The Boston Area’s Best Bars For Memorial Day Chardonnay | Eater

"Chef Jim’s mozzarella, burrata, sausage, and focaccia may be made in-house, but the wines at Andiamo are sourced from much further afield. The list leans Italian (naturally), rounded out with a curated selection of North American bottles, including Harken. Order a glass of chardonnay (or two) and relax for a while on the patio." - Molly McDonough

Let me paint a picture of Andiamo Restaurant - Bar & Café in Andover, MA, a place where culinary magic, warmth, and sophistication fuse into an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment my wife and I stepped inside, we were enveloped in an atmosphere buzzing with energy and charm. The staff--especially the bartender--was not just attentive but professionally charismatic and socially engaging, making us feel like honored guests rather than mere patrons. Every request was met with genuine warmth and a smile, and the service was so flawless it bordered on choreographed elegance. Onto the food--oh, the food! My wife's Chicken Piccata was nothing short of a masterpiece: a crispy, golden chicken cutlet draped in a velvety wine butter sauce that danced on the palate, each bite a symphony of texture and flavor. As for me, I indulged in The Italiano, a meaty marvel piled high on fresh ciabatta bread, kissed with vintage balsamic dressing that elevated every ingredient to new heights. And the truffle fries--crispy, golden, and dusted with just the right amount of truffle essence--were so delectable I found myself sneaking extra bites from my wife's plate. The cocktails? Simply spectacular. The Andiam-old Fashioned, crafted with Whistle Pig Piggy Back Rye 6 Year, was a robust, perfectly balanced libation that warmed the soul. The Pear Sage Metropolitan was a refreshing, fruity concoction that brightened the afternoon and left us craving more. Every detail, from the ambiance to the presentation, screamed passion for hospitality. Our lunch at Andiamo Restaurant wasn't just a meal--it was a celebration of flavor, service, and style. If you're anywhere near Andover, do yourself a favor and experience this gem. Five stars just aren't enough! Our experience at Andiamo Restaurant - Bar & Café in Andover, MA was already extraordinary, but it reached new heights of indulgence with the arrival of dessert. The Chocolate Soufflé Cake was a revelation--rich, deeply chocolatey, and impossibly light, with a warm, molten center that melted in the mouth. Paired with a generous scoop of silky smooth vanilla gelato, the dessert was the perfect finale: the cool creaminess of the gelato balanced the intense cocoa notes of the soufflé cake, creating a harmony of flavors and textures that left us utterly enchanted. From the impeccable, personable service to the spectacular cocktails and every delectable bite--including that unforgettable, dreamy dessert--Andiamo is a culinary destination that sets the bar sky-high. Our lunch was more than a meal; it was a memory made, and we'll be back for every course--especially that Chocolate Soufflé Cake.

I visited twice this week during a business trip to Andover. The servers were attentive and delivered great service. The food was very good with large portions. Drink prices were a little high, but the quality of the drinks was excellent with excellent presentation. I'll be here for another 6 days and will probably visit again before returning home.

You must go here! it was so good. I never finish all my food at a restaurant and I made myself here because it was amazing and so perfectly balanced in flavor. It is homemade food, but I promise nobody in your family cooks like this. Great atmosphere and well made bar drinks too. In the photos so had mussels which were on special, so you may not be able to order them. I will be back for the next specials- but the burger was unique and five star.

We’ve dined here a handful of times and have always enjoyed a good meal. My favorite by far is their grilled salmon over Sweet Potato Hash, Crispy Pancetta, Roasted Red Peppers, Caramelized Onions, Grilled Broccolini. Who would have thought to put these together? The flavors pop and the salmon is always cooked to my preference which is a little on the rare side. If you’re a salmon fan, give this a try! The balsamic glaze over the calamari appetizer is unique and also a must try.

My husband is Italian and picky about food, so if he loved this restaurant, it means it's really good! I loved everything about it, the restaurant, the service and the food. The short rib arancini was simply wonderful and I'm a fan of arancini and I can say it's one of the best I've ever had. We'll definitely go back to this restaurant many times!!!

