid on upgrades but wanted to make sure if we won the bid we would be moved together. There is NO WAY to connect the reservation so I was force to call customer service. Turns out there are no more seats. Today we both checked in and we are no longer sitting next to each other. We PAID EXTRA TO BOOK OUR SEATS and now we are rows apart. There is no way to fix this except to wait for another long hold. This is insane. I understand a backlog...but on this reservation alone, i've so far had two over two hour hold times...and i'm sure this current one will be the same. To top it off when i checked in i was briefly able to "connect" a reservation but then it froze on me. That's when i saw my daughter was not seated next to me. I replicated the same log in...and i can't see it anymore. no way to see the connected reservations. This is horrible.

Yelp
This rating is for the "operations" side of the company. Staff at Airport in SF and Tokyo are excellent. On board staff are great. But to call with questions related to a flight or about charges for a flight is outrageously bad. The wait is beyond reality. At times over an hour. If ANA wants to gain credibility as a company, they must fix this. If not, the CEO or XVP should be fired. This situation with them is unacceptable. JAL is beginning to look like an option.

Yelp
There are people out there that will tell you that the world is round, cats do not have nine lives, and Tupac is no longer alive. They are the same type of people that believe that elevators operate via physics when they clearly operate using some sort of strange mystical power. This is the strange mystical power that I do believe operates All Nippon Airways; the magic that goes by the name: Teleportation (noun) - the act of transporting or being transported across space and distance instantly All Nippon Airways has teleported me to and from Japan a few times now. Though "instantly" is a bit of a stretch, the time to teleport doesn't feel too long thanks to the hospitality of the crew on board and the comfortableness of the seating. Compared to other international teleportation services, I find ANA to be in perfect balance when it comes to enjoyability and affordability. There is a good amount of leg space. The seats are cushioned well. The drink service is great. Even the food is great! I've never had any issues with ANA, and they will definitely have my continual support.

Yelp
Three stars because of poor website navigation that would make life much easier if they moved in to the 21st Century.

Yelp
Flew into SFO on ANA on Friday, April 15th. Our flight from NRT was scheduled to land at 10:35am, but we actually touched down around 10:10am. I flew United to Japan, but flying ANA back was so much better. The economy / coach seats were softer and more comfy. We got our own TVs with on demand movies, games, etc. I even got to play Tetris with the roommate's brother. I suck and completely lost all games, but that's another story. All personal entertainment centers came with a USB port for charging. I slept more on this flight, so I was only awake for a snack and a meal. The food was standard as was the alcohol selection. Complimentary wine and beer. The snack was a small bag of rice crackers which I paired with white wine. For the meal offered, you got a choice of something Asian style or American style. I opted for the American dinner which was an Italian style hamburger steak. Came with a small salad, something that resembled potato salad and some type of noodle side. We got Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream for dessert. I don't know why, but I definitely enjoy flying airlines based in other countries. If priced the same, I'd pick ANA over United any time. Their planes seem more up to date and the service always feels a little better. Now if only I could get into Business or First Class somehow. One of these days, it'll happen!

Yelp
We flew on Business Class 3 passengers roundtrip SFO-BKK 07/07/2022 flight # NH 107 to Tokyo .Confirmed reservations # 6F7PGQ..check-in @ 10.45 p.m. 07/06/2022 premium check-in window counter...agent told us to hurry up when only 2 people waiting to check-in behind us....we were told no Polaris Lounge service which advertised on ANA website when booking/confirmed for International business class passengers used only...looking forward to a prestige Polaris lounge for a full dinner service.... very disappointed.....at the boarding gate was 30 minutes late no announcement of delay.......continue on plane no flight attendants direct passenger to seating........6 hour into flight, ordered snacks and drinks never arrived.....2-3 hour before landing inTokyo meals served, we order Japanese meals ...we received one trays of meals with no drinks or desserts.... Flights attendants and desk staff were unorganized and not helpful ... All and all, we flew ANA on Business due to their known reputations for Business class passengers, big disappointments. Contacted ANA on this incident waiting for respond ?????

Yelp
I've been with Continental, Southwest, and United but All Nippon Airways aka ANA has become my absolute favorite airline of all time! The services they provided were very professional and customer oriented. I flew with ANA from Los Angeles to Narita and then from Narita to Vietnam, both experiences made my trip comfortable. I didn't want to leave the plane! After about an hour into my flight, the flight attendants started bringing out drinks for us. They have a special Japanese soda that was pretty good. Following the drinks came hot wet towels with the light scent of tea for us to wash our hands and faces before dinner service. Loved the scent of tea on those warm towels! Then came the amazing food. First they hand you a menu with two options (A or B) and pictures of the food included. If you can't speak Japanese or English, just point to the picture you want. They give you huge dinner plates (check out my photos) & the food was really high quality. Not your usual airplane food! After dinner came endless drinks. Attendants would come by every 20-30 minutes offering us more drinks. It was awesome! Exceptional service with a friendly smile with each encounter. Bathrooms are often scary on airlines, but ANA's bathrooms were kept really clean. The only downside I could think of was the fact that the seats weren't too comfortable, but United wasn't any better so I'm guessing that's the standard for most airlines. I flew economy so I can't comment on Business or First Class. Regardless, I was able to get enough sleep on my flights and had a good experience.

