Andaz was my last leg of my birthday celebration. I booked 2 rooms months in advance. One for my own personal room and another one for my kids (since the hotel has strict room occupancy restrictions). Upon arriving, I wasn't greeted with so much as a welcome just a "Can I have your name and passport?" Soghton afterwards, I was informed that the adjoining rooms I booked were not what I had reserved and PREPAID IN FULL. Instead they were completely separate on separate floors. As a parent, I found this completely unacceptable and could not fathom that the hotel thought that it was acceptable. The hotel front staff tried to tell me they were completely booked and no other options were offered. Considering that I was checking in at 9pm I have a strong suspicion that they sold my original rooms to another party for a higher price. We spoke with three different staff members and none of them attempted to offer any solutions. While all this was happening, the manager cowardly did not even bother to come speak with us to apologize or ratify the error. Soon I was just met with "you will either check in or we will cancel your room." HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?! I have never been met with such arrogance at a hotel. In fact I have been a loyal Hyatt member for years! I have stayed at many Hyatt properties, from the Hyatt Regency in Seattle and Long Beach, to Hyatt Centric in Austin, Ginza, and Honolulu, to the Park Hyatt in Carlsbad and NEVER have been treated in such a way. To be told that they will cancel the reservation on me with three tired children under 10 years old is completely unacceptable. The lack of customer service was appalling. I found the staff undertrained and discriminatory. We did cancel and found new accommodations, and as we were leaving they informed us that they will "waive the cancellation fee." How generous (not). I ended up staying at a real 5 star property in Seoul, the Four Seasons and they do not disappoint. Safe to say I will cancel my Hyatt card. Final assessment: Andaz Gangnam is not a 5 star property, the property is mediocre at best and their service is abysmal.
