Where To Go That’s Like Sweetgreen But Isn’t Actually Sweetgreen

"At this point, there are a million poke places in NYC, but there aren’t too many that serve hot dogs, too. Sons of Thunder does, and they also have soft serve. But if you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for something healthier than a tube of meat on a bun. So get some poke over white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or salad. There are a few different options, like tuna and octopus, and you can also get fish tacos or a salmon tostada." - bryan kim, matt tervooren

Swift & Sons Review - Fulton Market - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Swift & Sons is a traditional steakhouse in the sense that it’s a huge space that offers the usual steaks, sides, and quality service you want in a restaurant like this. It opened in the restaurant-centric Fulton Market neighborhood that didn’t have anything similar, and Swift & Sons emanates the style and coolness of the old meatpacking neighborhood. Everything we like about a traditional steakhouse combined with everything we like about Fulton Market is a winning combination. That means great food (including wonderfully cooked steaks and seafood), friendly service, and a bustling atmosphere. Plus, there are plenty of old school touches, including a rolling dessert cart. Which, by the way, you should take full advantage of. Food Rundown photo credit: Christina Slaton 22 oz Bone-In Ribeye You obviously want a steak, but don’t cheat yourself with some sort of baby filet. The ribeye is what we normally order. New York strip is also acceptable. photo credit: Christina Slaton Cold Platter Starting with a cold platter is a good way to get the best of both worlds if your main course will be a steak. photo credit: Christina Slaton Arugula Salad Arugula, parmesan, lots of mushroom, fennel, onion, and a lemon sauce. A basic but good salad. photo credit: Christina Slaton Chilled Salmon Tartare One of the most interesting and best takes we’ve seen on salmon tartare. It’s covered in crème fraîche and charred onion before getting topped with a cold cucumber gazpacho of sorts. It all goes together extremely well. photo credit: Christina Slaton Au Gratin Potato Cheesy potatoes with country ham and caramelized onion = #1 side. Swift & Sons Surf And Turf Special If you’re a serious meat eater, then you know cap steaks are rare cuts to see on a menu. It’s a tender and lean cut, and Swift & Sons is serving it as part of their surf and turf special along with a 1½ lb lobster. It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth it if you’re interested." - Sam Faye

In praise of Paola. We came to & Son UES to celebrate some recent work accomplishments and left delighted. We had an early reservation and were, for a time, the only guests in the space. Our server, Paola, made it feel like a private dining experience. When another table came in and abruptly left, Paola handled it with calm and professionalism. The food and drinks were excellent (burger and French dip were AMAZING, fries were crispy, espresso martini was divine) and we’re already making plans to return to try other dishes on the menu. If Paola’s manager is reading this, give her a raise! She deserves it!

The instagram images were captivating but when we arrived for our reservation i felt catfished and overdressed The dive bar front location had a host that greeted us and said someone would come out to get us and bring us back We sat waiting for 15 minutes at the bar with not much info on what the hold up was Then a guy with a gold chain came over and mumbled something incoherent and said to follow him ( not in a cool secret society kind of way but in an annoyed scruffy way) We get to cheesy hidden wall door that opened up to a small room that was fairly empty. The themed decor was nice but not at all like the images (that seem to be for the other location) But we were game and sat down to find out what all the hubbub was about The prices were extremely reasonable which restored our interest but sadly the food was mediocre and the quality of the steak was not good at all. It said prime but if you eat steak and know the difference you will be disappointed. I barely touched mine . It looked amazing but the texture and flavor did not deliver The fries were decent, the Cesar salad was creamy with undetectable anchovy with soggy parmesan crisps ( but looked appetizing) The creamed spinach was some cheesy flavorless dish with barely any spinach, The burger was a C+ , the wedge salad was clunky, and the dirty martini was pedestrian The atmosphere was weird, only one waiter who was also bartender. He was good but i didnt feel like this was a customer service forward spot. One woman dining was joined by one of the bussers we passed on the way back in the dive bar who sat at her table and stared to eat steak she had …It was weird. A woman at the table next to us was holding her fork and knife like a cavewoman. This place is great for a young person out on their first date at their first restaurant LOOKS impressive and cool in photos , but the quality and service is budget

Google
Overrall had a nice experience here. It was a cool concept but not dying to come back. Our server was very attentive and nice. Food came out pretty quickly as well. Loved my filthy martini but the food was average. carbonara Mac was mushy and the cheese cake desert wasn’t that great either. Salad was average. The burger was definitely the best part. Next time I would just ask they cook it medium as my burger was pretty rare.