Yelp
Outstanding service on the plane - Airport staff tend to be rude- luggage also was horrible condition when arrived back home - Broken caster, cracked casing, to bind severely dented- broken lock, like they decided to play football using it! At one airport in Tokyo we tried to let them know something was biting people's ankles (fleas or something else) next thing we know 5 minutes later my name is being called for a full ANA search of luggage and person all they found was dirty underwear from a long trip abroad! Never ever ever tell them they may have a bug in their lobby unless you want searched under the guise of a security check lol! I do definitely compliment the cabin crews though! They were some of the best I have had the pleasure of experience dealing with - airport ANA staff though only deserve a 1/25 if a star!

Yelp
Horrible airline company with completely inept staff! My flight to Japan was canceled and these a#*holes jerked us around for hours! Unclear communication, lies, $15 food vouchers, 10 hours later we were told to go home and come back the next day. Never again. Japan airlines is so much better! This company should go out of business soon- I hope! NEVER AGAIN-AVOID!

Yelp
Ni Hao! or Konichiwa!!!!! Finally back from vacation and to kick it off, I rode on one of the best International Airlines a gal can ask for =) Let me start off by saying the whole flight crew was so POLITE and Considerate. The likes: Seats-comfortable, recline & roomy Mini tv screens infront of every seat- Up to date movies in English, Japanese, & Chinese. The food: Menu-consists of American or Asian & Free Alcohol! Complimentary blanket & comfy slippers are provided to every patron I flew from SFO to Shangai-Beijing-and to Japan! experience? AMAZING!!

Yelp
Booked through travel agent. There's a $100 for a 2nd baggage fee going over to Asia. It was the first time ever that we ever ran into that. Changing flight on the way back was another $450, so we ended up flying back with a different carrier all together. Never will we use them again and we haven't for the past 5 years!

Yelp
Traveling to the Philippines around Christmas time can really break the bank if you don't buy your tickets early enough or shop around. I was so happy when my husband and I managed to get a flight to Manila for a really good price on ANA. Of course, we had to buy our tickets in March for our December trip, but why wait if you can save a lot of money buying you tickets early. My father-in-law decided to go at the last minute and he ended up paying $800 more than we did! I'm shaking my head at all these poor reviews of ANA because we had a great experience on all legs of our trip to Manila. Our value fare took us to a few places, from SFO to LAX (on United), LAX to Tokyo/Haneda and Haneda to Manila. On our return flight, we went through Seattle instead of LA. We had a 3 hour layover in Tokyo both ways which was just enough time to get off the plane, go through security, freshen up, eat a hot meal, and get that blood flowing again by walking around and shopping. The service on and off board the plane was fantastic. The flight attendants were very friendly and always smiling. They served us two meals (better than most airline food) on the long haul flight and they give you a choice between Japanese and American food. I tried both and, not surprisingly, the Japanese meal was better. You can also choose from a variety of beverages--beers, wine, liquor, tea, coffee, sodas, etc. I really appreciated the water and juices attendants were constantly offering in between meals. The entertainment system was good. They had a variety of movies and tv shows to pass the time. I slept most of the way to Manila, but I did take advantage of the movies on our way back to the States. We would definitely fly ANA again. It's up there with Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific.

Yelp
Flying with ANA is always a pleasure due to the amazing hospitality and service of the crew members. I've flown in the economy cabin on three trips to Japan and was extremely satisfied with each of my experiences - they really know how to make a 10+ hour flight feel pleasant. The seats in the economy section are a bit narrow but I feel the leg space is above average. Some of the newer aircrafts even have foot rests that you can use. Very impressed with their meal selection: they always offer one western-style and one Japanese-style meal, and they ask beforehand if you have any dietary restrictions (like vegetarian) to accommodate. All the meals I've had were fantastic -- highlights were rice with salmon flakes, seafood pasta, and cold udon with dipping sauce. Their beverage selection is fabulous - water, tea, coffee, juices, sodas, beers, wines, soups - almost everything you can ask for. They also occasionally pass out ice cream, snacks, sandwiches, and bottles of water. For entertainment, they offer a TV screen for each seat, with a variety of movies, TV series, games, audio tracks. ANA is definitely my favorite airline and I will continue flying with them on my future trips to Japan. Highly recommended!

