Novus Ordo Seclorum: 14 Places to Unearth Masonic Secrets

"Freemasonry is renowned for its discretion, keeping in secret their opulence, but the Andaz Hotel’s Masonic Temple became too secret for its own good and was forgotten for years until it was surprisingly found during later construction. Built adjacent to London’s Liverpool Street train station in 1884, the Great Eastern Hotel was one of the city’s original railway hotels. Usually impressive in size, these buildings were designed as a symbolic demonstration of rail transport’s wealth. The luxurious hotel enjoyed the swanky privilege of owning its own track inside the train station for daily provisions delivery, including sea water for the hotel’s salt water baths. However, when the tourism industry boomed, hotels of all sizes sprang up across the city and cars gradually replaced trains as the primary mode of transport. Sadly, the Great Eastern soon fell behind the times and languished as a dusty old mansion. However, almost a century after its opening, the Great Eastern Hotel found a new destiny through designer Terence Conran, who decided to polish the landmark by getting rid of the outdated interiors and giving the building an ambitiously chic makeover. However, during the restoration, engineers are said to have noticed a few discrepancies in the blueprints. Then, like something out of an adventure movie, they removed one of the walls to find a wood-paneled antechamber and, on the other side of a studded double door, a vast and incredibly refined masonic temple. Built in 1912, this forgotten chamber is a pure jewel of luxury, and probably one of the most grandiose Masonic temples in London. Neoclassic in style, the windowless room is known as the “Grecian Temple.” The opulent room includes an organ, hand-carved mahogany chairs, bronze candelabras on claw feet, and no less than 12 different types of marble used in the floor, columns, and walls. The celling, a blue and gold dome, bears a five-pointed “blazed star” and zodiac signs. The room conforms to the classic Masonic temple setting with a checkerboard floor and discreet esoteric insignias. A Masonic lodge in a hotel sounds a bit inappropriate nowadays, but in the 19th century Great Britain it  was unusual but not unheard of. At the time, being part of a fraternal organization was very popular among gentlemen, and railway hotels developed a large variety of facilities to become more competitive. Having a Masonic lodge was a plus if you wanted to attract a certain class of patronage. In the case of the Great Eastern Hotel, freemasons helped to construct the hotel, and they were secretly given a room that enabled them to gather for rites.  Today the hotel is part of the Hyatt Hotel Group, and the Great Eastern Hotel is known as the Andaz. The Grecian Masonic Temple is still there and open upon reservation." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Andaz London Liverpool Street (London, UK) 19 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Andaz Liverpool Street, London is a rare beast, a hip hotel right on top of Liverpool Station — one of just a handful of lodgings in the Square Mile, bucking the trend that generally sees City boys and girls (and their guests) flee for points westward as soon as the closing bell rings. And despite its railway-hotel heritage, it’s had quite an upgrade, its interiors proof that modern design plays as well with financiers as it does with creative types." - Tablet Hotels

A welcome drink was offered upon our arrival, the hotel has a signature scent as you walk through the door (nice touch). The staff were helpful and attentive, the rooms were spacious and clean, with a free minibar included within the room, limited to soft drinks, hot drinks, biscuits and crisps but still great to have available. ||The buffet breakfast was well presented with additional a la carte options with a nice addition.||Would highly recommend for a compfortable stay with access to numerous tube lines literall around the corner.

I'm afraid I'm not impressed with my stay and considering the high price i was left disappointed. We stayed for a night last Saturday and were exited as the reviews seemed fantastic. The staff were very polite and professional. Once in our room (304) on the surface it seemed perfect. Unfortunately reality.. The bathroom: every time you run the water or use the toilet an awful plumbing sound would screech which would last a long time and you certainly couldn't sleep through it. The large bed - great - but it's 2 mattresses put together and one side was very uncomfortable and uneven. Then to find a stain on the pillow cover was very disappointing indeed. I reported all this to the main reception. I was then seen by the supervisor and though very apologetic was not able to confirm what if any compensation. He took my email and said he would contact me. A couple of days later i was offered apologies and points to use at any hotel.. I replied that for me this was not good enough and money off this stay or a much better gesture of this hotel would be to comp the night stay. That would certainly make we want to come back and recommend this hotel. I have been charged a high price of £382 for this negative experience (as yet have never even been sent a bill). The only positives are the politeness of staff and breakfast.

Perfect location for us, tube station on your doorstep easily accessible to all major attractions. Breakfast was tasty and well presented. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Drinks and canapés 6-7pm was a bonus we enjoyed just Prosecco. We would definitely return.

If you enjoy a quiet place and having a drinks with friends, you may request to sit down and get your drinks on the common area like the photo shown. If you fancy a drinks in a classy bar with your loved one, you also could be staying on the ground floor bar. Their room is tidy as you can see in photo. Also could be nice to have fun of English billiards together. Great location just beside Liverpool Street station. Comfy stay in the hotel room located in central London.

One of the best hotels we have been to. The rooms may be small. The views from room sometimes compromised. But the hotel makes up with excellent staff , historical architecture, excellent bar and Japanese restaurant. And kind of happy hour at 6 in lobby with DJ and free music. Close to Liverpool station and you can walk to spitalfields market.

Great service. Our room was not ready at the time of check in and they were really apologetic and brought us over a drink and coffee. The location was amazing given the close proximity to the station and several bus stops. There is great food nearby. The room was beautifully decorated. The gym, though a beat hard to navigate to initially was well stocked.

Google
Modern, centrally located hotel. Staff was lovely at check in and offered a welcome glass of Prosecco. We were able to do some sight seeing with the tube station right next door being a nice convenience. Well appointed room, while small as you may expect in London (we had a standard king). Breakfast service was a bit slow but food was tasty. Would stay again.

Extremely convenient location next to Liverpool station. We were able to take the Elizabeth Line directly from Heathrow. Ton of great restaurants, pubs, and markets nearby. We especially enjoyed walking through Spitalfields market and Box Park. Ryan was also a great host and provided lovely recommendations for nearby restaurants. Room was spacious for London, beds were comfy and was a cozy stay.