Everything about this place was so amazing! We were welcomed so warmly & treated with such great service. The steak was cooked to perfection & the garlic they gave added an extra umph to it. The Mac & cheese was *chefs kiss*. An awesome experience. I can't wait to go back!

Google
It’s super cute and the food was really awesome. Plus their brunch is a great deal if you do any of the steak options. It’s not really a speakeasy and is just a back room. So delicious though definitely recommend!

Google
I went here with a couple of friends as one of them had seen that they offer an "adult happy meal" (burger, fries, drink). The burger was actually pretty good! And the "speakeasy" feel to it wasn't too hipsterish or annoying. Staff was very attentive as well. However, the dessert was truly awful. I would go here again, but I would definitely skip dessert.

Google
Fun secret room behind Mel’s Burger Bar. Just 6 or so comfortable tables, fun music, limited menu (choice of 3 apps, 2 steaks, scallops and “vegan steak”, 2 types of cheesecake) along with a curated selection of cocktails, beer and wine. The server was nice and took good care of everyone.

The service was wonderful and the staff was really nice, food was good as well as the drinks. They also have a speakeasy🥰🥰🥰

Yelp
Made a reservation on Resy for a Tuesday night. Small room tucked to the left back of Mel's. No attached kitchen so the waiter comes in and out of mels and the room feel more like an afterthought... BUT service was good and $25 Adult Happy Meal was a STEAL as it included burger + fries + cocktail of your choice (You can choose something other than the paired espresso martini). I would pass on the Caesar salads as the Parmesan crisps were not so crisp, but overall still really enjoyed the meal.
google avatar

Rolanda B.

Yelp
Really and joint this steak easy. The burger was truly medium and the Caesar salad was a surprisingly memorable part of the meal. The waitress was great and she was really attentive. The space is dark and super intimate definitely a nice place for a date or just a good time. I would definitely recommend going when they have the specials. They allow you to try the restaurant staples for a more affordable price

Yelp
I'm going to start with the positive. The server/ bartender/ do everything person was amazing. She was definitely underwater but friendly, knowledgeable, sweet and hard working. The wedge salad was okay, that's where it ends.. The "strip" was horrendous, it's barely seared, barely seasoned. It was awful, I took a little less than half home for the dog (who did enjoy it). The Mac and cheese carbonara was as expected, also bad- just over baked, poor quality cheese. The fries were probably the best thing and they serve with Russian dressing dipping sauce. The spirits are all NY distilleries I believe but the vodka was bad. It's not a real full bar back there and the poor waitress does everything. It's one of the worst meals I've ever had in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great little find in Greenwich Village. The only problem was we sat by the window, which had a draft and so it was cold. The girls night is a great by even if you get the steak. The Caesar salad was phenomenal. One of the best I've ever had. The martini was excellent. The fries were super. The steak was really well seasoned and good except it wasn't hot enough. Service was excellent. All in all a really fun night.

Yelp
This place has one of the best underrated burgers in the city. I came here for the adult happy hour deal and got a martini at the bar with a burger (medium rare) for $35 and was in my happy place. It was a cozy ambience and the bartender was friendly. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I couldn't wait to try this place! The martini's were perfect! I actually got the martini dinner. For $36 I got a steak fries and a martini! We also ordered the mashed potatoes which is a MUST! The fries were crispy and delicious! The place was intimate and perfect for a date night! I was too full to try the desserts but they looked amazing! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Solid "steakeasy" behind Mel's with quaint, cozy seating and great attentive service. The menu itself is very small - you get a choice of sous vide steak, burger, or chicken accompanied by a few sides like roasted potatoes or a carbonara. Everything is very solid although I would say that the roasted potatoes were absolutely delightful - perfectly seasoned and tender but not over cooked. The carbonara was also solid - it comes served with the egg yolk ready for you to mix in yourself. The steak was decent - the sous vide technique definitely helped to tenderize the cut more and it was decently flavorful but different from what you would get at a steakhouse. Both the burger and sliced chicken breast were standard but still satisfying. Worth stopping by for a small intimate dinner if you're in the area and looking for a bit of respite.

