16 LA Restaurants That Are Perfect For Your Picnic - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s hard to walk into Andrew’s Cheese in Santa Monica without learning something new. Head cheesemonger/owner Andrew will probably be behind the counter - and he’s always willing to talk about all his latest selections. Order a small hunk of whatever sounds good, and pick up a bottle from the solid selection of wines here, too. It’s a short walk to Palisades Park, or drive up to Rustic Canyon Park." - brett keating

The Best Spots For Cheese & Charcuterie In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Over in Santa Monica, stop by Andrew’s Cheese Shop for a wide variety of artisan cheeses, olive oil, wine, and fancy grab-and-go sandwiches. This much-beloved specialty store has been around since 2008 and quickly became a staple of the neighborhood, much like the term “farm-to-table” or the flocks of Bird scooters you’ll see speeding around at any given time. There’s always a decently sized line here, their crunchy baguettes are second to none, and you can always count on the people behind the counter to show you something fun and unique." - kat hong

One of the worst experiences in this type of small-business, customer-centric establishment that I have ever had. Do not put people in customer-facing roles if they cannot speak to the products you are selling and have a cordial conversation with customers, especially if your product is overpriced. I asked the clerk to talk me through the cheeses and expressed what I was interested in flavor wise and texture wise. I am admittedly not super well versed in cheese. That is why I went to this store - to get some guidance on what I might like. Unfortunately, the man behind the counter was rude, uninterested, and condescending. Ultimately, I chose a cheese at random and bought it, just to end the interaction quicker. When I saw the total was $35 for 8oz of cheese, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. I am one who can appreciate an upcharge for superior service and quality, especially in supporting a small business. Had the man been more respectful to me, I would have purchased a more significant amount of product, given how interesting and unique the store's selection of provisions is. Unfortunately, I think the deli section at Whole Foods is a better experience than what I got at this store. I will be saving my money next time. If you are looking for an alternative cheese and wine store on the nearby, I recommend the Beverly Hills Cheese Store. Much better service, and at the same price.

Google
Overdue review for Andrew’s Cheese Shop! Went to a beer and cheese night in October 2024 and it was a fun experience. Since then, have become a member of the monthly cheese club subscription and it never disappoints. If you’re ever looking to entertain and want to get a nice selection of cheese and accompaniments I would highly recommend!

Google
I can't tell you how happy this Reuben sandwich makes me, it is really that good! Heated in their panini press, the pastrami, the sauerkraut, the bread, the Russian dressing, and of course the cheese, it is a cheese shop! All of it, it's so simple and so perfect! I drive across LA, in traffic, at least twice a month just for this Reuben sandwich! Come early because it is first come with a limited supply, fresh everyday! I also get an Italian to go for later, they're also that good! Hey they have an incredible selection of cheese from around the world too, just sayin!

Kory Kappel

Google
The reuben sandwich was decent, not as good as something like Langer's. It was served unevenly heated (cheese was still a little cold).

Google
Yet another wish for a 10/5 star rating! This is such a wonderful shop, with wonderful staff, and especially, of course, a wonderful Andrew! If you aren't getting your cheese (and wine, and other condiments) from here, you're missing out. And if you're not doing their monthly cheese club delivery, you really have to. Every cheese is always perfect, and it's always delivered with care — Andrew has regularly gone above and beyond to make sure we receive it safely, and somehow it's almost like he telepathically knows when we need it the most, because it always appears at the perfect time! Do yourself a favour and go to Andrew's Cheese Shop, and join their cheese club.

Google
This is the place to go for cheese in Santa Monica! The employees are super knowledgeable and will help you out. There are lots of rare cheese available you would normally not find places, along with some pates, charcuterie, sauces, beers, and wines. A true gem!

