This definitely a local place. It reminds you of Cheers where everyone knows your name (unless you are a tourist). Burgers were great, I had a birds of view of the cook. The woman is a machine. She put out probably two dozen burgers (all custom) and not a single came back with a change request or complaint. I look forward to warmer weather when you can sit outside. Nice staff and burgers and fries galore. A must try if you are in the area.

There’s something to be said for doing something and doing it well… that would be the Anchor Bar & Grill in Superior. No host/hostess. Just find open spot and take a seat. The menu is simple: some combination of burgers and fries. And it’s a bar. They have plenty of options for what you’d expect in a WI bar. And pay cash. Since 1977 they have taken credit cards. There’s an ATM on site if you don’t have the cash on hand. And then you leave happy. It’s so simple. The food and the atmosphere are great!

Dropped in today for our first time. Nothing like a good, ole bar burger. They were very filling and inexpensive. I had the California burger with sauteed onions - so good!

Went in for lunch and was amazed by how good this place was! It is first come first serve seating and it was only like 5 minutes after we ordered that we got our food. The menu is all burgers and extremely cheap (side note it is cash only so keep that in mind before coming) the atmosphere was great also. The food was good, I really liked the burger but the fries were mediocre at best. Would go again!

What’s not to love about this amazing dive bar?! Not unlike Matt’s Bar in Minneapolis in that the burgers are awesome and it’s cash only, but with a bigger variety of options (why not Jucy Lucy)? Highly recommend to any burger aficionado!

This place is known for their awesome burgers, beer and atmosphere. The place is always busy and they do their best to keep up with the demand!

I'm all for dive bars and this is a unique bar, alot to look at. The burgers are average, homemade fries are not my favorite but there is no other choice and the rude older lady bartender made sure to point that out with sarcasm. She needs to stay home. The cook was extremely fast filling orders, hats off to her. I'll stop back because I think there is alot of history here to explore. Prices are very reasonable and potions are appropriate.

This place was recommended for their burgers. It was a great visit. I got a beer, burger, and fries for $12.50. Staff was attentive. Can’t go wrong. Be aware that it’s cash only. There is an ATM there.

We were in town visiting family and we went here for lunch one day during our stay. It's a really unique spot! The decoration is on theme and makes it interesting to see all the little details. Something important to note is this place is CASH ONLY, but they do have an ATM inside if you don't have cash on you. It was pretty busy when we arrived around lunch time, but it didn't take too long before a table opened up. Server came over right away to get drink orders, which were served quickly. We ordered and food didn't take to long at all to be served. If you need a gluten free option, you just ask for no bun, which is what I did. I had the jalapeno cream cheese burger (no bun) and a side of fries. The burger was solid, the fries were great! For the price and experience, it's definitely worth going!

So many people have been telling me to try them out, it gets rave reviews. Unfortunately I do not agree. Server and bartender did an excellent job kitchen was fast! Portions were huge, price was great. Flavor was subpar. Fries were dry and cold, no salt. I got the olive burger, I've had good olive burgers before I wouldn't put this one on the list.

Best burgers in the Twin Ports! Haven't had a burger that I don't enjoy. It's a dive bar environment so expect that type of service.

A local favorite, steeped in history, with great burgers! Served fast and hot with a smile. This spot was made famous by being featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" this is a must-visit if you're in the Superior area. The atmosphere is worth the visit, the walls are covered with local memorabilia. If you're looking for a fancy place to eat, this is not the place; but if you're looking for a unique experience, this is it. Just make sure you bring cash, credit cards are not accepted.

This place is what this place is. I've heard from many, they have the best burgers, and it's hard to disagree! The burgers were pretty damn good! Atmosphere was unique. The whole place is an experience. The beer selection was pretty good. They don't take credit cards but they accept cheques! Interesting spot... I enjoyed my visit and if I'm ever back, this would be my choice for a beer and a burger! Oh! And a lot of cheese and Wisconsin references!

Amazing huger burgers at a very reasonable price. We had the full-pound burger, a 3/4 and 2 half-pound burgers with fries and one person in our group got the grilled chees and it was under $50 with a good tip. Good place for kids if you go earlier in the day. Good place for adults at night. This is a place you go for the burgers and old school fishermans warf atmosphere. I will be back with the kids.

I really wanted to give a great review, because this place is iconic. But I've been here twice lately and it's just been ok. I got the cashew burger, which was highly recommended, Burger itself was a bit dry and my cheese wasn't melted, so all my cashews kept falling off. It was considerably better once I added pickles and mayo. The "Swiss" is Swiss like white Kraft singles, sadly. I mean, that's ok on a standard cheeseburger. And our burgers took a loooonnngg time. Like 35+ minutes. Service was minimal. My advice, look at the menu ahead and know what you want and order right away and ask for everything you might want then.

Food and prices are great. Love this place for a burger when I'm in town. I go as much as I can. It is cash only though.