Yelp
*3.5 stars round down to 3* The idea of a "Steakeasy" inside of Mel's Burger Bar really attracted me to want to try & Son. The steakeasy is in the back of the restaurant on the main floor. It's a cozy room with a few tables. For the food, we got the fixed menu and got Caesar salad, the steak, and two sides (Mac and cheese and creamed spinach). I thought the steak was OK, not the best I've ever had but still good; the Mac and cheese was DELICIOUS (definitely recommend) and I liked the creamed spinach too. Lastly, for dessert we got the cheesecake. The cheesecake is what is bringing this review down to 3 stars. It tasted so oddly sour, and when we asked our waitress about it she said the chefs were trying out something new and are adding more lemon or something. Very odd and definitely didn't taste right. I liked the ambiance and we were lucky to get a booth for the two of us.

Yelp
Underwhelming experience at & Son. The place is very neat and I like the vibes. Appetizers were great and I loved the mac n cheese. Steak was 4 out of 5 stars and drinks were 5 out of 5 for the price point. Cheesecake dessert was inedible. I thought I was eating something with spoiled ingredients. Very bitter. Took one bite and didn't finish the rest. My girlfriend got a different flavor and hers was also inedible. We told the waitress and she didn't do anything to try to fix it. She just said "okay I'll get the check". I really wanted this place to be great but unfortunately it wasn't.

Olivia J.

Yelp
Yeah their Mac and cheese tastes like curdled dog crap and the unbelievable amount of black pepper on the steak doesn't fix the inability to understand spices. 0/10 so bad on food side. 2 stars because the staff is awesome and deserve 5 stars-- but chef needs some help to the point that it's gross

Yelp
This place is pretty cute! It's like a "steakeasy", small steakhouse that's located behind Mel's burger joint. It was 5 of us total and 4 of us got the steak dinner, while 1 person got the burger dinner. They all came with a starter salad (of our choosing), a side, and a dessert. Because we each ordered different salads, I got to try all of them. The simple salad I got was just okay. It felt like something I could've easily assembled at home with store bought dressing. The wedge salad was pretty good but overall I'm just not a fan of blue cheese. The classic Caesar was also alright, nothing spectacular. The steak was well cooked and came with a little tin of roasted garlic which was super tasty and melted in your mouth. Of all the sides, DEFINITELY GET THE MAC AND CHEESE. The Mac and cheese stood out and comes with an egg in the middle to make it creamier. It was soooooo good. The crispy potatoes were good too and cooked well! The creamed spinach was tasty but wasn't spectacular. I tried both cheesecakes on the menu - blueberry and Oreo, and they both came in little mason jars. I thought they were pretty good but a little sour for some reason. I thought they could've been a bit sweeter. We also split a bottle of red wine for the table which paired nicely with the steak. The ambience for dinner was cute and they were playing good music the whole time. The steakhouse itself is actually pretty small. Service was friendly and nice - only thing is we asked our server if they could put a candle in a dessert for my friends birthday and they straight up forgot to which was unfortunate.

Yelp
we went to the &sons on the UES and it was great. we used a code from an instagram page to get a free round of drinks which was so cool. they have so many options for dinner and it's a pre fixed menu. It was beautiful in there. definitely need a reservation as it's pretty small but it's worth it!

Yelp
Located on 9th Street in Greenwich Village, & Son is a not your typical steakhouse. This spot combines the atmospheres of a NYC steakhouse and a prohibition style speakeasy. This steakeasy specializes in French cooking style of sous vide. & Son is serving up the most superbly cooked steaks and burgers along craft specialty cocktails.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Let's start with the fact that the restaurant is very deceiving. I understand it's a steak, easy, and it's cute and hidden. But explain to me why I had to wait 15 minutes upfront for my table when there's only 10 tables and half of them were empty. The fact that they only had one steak on the menu, is beyond misleading, and very disappointing. The menu was nothing to gasp at. It seemed limited and boring at best. So much, that we didn't even stay and went to a real steakhouse a few blocks away. I'm willing to try their downtown location. But thank God the expectations have been lowered tremendously. Perhaps you should have a wait staff and host staff. That makes your customers feel welcome and engaged. Instead of cold.
google avatar

Robyn T.

Yelp
We came for the steak and never wanted to leave !! The service is top tier they make you feel at home and the atmosphere is warm and upbeat! The decor is stunning soooo much thought went into making this restaurant and the food is out of this world the steak melts in your mouth and the sides are just as good as the steak they all shine equally. Sooo good I licked my plates clean
google avatar

Diondra B.

Yelp
Cool speakeasy restaurant. They have great atmosphere, food and service my favorite were the dry rubbed wings.

T R.

Yelp
Our group had a really good experience here -- great environment, great drinks and great food. A really fun night. PS -- I agree with the other positive reviews. The negative one from "Paul M" seemed like an outlier but then I saw that almost all of his restaurant reviews were 1 star so I ignored it and glad I did!