Had a fantastic meal last night at Andiamo! I’ve always heard great things but have never been. Their food menu had many appealing items as well as a great cocktail menu- I had the cucumber martini which had elderflower and white cranberry juice and it was probably the best I’ve ever had! For my meal I got the butternut squash ravioli which came in a sage cream sauce with their homemade burrata and balsamic caviar and it was truly delicious. I will definitely be back to try other items!

I went into Andiamo last night for my first time. It was around 5:30, and my boyfriend and I were greeted kindly, were put at a booth immediately, and our server was very kind and attentive. My only “issue” with my experience was the food. I am vegan, so I was super surprised and happy to see that they offer vegan risotto. I eagerly chose that, my boyfriend got the mushroom goat pizza, and we ordered a size of sweet potato hash. I asked the waitress if the truffle fries had parm and after she said yes, I opted to order the sweet potato hash. What I was very surprised to see if that the sweet potato hash not only came with tons of veggies (which is fine, it just didn’t say that on the menu), but also massive chunks of bacon - which I almost ate. Mind you, my boyfriend does not eat bacon for religious reasons and almost ate that as well. I don’t mind that bacon is in it - I’m sure it was delicious. What I think needs to change is that the menu has very little descriptors - if the sweet potato hash has pepper, onion, mushroom, and bacon, it should list that. My vegan risotto was okay - it seemed more like rice than risotto, and it was so scalding hot and was served not even after 10 minutes of me ordering, which of course tells me it’s just frozen and reheated to the point of no return. Oh well. Other than the food, no complaints at all.

My wife and I decided to stop here for our anniversary dinner on the way home today. I've been here a few times for lunch with co-workers and loved the sandwiches. My wife wanted to try the place out herself since she had heard about my lunches there. Let me start out with the friendly staff. We were there when it was not too busy, late lunch/early dinner which is our preference. We were greeted quickly and the staff was super friendly. So for the food. I had the Cotelleta Di Vitello Saltimbocca and my wife had the Petto Di Pollo Picatta. Wow!!! Both dishes were awesome! The pasta cooked perfectly and the veal chop was moist and tender. That butter sauce...I can't say enough! For my wife's dish, the lemon sauce was amazing. Great flavor and the chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. Finally, for dessert, we decided to get two choices to take home and eat out on the deck. Homemade Apple Crisp and Traditional Tiramisu. I didn't capture a picture since we got them in a couple of takeout boxes but both were amazing. The Tiramisu was flavorful and the Apple Crisp was definitely my favorite. So nice to have a great Italian option nearby. I'm looking forward to my next visit for more!

Yelp
I was very surprised by this gem. Reading reviews I was expecting a little "mom & pop" cafe. Surprised to find not the case. I would call this more towards fine dining. If I had been wearing street clothes I would have been uncomfortable. The food was wonderful. We had the fig pizza, special ravioli and the burger. The fries were excellent. The fig jam and burrata on pizza were scrumptious. The service was excellent. Everything was timed well.

Yelp
The entry to the restaurant can be confusing. The door facing the street was lock. You have to go to the side door across from the daycare. It appeal to be a nice family establishment with lots of local customers. The food was tasty. the prices were a little on the high side. The portion were reasonable. The service was good. I would dine here again.

Yelp
Love this spot. It's in our neighborhood. We are lucky. Great staff. Consistently good food.

Yelp
I've had dinner at Andiamo a few times and each experience has been great. The food and drink, service, and ambiance are all among the best in the area. Most recently I tried the Ficchi pizza which was an excellent blend of sweet, salty, and savory. The pizza is big enough to share with someone else or have by yourself with some leftovers to take home. I have also enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli and the chicken parmigiana. I enjoy the cocktails as much as the food. Their espresso martini is the best I've ever had since it comes with a double shot of fresh espresso. They serve it dark but can add Baileys upon request. There are gluten-free options for pizza and pasta which I have not tried but it's great that they're an option.