Yelp
ANA GA DAISUKI! You can read my earlier post about ANA and why I love it so much even to this day. I recently flew this magical Japanese flier round trip from Narita (Tokyo) to Changi Airport (Singapore) and had another great experience. This time I flew on two different plane models for comparison. The later had an updated media set which was BOMB... interactive touch screen and introduction videos to the different media sets. Let me go with some of the things that blew my mind this time. [AKB48 SPECIAL!] ANA was offering a channel devoted to the top hits of AKB48!! Sugii!! Now you can jam to Heavy Rotation and Aitakatta during the entire flight as you hear them be interviewed in a language you probably don't understand. Wait- you don't know who AKB48 are?! Better get on it! [MR. BRITISH CAPTAIN] My captain during my second flight was definitely English- he had a strong accent. What blew me away with him was that during my return flight, he was the one that made the announcements in Japanese! His Nihongo was not bad at all! lol, although quite hilarious as well. [DATE MOVIE CENTRAL] This month of June, ANA offered so many dating films featuring Cameron Diaz, Ashton, and Julia Roberts... like, really. PS I Love You, What Happens In Vegas, You've Got Mail... and even My Best Friend's Wedding!? Geez, throw me some chu-hi and I'm set (which of course, are complimentary on the flight. Remember to get your boozing on) [BENTOU-ESQUE] What other airliner would do their food in a way to make it seem like a bentou box? My small dish of "sides" was so nicely prepared that I didn't even want to eat it. But alas, my stomach was calling and something needed to be done. Shiro wine, onegai shimasu. [USB PLUG??] On the newer flight models, even economy class has a USB plug next to the personal TV screens to that you can charge your iPod or other utilities that require USB. It's not an outlet, but it's a start. Seriously, ANA is the best airliner you can do if you want to travel to and from Japan. Excellent service and staff, good food, plenty of booze for the tummy, and an entertainment system that rocks. I'd fly ANA again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
It was my first time traveling to a foreign country and I used All Nippon Air to go to Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan. I didn't really do my research on airlines because I was so eager to book a flight. Luckily ANA turned out to be one of the nicer airlines. I was traveling alone and the thought of sitting on a plane for 16 hours or was gut wrenching, but ANA made it such a pleasant experience. Time actually went by fast! The economy seats were comfy and clean. Each seat had it's own TV with a wide selection of new released movies, music, and games. On top of that, there was a huge flat screen TV in front of each section that had a live camera showing where we were in the sky and all of the flight info. The food was really good too and I walked off the plane stuffed. We had 2 meals, which included traditional Japanese appetizers, entree, and dessert. Ice cream!! In between meals, the flight attendants would walk around with beverages and snacks. I had lots of green tea and munched on fruit, Pringles, and cookies. They also offered free mini wine bottles and beer. I definitely felt pampered on my flight to Japan and was kind of sad when it was over. My flight was a little over $1000. I could have found a cheaper flight with another airline, but the service and experience wouldn't have been as good as ANA. I'll be sure to use ANA for my future flights to Asia! The flight was smooth and was perfectly on time. Flight attendants were super nice, entertainment was good and food was great!

Yelp
We made family reservations last month, August, including seat assignments for 3 of us traveling to the Philippines this coming November. We paid the airfares including the charges for seat assignments. Then we received e-mail from All Nippon Airlines this week notifying us of seat changes. How can this be possible? We reserved these seats, and paid for them so we can be seated together. I thought when you reserve the seat no one can select it again. Totally frustrating and unimaginable. I don't think we'll fly All Nippon again.