Sam W.

Yelp
Poor quality meat, bearnaise had nothing to do with bearnaise, and oddly enough room was extremely cold (kept my jacket on). Wouldn't recommend
google avatar

Lara G.

Yelp
Personally really enjoyed my experience here. We did the inclusive 3 course meal in which I thought the salad, side and steak were all fantastic. The cheesecake mason jar was a bit odd but still good too. It was also great pacing between courses. We spent a leisurely 2.5 hours here as 5 people.
google avatar

Christopher H.

Yelp
Our server was nice but the place was dead empty. The food took forever to come out. We requested something sweet with a candle to celebrate the birthday gals and they brought it out first before our meal (churros) which kind of killed the appetite. The main brunch course took a reeeeeeeeeally long time to come out. We ordered pretty much everything on the brunch menu except drinks. Veggie Benedict was very salty. So was the spinach. The burger was not good. The steak was ok but the hash was cold. The French toast was alright. Cute place but definitely not worth it. Probably would have gotten faster service and better tasting food at Mel's but doubt I'd ever come back to either after this. Spending good money on not good food is definitely not a good feeling. The only reason why this is 2 stars is because our server was a sweetheart. I also tried to make brunch reservations at one of the other locations and this was the only one giving me the brunch option. I don't like giving bad reviews but I'm peeved about nearly $250 ( for 5 ppl w no drinks ) on bad food and unnecessarily long wait.

Yelp
62 West 9th St From the moment I walked up to the entrance at & Son on West 9th, I felt like I was stepping back in time (in a good way). I loved the warmth, the vibe, the architecture, the little touches like the beverage lights above the bar, the photograph of the bridges at night, the bell (haha). P.S. thank you for putting bag hooks under the bar! The main dining space itself is absolutely stunning and I couldn't get over the lounge...all the books and warm lights...reminds me of the study in Clue...or a place where Hemingway would have hung out. The steak was perfectly cooked, the fries were just right, bernaise sauce was delicious, the lobster salad was delightful (perfectly prepared), the filthy martinis...well we already know how I feel about those;) I'll finish with this, I'm so impressed and excited to visit again! Can't wait to see the final product...in the meantime, go grab a seat at the bar and get yourself the Steak Frites and a Filthy martini...you'll thank me later!

Katherine B.

Yelp
This place is absolutely awesome. First, I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were for Manhattan. The drinks, food, and ambiance were incredible, and I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the meal was when the bill came. Starting with drinks, I got the Old Fashioned as part of one of the drinks + two course meals, and it was one of the best Old Fashioneds I've ever had. I've also been dreaming about the delicious Caesar salad since my trip to this restaurant. The burger and fries were so good too. The burger was gigantic and perfectly cooked. We finished our amazing meal with the churro dessert which was one of the best desserts I've had. Most importantly, our server was incredible! I wish I remembered his name because he was awesome. The restaurant was basically empty by the time we finished our meal, but we didn't feel rushed at all. He was super kind and attentive the whole night. Can't wait to come back.

Paul M.

Yelp
This corresponds to their West Village location which cannot be found on Yelp but I am sure their Second Avenue location is similar. I typically will not leave a review without giving a venue the opportunity to fix it but made an exception here as fixing this place would require completely changing their concept and some things have to be said. We should have second guessed our choice when we walked into the only empty restaurant in NYC on a bustling Thursday night but we reluctantly stayed and certainly satisfied our curiosity as to why it was empty. The staff was very nice, the room is appealing, though there is no "speakeasy" to speak of and the dining room could use some sprucing up. Walking into the room was like walking into history and not in a positive, charming way; it was like walking into the same exact restaurant the space was (The Lion) ten years ago. The menu is awful, both food and cocktails. & Sons has not only come up with the stupidest name ever (try searching for it online) they have also successfully managed to come up with the stupidest dining concept I have ever seen. It is a "prix-fixe" steak dinner but the starters, sides and desserts are only portioned out in increments of two, so if you are a party of three or five or seven, etc.; you get shafted. Despite this, the server told us every person at the table must order an entree. That being said, you are not going to want to eat the food anyway as it is awful, not sure who thought any of it was a good idea. The starters are stale, room temperature bread service and mediocre, at best, pigs in a blanket-not sure how you even screw those up... This is then followed by your mandatory salad course, wedge was okay but had a very bizarre odor, not offensive, just noticeable. Caesar salad: inedible. Now here's the kicker...this is supposed to be a steakhouse, right? You do not have an option of how you want your steak prepared as it is only served one temperature and guess what, also terrible. We also ordered some extra supplements to the menu; the burger was one of the worst things I have ever put in my mouth accompanied by the worst French fries I have ever had! The "butter poached" lobster was terribly overcooked. No point in really reviewing the sides at this point. Desserts were also horrendous. But wait! There's more! Want to get the taste of that foul meal out of your mouth? They only serve TEN spirits, all from New York State. Margarita? NO! Your favorite vodka martini? NO! You cannot even get a blue cheese stuffed olive here! Espresso or Cappuccino? NO! Coffee only! Celebrating a special occasion and want to order a bottle of champagne? Guess what? NO! A crisp Manhattan serves with your favorite Kentucky bourbon? NOT HERE! New Yorkers don't like to be told what to do and & Sons has ticked the box on every single thing you are NOT supposed to do. You are setting up yourselves and more importantly, your staff up for failure.