Yelp
The main caveat to this review is that I did pay top dollar for this. However, I also budgeted for this and took other items into consideration, such as being walking distance to/from the office. Being a solo traveller made this decision easier, but obviously I'd think twice if I was coming with family..... With that said.... The Andaz is a Hyatt concept that incorporates boutique + swankiness. I was looking for that style over the years and I knew I came to the right place instantly. I was only here 3 nights. I got a king room, which was enough space for me (and I'd figure for a couple too). There's a desk to your side, which I ended up using mostly to charge devices. USB devices are plenty, though it's worth noting that USB-C will require this place to reconsider the ports. It worked out for my old iPhone 11, but I recently upgraded after coming back. My room also overlooked the corridor, which I was okay with since I wasn't in the hotel room that much. The bathroom is a decent size and did the job for me. The shower flow was pretty good and you got more than enough light. Maybe they needed an exhaust fan, but that might just be a thing in the US. My room offered 2 complimentary water bottles that were re-filled daily at your request along with any soft drinks (including apple/orange juice!) and snacks. I took advantage of the snacks as well as the water & apple juice. Additionally, I paid for the free breakfast. The buffet had a ton of options and there were options for ordering too. I opted for the buffet due to time, so I took advantage of the English tea + the array of different options from chia seeds to yogurt to hash browns to scrambled eggs. I tried to keep it different every day, minus the tea and a bit of cheese every day. There's more than plenty options. Some other cool perks include an evening complimentary glass of wine between 5-7pm. I only took advantage of that on my first night as I was hanging out with family on the other evenings. They also have a nice gym and shower area too, which I took advantage when I changed my clothes and freshened up after arriving straight from Heathrow. They were nice enough to keep my bag safe during the day before check-in. They even put my bag in the room when I arrived in the evening. Just first class service. I wish I took more advantage of the bar and lounge areas, but I was just out and about. If you want to treat yourself or your significant other nicely and have some money to splurge, I'd look into this place.

Yelp
I stayed here in December 2023 for a work trip. I arrived quite early my first morning and needed a shower / refresh before heading into the office. They took me down to the gym / spa facilities and pointed me to a section of small shower rooms. I was so thankful they allowed this! Unfortunately, the room was poorly maintained - the toilet was disgusting (I won't go into details) and the shower supplies (shampoo / conditioner) were barely filled. I forged on but would recommend checking the shower room you choose before committing. Once my room was ready, they called me and I took a little break from the office to move my bags into my room and get settled. My room immediately gave me a really bad vibe - it felt like a hospital room and the energy was super off. I'm not usually a person who feels things... but there was no denying something bad had gone down in this building. I had sleepless nights, weird visions, and couldn't WAIT to get out of there. I was too embarrassed to ask for a new room -- I didn't want to have to explain what I was feeling -- so I spent as little time as possible in this space. The check in staff was so lovely - as was most other staff I encountered during this trip. You cannot beat the convenience of this hotel either. I likely won't be coming back due to my interesting experience in the room and the gross toilet, but I know others who I work with love staying here :)

Yelp
My family stayed here for a week recently and had a wonderful time. This hotel is top-notch and conveniently located, with plenty of transportation and dining options. The room we selected was spacious and clean, with a minimalist but functional design. Having restocking of complimentary snacks, coffee, and drinks with a good variety was very convenient. We had complimentary breakfast included throughout our stay, so we started each day well fed. The items available at breakfast are sure to please everyone. Every evening there is complimentary wine and snacks in the lobby, which is a fantastic space to relax in. Of course, no stay is perfect. We had issues with hardware in our room, which was quickly remedied. The service from all the staff we interacted with from the desk to the restaurants was pleasant and helpful. They are missing some amenities I'm used to at a 5 star, such as an on site spa/salon, and a dedicated concierge desk. However, I did request information which was done quickly and thoroughly.

Yelp
ROOM 4/5 The hotel is located in a historic building on a busy street in Liverpool but the interior is modern and chic. Our room was not the spacious however was definitely adequate. Bathroom has one sink, a bathtub and a separate shower stall. One biggest complaint about the room is that the shower space was very TIGHT. And because the shower stall was elevated on a bit of a platform, the distance between the shower stall where you stand and the shower head itself was not the greatest, meaning if you are over 6 foot, you may run the risk of hitting your head on the shower head! The other thing I noticed is that it takes some time for water to go own from the sink. As the water goes down, the pipes in the wall make a loud and honestly funny "gurgling" sound. Sometimes we hear this sound from inside the walls even when we're not using our sink - I assume it's the room above using theirs. One thing to note is that the towel rack is nicely heated, so when you take towels off, they are warm! Quite a nice tough there. AMENTIES & SERVICE 5/5 Fantastic service. When we first entered the room, the housekeeping inspector was still in the room (oops!). The hotel front desk called later to apologize for the incident and followed up by sending a bottle of wine with a hand-written apology note to the room. We very much appreciated the gesture! Other perks include a complimentary mini bar (stocked with 2 bottles of sparkling, 2 bottles of still, 2 cans of coke, 1 bag of chips, 1 bag of cookies, and 2 bottles of juice daily). Breakfast was included with our stay. While the breakfast buffet was not the most impressive spread, it was definitely enough (hot station with eggs, sausage, bacon etc) and a continental breakfast section with yogurt, fruits, and pastry. There is also complimentary happy hour from 6-7pm daily. It's nice to be able to come back to the hotel and pick up a nice glass of wine with some appetizers before heading back to the hotel room. Wifi also included and fast.m LOCATION 5/5 Right next to the Liverpool station. Convenient! Lots of cute restaurants nearby for a quick bite. Eataly is right across the stress. There are Boots pharmacy and Tesco (grocery) right downstairs as well. Found the cutest cafe (BloomsYard) right by the hotel (3 minute walk)!