Yelp
This review is for my economy class flight to Tokyo on ANA's Boeing 777-300ER. On this version of ANA's Boeing 777-300ER (version 4 on Seat Guru), there are two economy class cabins in a higher-density 3 X 4 X 3 layout. The forward economy class cabin is smaller and more private with only 6 rows of seats whereas the rear cabin is much larger with 13 rows of seats. All economy class seats are 17'' wide and have 31 inches of pitch. It's a tight squeeze. And keep in mind, bulkhead and emergency exit row seats will have their IFE monitor and tray tables located within the fixed armrests so seat width in those rows will be further reduced slightly. My personal opinion is the seats in the forward mini-cabin are more ideal than the larger, more crowded rear cabin. However, if you are traveling with another person, try to get the seats on the left or right sides of rows 39 or 40. They are in sets of two and offer more space in between the window seat and the wall. Waiting at my seat was a pillow, day blanket and set of plastic headphones. Storage-wise, you can store you items in the large overhead bins or under the seat in front of you and your electronic devices such as iPads and laptops can be stored in the seatback pocket. In addition to the main seatback pocket, there is a secondary mesh seatback pocket for items like your wallet, glasses and cell phone. I like the mesh pocket as you can see what's in them reducing the chances that you will leave your valuables behind. Each economy class seat is equipped with a personal entertainment system with audio/video, on demand entertainment, a foot rest, coat hook, USB port, universal electrical outlet (located under the seat) and personal reading lamp. The HD in-flight entertainment monitor is clear and crisp but the entertainment selection itself was very weak. For their "new releases", there was only a selection of about 8 new movies including titles such as Jurassic Park, Minions, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Train Wreck. As for their "Hollywood Hits" section, add on a handful of movies such as the other Mission Impossible movies, Edward Scissor Hands and Minority Report. If movies aren't your thing, there are audio channels, video games, a moving map, forward facing camera and seat-to-seat chat functions to keep you entertained. Lucky for me, I haven't seen any movies lately so I was able to keep myself entertained with the mediocre selection of movie titles. Lunch service started with drinks and a package of rice crackers. Alcoholic drinks (beer, wine and spirits) were complimentary but it was a very limited selection. We had an option of a Japanese set meal or an international option. I went with the international option, which consisted of a cold cuts starter, potato salad, bread roll and the meatball with vegetables (hash browns) main dish. I know. It totally sounds random right? Meatballs and hash browns? But surprisingly, it tasted really good and I ate it all. After I was done eating, my tray was taken away and the flight attendants came by with Hagaan Dazs vanilla ice cream. After lunch, I reclined my seat back and settled in for a movie. Seat comfort was really nice. Unlike the fake seat recline on ANA's 787 (where the seat pan just moves forward but the seatback is fixed), this seat had a real recline and it was pretty decent too. Halfway through the movie, I fell asleep and was able to actually get about 3 hours of rest. That's pretty good for an economy seat. In between meals, beverages and snacks such as rice crackers, bananas and chocolates were laid out in the galleys. About two and a half hours before arrival into Tokyo, the cabin lights were turned on and the cabin crew came by to prepare for our pre-arrival meal service. Hot towels and beverages were distributed followed by our meals. Our two options were shrimp and scallop pasta or port wine braised chicken and pasta. I went with the chicken and pasta, served with a side of fruit, yogurt and a bread roll. Again, it was a weird combination of items and flavors but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it tasted. Overall, I was happy with this ANA flight. The seat was a bit narrow but I was happy to see an actual reclining seat. I was also glad to see they have improved their catering since my last flight with them. Their food used to be one of my biggest complaints but it looks like they have stepped up their game a bit. So now my only complaint with ANA is their mediocre movie selection. If you're into Japanese movies and Anime, you will be happy but everyone else will long for a bit more entertainment. Yelp
I've been a loyal JAL customer for ten years and always recommended them to my friends who were traveling to Japan or Korea. I recently tried booking a flight at the JAL website. Two economy roundtrip tickets to Japan costing nearly $3,300. When the seat selection page came up, I was denied access to the seats. I found out through their horrible customer service that economy ticket holders no longer could choose their seats in advance until 24 hours prior to take off time. Basically JAL adopted the same policy that Southwest Airlines and other regional carriers have been using. Free-for-all seating when that 24 hour mark starts. What a huge disappointment. I actually kind of felt betrayed. I went over to ANA (All Nippon Airlines), a competitor to JAL. Their ticket price was comparable to JAL and as a economy ticket holder, I can pick my seats in advance!!! I purchased the tickets from ANA. Sayonara JAL!

Yelp
After the Hell on Earth that was United Airlines on my way to Japan, I will say that ANA was truly the saving grace of the trip when it came to traveling back home. The polar opposite of United. Professional and punctual. The planes left on time and we actually got to our location early! That's what I'm talking about. Every seat has it's own TV so you'll have plenty to watch if you so choose. Sure the programs are censored, but it sure beats having to look at a shared TV with 50 other people. Also the food is pretty good for airplane food. It may not be gourmet, but it sure is eatable. If you're going to Japan, go ANA. Mark my words though, DO NOT go United. You'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Yelp
Terrible experience at Haneda Airport with ANA agent Chika Niida on a flight to Vietnam. They demanded to see the boarding pass for my flight inbound to Japan a week prior. I don't keep my boarding pass, and I couldn't produce it. Why, on earth, do they need to see my boarding pass for my flight from SFO to Haneda? I flew in on United Airlines, but it is also a Star Alliance customer, and we had booked on United an entire "Around the World" fare. Agent Niida refused to get a her supervisor, so we started to record everything on our cell phone. She asked me to stop, and I refused. So only then did she go and get her supervisor. He seemed quite shocked that we were standing there, with a completely valid reservation, a visa issued by Vietnam for our trip, and agent Niida had refused to issue our boarding pass. He asked me to stop recording, and I told him I would when he issued our boarding pass. So, he issued our boarding pass, and I stopped video taping everything on my phone. What kind of airline won't issue a valid ticket until you threaten to post a video on YouTube. It was just crazy.

