"At this point, there are a million poke places in NYC, but there aren’t too many that serve hot dogs, too. Sons of Thunder does, and they also have soft serve. But if you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for something healthier than a tube of meat on a bun. So get some poke over white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or salad. There are a few different options, like tuna and octopus, and you can also get fish tacos or a salmon tostada." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"There’s also a Sons of Thunder in FiDi, and you can get soft serve here as well. They only have vanilla, but if that’s your biggest problem at the moment, you need more problems." - hannah albertine, emma, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, matt tervooren
"Swift & Sons is a traditional steakhouse in the sense that it’s a huge space that offers the usual steaks, sides, and quality service you want in a restaurant like this. It opened in the restaurant-centric Fulton Market neighborhood that didn’t have anything similar, and Swift & Sons emanates the style and coolness of the old meatpacking neighborhood. Everything we like about a traditional steakhouse combined with everything we like about Fulton Market is a winning combination. That means great food (including wonderfully cooked steaks and seafood), friendly service, and a bustling atmosphere. Plus, there are plenty of old school touches, including a rolling dessert cart. Which, by the way, you should take full advantage of. Food Rundown photo credit: Christina Slaton 22 oz Bone-In Ribeye You obviously want a steak, but don’t cheat yourself with some sort of baby filet. The ribeye is what we normally order. New York strip is also acceptable. photo credit: Christina Slaton Cold Platter Starting with a cold platter is a good way to get the best of both worlds if your main course will be a steak. photo credit: Christina Slaton Arugula Salad Arugula, parmesan, lots of mushroom, fennel, onion, and a lemon sauce. A basic but good salad. photo credit: Christina Slaton Chilled Salmon Tartare One of the most interesting and best takes we’ve seen on salmon tartare. It’s covered in crème fraîche and charred onion before getting topped with a cold cucumber gazpacho of sorts. It all goes together extremely well. photo credit: Christina Slaton Au Gratin Potato Cheesy potatoes with country ham and caramelized onion = #1 side. Swift & Sons Surf And Turf Special If you’re a serious meat eater, then you know cap steaks are rare cuts to see on a menu. It’s a tender and lean cut, and Swift & Sons is serving it as part of their surf and turf special along with a 1½ lb lobster. It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth it if you’re interested." - Sam Faye