Google
Wish I could give this shop 6/5 stars. They have a fantastic selection of cheeses, cured meats, wines, beers, and other gourmet foods. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and always very helpful with any questions or selecting products. I highly recommend their cheese of the month club, which provides a fantastic, curated selection of cheeses with ample information about each, all at a reasonable price. I truly credit this shop with sparking a passion for both eating and learning more about cheese. While they carry an impressive selection of imported products, I also appreciate the very deliberate showcasing of American-made cheeses and meats, not only through the wide variety carried in store, but also through the cheese of the month selection. Truly the best shop on Montana Ave!

Andrew

Google
I went to the Beer and Grilled Cheese night and have shopped here several times. It’s clear that Andrew is a true expert on all things cheese, and this shop is very well curated. I always feel like I’m going to bring home something new and delicious when I come here. The live event was fun, especially learning new things about beer making, although I would have loved to try some more exotic cheeses. At this specialty shop, everything comes at a premium, so don’t expect a bargain. You pay for the expertise and recommendation of the staff.

Yelp
Our first time visiting this cheese shop and it won't be our last! They have a case for hard cheeses, a case for soft cheeses, all the possible accoutrements you could want for a cheese board, and very knowledgeable staff to assist. Our daughter picked a brillat-savarin and a comte. My husband asked the person helping us if she could suggest an accessible blue, and since our other cheeses were French, she's suggested St Agur. As far as blue cheeses go, it wasn't terrible - more salty than moldy tasting (I am not a fan of blue cheese). We also purchased some calabrese and a box of Rustic Bakery citrus, ginger & thyme artisan crisps. Everything was delicious (well, I still don't know about the blue, but it was at least relatively inoffensive). We'll definitely be back to try more cheeses

Yelp
This is an expensive gourmet cheese shop I expect top notch service and they should provide similar experiences to other like cheese shops. When they first opened the experience was amazing from Andrew and all his team. That experience is not there anymore. I guess they feel they have a captive audience now. The good, they have a vast selection of gourmet cheese from around the world. Most of the staff is knowledgeable about their cheeses. The bad: you can't try the cheese before you buy it. I have never been to a cheese shop that I cannot try before I buy. I have brought home too many cheeses that I did not like from them. All would have been avoided if I tried it first. As I am writing this I am throwing away one cheese we did not like and tolerating another. Total waste of money. They would not sell me small quantities of cheese, I think the minimum was 1/4 lb, can't remember. I was putting a cheese plate together for my wife and wanted to get six different cheeses but that would have been way too much cheese because of their minimum weight per cheese. They need to change their policies I will get my cheese elsewhere.

Yelp
An excellent selection of cheese and some very good sandwiches are available at Andrew's Cheese Shop. It's a small spot on Montana Ave in Santa Monica, and for those of us in the neighborhood it's the best local place for cheese. They offer several varieties from various countries, as well as all manner of accoutrements on various tables and shelves in the shop. The staff is helpful if you need advice. They suggested an excellent Brabander Goat Gouda to pair with a sour beer tasting I was going to, and it was a great match. I really like the pre-made sandwiches in the cooler at the back of the store. They're decently sized and priced around $12, not huge deli sandwiches selling for $20. The use great bread (baguettes & rye), firm and crunchy, and the various fillings are of good quality. The reuben, salmon & cream cheese, caprese and prosciutto sandwiches are all excellent. They have a short but strong wine and beer list, with a good selection of German and Belgian ales. Give Andrew's a try for all of your cheese needs, and pick up a sandwich while you're at it!

Yelp
They don't let you taste the cheese. If I'm going to spend $300-$500 for a party cheese plate, I want to know what I'm selecting. Go to the BH cheese store. It's the real deal. Also it takes the entire joy out of going to a cheese store if you can't taste the cheese. I was going to spend $300 on a cheese plate today. They lost my business. I won't come back. No Joy. I just read another review. He said it always feels like a bummer going to this store. And that it needs more positive energy. I feel the exact same way, and have for years. I will never go back again.

Yelp
Decent selection of cheese and other packaged foods. Still very Covid-shielded. But what's really annoying is: tips? They ask for tips in their tablet when you pay? Come on. Not OK. Not going back.