Yelp
2nd time Flying with ANA and 1st time fully flying with them exclusively. The first time, I had a shared flight with United and I try very hard to make sure that this time, there's no shared flight with United. SFO-TYO 777-300ER | TYO-KLIA 787 | BKK-TYO 787 | TYO - SFO 777-300ER As part of the Star Alliance Gold Member, I got to experience lounges in SFO, Narita Tokyo, and, Bangkok. ANA lounges in Narita is awesome. Uses two different ones on the way there and back. Both were excellent and they even serve good quality sushi. The one in SFO was United Club and it's probably one of the worst lounges I've been to. The Thai Airway lounge in BKK was also nice. SFO - TYO Flew on their 777-300ER with configuration of 3-4-3 in Economy. This is the first time flying with a top Asian Airlines with that configuration. I think it's because ANA share a lot of flight with United. Most of the good airlines have 3-3-3 which have more space per seat. 10' TV with movies, USB charging and leg rest. Food option was great and they had cold soba as an appetizer. Really good food. The trey is sticky non-slip so your food and cups doesn't slip or move around. You know how amazing that is? That means you don't have the trey sliding, cups sliding around in your trey and might pour on you. The only thing that was ehh was that we were delay for about an hour. TYO - Kuala Lumpur Flew on their 787 Dreamliner. My first time and it was amazing. Seating was 3-3-3 and it had more room. Sat in the front row with more leg room. The ride was smooth and we arived on time. New TV screen with good options for movies. I pretty much slept the whole way there beside waking up to eat. BKK - TYO Flew on the Star Wars 787! It was amazing with the Star Wars theme and ambient lighting. Service and food was good as usual. TYO - SFO Stayed in Tokyo for 2 days. Been 3 years since I've been back to Tokyo so it was nice eating some real ramen, great sushi, and stuff you can't find in the States. Check in at Narita was nice, and there's nobody at the Business check in. There's even a Star Alliance Gold gate so you can go pass security faster!! What a nice surprise. I even got upgraded to the front row so I had more leg room. Sat next to a couple with a baby son. He was great the whole flight and mostly slept. Overall, definitely one of my favorite airline and I will definitely use them again because I would want to stop by Japan again. It's one of my favorite country and I hope next time, I'll get to stay a bit longer. It's nice to pay a bit more but fly with a great airline that provide top notch service, great amenities, awesome lounges and all of the little perks.

Yelp
This is a review of travel via ANA (All Nippon Airways) from Singapore to the US and back. This was a Business Class flight. The flight consisted of four legs: Singapore to Tokyo Tokyo to San Francisco Los Angeles to Tokyo Tokyo to Singapore For the most part, the staff was very helpful. The process of checking in at both Changi and LAX went very smoothly. The staff was very good. It was quick and efficient. On board the flights, all of the flight attendants were polite, professional, and effective. They check often to insure the flight is going well. The flights between Tokyo and Singapore are standard Business Class with side by side seating. The seats are wide and comfortable. These seats do not recline flat. There are nice entertainment systems available. The flights between Tokyo and the USA are newer isolated Business Class seats. These are compartmentalized to provide more privacy. They recline to a flat position. However, the "cubby hole" for extending your legs and feet into is very small. I found that even slight movements led to hitting my shins on the edge. I am tall (6 ft 4 in). One again, there are very good private entertainment systems with a wide range of media options (western and eastern). (One note - For traveling alone, these seats are great. However, for traveling with someone, these seats do not really provide the ability to sit together and share the flight experience or conversation.) There were two hiccups was with my layover in Tokyo. The first was with my flight to San Francisco. There was only a one hour layover. We landed on time. There is a bus from the plane to the terminal. Once we arrived, we were led into a very small security area. There were only two security scanners and the line was extremely long. While there was an ANA staff member present, this process was in total disarray and none of us thought we would make our connecting flight. I did just barely make it though. On my return flight from Tokyo to Singapore, there was a 45 minute to 1 hour delay in taking off. This time was not made up in the air. So, a very late arrival became an even later arrival into Singapore. Food is always an important element of long flights. The food in Business Class was relatively good and we were fed often. For each meal, there is a Japanese offering and a Western cuisine option. There were snacks available at all times. They also offered a wide range of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). These are links to photos of some of the entrées. I've also uploaded other miscellaneous food photos from these flights. http://tinyurl.com/a2yf7fy http://tinyurl.com/armkoby http://tinyurl.com/aynkq5u Both there and back, my luggage arrived safely. Overall, ANA provided a fine flight experience with very good service. While they may fall a bit short of the excellence provided by Singapore Airlines, they are a great option for longer flights to and from numerous destinations in Asia. I would have no issue flying on ANA again.

Yelp
Wonderful, wonderful service. They went out of their way to help my elderly mother be comfortable, and I will forever be grateful. ANA and JAL are by FAR the best airlines!!!

Yelp
Too, too hot in the aircraft!! We traveled in business class, full-flat seat. I was expecting to sleep all the way, but it was too hot and both my husband and I woke up every 15 minutes sweating. Spring and Summer. I want my money back. My friend said winter is the same way. While we were sweating like crazy, Japanese people were wearing jacket and covering themselves up with a blanket... If you are in Japan, you will see a lot of people dressed in long sleeves and long pants during the 100 degrees 100% humidity days. They are different! The service is the best, but I just can't stand the temp!