Yelp
Among the Hyatt brands, the Andaz is my favorite. And the Andaz London was the first ever Andaz property, which makes it special. I have stayed here on about half a dozen occasions, and have since also stayed at the Andaz properties in New York City, West Hollywood, Maui, and Scottsdale. The service and hospitality at the Andaz brand hotels are consistently congenial, and this particular property remains my favorite hotel in London. I always receive a warm and cordial welcome upon my arrival. When I do not fancy anything on the room service menu, the hospitality team here caters to my whims and agrees to have food of my choice from one of the onsite restaurants delivered to my room. On that note, I must recommend the fish & chips from Lady Abercorns Bar and Kitchen. When I was here before COVID, the concierge took me on a tour and showed me the old Masonic Temple that had been discovered inside the hotel during one of the renovation projects. I will continue to stay here on my future trips to London, and have the Andaz team continue to pamper me.

Yelp
The location: right in the middle of liverpool station, matter of fact, its attached to the station. Less than a block you are there, hotel and station. There are lotsa restaurants, bars, public transportations and taxi's are lined up on the side of the hotel. There is a supermarket just across the street and a bank. The hotel staff and hotel Amenities: while checking in, I was greeted and given a glass of champagne. The hotel is chic and funky !! The hotel's staff are nice, accommodating, although a bit on the timid side. The hotel amenities includes a japanese restaurant, a wine bar, a cafe bar name rake's ( day time) and a bar ( night time) A gym ( which I didnt managed to use cause I'm always out and about, lol.) A spa services which includes, massages ( deep tissue, holistic, aromatherapy) facials, mani/pedicure, hair and make-up. They also have a steam room complete with locker rooms, towels, individual shower and changing areas, blow dryers, with conditioners, shampoos and body wash. The hotel also have a happy hour time from 5p - 7p every day at the lobby bar and serve both white/red wines. The hotel offers everyday breakfast rate. They gave me a 25% off the breakfast rate one time, which is a nice touched. What's not to like about this hotel. Go for it !

Yelp
Loved our stay at the Andaz London. Wonderful top notch upgraded hotel with great staff. Our room was spacious with free mini bar. Lobby is eclectic and hotel is a fun overall experience. The Andaz is located above the Liverpool train station, despite its railway history the beautiful and significant modern upgrades are great, but really not apparent from the outside, the traditional red brick facade hasn't changed much since 1800's. The Eastway Brasserie restaurant for breakfast is a delight. The Andaz is within walking distance of cool pubs and cafes, vintage clothing boutiques and high end shopping, plus the eclectic art/shopping of Brick Lane. Lastly, the central Liverpool station and the new Elizabeth line are minutes away featuring fast access everywhere and direct LHR trains. You will enjoy this fun hotel and neighborhood.

Yelp
3rd time staying here and still one of our fav hotels. The location is great. Only few steps to underground and walking distance to many restaurants and shops. We were upgraded to the higher level king size room, and our guest of honor friends were upgraded to a regular king size room. When they saw our room, another reason to persuade them to get Hyatt globalist status haha. Buffet breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices. Even though it's in a smaller restaurant it didn't matter. (1902 is under renovation.) All the staff were very friendly and helpful as always. Highly recommend staying at Andaz Liverpool. The only thing I didn't like was the bedsheet made me itchy. Everything else was wonderful.

Yelp
Great ambition, it meets my taste, luxury and hip vibes. We were greeted and assisted the minute we walked in, Csaba Tob, helped us from beginning to end, Amazing I give this place 5 stars.

Yelp
Ah, the Andaz. My favorite hotel. Steeped in fascinating history (literally built on the site of 'Bedlam' and literarily Van Helsing's haunt in London), this gorgeous Victorian building is handily located across from Liverpool station and close to many culinary and tourist attractions as well as convenience stores and offices. The Andaz knows that hospitality is king--they treat you like royalty. Prefer a particular room? They do their best to accommodate you and will show you different choices if you like. They have complimentary wine and nibbles every evening from 6-7. Room service is solicitous, and the food (I ordered the salmon with veg) is delicious and served promptly. Our TV wasn't working properly one day and they not only quickly solved the problem, but left us a little gift and apologetic note! I only have a few suggestions to make: the rooms are spacious, but could use a bit more furniture so they don't look too empty--we moved the couch from the end of the bed to the bare wall, but the addition of a couple club chairs and a coffee table would really help make the space cozier and more welcoming. The light switches are confusing and the bathroom lighting needs a dimmer or something. It's not relaxing to take a bath in operating room level brightness. And I love the modern industrial room decor, but the two "pictures" (of sad old men holding bags) are very strange and randomly placed. That said, the beds and pillows are very comfortable, and they have a Nespresso machine and free snacks! Looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
This is a 5 Star hotel from beginning to end. The Staff are great, the location is great, the room was great, you couldn't ask for a better stay. This hotel is located near pubs, bars and stores and restaurants for your convenience. The room comes with a Krups coffee maker/tea maker, mini fridge and more. The Krups coffee gets replaced everyday so you have a fresh cup of coffee every morning. The Hamilton Hall is just around the corner from this hotel and was my watering hole for a couple of nights. Every night, they would break out red and white bottles of wine for your enjoyment and juice and coffee in the mornings and I think I saw croissants one day. I highly recommend staying here if you are ever in London, you can't go wrong.

Yelp
This hotel is wonderful. From Vanessa helping us before arrival to Aurelia helping us upon arrival, the staff has been warm, welcoming, and accommodating at every step. I had an issue with another Hyatt in London that was no fault of the Andaz, but they still worked hard to help us resolve and make us feel welcome. The hotel itself is historical, but modern, with beautiful rooms and common areas. Use the Andaz as your launching pad to the city, just steps from Liverpool Station!

