As a self-paying Hyatt member/couple traveling with a toddler, we sought a peaceful and relaxing getaway. Given Pattaya’s busy atmosphere, we chose Andaz Pattaya expecting it to be an oasis of calm—especially since it’s one of the most expensive hotels in the area and carries the Andaz brand, which typically promises a world-class experience. Unfortunately, this stay left us disappointed and questioning the value.||Pre-arrival: Disorganized and Unresponsive|We requested an early check-in in advance, as recommended, and were told someone would call us back. That never happened. We had to follow up ourselves, adjusting our arrival plans with uncertainty. Not the start you’d hope for at a five-star hotel.||Check-in & Orientation: Check-in was quick and calm. A staff member showed us to our room, gave us a quick orientation but skipped some important info like spa, gym.||The Grounds: The property itself is well-landscaped and serene, with a touch of Thai charm in the room design. But once inside the room, issues quickly surfaced:|• Curtains were stuck|• Dust in the carpet|• Missing basic amenities like razors (which we had to request)|• Weak water pressure in the shower||The complimentary refilling mini bar (with beer!) was a nice touch.||Service: Some staff were excellent—smiling, attentive, and eager to help, especially by the poolside team were excellent. Others were cold, especially over the phone.||The most surprising thing: we were told morning room cleaning wasn’t available because housekeeping hadn’t started yet—something we’ve never encountered at a supposed five-star resort.||Dining: This was by far the low point. We had read poor reviews about the food but hoped for the best. Sadly, they were accurate:|• Fish Club: Highly anticipated but underwhelming—extremely salty food, tiny portions, slow service, no kids menu (though staff did help make us something ad hoc) and the venue was also unusually hot (even the waiter complained)|• Mission to find a cup of ice cream that was advertised in the signs were a pain. After being misdirected between Wok Wok and poolside, we gave up and went back to our rooms. We tried room service but cancelled after it not arriving 45 mins later. Just trying to get two scoops of ice cream became a frustrating ordeal.|• Breakfast: A logistical mess, spread across two restaurants requiring guests to walk back and forth. No clear communication on the ability to order from a menu. Staff forgot items, some dishes ran out, and the venue was overcrowded and humid.|• Wok Wok: A quarter of the menu was unavailable—including all beef options.||Kids Facilities: The kids club was small, cramped, and uninspiring. With so many families staying here, you’d expect more thought put into this space.||Pools & Beach: The swimming pools were pleasant—spacious and varied enough for families to enjoy. The beach wasn’t anything special, but decent enough by Pattaya standards.||Check-out was smooth and efficient. Before we left, Khun Kay from the front office kindly took the time to speak with us. He acknowledged the areas where our stay had fallen short and offered a sincere apology, along with a gesture of goodwill—a discount on our dining charges and an offer of a complimentary upgrade should we choose to return. We appreciated the thoughtfulness and professionalism.||Final Verdict:|This is not the Andaz experience you’d expect. It felt more like a 4 star Pattaya resort charging 5 star prices it doesn’t earn. While our overall experience didn’t meet the expectations we had for the Andaz brand, the gesture during checkout helped ease some of the frustration.