Yelp
Nippon's staff are extremely rude and not helpful. We attempted to use them for an extremely important delivery for a mutibillion dollar multinational firms vehicle delivery, and they refused to release the shipment to me. I wouldn't recommend using Nippon, even if they were free. Use at your own risk.

Yelp
I found ANA to be a good airline with one major exception: I had a ticket from Nagoya to Tokyo to Seattle and I found myself staying in Tokyo longer that I had planned. I called ANA and told them that I would not be getting on the Nagoya to Tokyo flight since I was already in Tokyo, but I would still be getting on the Tokyo to Seattle flight. They said that unless I pay them 12,500 yen ($120), that I would not be allowed to get on my flight from Tokyo to Seattle. They considered that to be changing the ticket. I didn't want to change anything. I was simply telling them that I was going to skip one flight but take the other. This was absolutely ridiculous, but even after extensively talking to managers, they refused to budge one inch over their stance. I felt like I was being held hostage in Tokyo over 12,500 yen when me NOT getting on the Nagoya to Tokyo flight actually saved ANA money! The fact that they charged me for not getting on a domestic flight was outrageous, but apparently ANA provides very poor customer service when it comes to your wallet, without so much as an apology or trying to understand your situation. ANA doesn't provide true customer service--they follow rules.

Yelp
I took ANA fligt from Tokyo to Houston in Janyary 2019. When I arrived Narita airport, I got severe motion sickness. I vomitted and felt dizzy and weak. I talked to the staff at the boarding gate to seek for help. They successfully arranged the seats to save three seats for me so that I can lay down on the plane. While I was on the flight, the flight staff checked up on me every a few hours and offered help. They also took my temperature to see if I got a fever. I felt very grateful for being taken care of by ANA staff. They are very considerate and they showed excellent service. It is my first time to take ANA flight, and it is the best experience I have ever had with flights.

Yelp
I flew business class from SFO to Narita to Singapore round trip. Pros: + One of the best airplane foods. Awesome Ippudo ramen at request. + Flat folding beds. + Very attentive and kind staff. + Maguro sushi served at their airport lounge. + They are part of Alliance network so you can use miles. Cons: - Our Narata transfer involved packing passengers with their luggage into a hot and humid bus to reach the gate. -Their mobile app either stalls or crashes. It's a nice way to get to Asia if you like Japanese food.

Yelp
Great flight, very very poor customer service. Plane was only half-sold but ANA was not allowing other Star Alliance members (United, Asiana) to purchase any tickets for this flight. What a crappy business strategy. Will be complaining to Star Alliance.
google avatar

FLICK R.

Yelp
ANA used to be my favorite airline. Here is what changed; 1-They only allow one bag to be checked in. 2- Their mileage program is a scam. They wont let you use your earned miles unless they cant fill a flight which means you can only use them on flights where they have to fill a seat . You can purchase a seat but cant use your miles.... WTF? Tried to contact a supervisor through customer service but was refused. E-mail to ANA headquarters has gone un-answered. 2.5- When you use your earned miles for a flight, they charge your a fuel tax! Around 500 dollars to Japan...WTF? 3- Their SFO to Japan flight has been taken over by people using it to transfer from Japan to India. Flights are very crowded and noisy. They stewardesses are run ragged by the multiple requests and people not sitting in their assigned seats. I will be flying JAL or an American carrier from now on.

Yelp
ANA is my favorite Japanese airline. Actually they're my favorite airline overall. This time they were especially nice. I mistakenly packed a bottle of wine in my carry-on luggage. When I went back to the counter to check my carry-on, they offered to check the wine only in a special box, free of charge. Really amazing service. The flight itself was packed but the flight attendants do their very best to make everyone comfortable. The food in coach isn't spectacular, but it is higher quality and more nicely presented than other airlines. And the mindless movie entertainment is of course, free. Thanks to ANA for getting me, and my wine, to Japan safely :)

Yelp
We flew ANA Airways from SFO to Narita in economy class -- 11 hours there, 9 hours back. Here's a breakdown of the trips: 1. Entertainment: Each person has a personalized screen with movies, games, tv shows, music, and flight status. They provide you with a set of quite uncomfortable headphones. The variety of movies wasn't bad; some new, some old movies, a few in a different languages; maybe 20 movies total. They had the whole first season of 24 under TV shows and not much else. The games were only entertaining for a bit, but I could play Tetris against my sister sitting next to me. 2. Food: Both ways, they served us two meals. One of the meals we had a choice between two options (e.g. ginger pork, teriyaki yellowtail), and the other had no choice. The meals came with an...eclectic mix of foods both eastern and western influenced like 1) a side of soba and seaweed, 2) a side of tuna salad or undressed tortellini and 3) rice and pork as the entree. The food was ok, not bad, but still airplane food. The best part was the mini Haagen Dazs to finish off the meal with. They passed out little asian rice crackers as snacks instead of peanuts, yum! They always provided a hot towel before each meal. And alcohol is free! 3. Service: The service was attentive and usually very accomodating. They often walked slowly up and down the aisles with magazines, newspapers in different languages, green tea, orange juice, or bananas. They were also responsive to the 'come here' button that was available on each person's controller at each seat. 4. Seating: I was comfortably seated in a center aisle seat, happy to find that the headrest bends forward on either side so I dont end up leaning on someone next to me if I fell asleep. There's ample space in the above cargo bins for your carry-ons. I'm short, but I had plenty of leg room! Overall, it was a pleasant plane ride, as pleasant as a plane ride can be :P The way back had a bit more turbulence, and more crying babies, but not much the airline could've done about that. The announcements were always made in Japanese first, then in hard to understand English. Despite that, I wouldn't mind flying with ANA again.