Yelp
Their food is amazing. For me, I eat with eyes first and they nailed it. The taste and value are really good. They are very relaxed too, so if you come very hungry it's a bad move. Making a reservation, you need to make sure you need a table if you need it. They have an equal amount of bar chairs and tables. And the table ran out very fast. The restaurant was very tidy and cozy. I love how they don't rush us to get out when there isn't one lined up. The only criticism is the host has an attitude problem when we give them feedback about telling the patron when they need a table. Because not everyone knows about the limited amount and my father-in-law is disabled so he needs a table. Overall, everyone was happy with all the food, and the waitress

Yelp
We were in town for a softball tourney and this place was hopping! I figured that many people couldn't be wrong, so we decided to give it a shot. It did not disappoint. My son eats the same two things everywhere we go: pizza or pasta. Those dishes don't typically come with a side, but here you can get fries with your pasta! It's the little things that make a kids day. My chicken marsala was good, but I've gotta skip straight to the dessert charcuterie board. If that was the last thing I ate before I died, I'd be okay with it! It came with brownies, chocolate chip cookies, cheese, vanilla cake, cannoli chips, and assorted dips. It's probably a good thing I don't have an Andiamo's near where I live because I'd be as big as a house! Seriously, RUN there and get that board!

Yelp
Great food - I had salmon on tagliatelle & spouse had chicken piccata with linguine. Both were perfectly cooked with excellent classical Italian flavors. Low key, casual atmosphere. It was a Thursday night, we made a res. but prolly didn't need one but on weekends who knows. Service was great.

Lorna M.

Yelp
Great lunch...salads and pizzas! Good service, attentive, didn't feel rushed. Terrific atmosphere.

Renee M.

Yelp
Went tonight. My favorite entree, butternut squash ravioli, was taken off the menu. I was shocked! So I tried the vegetarian risotto. Not so good. Too many vegetables, not enough risotto.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
This was the last straw. My husband and I have been going to Andiamo's for years, it was our favorite spot. Something changed over the last year, and every time we go, it's gotten worse and worse. We went in on Saturday afternoon. The hostess, who was also our waitress was extremely overwhelmed. There were several large parties and she was huffy from the start. She was upset at the time, we got there at about 3:20 and she said she had a party at 4:45. I told her we wouldn't take that long, we never have, usually an hour, max. We sat down and she rushed us for our order (literally, the second we sat down, we didn't look at the menu yet) I ordered the antipasto plate, which was really good. We didn't know what we wanted for drinks yet, so we took a second, she was not happy about this. She came back about 15 minutes later, again in a huff, to take our drink order. We asked if we could order dinner also. We were trying to be respectful of her, and the party that was coming in next. I ordered my go to (Chicken Milanese) my husband ordered a burger * Well Done * this is important to remember. When the food finally came out, his burger was completely RAW. My Milanese looked like butter soup, to the point I poured half of the butter soup off of my plate, onto another plate that was on our table (because she didn't remove anything) I refused to eat it, it looked absolutely disgusting. Apparently, in the last few weeks they changed their menu and it now comes with a different pasta, and the sauce, which was once a white cream like sauce is now yellow, like melted butter, that wont stick to the noodle. When the waitress came back to check on things, about 15 minutes after the food was delivered, I questioned the changes (mostly the butter soup) and was met with major attitude. She tried to rush away, but my husband spoke up about his raw burger. She responded (again, with attitude) "I told them well done, that's not my fault" Regardless, his order was made incorrectly, and the butter soup wasn't what I ordered. I'm disappointed, this was our go to restaurant for several years. I don't know what changed over the last year or so, but those changes are not good.

Yelp
Rachel did a fantastic job of steering us into a lots of great good. Quiet Sunday evening. Great food. Had the mixed antipasto plate and added a burette ball that was the size of a softball. All good but more than enough to serve 4. Had the last of two winter specials. Short ribs with short rib ravioli and duck confit carbonara. All excellent. Second time here. Won't be my last.