Yelp
First of this place is Amazing. I have to say that we truly had a five star experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. As we are checking in We are offered to have espresso coffee and bottled water. In the lobby area though they have unlimited espresso bar, juice, fancy bottle water and complimentary wine tasting during happy hour. Our room was very satisfying, comfy bed, espresso machine in the room, heated bathroom floor and completely vanity set. The manager surprised us with complimentary bottle of champagne with macaroons , cupcakes and chocolate for our honeymoon. Our whole experience was beyond wonderful. I would definitely come back. Tip: Hotel is walking distance from Liverpool Station

Yelp
The Andaz in London is located in east London. I have to say I enjoyed staying there very much. The staff was very friendly. My room was nice and big. Good bed. Amazing bathroom. The shower was awesome ! Great water pressure rain head. Breakfast at the hotel is very good and the staff couldn't have been any nicer. The gym was small but the dumbbells went all the way to 80 lbs which was great and they have a squat rack which most hotels never have. So that was a plus. Highly recommend this hotel. Lots of great shopping and restaurants located right out the front of hotel.

Yelp
This is a wonderful, stylish hotel with great personal touches and a lot of designer flair. Perfectly located for access to the bustling banking district during the week or a classy getaway at the weekend, this recently-renovated hotel has gravitas and elegance. As a World Of Hyatt member, I was personally greeted by the customer service rep, Natalie, and escorted to my room, tucked away in a quiet corner per my preferences. It is so quiet in here! Later the housekeeping brought me a delicious set of housemade treats. How thoughtful. The hotel provides coffee/tea, soft drinks in a minibar, iron, hairdryer, slippers and other amenities. I will be back!
google avatar

Austin M.

Yelp
Excellent location (Liverpool station is just there), excellent staff (Donna in housekeeping is a darling), higher than average in-suite dining (versus most other Hyatt properties), superbly and thoughtfully designed and appointed rooms and suites. You'll be pleased to know that the hotel serves a highly modified British cuisine (it's edible). So, if you're coming from Spain, France or some parts of The United States... You might want to take all your meals inside the hotel to avoid the legendary ghastly British food. Definitely request a room facing inward if you're sensitive to noise as the street side has a lot of noise from the nearby brigade and pubs. If you're extremely sensitive, you may notice the mini earthquake as the trains pass underneath.

Yelp
Among the Hyatt properties, the Andaz line tends to be among my favorites due to their modern decor, excellent breakfast dining options and in-room snacks/libations, professionalism, and stellar locations; and the London property is no exception. Located literally next door to the Liverpool Street tube station, which also has an adequate collection of fast casual dining and mini-grocery stores within the station and access to all the major lines including rail and bus options to Stansted Airport, one also is a quick walk to iconic locales such as the Spitalfield Market and the highest view of London from a 24/7 restaurant on the 40th floor of Heron Tower (Duck and Waffle). There is an excellent selection of complimentary juices/sodas and snacks in the minibar and while there is an excellent breakfast spread downstairs at 1901 which doesn't come cheap, they also feature fresh baked breakfast croissants and fruit which one can grab on the go if you beat the morning rush. We had an issue with a bathroom shower door and a few moths in our room, and the hotel manager was quick to reassign us to a different room, had someone stop in to provide us an apologetic letter w/ passion fruit meringues, and the manager offered us a complimentary breakfast or Hyatt points upon our departure as a final gesture of goodwill, which definitely went way beyond the call of duty. My only minor critiques are merely subjective, which would be the absence of a pool (although the workout facility is outstanding, not that I would think of partaking while on holiday) and the bathroom facilities are a bit traditional Old English (small sinks and a tub one has to ascend into which look nice in appearance but are not practical), but the service and location far outweigh such peccadilloes. Would gladly return on a future trip back to The Big Smoke.

Yelp
The first Andaz experience I had was in the 5th Avenue New York hotel and I fell in love with the brand. The rooms at that location are beautiful lofts, spacious (especially by Manhattan standards), and are quintessential modern luxury. Since then I've stayed at the Andaz in West Hollywood, Napa, and now London. The check-in is the same, but the fifth floor room we received shocked me. It felt like an Aloft hotel room. Not something worth $300+ a night. While we were contemplating moving to the Four Seasons (less than $100 more a night) we received a call from our host. He was checking in on the room and how we were doing. After I explained my thoughts, he sent Paul up with keys to two different rooms that we could choose from on the fourth floor. Apparently the third and fourth floors had been renovated and the fifth had not been done yet. What a world of difference! We thanked Paul, moved our things and were happy that the new room was much more beautifully appointed and felt more like the modern, Andaz-brand. When it came to go to bed, we noticed that the closet light wouldn't turn off so we had a seam of bright light shining in the room. Then we woke to sounds of construction - whirring of sanders and hammering of nails. UGH. We asked to be released from our second night and are checking into the Four Seasons just a few minutes away. We were told this property is a lifestyle hotel, not a luxury hotel. So if you're looking for luxury, go to Four Seasons. If you like the Andaz chain and have the patience to handle their growing pains, give it a shot. This certainly didn't live up to the Andaz-brand quality that I first fell in love with an am uncertain holds true anywhere but 5th Avenue.

Yelp
I don't get why this hotel is so highly ranked. Sure, proximity to train station is good, but overall my experience has been lack luster. First off, I would give it 4 stars as a concept: free happy hour wine, casual check in stations instead of the normal counters, clean rooms. But here is what I found: 1) lack of counters makes people who wait to check in very awkward. Where do you stand without hovering on others? And only one person mending the check in process seemed a bit slow. 2) wines run out quickly and servers need to rush back and forth. Good effort but it makes guests feel, shall I say "cheap" to ask for wine and seem to be begging for it. No thank you. 3) in-hotel restaurant dining is terrible. Not terrible in terms of quality because I didn't get to try them. Their business hours are very limited. Japanese restaurant not open on Sunday. Pub closed by 9pm on Sunday. On a cold rainy evening, thank god for UberEats. 4) my main complaint is the bathrooms. The door isn't typical latch. This one makes a big noise every time you open or shut it. Midnight bathroom runs will definitely wake your partner up. If not that, then it would be the industrial suction toilets that can bring down the house. 5) finally, the shower. The water doesn't drain fast enough, so ladies and gents, you have to do a quick 2 minute shower, or it'll overflow. For the price, I would say you can go somewhere else that doesn't "try" as hard but at least delivers a solid experience.