Yelp
Everyone loves Andrew's sandwiches . The staff is very patient for a new Cheese lover. Very relaxed atmosphere. There are so many items that go great with cheese. Andrew is the a Cheese and pairing expert in these parts. Try there special cheese dinner for up to 20 people. Everyone loves what Andrew and the staff serve them.

Yelp
Very much a fan. Helpful staff. Let me try free samples. Felt slightly rushed but only because this place is nearly always busy. Great atmosphere and selection of niche/craft products. Love this place!

Yelp
Stopped in here for My 1st time. I bought a Chocolate Bar, Mortadella & Spanish cheese. Soooo Good! Good customer service. I am going to B a Regular @ this Spot!!

Yelp
What an absolute delight of a shop! I called up ahead for my husband's birthday (As he loves charcuterie!), in preparation to go on a long weekend trip. They recommended a couple of bento boxes which included 3 cheeses and 3 meats, as well as some accoutrements to go with the spread. The recommendations were exquisite, as was the bottle of white wine they recommended to accompany the selections. My husband loved it and could not stop raving about the cheese, meat, and pairings. We can't wait to come back again to try more!!

Yelp
Solid sandwich. All ready for you to just grab and go. Cheese is very tasty. Appreciate the speed of the staff. It's a little cramped and hectic inside for me but this is a great option when you're just trying to grab a quick bit.

Greg S.

Yelp
A special spot on Montana with amazing selection and a great staff that can suggest exactly what you need for whatever the occasion. And it's always nice to know if you need a sandwich they are there. The Italian and salmon are favorites.

Yelp
Attended a wine and grilled cheese event last night. Consisted of a tiny salad and 4 grilled cheese on one half piece of bread. Wine glasses were tiny and very small pours and ok wine. No print out of what we're eating. No ice and no WiFi-in fact when I asked Andrew "the owner" his response, I don't know it! I almost walked out, thinking how rude! The ambiance was dry and boring jammed into a small cheese shop. He charged 100.00 per person..for 4 pieces of toast, cheese and protein plus cheap wine..not like cellar wine...we feel like it was 50.00 per person cost not 100..plus tips...

Yelp
I came to Andrew and his team with a very last minute charcuterie and crudite catering request. They were all extremely helpful over the phone, were able to give me full, detailed pricing, and were able to deliver to us on such short notice. We also needed a cracker selection and we had no time to go into the shop to pick things out, but Andrew's team picked out a great selection on us with the budget we gave. Excellent customer service and perfect presentation. I will absolutely be going to Andrew for all future charcuterie needs. Hopefully further in advance next time, but I seriously appreciate their quick service from this time.

Christine S.

Yelp
Such service, such knowledge. If he doesn't have it, he'll likely get it for you! I had a 3-month membership with him. He delivered to me in Northridge!! The box had not only the cheese selections, all great, but also beautiful cards about the regions they came from and other interesting info. I was introduced to many new cheeses, some of which I still buy. A cheese of the month club from Andrew is a great gift idea!

Meghan M.

Yelp
I really wanted to give my business to a local cheese shop and get a small selection of cheeses to bring to a picnic. I was met with very rude staff informing me that they don't do that. The information was delivered in such a rude way and it felt like I was bothering them. It feels like a black cloud walking in here and it does not spark joy. They have a cute selection but they need to work on their customer service. Happy holidays.

Helen M.

Yelp
No cheese samples . Every cheese shoppe I've ever been to gives samples . The owner and employee were not nice , very surprising .
google avatar

Alexa M.

Yelp
We stumbled on this cheese shop just walking around in Santa Monica and wowwww. The selection of cheese they have here is incredible. We tried the OG Kristal and an incredible truffle cheese. Both of them were insane but the OG Kristal cheese literally melted in your mouth but also crunched from the little sugar crystals in the cheese. They also have an amazing selection of other items as well, I could have browsed in their shop for hours. Absolutely fantastic, we'll definitely be back for more.

Jeff P.