Jay S.

Yelp
Excellent once again. The antipasti appetizer easily is enough for four and it is a fantastic collection of meats, cheeses and more. My go to meal is the veal chop - excellent! Only improvement is I order scotch rocks and they seem to be too perfect- they use to be generous pours.

Yelp
I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, picture my surprise when I ordered the "FICCHI Pizza" off the pizza menu and ... BRUHHH THIS PIZZA HITS!! I cannot explain how good this thing was. Not only the pizza but, the ambiance was super cool. Most importantly... there was parking right in front.

Yelp
Food excellent plus service is fast and very experienced server. I have been here 2 days in the row and giving them 5 stars

Yelp
Food was great . Do you know the eggplant stack is a great appetizer. The grilled shrimp salad was really good. Tanya is great . She goes out of her way every time we are here. .

Yelp
Last weekend we hosted a Birthday Celebration for our daughter. The Event Manager, Victor Antolini assisted us in the planning and was more than helpful with various questions in the days preceding the event. The new GM, Christopher greeted us as we arrived. His professionalism helped set the mood for a successful gathering. The Event Room was set up perfectly for the size of our group. Our food and beverage server, Stephenie E was absolutely amazing checking with us frequently throughout the afternoon to ensure that all of our requests were answered. Our food choices were all terrific and it would be difficult to say which entree we liked the best! We will definitely consider Andiamo's for our next Family Event!

Yelp
Lots of great options on this menu, stopped in for a quick lunch, Got the burger, this was no ordinary burger, delicious with the crispy pork belly and the aged cheddar. Just what I was looking for! And nice to get a refreshing glass of ice tea. I'll be back for dinner soon.

Yelp
Lovely find! Delicious food, good service and great prices! Highly recommend! Handmade pizzas are large enough for two to share and yummy!
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
The staff: delightful. The ambiance: casual but put together. The food: delicious. The drinks: also delicious. I had the swordfish which came with a lemon risotto and broccolini, twas exceptional. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Best chocolate bread pudding on the planet! The pizza was great too but OMG the bread pudding.

ziggy d.

Yelp
Large portions do not make up for quality of entrees. Would rather have an entree 1/2 the size and have it be edible.Very good appetizers. Waitress went MIA after dropping the check.
google avatar

Ranjini S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here. The meatball appetizer was very flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the eggplant because it felt too spongy to me but my friend loved the texture. The staff is extremely friendly and informative. The restaurant has more of a sports bar feel than a typical Italian restaurant. Definitely worth a trip, or two, to try out their fare.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
My husband & I went here for date night. We sat at the bar. I ordered a mocktail. When I ordered it I pointed at the mocktail. After drinking about half the drink I felt strange. I told my husband that I felt buzzed. He checked the bar slip & the name of the " mocktail" was different. We called the bartender over to ask what she gave me. She mentioned a different drink name. I asked her if my drink had alcohol in it. She said that it had Tito's. I told her I ordered & pointed to a mocktail. She felt awful but after checking the slip not awful enough to take the wrong drink off the bill. I didn't even enjoy my food because I felt sick. I don't drink. She made a comment that this isn't the first time because the names are similar. The names of non alcoholic drinks should be way different so this doesn't happen. What If I was an alcoholic this could have had a very negative effect on me. I'm very disappointed in this restaurant because I wrote to them afterwards and I haven't even received a response.

Deb G.

Yelp
Unfortunately tonight has been a disappointing experience. Came for a birthday dinner- menu seems to be reduced- don't see some of our past favs. Cocktails were terrible! Hubby's Woodford's Old Fashion was a FRACTION of past servings, my fav Blood Orange Martini was SOUR and barely any liquor. Burrata ... lacking. Will Say that the meatball app was still delish- the only highlight of the night. TOO EXPENSIVE FOR QUALITY AND PORTION
google avatar

Yelp
This is the first time we've been to this location. We moved to West Coast in 2015 from Mass and we used to love Andiamos in Newburyport which has since closed. So glad the food and service was as good as I remembered. We shared the caprese salad and chicken Parmesan-both delicious. The chicken portion is huge! Very decent wine list and full bar.
google avatar

K D.