Yelp
This is a three-star hotel masquerading as a five. The staff was quite cordial. The facilities are mediocre. Lobby is virtually non-existent. Rooms are a notch above a motel. Housekeeping forgot to visit the room on day one. Day three, tepid shower. The location is superb, but there is a reason that this hotel costs so much less than the better hotels of London.

Yelp
The Andaz is quite the posh, boutique hotel in "The City" section of London, adjacent to much of the financial and insurance businesses dominating that area. Service was impeccable; check-in was quick and easy, and the staff was also quick to look after my needs, including extra U.S. to UK power adaptors in the room. The room was clean and modern, with marble bathrooms, large screen TV, comfy bed, and strong wi-fi (included). Even the minibar was complimentary, though it was not as stocked as most - a few beers, some water, some juice, a tiny bottle of wine. The lobby also boasted a variety of snacks, which changed over the day. But these tended to be of the microscopic variety. The hotel itself was an interesting mix of styles; the compact lobby and "core" of the hotel were quite modern, whereas the the adjoining areas, the fitness room, and the restaurants were based on much more traditional design. I became somewhat addicted to the coffee machine in the lobby. Being jet-lagged, I helped myself more than once to an espresso, americano or cappuccino to keep myself upright. Prices were quite high at $450/night (300 GBP) for single occupancy. I think they're overreaching a bit, since I've stayed at hotels as nice, or nicer, for a bit less.

Yelp
Amazing stay for my first time in London! The hotel is very warm and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable and cozy. I will say that the two best things about this hotel is the location (right next to train station) and the STAFF!!! What an amazing time! Thank you to all the Andaz London Liverpool staff. You made this an unforgettable trip! I can't wait to come return :)

Yelp
5 because, the quality of the bed, the bathroom, the fact that if you want a real light in your room you can have it, the soundproofing, the mini bar, the quantity of usb plugs. As you can see they went into details.

Yelp
I have to give this place props - we were impressed. This was the final stop in a 4 hotel spree while we stayed 10 days in London/Paris for a European trip culminating in theater tickets to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Hamlet at the Barbican. The Andaz was booked as part of a package to get the theater tickets so I didn't personally choose this hotel. It's in a very central location on Liverpool St near tons of food, shopping, industry and the Barbicans about 10-15 minutes walk. This hotel is right beside the Liverpool train station also so it's a very good location if you want to ride the tube anywhere to sight-see. I'm a Hyatt member so upon check-in we upgraded to a larger room - and were told breakfast was included in our rate - we could dine at either of their two restaurants offering breakfast or order room service. They have snacks every afternoon and drinks that are complimentary and The interior is very updated and minimalistic while still very upscale and classy. Our hotel room was large and spacious with updated fixtures and a stocked fridge with drinks and juice that were complimentary. We loved it. We did eat breakfast at 1901 which is right beside the hotel on the first day and they have a large selection of breakfast items with good service in the beautiful old building they've converted to their restaurant space. The other two days we had early morning sightseeing excursions planned so we opted for early morning room service which was charged to the room but then is removed upon checkout. Their room service breakfast menu is large and we got items like omelettes, pancakes, waffles, muffins, porridge, fresh berries, lattes, and toast. So we didn't feel cheated or deprived. They were prompt and on-time which was good since we had a tight morning schedule both days. We did speak to the concierge for directions and other things and they were all very friendly and helpful. Overall, this was a nice way to wrap up our trip and we would absolutely stay here any other time we are in London. I loved all the shopping and restaurants nearby. Plus seeing a show at the Barbican was fabulous! The only issue is this is quite a ways away from the historic London sights - like Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Big Ben, etc. It's near to the Tower Bridge and Tower of London as well as Shakespeare's Globe so we walked to those but you wouldn't want to walk to any of the others I mentioned above. A taxi will run you between 15-25 pounds depending on traffic so if you come here prepare for hefty taxi fares or plan to learn to use the tube. Cheers!

Yelp
I spent the last five nights at Andaz and had a great experience. I arrived this past weekend at 730 am and they had a room ready for me to check in; much appreciated after an overnight flight! The room was fine, clean, tall ceilings and unique decor. When traveling to London for work I always switch up the hotel however I think I'd come back to this one. I ordered room service one night and ate outside the hotel other nights. The mini bar (non alcoholic) was complimentary which was super cool. The hotel gym was the biggest that I've seen thus far, it even had a stair master! The overall location was convenient for me; .5 mile walk to work, right next to Liverpool street tube station, a tesco basically across the street, and only steps from great restaurants and pubs. I'd recommend checking this place out if you're looking to stay in the area!

Yelp
Nothing gets any better than this! We truly had a five star experience here. Everything from the warm greetings, the loan or umbrellas, the oversized bath towels, the clean and comfortable rooms, the mini restaurants to choose from on property, the convenience of walking to the metro, to the English tea in our room. Everything is perfect we will stay here again

Yelp
Truly a wonderful hotel. The staff are very accommodating. Joelle helped us check in even though we arrived a few hours early. She was so wonderful! Staff comes by to stock the mini fridge and snacks in the room. You can choose from biscuits, crisps, apple and orange juice, still and sparkling water, and soda. We stayed in an inward facing room to avoid the street noise. We had a view of a lounge area where there was some natural sky light so we could open the blinds and wake up to light. The bath tub was wonderful and I was especially impressed with the quality of the blow dryer that came with the room.

Yelp
This hotel was excellent. Particularly nice touches were a huge TV in the room (maybe 60 inch screen?), Nespresso machine and other included beverages (water, juice, soda) and chips and biscuits in the mini bar. Excellent location right next to the Liverpool Street tube and train station. Great choice particularly if you are in the area for business as I was.

Yelp
This was a truly remarkable experience. We stayed in the Red Suite to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. Everything about it was wonderful... except maybe that the bathroom is such a "long walk" from the bedroom. I especially love that the room has a Nespresso maker. This is all we drink at home and it felt nice to not have to break our specific caffeine addiction. We were treated like royalty. The front desk staff each brought us gifts. Lotions from Lush from Lennart, chocolates from Jaime. We felt truly special. The breakfast room is beautiful and the food excellent. We never got a chance to eat or drink at any of the other bars in the hotel since we spent most of our days wandering around the city... BUT, we're returning to the hotel in 2 days time... so perhaps we'll have something to add... YAY... I'll definitely be back!!