I called Anchor Bar for confirmation of gluten-free options that I had read online as we are a celiac family. The person (female) that answered the phone was so incredibly rude - laughed and said, "Ugh, no!". Then she corrected herself, saying that a burger without a bun. I inquired about the fries as I had read online that they were called gluten-free. Her response? "I don't know, I don't work back there." OK.... I inquired if there was someone else I could possibly speak with that may know the GF options. She hung up on me. This was 3:30pm, they may have been busy, but I was trying to call at a less stressful time, I was kind, polite, and just trying to find a burger and fries for my celiac kids. Disappointed - as I have heard the food is good, wish I could've eaten there but a rude hostess doesn't make for a pleasant dining experience.

I was skeptical about this place but it is AMAZING! I got the grilled ham and cheese and it was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Staff was extremely busy trying to keep up but they made sure that if you needed anything that you didn't have to wait. There are nick-nacks everywhere and you see something new each time you look. Highly recommend stopping for a bite or drink if you are in the area. Bring cash, they don't take cards but you definitely cannot beat the price.

Place was solid. Quick, simple, and tasty burger. I did the blue cheese burger. Would have been nice to have crumbles on it (they used dressing) but it was a really tasty blue cheese dressing. Patty a was cooked medium well but still really juicy and flavorful. Atmosphere fits the name. The memorabilia is super cool fitting the fisherman's watering hole type vibe. Pricing is hard to beat! Great value! Def recommend!

My favorite place probably to pick from in the world honestly. just the burgers are the best i've ever had from all over. the best servers, waiters, and cooks as well, some of the nicest people. and not to mention the ambiance and atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. my bf and i brought his little brother here as a goodbye dinner and my bf is going to the army in two weeks and google maps said they were open later then they actually were. instead of turning us away, the cook and waiter actually insisted we stayed and made us some bomb a** burgers. none the less, the food is spectacular, such an affordable price thank goodness, and amazing staff. so happy this gets to be one of my go to spots.

I had heard some rumors regarding this little divey joint in the twin ports slingin' some serious burger action of epic proportions with a meager price tag. On our way back from a family vacation with my wife we wanted to stay a day in Duluth and hit up some breweries and of course some major food finds to sop up all those craft brews. It's not far to cross the bridge and hit up this fun spot. The bar itself is a cesspool of charm; cozy, inviting, and lined with nautical artifacts. It's the type of dive that you blink and you find another treasure on the wall, and with no room to spare. The menu is burgers with numerous combos and hand cut fries. I was feeling classic so I acted on it. What I ordered: Double Cheeseburger ~ two 1/3lb patties, American cheese, pickles, and onion on a bakery bun. **firstly these burgers are huge and they cook them very nicely, keeping them juicy with some pink. Secondly, I don't know how they get away with such a bargain, but I'm not complaining. This beast clocked in at about $7 and I'd gladly pay double that for it.** If you're Livin' for a delicious deal and happen to be in Superior, WI then this is your jam.

I can see why this place is packed at noon on a Monday. The food is cheap, fast and great. Burgers are huge for the price. Fun place with fun and interesting decor. Our servers was fast and friendly. Definitely a place to check out.

Good burgers. We went at shift change when the crabby older women servers were all leaving. I would recommend not going when they are working. They ignore you and are pretty rude. We always make it here if we are near Duluth.

Great dive bar burgers! If you want more than that, you're out of luck. But really, what else do you need? Smallish bar close to the port terminal on the Superior side of things. Maybe eight or ten tables total. But I sat at the bar that holds about 15. Service was right on point. Had the Reuben burger. Really liked the 1000 on the side. Had some leftover for dipping fries in. Oh yeah, get fries or forever regret it. The fries are a skin on hand cut variety. I call them state fair fries. If you're MN you know. Burger was plenty meaty. Fried onion addition was awesome. Cheese was melty and gooey. Only subtracting a point for their cash only policy. Come on, who has cash?

Stopped here on our way to Ontario for a week of fishing. Been here in years past and am happy to say we were pleased with the burgers... A/C was freezing us out though. Will come again on our next fishing trip.

Good burgers for good prices. Usually get them to go because there's no place to sit because it's so busy. Also, they don't accept credit cards, so keep this in mind!

I have nothing but good things to say about the anchor bar. From the moment you enter you can see all of the different memorabilia and can tell the location has been around for years. Pros: The beer selection was great (big fan of the spotted cow), service was okay, and they focus only on burgers. Con: The fries were okay, and the burgers were slightly dry. Overall It was not the best burger I have had, but I would recommend stopping by to experience the bar and have great drinks!

Was staying the night in Duluth just passing through.. wanted to give another DDD spot a try so we did some take out. I had super high hopes based on the menu. Super creative burger options! The 4 of us each got a burger and by the time we got it back to the camper we were starving after a long day of travel! We dug in to find the patties mostly flavorless, the bacon could have been confused with beef jerkey and the buns were pretty dry. I wish I could blame the 10 minute drive for these issues, but this was beyond that.. especially the bacon. May give this place another try as I'm hoping our experience was a one-off..