Yelp
The food was lovely. Our server Max was not the best. He served our drinks, then appetizer. And he only returned once, to take away our menus. He passed us no less than 6 times, servicing the tables around us. Never asked if we'd like entrees, or another drink. When it was time to go, we had to flag him to the table. It was quite odd.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Service was extremely slow, however, friendly. Meal was not as expected sauce was bitter and overly stuffed with garlic. Clean and simple the meal was not as expected. It is not that I would not recommend this location however I would think twice. For me personally my next visit to the area will not include dinner at this restaurant.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Great food and service! Delicious mocktails, great kids menu, and delicious food. Wish our kids weren't so tired and we could have tried dessert!

Dan W.

Yelp
Fantastic dinner last night and the service from Max was top notch. We were with friends we had not seen in a while, so it took us a little time to order. We were not rushed and Max gave us our space, but was right there when we had any questions. He has a great personality and is very knowledgeable of the menu. This is becoming our go to place when we are looking for a good meal in a great atmosphere.

Joseph P.

Yelp
The portions range from small to large for the same price. My wife had the butternut squash ravioli and I had the chicken parmigiana which were similarly priced but her portion was a third of mine. While both delicious that's odd to me. The meatballs and Brussels sprouts were excellent also but pricey. Their signature dish, the bolognese, is the worst I have ever had. Honestly! Absolutely no flavor at all. Everything else was outstanding as well as the deserts.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Came out tonight 2/23/24 for dinner. Nothing short of amazing. Julia took care of us and she was fantastic. Her personality was top notch and was extremely personable. We have come to Andiamo more times than we can count and are always satisfied with their food and service. Thank you for another great evening Andiamo!

Barbara A.

Yelp
Food delicious - and service excellent. Nice atmosphere and quiet.Several different choices and all good.

Yelp
Have now had three bad experiences at Andiamo. Probably won't try it again. Due to the bad experiences the first two times, I just got a Caesar salad thinking that would be a safe route. The portion was small, which didn't matter because the greens were wilted and few a bit brown on the edges. The dressing tasted store bought. And they included a SINGLE anchovy. Pretty pathetic looking salad. The single anchovy was comical at least. My coworkers margarita pizza was ice cold and said the sauce tasted like it was out of a can. The "superfood" salad bowl or whatever it's called was 90% greens with a comical dusting of quinoa and other ingredients that reminded me of my single anchovy. Another coworkers grilled chicken breast didn't look like it had been tenderized or prepped at all. Just a thick ball of dense chicken. No one in the group left happy!

Craig S.

Yelp
Menu is very limited, food was good not great, took long for drinks to arrive, service was pretty good, seating is too close to bar area which takes away from ambiance.

Chris G.

Yelp
The service and ambience is great. I went last week and the first pictured pizza was great, I went tonight and the second pizza was terrible, should not have been served, not sure how you allow that in the restaurant. I had chicken parm on my first visit also, it was the best I've ever had. I don't know how a restaurant this good has two totally different pizzas, and allows the second one to be served. Having said this I will definitely be back for the pasta.
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
Got takeout. 2 Caesar salads. Lettuce, stale croutons and overcooked chicken. Total was $47. Absolute, 100% total rip-off.
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
Because we were on a road trip with our poochie, we needed some light take-out travel fare. Andiamo's was a perfect choice. Service was efficient ad friendly. I ordered a roasted beet salad which was fresh and had lots of beets. My husband ordered a ceasar salad with hanger steak. He said that the steak was especially tasty and tender. All in all a good dinner. We would like to return and explore more choices.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite local haunts. It's the kind of place where there's a lot of regulars, it's good to call ahead to see if you can get a table, and there's usually not much room at the bar. So if you like a cocktail, there's one particular drink that my wife really enjoys. It's called a Portini. I have to say it's a winner. I myself enjoy their old-fashioned and their Manhattan. The cocktail area itself is vibrant, and there's always a lot of hustle and bustle. The creative and add an element of excitement overall and nice atmosphere.