Yelp
You are either a hotel snob or you are not. If you are a hotel snob, you are bound to stay at an Andaz property. So I'm clearly a snob...because yeah, I am writing a review about the Andaz London Liverpool Street...and you have to see it is pretty good since it is getting a 5-star review from a hotel snob. While its Victorian-esque exterior, it is easily missed unless you see the silver plaque bearing the name "Andaz" by its front doors. Yet, as you step through its revolving door (or side doors), you are taken into a modern world where contemporary features abound and a personalized service greets you to get you checked in. Like the other Andaz properties, your host will personally check you in and get you acquainted with the hotel as they build a connection with you. It's rooms aren't by any means the largest, but they certainly are amongst the best appointed. Eames designed furniture and tech gadgets? Plus, you don't have to worry about added fees for wi-fi, in-room snack bar (only alcohol), gym access, and even forgetting an international power adapter (just don't take it with you). When it comes to finding a hotel to stay, convenience is key. It's set fairly close to a number of landmarks such as the Shard, the London Bridge, and East London attractions. Also, it is right next door to the Liverpool Street station which can connect you to pretty much everywhere in the city. The staff are pretty amazing. It almost seems as if anything possible. No almost doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary. We were warmly welcomed and felt like a local. Their insider suggestions proved very valuable in helping us feel welcomed and created an incredible stay in London.

Yelp
Good hotel in Central Location. I work across the road, so makes my commute very easy. Staff were super helpful this visit, last visit no wifi or television which was annoying. Nice comfortable room, good bed. However the cost of laundry is outrageous - £30 for three pairs of socks and three underpants.

Yelp
Great location. Shabbyish hotel. Service is not so great. Rooms not so clean. Found a half eatern apple in running machine at the gym, just ordered a French 75 & got given a weird mix of pineapple, chambourd & vodka, (should be gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and champagne w/ a twist), among others - shoddy for a champagne bar. Waiter looked so terrified i kept it as i didnt want them to pay for it. Shame as we stay at the Andaz wall st & the Service is great. Obsequious but no substance. Could / should do better... Pretty architecture is really only thing in its favour.

Yelp
This review is long overdue from our last year trip to London. We arrived early from our long flight and they assisted us in storing our luggages because our room was not ready. They even have a room shower which was very nice! We felt clean and freshened up before we head out to explore London! Our room was nice, very spacious, and our bed was really soft! The hotel is close is Liverpool station. Free wine, champagne, fruits and snacks at the front desk! Would highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp
Pros 1) We stayed here on points and still received a nice, spacious (by London standards) room. 2) Check-in was friendly, helpful and efficient. 3) The doorman on service during the day was always friendly and kind in wishing us a pleasant day or helping with luggage when we arrived. 4) Location is good for catching buses or trains at Liverpool Station 5) Free sodas, water and snacks from the minibar. There was a very limited free snack selection though - basically just sunflower seeds and some (tasty) cranberry biscuits. 6) The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Cons 1) The hotel uses a vacuum-based system to dispose of wastewater. Supposedly this saves a lot of water compared to traditional systems. It makes a loud whooshing sound every time it activates. I can understand and have no problem with using this system to flush the toilet. If it saves water, great! But the same system also applies to the sink and bathtub/shower. So while you're showering, you hear the whooshing sound over and over again. When my wife was taking a shower, I thought our upstairs neighbor was repeatedly flushing the toilet over and over again. Maybe I'm just sensitive to noise but I found this pretty darn annoying, especially in a hotel that usually charges upwards of $450/night per room. 2) I understand that the typical clientele for the hotel are rich people, but I must say that I felt we got a rather cool reception most of the time from the employees (except for the person who checked us in). For example, the hotel advertises complementary toiletries for those who have forgotten something at home. One night, I went down late in the evening to ask for a small bottle of mouthwash. The man on duty took a moment to register my request and then complied, but he made it seem like my request was a major inconvenience. With friendlier service and a different wastewater system, this could be a great hotel.

Yelp
I had a free night certificate after signing up for a Hyatt credit card and I used it here. I had just 2 days and 1 night in London flying into and out of Stansted airport. (I used the Standsted Express Train to get to and from the airport to Liverpool Street station - buy those tickets early to save). The hotel is directly to the South of Liverpool station. It really was an unbeatable location given our itinerary. The room was nice - and the complimentary soft drinks and juices in the mini bar were a nice touch.

Yelp
I was on a quick trip to London and wanted to keep things convenient to the office so I booked Andaz and was very pleased with my stay. I am used to staying in Mayfair so staying in the City is a completely different experience for me. Andaz managed to give me most of the in-room comforts of Mayfair but also provided a short walk to the office, exactly what I needed on this trip. The hotel is lovely and a cool blend of modern and classic architecture and design. My room was surprisingly large with ample power outlets and a fairly large bathroom as well. Two small things: The shower head was very low, even for someone short like I am, so I could see this being really problematic for a normal height person. Second one was that the hair dryer was plugged into the desk drawer so I had to awkwardly dry my hair between the bed and the desk without access to a mirror. Not a life or death situation but just something that could be easily solved with a movable hair dryer and I just had expected better. If you need to be in the City, you can't ask for a better location. Right next to Liverpool station and within walking distance of Moorgate and Bank stations, Andaz is perfect for the business traveler. Although I only had one night there, I appreciated the complimentary in room snacks and fresh fruits/pastries offer in the lobby each morning. I would certainly recommend Andaz to anyone looking for something a bit more on the modern side yet still full of traditional British character.

