On the Grid : Nomad Library

"Great place for pretending your Winston Churchill meeting your key policy advisor. Besides the tasty (and pricey) cocktails, the bar is a perfectly refined & snazzy setting if you're up for that type of evening." - Anti/Anti

We are so incredibly lucky to have this unique library here in NYC . You can learn Braille here for free . Make an appt to use the 3D printer . You can even Have books delivered to your home if your disability meets the requirements . They have a lovely little outside terrace and there is even a baby changing table in the children’s area . Go here to see Braille books and many others . Lots of places to sit and park the stroller . All are welcome here & the staff will help you find what it is you are looking for . Libraries are such a wonderful place to learn and grow ! Go see this place .

This is a great resource for the visually impaired. The staff are helpful and volunteers can read to the blind in peace.

Awesome little library 📚 Superb children area with tones of books Always organized and well kept. I go to this library a lot and recommend it for all. Story time all week long for little ones. Overall just a very nice quiet place to be surrounded with book 📚

After going to some other public libraries in the area, this one is lacking in stuff but also, pleasantly, lacking in people and strong odors. I'd come back when I need a place to sit for a bit and work or read. There are nice couches that are comfortable and not too beat up. It's nice and quiet. There are only a few seats with table space, but again, the not crowdedness seems to mean that even the few seats are enough. There's a public computer lab and free wifi. The bathrooms are relatively clean.

A very quiet, but friendly library. A good place for doing some work too. There is a lot of free workplaces around, especially in the first floor. Bring your kid! There is a playing room for kids near the entrance.

This is a very well kept public library. They have a activities for kids and babies through the week and the staff is engaged and nice. My daughter loves the kids area and the storytelling sessions.

Some of the staff are rude and unhelpful. (One older lady was super nice). The attitude , in general, is not what you expect from library employees. Not going there again unless I absolutely have to.

Il has lots of areas to set up shop and study or get some work done. The areas have outlets and internet jacks, so there is no problem with bringing your laptop.

Yelp
Staff is curt and often rude. Babies and toddlers have free reign, screaming at the top of their lungs. Ineffective nannies think it's cute. Patrons converse on cell phones despite signage. Bathroom is disgusting. Lous outdated dot matrix printer in a room with door that may not be closed to muffle the sound. Not the place to go if you want to get serious work done. A waste of taxpayer funds.

Yelp
This library is fantastic. The only place like it in the entire city for braille resources. Chancey and her team are phenomenal.

Yelp
NYPL resonates good reads and appreciation for books. Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library targets the blind and visually impaired, but the public is welcome. This branch may be small in size but it has a strong presence to the visually impaired and to the public. Since childhood I always admire libraries for the tranquility and space for studying and working in solitude. Modern cushion chairs and lounge couches are ample available. Clean and welcoming environment. In the 2015 digital age era, sadly, no one value traditional libraries and books but I am unique and still patronize libraries. Information is power and knowledge is rooted in books. Come book worm hungry. From now until it is now again as my library card expiration of three year draws near, renewal was simple and quick. Note: NYPL library card is valid for three years which all library card holders must renew in person.

Yelp
This library is tiny (2 small floors) and I don't think many people know about this place. This library is for the blind so all of the books are either braille or audio books. This library is a great place to study and get some work done. It's super quiet and it doesn't get the same amount of traffic as the other libraries. I think that's because there are no books for us seeing folk, and I didn't see any internet workstations. They even have an outdoor terrace if you wanna get some readin done. I think they lock it when it's not in season. They also have a 5 gal water cooler with paper cups by the bathroom vs serving us NYC tap water. (I hope they just refill it from the tap, because the water tastes fine and it's going green!)

Yelp
If I could give the customer service at this place zero stars, I would. The staff at this location are AWFUL people. Such terrible attitudes. I come there often to do school work and I witness the way the front desk staff treat patrons. They are so complacent, lazy and downright rude. What's sad is that it's almost expected at institutions like this in NYC nowadays. I mean, I know a lot of people come through there, and many of them pretty trashy at that, so I assume the staff has their guard up at all times, even for the quality patrons. But when asking for a simple pencil sharpener is met with complete dismissiveness and attitude, it's kind of hard to swallow. Where is the person-to person connection? I don't think I've ever had a good customer service experience with libary staff in NYC. They're all so terrible. What really got me (and is the reason I'm writing this) was what happened to me this week at this library: I went there on Saturday to do some studying and realized when I got home that I left the adapter to my laptop there. I immediately thought, "there's no way I'm getting that back." I still called and left a message on the voicemail about my problem. I mean, it was literally plugged in at one of the tables there next to the front desk, and I left an hour before they closed for the weekend, and my computer is old so it's highly unlikely that someone could even use the adapter, so it's likely that they could've just grabbed it and set it aside. Easy right? In an ideal world, the staff would be helpful and polite and call me back on Monday saying something to the effect of "yes we have it. We're holding it for you." I'm still waiting for that phone call. But like I said, I'm completely not surprised. It doesn't really matter because the adapter is like $8 to replace because the computer model is so old. But its the principle of the whole thing. Wouldn't it be great if you could really expect them to help you? Really expect these jerks to care more about the people that come in there?! They probably just threw it in the trash. These people don't care about you. You're just another jerk coming in their library. They will not jump to help you. At best you'll get dirty looks for interrupting their candy crush game.

Yelp
I come to this library at least once, sometimes twice, a week because it's convenient to my office. It's a library for the blind, and not too many people come here, so there usually isn't a line at check-out like other libraries. I use this library mostly to pick up and return material I've reserved, and I have used the computer room occasionally. I usually check out/return materials right before closing time, and the staff are pretty nice about it. The bathroom is fairly big. There is also an automatic hand sanitizer at the door of the library, which is good.

Yelp
Great place to get some studying done. I guess because it has braille/ large print/ audio books, it't not really crowded. Found some great cook books. Don't know what's on the 2nd floor or that there's a terrace, but I'll be back to find out some day.

Yelp
Love the NYPL, but wish there was an after-hours book drop-off. The hours are tough with my work schedule.

Yelp
This library is for the blind but everyone is welcome. There are braille, large print, and audio books available for use. The cushion chairs are comfy and clean; this library doesn't seem like a public place because it's clean and not crowded (definitely not complaining, but I find it peacefully odd). This is a great place for studying since it's so quiet. The book selections are very limited. Wifi is available for free.

Yelp
i guess word on the street hasn't gotten out about this library yet because this is one of the few city libraries that doesn't have a lot of crazies. although small, there is barely anyone here. cool lounge chairs, a few tables, and a well lit environment. to top it off, blazing wifi. highly recommend bringing headphones though. ironically, the security guard and the 1980s dot matrix printer are disturbingly loud.

Yelp
my computer is in the shop so i really wanted to go to a library and use a public one. unfortunately, you need an access card supposedly and they were all busy when i went. bummer. the second floor was roped off. the selection is for the blind so very very very small. there were barely any seating. the pluses are wifi, AC, and public restroom i guess, go if you have everything you need. its a really peaceful library

Yelp
This library is small, but hey, it's got free wifi and air conditioning in the summer, so can you really complain? The bathroom is very clean too. I just wish they had more tables and chairs for folks.