Curlyy B.

Yelp
Nice and clean, just went to have a drink and watch the game we ordered the charcuterie board and some drinks
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
Fantastic meal! We had a reservation and were promptly seated on arrival. This location is modern and tastefully decorated, love the atmosphere with sizable bar, but not so noisy on a crowded Sat night. Drinks were wonderful and the Antipasto plate is amazing, loaded with meats & cheese, etc. not the skimpy ones most place serve. For entrees we went with Veal Saltimbocca & Veal Marsala, each served with fresh spaghetti. They prepare with veal chop and it was best veal we have ever eaten! Overall a great experience, we will be back for sure.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
I come to the Andover area about once every other month and am always looking to try something different. For Italian, Andiamo absolutely hits the mark. They have several choices of cocktails and wines on their menu but also a full bar. For a starter I had the fried calamari that has a subtlety sweet flavor to it with small bits of crispy basil. It was very good. For my main, I decided to go with the rigatoni with bolognese and it was excellent. Great flavor and more than ample helping of meat in the sauce. The wait staff was friendly and the ambiance inside wasn't overly loud. My only reason for four stars instead of five was due to their prices. For pasta, it was a bit expensive. As for wine, there wasn't a bottle in 45 if my memory serves and a couple of them I know I could purchase for about 8-10. Overall, great experience and food. I'd go back for sure.
google avatar

Martha D.

Yelp
The food and service was wonderful! We took my 6 year old granddaughter and she loved it! We will definitely be back as a larger family group again!

Yelp
This place is a great pizza place with a menu... but that is it. And that can be a great thing. But if you are looking for anything more, don't expect it here. Servers are basic, and their understanding of food or this menu is primal at best. But in a pinch, it is a good Roadhouse. But do not expect miracles. Beer on tap, well cocktails or the house wines are the farthest you can push it safely! (I especially enjoyed our server explaining bolognese as a meat sauce... but not with real pieces of meat?) Enjoy with an open mind... lol.
google avatar

Ailynda W.

Yelp
Duck carbonara was very salty, I left with my tongue still numbed from the saltiness. I ordered a margarita for my drink. When I saw my bill that they charged $18 for that margarita, I was shocked. It was served in a small short cocktail glass so $18 was way too pricey for it. This restaurant seemed to focus on reservations more than walk in customers. Two stars was for the squash ravioli which was very tasty (the portion was very small). They should consider this item as their starter instead of entree. The service was ok, nothing impressive. I won't be going back.

Yelp
I would not recommend this restaurant. I recently placed an online order for pickup and noted that I have a broccoli and nut allergy. The chef read the note as add broccoli. When I got home and saw the dish, I immediately called the restaurant. The gentleman I spoke to was rude and told me to call for an order next time if I have so many food allergies. He offered to remake the dish, which I agreed to. My husband returned to picked up the order and was spoken to very rudely. For a place that depends on customers for it's livelihood, it's very surprising the attitude and approach of this situation. I can accept a mistake was made but I don't believe either myself or my husband should have been treated disrespectfully and rudely.

Yelp
It was so good until he opened a second location, which I have not been to yet. I am reviewing Chelmsford. Last chance we gave it, the hostess was wearing so much patchouli I couldn't smell the food. That was the biggest turnoff and I'm really surprised she wasn't told to go home to shower and come back without perfume on. The bacon jam burger was always a favorite, eggplant tower delish but he fell victim to what happens many times once another location opens - when the cats away....

Yelp
Food was amazing- I ate here multiple times during my stay in Andover. The staff at the bar were so nice and easy to talk to. Would recommend to anyone in Andover. It does get very busy come dinner time though so get there early!

Yelp
Large portions of delicious food. The pasta was a perfect al dente, almost chewy with some substance. Chicken Parm was huge, and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend this place!