Yelp
What a fun place and still not known to the hip NYC foodie crowd so book now. It's in the back of Mel's diner in a cozy, intimate room and the music makes this place. You really can't go wrong with school hip hop. The server, Hannah, was attentive and helpful. Prix fixe is a steal and the steak was cooked perfectly. We tried all three apps: salad, shrimp, & bacon. Surprisingly the salad was really good and you get the tasty bacon in it. The sides that come with the steak were solid too with the potatoes being the best. One thing to note, the cocktails were made well and priced great, but there are limited options of wines by the glass. They have several bottle options but the lowest decent bottle of wine costs $85, which is a little higher than I would have liked to pay. This is a fun place with round booth seating so you and your guests can have a fun night out.
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
Food was great for the price, Love the Prix fixe option! Our server was very kind and professional, and was taking care of the whole room by themself, it was impressive. Music was a little loud, but probably to cover up the music from the restaurant we were inside of The carbonara mac was my fav part
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
3.5 but I will round up to a 4. Went last Friday night. It was hot AF in August and the AC unit was broken. This meant that eating hot foods was less pleasurable. Loved the concept of a speakeasy inside a burger bar. The vibe in this back room is very chic with leather booths but felt like they were over compensating. The price point on this small menu is excellent for the the meals like $33 for burger main, salad, side dish and dessert. My friend ordered the steak meal for $49. It seemed silly that they were bringing out 2 salads or 2 tiny desserts on this large roller cart. The service was very attentive. They had a limited wine and beer menu. The house red bottle they offered had no taste but was complimentary through a deal my friend got. Probably would not return.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
You guys, this is just fine. They obviously just converted some back room they had to spare. Decor is decent, as is the music. It's not really super hidden/speakeasy-y. Food was fine at best. Steak had zero flavor (and like other reviewers mentioned, they didn't ask how we wanted it). Salads were diner caliber. Sides were fine. Dessert was meh. Martini was actually pretty decent. Fine overall experience, but not worth the price. I'd take tourists here, but I wouldn't go back on my own.

Ali S.

Yelp
Had a lovely date night at & Son! The food was delicious and well priced. We each ordered medium rare steaks with a Caesar salad starter, and potatoes and Mac and cheese on the side. The restaurant kindly accommodated all our allergies and dietary restrictions. For example, they made the Mac and cheese without the pork for me! The cocktails were also yummy. The vibes were fun, and I enjoyed that it was a "steakeasy" - how original! Definitely try this restaurant!

Freddyc M.

Yelp
Very special back room, service was extremely attentive and the drinks were strong. The steak was not flavorful at all though the sous vide made it tender.

Kaitlin S.

Yelp
I planned to go here for my wife's birthday. At first we were excited! Seemed like a cool place to go. We got there and each ordered our dinners. to start, my wife got the wrong salad. Which she ended up keeping because she doesn't like to be difficult. Then our main dishes came out. I got the steak and she got the burger. Both were incredibly under seasoned. I truthfully felt like I could make a better steak at home, the burger was also nothing special. The patty was also under seasoned, and the only thing saving it was the pickles and onions. The sides were fine. We got the Mac and cheese and the creamed spinach. Nothing to write home about. Then our cheesecake desserts came out. I took the first bite and found it sour and not sweet at all. It made me genuinely wonder if they forgot to put sugar in it completely. I could only eat 2 bites. It wasn't even worth trying to eat. Overall, I probably won't be back. It's a shame that something that sounds as cool as a "steakeasy" does not live up to expectations.
google avatar

Belle L.

