andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

"The Ngorongoro Crater contains one of the world's greatest concentrations of wildlife (and Africa's highest concentration of lions) within its massive walls, making it one of the most enviable safari destinations on the entire continent. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge lets you wake up right in the midst of all that majesty, in one of 30 suites decked out with banana-leaf roofs, crystal chandeliers, and leather armchairs. Let the staff take you on game drives (complete with Swarovski binoculars) and meet-and-greets with the local Maasai and Hadzabe tribes before enjoying a holistic massage in your room, all capped off with a hot tea brought to your bed by a private butler. Think of it as Masai meets Versailles."

From the moment we were picked up from the airport the 4 of us were in awe - of the beauty of the landscape, the animals everywhere, the weather, but mostly the people. We felt so welcome and truly thought everyone was going out of their way to make our 3 night stay an experience we would never forget. Daniel was frequently checking in on us with a smile on his face, Upendo went above and beyond to make sure our meals were to our liking & that we basically had no wants, and Twalib was an expert game driver providing us an experience we will never forget. I'm getting tears in my eyes just writing this review. I know they are closed for extensive remodeling now, but I hope they keep the whole African vibe and don't go too modern. Such a unique and special place!

Ngorogoro Crater Lodge is an unparalleled safari experience. Jemma, JJ, Marcel, Erick, Alex and team make you feel like family and introduce you to a world you thought only could exist in your wildest dreams. We celebrated Christmas at the lodge with an extended family of 13. We never felt rushed or like strangers. The Maasai warriors who greeted, protected, and celebrated their culture with us are a component of the adventure we will never forget. Thank you and if you have an opportunity to live Ngorogoro, go now and never look back. Asante Sana!

We've traveled all over the world and stayed at many nice places. We were only here for 1 quick night, but this place makes the top 5 nicest places. The room was simply amazing, with the best views. The staff were superb and the one meal we had was most delicious. I only wish we had more time here, they made our stay even more special with an arrival bubble bath ready and dinner flowers.||Special thanks to Saibel our waiter and room attendant. We will be back, and stay for several nights.

The andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge offers stunning accommodations with breathtaking views and luxurious amenities. However, the dining experience fell short, at lunch for picnic , where the food quality was very disappointing given the high price($3980 per night) point of the stay.

African palace in the bush . Truly outstanding place to stay . Service is exceptional . Food is like having fine dining in the middle of nowhere . Rooms are beyond 5 star standard . Game drives in Ngorongoro crate is still at its best . The experience must be as part of your bucket list

I was on a flight from Arusha to Maynard Airport with two couples, who were also traveling to the Crater Lodge. So initially I was greeter=d by the same driver and we stayed in the airport parking lot for close to two hours doing a briefing and having drinks. This was odd - why the parking lot? Why not go to the lodge?||At the same time, there was another anyBeyond car giving a similar overview and drinks to another couple and I saw the driver of the first car move my bag to that car. When I asked why he said, very curtly, “I’m not you guide, go there’. I had to grab my backpack from he first car and when with the second group with a driver who never even introduced himself to me. ||Upon arrival, we were seated and introduced to our private butlers, though for me that hardly worked out to be the case. The first night’s dinner I was served by someone else. The room was highly uncomfortable, and the food was inedibly bad. I was never offered a wine list, and when I was leaving I was asked if I wanted a wake up call. I asked who would be doing it - since my butler wasn’t serving me or the one asking, but was told he would do the wake up call.||A third, unknown person came to my room at 5:30 am with coffee. I got ready and went to the vehicle to leave at 6, the agreed upon time, but the other couple was late and we didn’t leave until 7. The whole day was spent chasing what they wanted to see. I sat in the back and the ‘guide’ never even asked me what I was interested in. I got the by 3 pm and we hadn’t had lunch because the other couple said ‘we aren’t stopping until we see what I want to see’ I finally had to burst out, ‘no, I want lunch’ and the guide reluctantly agreed. I wasn’t a guest there. I was subsidizing someone else’s honeymoon.||The second night was even worse. I was told I could visit the rest of the property,, couldn’t sit outside, and had to go to dinner. Still no wine menu. No water. Room had four fireplaces going on a day that was only 60 degrees. I was dripping in sweat. Got soup. Then four minute wait for meal, which came out cold, so I think they forgot me. When he cleared it, uneaten, I said ‘it was cold - is it possible to get a hot dinner?’ He just walked off. I tried to get up on my own to get water since I was feeling overheated int he room, and was told to sit down, but still no water.||Finally I left. ||Next day woke up and it was gorgeous weather. I asked to it out side for breakfast and was, unsurprisingly, told no. I was told to go sit at a table in the corner. Finally I refused. The dining room was empty. I sat at a table by the window and told then they would need to pick me up to move me. I ate breakfast - again - in an empty dining room. When I finished, I saw then setting up outside tables for a other group, which I was told wasn’t possible.||This is a horrible, pretentious and rude place where they treat solo travelers like cargo.||Avoid.

Amazing lodge! I can’t put into words how incredible and special this place is. One of the nicest hotels we have ever visited. From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The entire staff was incredibly kind, hospitable, attentive and welcoming. In particular, our butler, Safari, enriched and augmented our experience every step of the way, always going above and beyond. In addition, the chef, Edgar, created a new delicious menu every day. All the food was amazing! The lodge itself is stunning, with truly breathtaking views as a backdrop. Our bedroom was beautiful and very spacious. The common areas were equally stunning, with amazing areas to unwind and relax after your game drive. It is the perfect location to explore the Crater. Highly recommend this wonderful lodge!

Absolutely unbelievable! Do not stay just one night here. We stayed at 6 beautiful lodges and hotels throughout our luxury stay in Tanzania and nothing compared to our stay here! The attention to detail and level of service is unparalleled. Our butter George was perfection.