OMG.... The best burgers, the decor is so unique and the employees are so personable.... you will not believe how, with all above, reasonably priced it is! We crave their burgers when we are snowbirding! We have yet to find burgers that come close to theirs when we're out west.

This place never disappoints - the olive burger is my personal favorite and it had been a number of years since I had one - so I forgot to take a photo of it. The Anchor is a classic harbor town old school bar with cold drinks, great burgers and staff who add a ton of personality to the place. If you're in the area and like burgers - just go.

Anchor Bar is some of the best food in the Duluth/Superior area. It's inexpensive, open late, and great if all you want is simple but awesome food. I've had like six of their burgers over the years and can't pick my favorite.

Was a bit of a letdown after hearing such high praise about the place. I appreciate the cheap prices and the food was good for the price. However, myself and another party member asked for the addition of bacon on our burgers per suggestion of the waitress and neither burger came with bacon. The service was not the definition of friendly. I asked the waitress, an older woman, a question about one of the menu items and she solely stared at me without giving an answer. It made me uncomfortable. When we went to pay, the bartender did not acknowledge us for at least a minute until the aforementioned waitress asked her to help us. I asked the bartender not to charge me for the bacon I did not receive and she did not act apologetic about the error, although she did honor my request. I do not feel particularly invited to come back anytime soon.

Anchor Bar is a must visit spot when you are in the Duluth/Superior area. The place is seat yourself on a first come first serve basis. The menu has traditional options and interesting combinations. The burgers have that seasoned grill taste and the fries perfectly fried. This is a cash only place. We brought our kids. The environment was lively, but not over bearing with noise. It is a small space, so get used to being very close to those seated around you. When it is very busy, people who lurk by your table waiting for you to get up. The food is worth the wait and the drinks are cold and served up quick.

Absolutely ridiculous that they even call themselves a professional establishment. The bar was disgustingly dirty. We went in for dinner. The front area was full. So, we tried to sit in the back dining area. A waiter promptly told us that area was closed. There was no other seating available other than at the bar. While there was bar stools to sit at, the entire bar was covered in dirty dishes and other garbage. We then asked the bartender if we could sit outside at the outdoor dining area. She very rudely said, "no, I'm not coming out there to take orders or deliver food. After taking one last look around at this disgusting dump with their rude, staff, shriveled, shrewd, decrepit bar staff, we decided to cut our losses. Save yourself some time. McDonald's is better.

Best burgers in the state. Where else can you get a pitcher of beer and 2 burger baskets for about $20. Enough said. Be prepared to wait during lunch and dinner due to the tight seating setup.

Ate lunch with the family on a day trip up to Duluth from the cities, cash only so be prepared or expect to use their atm. Super small place lots of character and super quick service. They keep customers rotating in and out very quickly. The whole family enjoyed the burgers a lot. Great selection, we will for sure keep it in mind for future trips up north!

Yum! Greasy bar food is this place's specialty. And they have several offerings of burgers that looked so good, but I was only going to have room for one. I went with the Reuben and I was satisfied. I almost went with the jalapeño cream cheese burger but my lunch mate ordered that and I'm a firm believer that ordering the same thing is sacrilege. I added fried (sautéed) onions to my burger at the suggestion of my mate and I'm glad I did. It's an especially divey joint, but the service was very friendly. Was this the absolute best burger I ever had? No. Were the fries crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside? No. Would I ever come back? Yes. But I'm going to give the jalapeño and cream cheese burger a try, regardless of whether my lunch mate orders it or not. Beware! It's a cash-only joint, so hit up an ATM beforehand!

Local favorite. Great burgers, fresh fries, at a cheap price. Inside is a history lesson, with all sorts of marine memorabilia. If you're in Superior, it's a must.

There is not 1 part of my experience that says I'd like to go back there... The burgers are cooked/steamed and smushed to death! The buns are stale and tasteless...everyone has attitude and the bartenders/waitresses act like it kills them to serve you. I saw at least 5 tables have to go to the bar to pay their bill and the energy felt like they were being scolded for doing so. Yes Thursday May 26th 2022 at 6pm

Added a new dive bar to our "must go when we are in the area" list! Great burgers, cold beer, service was fantastic. All this for a seriously cheap price! (I had the Rueben burger & loved it!)

This was great fun, and I can see why it's a tradition for our local union to visit when we have conventions in Duluth. A true dive bar except the bathrooms are actually rather nice. The tap beer selection is not huge but very good. The burgers and fries are excellent. I would put them in the top ten of what I've had. A kind of cool thing is they have beer glasses that they can fill from the bottom! Maybe I don't get out drinking much, but i'd never seen that before! It was crowded, but we managed to find seats at the bar. Service wasn't super fast, but quick enough considering how busy they were. Very economical prices too, but as everyone else says- bring cash!

Overall this was a really neat place. Really great atmosphere and the food was reasonably priced. It wasn't the best burger I've ever had but it was still pretty tasty.