Yelp
If you have not been to Andrew's Cheese Shop then run, don't walk. A great little shop with everything you need for Happy Hour, dinner or anything else. Great cheese selection I have not seen elsewhere. Andrew and the team will do all the recommending based on your plans, pairings, and number of people. Also, great wine and beer selection. They are a KCRW Fringe Benefits supporter so you can get a discount if you are a member. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Small but mighty! This shoppe has it all! Accouterments, cheese galore, wines for days, crackers too. It's a dinner party haven. I also believe they have chocolate! And who doesn't love a fancy chocolate bar to justify the craving? We've picked up cheeses here and it's a delight. Their selection is truly for foodie fans. Varieties abound. They also carry seasonal caviar. Amazing! The woman working on our most recent visit said that they have occasional dinners in the space for local patrons. I joined the email list to see if I can catch an invite & just received the first event list for a gourmet grill cheese gathering Regardless pop in, get your cheese fix, and sign up as well. If anywhere is to put on a gourmet event, or to help you put on your own at home, it's Andrews cheese shop.

Angela T.

Yelp
Wonderful shop and the best cheese platters! I really enjoy the information cards provided as you can learn much about where the cheese is from and how it's made.
google avatar

Joffrey W.

Yelp
Attended a beer & grilled cheese tasting at the shop, and was very impressed with the pairings and Andrew's vast knowledge. It was an Oktoberfest theme that was presented in a delicious and approachable manner. I highly recommend attending one of his tastings, and plan to be a repeat participant. 5 stars for Andrew and his store.

M F.

Yelp
I specifically asked for a mild Camembert for my mother. I was told the one they sold me was mild. By the time I got to my destination the car smelled horrible which should not be the case. I was sold very expensive cheese that was bad. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Egg O.

Yelp
Went in to buy a few pieces of cheese. My plan was to buy 5 or 6 pieces....I left with 10 pieces *blush* they have a wonderful selection of cheese. Some you can get portions of and some you must buy the entire cheese. Well I did a bit of both and 100 bucks later I left completely happy with James's selection of cheese. He was very helpful and fun! Thanks james!! Will definitely be back!!!!
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
You can't beat this place and if you blink you may just miss it.... tucked into a little store front on Montana here is your one stop shop for all cheeses, wines, mustards, pickles, and homemade SANDWICHES (Turkey, Salmon, Portobello, Italian, etc) you can't go wrong with taking a peak into Andrew's. I once came here just to check it out years ago and now have been going back at minimum on a monthly basis to grab their amazing cheeses or sandwiches! Check it out!
google avatar

Aly M.

Yelp
Andrew and team created a beautiful cheese board for Thanksgiving! It included 4 cheeses, marcona almonds, olives, delicious salamis and dried fruit. The boards was a work of art and the everyone raved about the delicious selection! We will definitely order from Andrew's again for the upcoming holidays.
google avatar

Mianya O.

Yelp
I came here before covid looking for gourmet cheeses to make a housewarming charcuterie board and wow. Mind. Blown. I truly haven't been living, how have I not curated better cheese for myself all these years. Everything that I tried was on the money. A mix of soft and firm cheeses and even a blend of meats to pair with it. Love that there are other kitchen essentials like duck fat in a jar! Talk about elevating your chef game. I was so impressed i decided to sign up for Andrew's cheese tasting class. Let me tell you. I was blown away again. He knows his stuff and is a sommelier of cheese. Suffice it to say, I'm not going anywhere else for my cheeses. Take a look at the board I put together using all cheeses and meats from his shop.

Darla H.

Yelp
This place is fabulous! They always help me find exactly the right things introduced me to new cheeses and I love the service love the product and go all the time

Yelp
My daughter and I love our French butter. I've tried different cheese shop's and no luck.. thankfully we found Andrew's cheese shop. We will be back to restock.

