Oops, I did it again, and I'm feeling very guilty. I loved, and I didn't share it with you when it first happened. Like a secret relationship at the office, or perhaps more similar to buying your favorite cookies, and keeping it all to yourself. In my case, it's the "Grilled Beer & Cheese night" at Andrew's. Attended March 23, 2012 (shhhh, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/andrews-cheese-shop-santa-monica?select=QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ#QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ), and again, last week April 5, 2013. Well, it's time to spill the beer.
It's already a difficult ticket. 24 lucky people can reserve/pay ($45) for a spot at the 1-2x per month event (see calendar online and/or join the mailing list). The doors are closed and you're locked in with cheese for an intimate evening. Andrew is the host, and with two of his talented staff, prepare a feast of 5 pairings...open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches with pours of various brews.
Slowly, a cadence was created of one grilled heaven matched with a specially chosen beer, from mildest to strongest, and ending with sweet -- generous seconds are offered for everything...but be careful not to get too full, or too tipsy, too quickly! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/andrews-cheese-shop-santa-monica?select=QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ#aiG9OrPSwLD9pinkuQqTtw
For cheese-lovers, beer enthusiasts, foodies, or just looking for something special to do for dates or with friends, this is a yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes event. Just inside the front door, a long sharing table is setup with a white tablecloth, candles, the ever-glow of cheese display cases. Surrounded by shelves of fine wines, beers, packages goodness or one side, and to the other -- the cheese. The setting feels very unique and VIP, and leaves one feeling with "Can I stay and rent a space to sit in the corner for a month?"
Andrew and his cheeses -- are lovely anyway. So whether you come on to get your cheese-on, pickup a sandwich on the way to the beach, or come to an event -- it's all good.
I left beyond satisfied, tummy protruding, and also, very nervous that anyone who got near me would have no idea of the event I attended. Good Lord -- I smelled like I lived on the streets -- pppppuuuuuuuu. So, don't plan on continuing your evening by going to a bar, Father's Office, or otherwise. But, do plan on trying this out soon before I go a third time and just have to brag some more.
Secrets no more. I apologize.
