What a FABULOUS place! Small, intimate, warm, inviting… delicious food! Wonderful natural wine selection. The vibe was so special. We enjoyed every minute of it and can’t wait to go back.

Not recommended. We visited the place on Valentine’s Day, and unfortunately, the experience was on the low end of the scale. Staff is unfriendly. a. Upon entry, the waitress was absolutely unwelcoming (and no English menu was offered). b. The waiter who served us didn’t provide any recommendations regarding the food and looked like he had limited knowledge of the menu. After that, there were no specifics about the wines by the glass — it was apparently some random wine every time, with no clear indication of the price. On top of this, he was absolutely not interested in feedback about the food and didn’t ask whether we liked anything or not. Zero conversation. Food was by far the biggest disappointment. We took the tasting menu, which was around 450 DKK per person (5 courses). None of the dishes were even close to a mediocre level. Dessert was the only lifesaver. Staff didn’t even bother to change cutlery after each dish. It’s a tasting menu for a reason. If you’re doing something like that, you should know how to help your customers experience each dish without mixing flavors. Finally: After dinner, we felt really ill, most probably after the mussels or squid, both of which didn’t feel fresh. Recommendation to the owners: Pay attention to your guests and don’t let staff project their mood onto them.

Ancestrale is such a cute cozy local place tucked away from the busy street. Amazing selection of wine, super lovely service and the FOOD. Local ingredients, great taste and a lovely twist of flavour. It’s an amazing place for both menu dinner and just a nice chat over a glass of wine. Visited couple of times and always had the best time. Really really recommending.

We have just come back from the most wonderful experience at Ancestrale. We just stumbled across this beautiful wine bar on our way back from dinner in Vesterbro and were immediately drawn by the cosy atmosphere inside. The staff were wonderful - our waitress was highly knowledgeable and very friendly and welcoming. The interior was cosy and intimate, just what you need on a cold evening. We had a beautiful natural red wine by Nathalie Banes, another aspect that made this experience extra special - is that they try to stock many small independent producers. I would highly recommend this bar to anyone. The only critique I could give is that it would have been nice if there were some little complementary nibbles on the table to eat with our wine. However, overall a beautiful experience

We had a wonderful and truly special evening at Ancestrale. The small guest room made us feel at home, and the Ancestrale team made sure that all our wishes were granted. The menu was out of this world — there were so many little details that made it exciting and delicious. The wine pairing was also well thought out and the selection of wines was perfect. I would highly recommend this place — it definitely deserves a 5/5 star rating!

Impeccable fermented food with great natural wine. The waiter was great and friendly, it's the speed of service that was unacceptable. Our 5 course menu took nearly 3 hours to complete which is just too slow for me personally.

Simple and tasty, this cozy restaurant is worth a visit. The service was great and our waiter really knew her wines (all of which are natural). We did wait quite a bit for the main but it didn’t take away from the overall experience.

My husband and I stopped in for an after dinner drink and ended up ordering a bottle of wine. I didn't realize that the wine bar specializes in organic, natural wines. My husband and I prefer old world, complex red wines which is the complete opposite focus at Ancestrale, but luckily we were recommended an excellent Italian red wine. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and appreciated that we were allowed to bring our toddler. Highly recommend the cheese and brown butter appetizer.