Yelp
I wish I could have everything in this store. It's fully of amazing products and cheese. Staff is usually kind and helpful. I could easily spend a thousand dollars in this shop

Yelp
This is a phenomenal cheese shop. Reminds me of the old-school New York style hole in the wall king of the street cheese shops. I was looking for a gourmet cheese with truffle mushrooms. I found a soft Brie with truffle and an Italian Tartufo with truffle. The Tartufo was amazing. It was a blend of cow and sheep milk, firm but not too firm, and earthy with truffle flavor that pairs well with white or red wine. The selection of cheese and gourmet salami/sausage is outstanding. They also have a wonderful selection of wine, both us and European. The wall opposite the cheese cases is at least 18 ft with an old school wall ladder that slides the length of the wall on wheels to get items from above. The wall shelves are filled with Olive oils, jams, crackers, and useful food items to prepare appetizers and meals for get togethers. All in all a good find. I only wish it was closer. I will frequent this shop while traveling near Santa Monica. Cheers!

B R.

Yelp
This place is hands down my favorite store in all of Santa Monica. They have the best sandwiches and cheeses, with tons of great speciality items. We love supporting them and hope you will too.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Great spot to pick up supplies for a picnic or easy night in. Beer and Wine selection is spot on. Don't miss the grab and go sandos -especially the portobello and the Reuben (they'll warm up the Reuben for ya). And yes of course the cheese! You can order cheese boards in advance to really up your hosting game.
google avatar

Missy B.

Yelp
Great selection of cheeses! I called in to order a cheese and charcuterie board. They were so helpful. I picked up the board without any issues. Our party loved the cheese and charcuterie selection. Highly recommend them!
google avatar

Lynda T.

Yelp
Yum! What a great little place! We've bought cheeses here twice, and loved every bite. They also carry boquerones, a European anchovy that is my boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law's favorites, and very difficult to find. They also have sandwiches, wine and other goodies. We're fans and repeat customers. A foodie favorite!
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
Cheese heaven. Now I usually try to avoid dairy but every once in a while I cave in. This cheese shop is located on Montana surrounded by lots of shops nearby. Parking isn't too hard to find. The workers inside are always so friendly every time I come. Their selection of cheeses is outstanding. Literally anything your heart or should I say stomach desires. You can find hard and soft cheeses all different varieties. They even let you try some if you are in between choices. I personally loft soft cheeses and their selection is fantastic. They also host beer and cheese nights which I have yet to attend but they sound very fun. I definitely recommend visiting this shop if you are a lover of cheese.

Yelp
The woman working the store was very short with me and literally rolled her eyes when I didn't tip for her ringing me up on an iPad.

Yelp
Oops, I did it again, and I'm feeling very guilty. I loved, and I didn't share it with you when it first happened. Like a secret relationship at the office, or perhaps more similar to buying your favorite cookies, and keeping it all to yourself. In my case, it's the "Grilled Beer & Cheese night" at Andrew's. Attended March 23, 2012 (shhhh, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/andrews-cheese-shop-santa-monica?select=QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ#QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ), and again, last week April 5, 2013. Well, it's time to spill the beer. It's already a difficult ticket. 24 lucky people can reserve/pay ($45) for a spot at the 1-2x per month event (see calendar online and/or join the mailing list). The doors are closed and you're locked in with cheese for an intimate evening. Andrew is the host, and with two of his talented staff, prepare a feast of 5 pairings...open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches with pours of various brews. Slowly, a cadence was created of one grilled heaven matched with a specially chosen beer, from mildest to strongest, and ending with sweet -- generous seconds are offered for everything...but be careful not to get too full, or too tipsy, too quickly! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/andrews-cheese-shop-santa-monica?select=QWBn0l4UymJyZBOpaRazrQ#aiG9OrPSwLD9pinkuQqTtw For cheese-lovers, beer enthusiasts, foodies, or just looking for something special to do for dates or with friends, this is a yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes event. Just inside the front door, a long sharing table is setup with a white tablecloth, candles, the ever-glow of cheese display cases. Surrounded by shelves of fine wines, beers, packages goodness or one side, and to the other -- the cheese. The setting feels very unique and VIP, and leaves one feeling with "Can I stay and rent a space to sit in the corner for a month?" Andrew and his cheeses -- are lovely anyway. So whether you come on to get your cheese-on, pickup a sandwich on the way to the beach, or come to an event -- it's all good. I left beyond satisfied, tummy protruding, and also, very nervous that anyone who got near me would have no idea of the event I attended. Good Lord -- I smelled like I lived on the streets -- pppppuuuuuuuu. So, don't plan on continuing your evening by going to a bar, Father's Office, or otherwise. But, do plan on trying this out soon before I go a third time and just have to brag some more. Secrets no more. I apologize.