Yelp
Had a great time here. It is small and well decorated. Service was great and we never felt rushed. The menu is small but honestly their burger was the best burger that I've had in a while. Mac and cheese was also delicious and the house wine was smooth. Definitely recommend for date night.

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Food: Under seasoned and Over rated. Drinks: Delicious Save your money and just order cocktails!

Shivam N.

Yelp
The steak was amazing but all of the sides were ass. The mashed potatoes barely had any flavor to it. Even the max and cheese tasted bland AF. Even the appetizer was bread with jam and bacon.... Wtf? dropped about $335 for 2 people, I wouldn't go back.

Toni V.

Yelp
Whoever created this restaurant isn't probably from New York City and watched a Anthony Bourdain episode about New York and they were like yeah I'm gonna make a "steak easy". Their waitress is not a waitress she is just a model she has no clue how to work in hospitality industry. Everyone loves pretty woman but this is not a date spot don't bring your date here because you're probably just going to look at her ass all night . Anyway, Like every good steakhouse usually salt and pepper your own food and there was no pepper in the pepper cracker I had to ask for pepper twice. My burger was overcooked it was well done.I got the mac & cheese carbonara which is pretty exciting because there is a poached egg on it but I was not aware of this , was not made aware By the menu or the waitress, so of course I left the mac & cheese sit and unfortunately my egg gets over cooked , it's simply just did not eat it. So that was a big disappointment. Their cocktails we're not made by mixologist but by someone in Coney Island who makes nutcrackers. Just not as strong or flavorful ( I got the Iron Lady). Truly the only really good thing there was a dirty as fuck martini, and even that was premade. The only thing that I have to say about the wine is that it's called "wine for steaks". This steak easy should be renamed steakhouse for idiots. This is not the place for a true foody.

Stephen J.

Yelp
The food, the ambience, the service were ALL great. Snuck away inside of Mel's burger bar, the space is quaint and intimate and the the service is great without being pretentious. Highly recommend

Yelp
& Son is the perfect date-night spot, tucked away in the back of Mel's Burger Bar. The 3-course prix fixe menu is a steal! My generously portioned steak was perfectly cooked, and the sides I tried (the mac n' cheese and crispy potatoes) were delicious. The bacon is INCREDIBLE. Seriously. Order it. The potatoes were a smidge garlicky, but I love garlic, so not a problem. If only I had a stronger alcohol tolerance and could've tried more than two cocktails! I tried the Miss Casanova and the Boomerang, both awesome (and strong!). Service and ambience were on point. I'll definitely be back!

Room was not as cute as it looks online. Food was awful. Could have been eating in the main mels burger area for 1/4 of the price. Not worth it at all. Sad, because I thought it was a cool idea , executed horribly. I can't believe the burger at the "fancy" part or the restaurant was that bad .... Can only imagine what the Mels burger tastes like

Yelp
this place is a cool speakeasy or "steakeasy". It's located inside Mel's Burger. Recommend to make a reservation at the restaurant. Once greeted by the host someone will come and get you and walk you through the burger joint to this cool wood wall and pushes into a really cool, leather filled bench and great dark vibe with great badass music playing. The host was so excellent, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable with everything we asked or brought up. They have a great selection of cocktails, only a handful of beer, wine selection is very small as well but very good, great selection. Theres two ways of getting the food, a la carte or the dinner special. We order the Steak dinner special for $49 and it comes with one appetizer, a choice between NY strip, cajun strip, vegan steak, or scallops for $3 more. I had the cajun steak (rare) which is 12 oz. delicious goodness. There was a nice thin cajun rub on the steak and it was so good, perfectly cooked at the temperature I wanted. The mac and cheese which is the one of the options for side was amazing, so creamy and cheesy. My girlfriend had the scallops which were great but if ordering alone with no side it's not worth the price you pay for them. Don't get me wrong, the scallops were amazing but you're better off buying the steak for that price. We also had the creamy spinach as one of the sides, it was so creamy and delicious. The dessert we ordered for the two of us was the oreo cheesecake and it was the perfect way to end the dinner. Small but it was the perfect size for use to share. The cheesecake was so delicious and it balanced out perfectly with the crumbled oreo cookies. & son also has a handful selection of whiskey, i had the Kings county peated bourbon neat. it was rich, smooth, sweet fruit flavor to it, it was perfect. overall great experience at & son. Highly recommend it for a dinner date, by yourself, or if you just want to enjoy a delicious steak with a nice glass of whisky with a friend. I will be back here agin soon.