Yelp
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of flying to Japan. My trip was arranged by Japanese colleagues who invited me to present on forensic nursing in their country. What an incredible delight it was to fly on this Asian carrier. From the moment I arrived at SFO until I deplaned at Narita, it was a trip to savor. U. S. carriers definitely need to take lessons in customer service, attentiveness, and manners from their Japanese counterparts. The 777s were clean and neat, flight attendants were most gracious throughout, there was constant cabin service, meals were more than adequate and quite delicious, there was a nice snack station set out with beverages, bananas, cookies, candy bars, rice crackers for munching on during the flight, and the individual seat videos had a wide selection of music and video entertainment. I needed a wheelchair and the ANA staff were so accomodating in this requirement as well. I couldn't have been happier with my first experience with this outstanding Japanese airline and hope I will have the opportunity to fly them again. Kudos to ANA.

Yelp
I've been using ANA exclusively for my trips to Asia for the past two years. Even though their tickets tend to be on the expensive side, compared to other airlines on the SFO-NRT route, the service and experience you get make up for it. Last January, I took a trip to Korea and Japan and was on six different ANA flights and navigated through four different airports in a span of three weeks. Since my first trip on ANA in May 2005, I have differently noticed their product and service has improved dramatically on the SFO-NRT-SFO sector. In Economy class, you get your own personal on-demand screen with a wide-selection of movies, shows, games, airshow map to make the 11 hour flight to Narita go by quickly. Their newer 777-200ER and 777-300ER aircraft have new seats and a new digital AVOD video system which have a much clearer picture than the analog SkyMaster system on their older 777-200ERs. I've been told the new system is the same one being deployed on SQ. Their food selection usually consist of two choices and the cabin attendents will hand you a card where you can choice which entree you want. After lunch, you'll see cabin attendents running around with this silver, space-age looking rectangular bag. They were actually servingHagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert. A very nice touch! The cabin attendents were friendly and helpful. Although, depending on the flight you are on they can be very robotic as well. On my HIJ-HND flight, one guy obviously was not paying attention to the safety video. He put his suitcase in the aisle thinking it was okay. As we were about to depart, a cabin attendent noticed it. She ran to his aisle grabbed the briefcase and placed on the seat next to him and secured by fastening the seat belt around the suitcase. In terms of language barriers (if you don't understand or speak Japanese), the cabin attendents made announcements both in Japanese and English. However, on domestic sectors I've flown the ground staff may not make annoucements in English.

Yelp
We booked united but the actual airline was ANA. We were pleasantly surprised. We enjoy the yummy Japanese meals which are bento style. On the way to Japan, we were in the middle aisle which were four seats in a row. We noticed the seats had more leg room which was comfortable. There was also a footstand. They provided nice pillows and blankets as well as headphones. The movie selection was very nice. There are also games on the touchscreen monitor. On the way back we had seats that had no one in the front, we had plenty of legroom and had an even more comfortable ride. However the armrest was fixed so we had less seat width. Plenty of overhead space. Of note if you are vegetarian, be sure to let them know before you fly so they prepare vegetarian entree for you. If you didn't know like me, I was still able to pick out the vegetarian parts which was filling enough. They also give a bottle of water for the flight. The on-air wifi is a waste. The internet was super slow and glitchy. Not usable at all. Would not recommend. Also the wifi at the terminal was very spotty as well.

Yelp
I decided to take ANA this year after a disappointing trip on JAL last year. I was not disappointed! It was sooo much better in terms of service and of course the FOOD. We had a choice of international or Japanese food. On my return flight on JAL we had only one choice-a ham and cheese sandwich. Of course that did it for me. No more JAL :O)

Yelp
Service on ANA continues to decline, despite the windfall profits all airlines are making now that the price of fuel has dropped to less than half of what it was two years ago, while fares have remained the same or gone even higher. This time, beverages were only offered twice (on the 10 hour flight to Tokyo), instead of the customary once an hour - at one point, I walked up to the galley to ask for a drink of water. Self-service is clearly the future of air travel. I feel this more acutely on ANA since the service USED to be impeccable - like a fine restaurant. Now it feels like busy cafeteria.