Yelp
Located in the Andaz hotel, formerly the Great Eastern, this is a strange restaurant, but excellent food. The restaurant itself has been created from a communal space in the hotel. It is very smalll, only 10 tables, and is separated from the common hotel area by a series of partitions. It's decorated in muted green and the main feature is the crustacea bar, heaped with wonderful shellfish. There are three ornate stained glass windows behind the bar and they are beautifully backlit. Once settled at your table, it becomes easy to forget that you are in a space which could effectively be a hotel lobby. Instead, you feel you are in an elegant but relaxed and intimate dining area. The food itself was excellent and though high-end, not excessively so. I had the Cornish dressd crab for a starter. It was delicious and absolutely huge! The salmon for the main course was great. I was here with a mixed group of senior executives from across Europe and they are all foodies so I was a little nervous about booking a relatively unknown restaurant, especially one located in a hotel. I needn't have worried - everyone was really impressed. Despite all of the above, I have given the restaurant only 3 stars because there were two negative aspects. To start, the restaurant space is sandwiched between two pubs. Being a Thursday night in the City, both pubs were heaving and every time the interior doors opened you received a blast of loud music and conversation. The toilets were also common for the restaurant and the pubs so later on in the evening they weren't in a great state.

Yelp
Great Hyatt property! Stayed here while on business for a workshop at the hotel. Quite impressed by a number of small details - the complementary mini-bar in the room stocked with water, soda, and snacks, the complementary coffee and juice in the lobby, the attentive door man ready to grab the door at a moments notice, the list goes on... One thing I very much appreciated about the hotel was just how quiet it is. My room was on the 1st floor and I was initially concerned about traffic noise. Boy I could I be further off base - this room is blissfully quite even overlooking the small road outside. The gym in the lower level does well for itself. A full accompaniment of free weights, squat rack, and bench (don't see those all in too many hotel gyms). All the latest and greatest treadmills and stationary bikes. Plus a heavy bag (punching bag) to boot! I would say excellent for business stays in the area, but if you are vacationing it is a bit out of the way from all the main attractions. Nevertheless, on the merit of a great hotel, this one certainly does wonders!

Yelp
Imagine for a moment ... A child holding tightly to a pillar and refusing to let go. Chocolates in a huge bathtub, with aromas that that tickle your senses. Not ever wanting to leave your room -- ever! Yes, yes I know business calls, just forward the calls to your assistant. A place where dressing up just seems necessary to embody the whole adventure. I just wish I had remembered my tiara. Sleeping is like being on your own cloud; I never heard anyone and truly thought I was alone. I'd read others reviews thinking, nothing can be that great - wrong. I won't ruin it for you because you just HAVE to experience this place for yourself -- I fully expect you too, will not want to release the pillar either. I stayed here for a birthday treat myself (August) and choose the larger suite. My favorite was the robe, so coZy. The huge room makes it so easy to feel like you can make this place home. Convenience of the station makes getting about very easy. Nothing against my friends that I was visiting --- all I could think about was getting back to my room. My friends came by to visit my little paradise, I was actually worried they might stay. Hyatt did not disappoint. Staff was more then accommodating; I started feeling sickly, I'm not good with long flights, the hostess looked at me and said she'd have me right and boy did she. A masseuse like one I'd never experienced, a shock treatment that curled my toes. Not done yet, my pedicure and manicure -- happy toes. Contrary to what others have said, I really enjoyed the miyako, sashimi was delicious (tuna) and one day too tired to dine out I took a bento box to my room (tuna and salmon). Breakfast/brunch, I thoroughly enjoyed the ricotta and blueberry pancakes ... Wow ... Red Passion cocktail. Airport transfer was easy coming and going. Leaving this beautiful place, not so easy. I'm booking for my next birthday! Next time I'll take photos of me in my tiara.

Yelp
This was my first time staying at an Andaz hotel. I think it's primarily considered to be a business hotel - this location was conveniently located near liverpool station. The staff were all very nice and there are a number of "extras" and amenities that are given to you; however, the hotel itself is an older one (you can hear your neighbor's plumbing) and they could really use some new curtains as light comes through each morning waking you up before your alarm clock. Bottom line, can't say it's my top choice for London but OK if you're in a pinch.

Yelp
An absolutely superb hotel in a brilliant spot in central London! Surrounded by grand restaurants (the seafood place is amazing - arrive early!) this hotel truly hits the spot, especially when you're tired at the end of a long day of meetings. This boutique hotel by Hyatt comes with all the bells and whistles expected of an Andaz - complimentary water, juices, local cookies and treats... the list goes on. There's even a nice happy hour with free wine. Yes, the rooms a re a tad on the pricey side, but well worth it when they don't nickel and dime you upon arrival. Although swankier than its Hollywood cousin, the location might not sit well with your average tourist, as it is located in London's business district, which means it get s little sleepy on weekends. Again, not a problem for me, as I don't mind walking and , as mentioned above, there are plenty cool spots located at the hotel's base. All in all, a highly recommended hotel.

Yelp
I loved the Andaz on Liverpool Street. Though my room itself was small and had a slanted ceiling that made it feel even smaller, the experience was overall a very good one. Besides free Wi-Fi and snack in your room, you also have access to the snacks in the library that changed throughout the afternoon. The lobby was a nice place to sit and hang out, especially around happy hour when they hand out complementary glasses of wine accompanied by snacks like nuts and cookies. Little touches like that always impress me. The front desk staff was super helpful and made everything easy. I have no complaints whatsoever about this hotel! I will definitely stay here when I'm in London again.