Yelp
GRILLED CHEESE & BEER?! Why the hell not?! Everyone, HURRY and get your butt over to Andrews Cheese shop. Came here for a friend's birthday - private party for 20 ppl and $45 each. We got there at 7pm sharp. The table was set & ready to go. Andrew and his team did a fantastic job prepping for this event. **It is a small shop and our party pretty much filled the entire place** There weren't any menus except for Andrew's explanation of each dish and beer pairing. I do apologize in advance for not taking notes of each gourmet grilled cheese sandwich that was served. With that said, here are SOME of the items we tried: - favorite grilled cheese was on a raisin bread, had a little sweet kick to it (can't recall the ingredients) **HIGHLY RECOMMENDED** I'm sure Andrew will know what this is. - olive bread with truffle butter filled with burrata & ricotta and proscitto - bread soaked in BEER with 1 year old cheddar cheese, horseradish & habanero - bread with dijon mustard and caramelized onions with cheese (can't recall what type) - bread dunked in COFFEE (re-dried again) with American cheedar, fig spread and slice of fig with blue cheese - hazelnut bread rubbed with garlic & butter and some cheese (can't recall what type) These were not the only ones we tried. And each dish came with different beer pairings. I really was not expecting to get full on grilled cheese & beer. The staff kept coming back for seconds and there were times where we had to stop them. I really did not know what to expect prior to coming here. These were one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've had thus far. All the different cheeses we've had were out of this world. Andrew and his staff did an amazing job making us feel at home and that we enjoyed our visit. They even sliced the birthday cake for us from Hotcakes in Culver City. I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended.

Yelp
GRILLED CHEESE AND BEER NIGHT We had an amazing time Friday evening - this is a tasty, intimate affair that you do not want to miss out on. These events sell out within 24 hours so you better book ASAP if you want in. 5 sandwiches (which for me meant 9 since I went seconds on all but the last when I was just too full to handle another bite) and 5 beer pairings which meant... I'm not sure how many ounces, since I did multiple pours on the first 3... No need to be shy here, enjoy to your hearts content there is plenty to go around the long candlelit table for approx 24 guests. This is an incredible evening of pure delight for any cheese and beer lover! You may attempt to make replicas of these sandwiches at home, but more than likely you will never taste anything like these - extravagant yet fairly simple at the same time - but oh, so tasty in your mouth - just the smell of the melting cheese leaves you nearly drooling for the next batch to make their way to your plate. You will leave stinking of cheese and needing to explain where you've been if you encounter anyone after this event but it is sooo worth it :) Thanks Andrew and staff for a wonderful evening! See you again soon!

Yelp
Unfortunately I had a negative experience, the Ruben sandwich was underwhelming, in fact tasted off and the 2 female employees were rude. I normally try to leave positive reviews but I was really put off by my experience, I will not be back.

T W.

Yelp
Though the shop is well curated...there is something off about the attiutude of the Botero shaped young woman behind the counter - this is something Ive noticed the several times Ive bern in the shop- she has a super sour demeanor and acts very put upon- not cool.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
If you're a devout fromage fanatic like me, consider this the Holy Grail of coagulated milk protein. Andrew himself is always there and he knows his cheese better than any other nose I know. If you're a novice, you can taste a bit of each wheel until you find what you're looking for (but please don't abuse that power and spoil it for those behind you). The best method of attack is talking to any of the friendly staff behind the counter so they can find what you're looking for. With every cheese comes a descriptive tasting card so you know what you bought, who made it, where it comes from and what it tastes like. Andrew's Cheese Shop also hosts some tasty private dinner parties, sells crackers, beer, wine, salami, seasonal white alba truffles, and they also make some scrumptious baguette sandwiches for lunch. The sign out front reads, "This place stinks!" and it absolutely does. But in the best way possible.