Yelp
Sucks on reservation and Customer service! This is our 1st time taking Ana and was pretty excited on the upcoming 787 experience. However, it's a total disappointment for several reasons even before we can fly with them: 1. I booked the ticket on Orbtiz 9month prior to our departure. Early enough, right? The pre-seating assignment was never open and randomly put family of 4 at 4 different spots. When I call ow (3month prior), I was told the seats were all taken. The seats were never open, man! The rep gave me the 'peak' season crap. I checked the pre-assignmet every month for 6 months already. They told me to check again 24hr prior to departure . What is my chance? 2. The phone waiting time is average 30min. I tried 3rd time, finally, someone picked up. Instead of listening to my needs and inquires, the rep just could not stop blah blah and reading off her 'bible' that all my inquires couldn't be done. What kind of customer service is this ? 3. This is a co-shared flight with UA. So basically, these 2 airlines just kicking balls on my upgrade request ( I was inquiring how much I should pay, not even ask for free upgrade). At the end, I was told that I have to cancel my entire booking and rebook. What the hell? If it's already 'sold out' 9 month ago (per the rep), what is the chance I have with 3 month prior? I am really disappointed with Ana's booking experience and customer service, will try to avoid for future travel. Really annoying experience!

Yelp
I took a flight from Chicago to Tokyo yesterday and the service was impeccable. From departure to landing, the staff had smiles all throughout and were ready to help instantly. They surprised us with desserts as a gift for our honeymoon, we were so touched by the thoughtfulness and hospitality. Thanks ANA!

Yelp
I just returned from Manila on ANA. I will agree with the previous reviewer's observation about the negative reviews being suspect. In fact I am of the opinion that they are more than suspect. I think they may be fakes. There is no way this wonderful airline deserves a bad review. From the moment I left San Francisco (absolutely no delay in checking-in) in January to the moment I returned yesterday this "budget" traveler was treated to a first class experience by flight attendants and customer service agents who were always cheerful, helpful and smiled all the time. The food choices were outstanding and they used real knifes and forks (not cheap plastic) on the trays. Wine was offered and that's a plus in itself. When they had to change my seat, they asked my permission first and apologized profusely. When a problem in Manila caused significant flight delays, they were on the ball and met us at Narita to help us. When we arrived in San Franciso late (again Manila International's fault) they had individual agents for each individual passenger group in transit to facilitate their passage through customs and on to their connecting flight. In fact each passenger in transit was contacted while still on the plane with an explanation of the problem. I may have an advantage of being a seasoned traveller (first trip to Manila was in1949) and regularly travel to Asia. I do understand (unlike others) that stuff beyond their control happens and that not everyone in the world speaks perfectly unaccented English. I have flown SAS, NORTHWEST, PAN AM, PHILIPPINE AIRLINES, ALEGHENNY, DELTA, NATIONAL, etc. etc. etc. I have been threatened with arrest by customer service agents (who screwed up my ticket), been told "what do you expect me to do about it" by flight attendants when I had a problem, and been ignored. I even was aboard an aircraft that caught fire on the runway. Oh yes, one of the aforementioned airlines was actually founded by a relative of mine and I still have relations working for it. However I will still give superlatives to All Nippon Airlines. All the positive remarks made by others are well-deserved. However, the thing that really impressed me was the fact that despite the fact that the layover in Narita was reduced to barely 30 minutes after the Manila problems and my luggage tags had to be handwritten the luggage still arrived intact with me at San Francisco in good order. That sure beat the "it happens all the time" when my luggage arrived two days later the last time I transited Narita on one of the aforementioned airlines. I would travel ANA again in a heartbeat. Great fare, great service, on-line seat selection and check-in. ANA can't be beat!

Yelp
I was totally impressed with the crew of Flight NH 12 Tokyo to Chicago. Excellent customer service. Smiling flight attendant .Very courteous and ready to help .I was happy. I will try to always fly with this airline.

Yelp
I am very disappointed with this airline. I have to say that Seth was great and is very pleasant to work with but please make sure to review your itinerary once you pay for it. I was sent a quote about my from San Francisco-Japan-Hawaii-San Francisco flight. He sent me a great price and dates were all correct. Once I paid for it I didn't realize that the dates were WRONG. I figured everything was fine and was very pleased with the service. One week later I get a "itinerary change" email, so I review it and noticed the dates were wrong so I double checked the original and they were wrong. Now I realize I should of reviewed it better but I just overlooked it bc there were so many connections. To make a long story short in order to change the flight (mind you its not for 7 months) they are charging me $1600 to change my Hawaii-San Fran (4 hour flight) flight. Its so ridiculous and I am very upset. Seth was nice enough to pay 60% of it but I don't think something so far in advance should have to pay this kind of penalty. Oh and they charge for infants to sit on your lap?? What is that about? I see so many great reviews on here but I will never use them again and I will just book my own flights. I am writing a letter of complaint and we shall see what happens..