Yelp
Before I booked the Andaz, I was debating between this location and the Hyatt Churchill Portman Square. I just needed one night to stay and had some points to burn. Being that I am young, I decided to choose the Andaz as I felt the Hyatt Churchill would be to stuffy for me even though I would only be staying for one night. The location is great, right next to Liverpool St. Station which also happens to have a 24hr McDonalds just outside of it. Walking wise, it was a mere two minutes from the tube to the lobby of the hotel which was also a plus. There is no typical front desk for you to check in at but a bunch of people walking around with iPads to check you in. The clerk and I sat on a couch while she checked me in and even brought me a glass of water. She was quite pleasant and as a Hyatt Platinum even upgraded me to a larger corner room. While these maybe considered suites by hotel standards, to me it was just a larger room but still a nice touch for my one night stay. Mind you this is not your typical big box, cookie cutter hotel but an old railway hotel that had been converted into this boutique type hotel. However on the inside, everything was super modern and the room was the same with a few touches of old school classic like the shower controls and towel rack. One thing I enjoy is the complementary non alcoholic/snacks minibar in the room. While it was not stocked with the usual minibar goodies, it did have a few sodas, bottles of water and some hipster type snacks. However my absolute favorite thing was the bed. I have spent 100's of nights in hotels over the past few years because of work and this bed was by far and away the most comfortable mattress I had ever slept on. It took forever for me to get out of bed that morning to get ready and catch my flight. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and only wish I could have spent more time here. The location, staff and bed all make it worth picking this Hyatt property over the other one in town.

Yelp
I spent twelve nights here in March, and a couple of nights in February, and really enjoyed both stays. A bit farther from work than the Apex Temple Court, but I had a nicer experience. CHECK-IN: Check-in was flawless the first two times, and minimally (a three or so minute delay) flawed the second time. The response to this slight delay was almost comical, in that they profusely apologized, offered me a free glass of wine, and there was a card from the manager in my room the next day apologizing. It was also very cool, with an iPad, etc. ROOM: I've had three rooms here, two for one night each, and one for eleven nights. All were quite nice. All rooms have very nice beds, bath amenities, relatively spacious bathrooms, and minibars with free snacks and nonalcoholic beverages (plus alcohol, but you have to pay). I remember being annoyed at the shower splashing water on the floor in one bathroom, but not in a huge way. I used a Hyatt upgrade to a suite for the long stay, and let me tell you, the room was fantastic. It was open, but had a large bedroom with a separate office area, a sitting room, a big closet room with wardrobes on one side and space for a suitcase, and a huge bathroom with a separate shower and tub. The toiletries were very nice and the towels were very high quality. If there's one minor, but sometimes major, annoyance with the room it's that it didn't have an ironing board and iron. You had to request them, which was just a pain at 7 AM when you're trying to get dressed. BREAKFAST: Breakfast was included with my room (though they kept billing me for it, and the charges were removed at the end) and was very nice. I used the buffet every day, which had an excellent selection of breads, cheeses, hot items, yogurts, etc. Superior to the Apex Temple Court I'd say. When my friend ate one morning with me, the charge was GBP24, which I felt fair. FACILITIES: The gym was very nice for a hotel gym. Spacious and quality equipment. There were several bars and pubs at the hotel, as well as nearby. The wine list at the bar/restaurant Eastway was very nice and reasonably priced for a hotel in London. That is to say, it was stupidly expensive but not more than you'd expect. Wifi is included with the room. LOCATION: The location is great, especially for business, but also for leisure. It's next to Liverpool Street station in a great City location, but it's still close to all of the trendy places in Shoreditch and East London (which is more my cup of tea honestly than Soho, even as a gay dude). Highly recommended.

Yelp
My regular hotel whenever i am in london, love the hip trendy theme, and free mini-bar, stocked with cookies and organic pear/apple juice, still and sparkling water and lastly pls watchout for the chocolate coated coffee bean though, they were nasty. All rooms are different in layout, i have stayed here for almost 7-8times and really love it.

Yelp
What a wonderful Hyatt property! We had 2 excellent stays at this Andaz. We really loved everything about it. The staff is what I would love to see at all hotels. Bright, welcoming and personable. So very nice to see a staff that is top notch! The rooms were very nicely appointed. Everything was in excellent condition, no wear and tear on any of the furnishings. Great bedding and comfortable beds. Free mini bar (soft drinks/juices) and snacks were nice to have and replenished each day. Breakfast was excellent. Large selection of hot and cold options set up a in a gorgeous space. Again, excellent service. Excellent location right near the tube station so very simple and convenient to all of London! We would certainly stay here again!

Yelp
This hotel is truly outstanding. I stayed for seven nights and pretty much wanted to move in instead of check out. Its location is right next to the Liverpool Street tube/British Rail train station, which if you're not familiar with London, is smack dab in the middle of the banking and financial district. Bishopsgate, the main thoroughfare on which the hotel is located, has a place in British history as a carriage route -- go into the pub attached to the hotel and check out the paintings. The George is a wonderful place to have a few pints before heading out. As for location, it's within a brisk walk to the Tower of London and South Bank, as well as Borough Market, Duck & Waffle, Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane. So if you're a foodie, this location is a dream. It's full of life, bustle and busy Londoners getting to and from work. On the weekends it's a little more quiet. The hotel is wonderful in that you get free snacks and drinks in your room and the whole place smells like flowers all the time. It's a renovated train station and the bathrooms are decorated beautifully in chrome and black and white tile. I'm getting just nostalgic thinking about it. Take me back to the Andaz!

Yelp
Stellar hotel in Central London. Speedy check-in began with a glass of wine and ended with a detailed tour of my spacious room, replete with a nespresso machine, to boot. The room included a great office workspace with office supplies, and an amazing, white subway-tiled bathroom rounds out the lovely rooms. The hotel is comprised of several buildings--or so it seems--that are cleverly stitched together around an interior circulation core/atrium. The hotel is immaculate, airy, and welcoming, with stylish flourishes all around. Complimentary happy hour every evening with wine and canapés in the lobby lounge, and the library offers a self-service soft bar with another nespresso machine and fruits and snacks all day long. A very nice touch! In addition, the is an excellently appointed fitness center with a well-thought out mixed-gender locker room--saves on a lot of space! The steam room is a welcome amenity, thought the lack of a sitting/resting area poses some difficulties to do a proper steam with the appropriate breaks. Sadly, the Japanese/sushi bar is closed on weekends, but Eastway cafe offers light lunches all day long, as well as The George Pub. Helpful concierge will go to town for you to get sought-after reservations, but we were too late for my top choice. (My own fault, indeed!) In any case, whether for business or pleasure, I cannot imagine a better hotel for a London getaway--unless, of course, you didn't want to be in the financial area.