Michele V.

Yelp
My husband and I know Andrew and have come here for years. I say Andrew...please return to the shop. Without you there it is not great! The last 3 times we have been (in the last 2 months) have been sub par cheese wise and beyond sub par service wise. Andrew they need you! The women at the counter are unfriendly, unwelcoming, unenthusiastic, uninterested in the customers and not knowledgable enough of the cheeses at hand (or really cheese in general). We walked in and were there waiting for quite a while without even a hello or acknowledgement of our presence. The 2 women behind the counter were there but carrying on a personal conversation and ignoring us. We finally said something and one said about the other "she just got here" and we said that does not mean you should ignore the customers waiting and not even say hello and greet us." Just shameful! 3 visits we have gotten home to cheeses we did not love. 3 visits we have asked for something very "stinky" and full flavored and sharp and have come home with cheese that is not. Yesterday we again asked and suggested to us was a cheese called Langress Chalancey. When we opened it up and tasted it - it was beyond mild ...almost lacking flavor but for the salt. Very disappointing. The goat that was suggested to us was as well beyond mild almost brie like. Also very disappointing. The Stilton and English cheddar which we picked were better and more full flavored. We also got some olives from the bucket which were quite hard and new and not soft and full flavored yet. They were not ready to be served. The bread was overcooked and did not taste fresh. Overall quite disappointing and not a great experience. After all these years - next time for cheese...somewhere else.

Yelp
Pretentious, over-priced and with a bad attitude. My Wife, who grew up in Europe eating Gouda, was given Romano instead of Gouda. Any simple Google search will show these are not even in the cheese family. Instead of trying to simply rectify the situation, we had to deal with a "cheese nazi" and his rage. Needless to say, we're never coming back. See attached note as an example of how to never operate a small business.

Yelp
I just moved here and I went for the first time to buy some special cheeses for dinner party. When I asked for the Brie from the half that wasn't cut. The employee insisted on selling the part that was already cut in a weird shape, with the nose cut off. She flat out refused 3 times telling me it was from the same wheel. If it were for me to enjoy with my family I would not have cared. I told her I wanted to present a proper cheeses tray and not a piece of Brie that had the nose cut. And in the beginning I wanted the whole half of the half wheel. After her rude refusal I left with 2 other cheeses I ordered before the Brie and went somewhere else where they wanted to sell me cheese properly cut and aren't rude!

Yelp
Love this place. Everyone is super knowledgeable and friendly. They stock a great range of cheeses including new varietals you've prob never heard of. They have every accompaniment you could want with your cheese including a decent selection of wine. Do yourself a favor and drop in if you're in the area

Yelp
Love this place. Such a great selection of cheese, wine and beer. My husband and I go there a lot for a little wine and cheese night for just the two of us, or even if we go to a party we come here to pick up a charcuterie board. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Unfriendly and sharp ladies working here. Unpleasant experience. Will not return. Much, Much better/different experience at Lady and The Larder. Sorry Andrew(if there is an Andrew).

Yelp
Mixed feelings. This is a gorgeous store and reminds me of the bodegas that were scattered throughout SF when I lived there (which I miss terribly) so I was happy to see it on my street when I moved. But, I do wish the service were a bit better, especially for a neighborhood spot - I have been in here several times and the people working are never all that friendly, which is a bummer IMO. I finally tried a sandwich and it was pretty good. I got the reuben because that's what seems to be popular - nothing that left me blown away, but maybe I'm a tough critic b/c I grew up with NY style delis on the east coast. I'll probably give them one more try.
