"The area’s only 24-hour doughnut shop is a bustling community hub at all times of day — a place, during pre-pandemic times, where you could get off your feet for a few minutes, read the paper, and enjoy a cheap cup of coffee, or to try your luck with a pile of lotto scratchers. Fortunately, there are still, of course, the doughnuts themselves, which are fresher-tasting than average and available in all the usual varieties. The crumb doughnuts, old-fashioneds, and oversized apple fritters are especially choice." - Luke Tsai, Eater Staff

I love that they have French Crueller donuts available (I like chocolate). Not many donut shops still carry them, because they say they’re difficult to make (and more expensive to make). Too bad their Lotto machines were down the day I went. I wasn’t able to buy any scratchers or Quick Pick lottery tickets for Power Ball and Mega Millions. Looking forward to trying their Brown Sugar Fresh Milk Boba drink ($5.50) sometime. It wasn’t available that day either.

5 stars Stopped by yesterday and was seriously impressed. The donuts were fresh and delicious, and the shop had a great vibe with friendly service. They’ve got other tasty options too if you’re not just after donuts. I’ll definetly be back for the full experience.

Neighborhood donut shop with a grill. There are no tables since covid. Holy Moly donut shop by Foodsco has tables

Google
We liked the variety of donuts on display, most of your typical donuts you can find anywhere. What makes this place unique is it also offers various sandwiches and burgers. While you wait in line or for your order, there are scratcher dispensers. The serious downside is the wait. If there's just one person working, be prepared to wait. We had just two people in front of us in line and it took 25 minutes to finally get our two donuts and go, no joke.

Google
Very good donuts here, nice selection, too. Place is a bit run down, but don’t let that stop you!! Good coffee, and if you’re looking for lotto tickets, you got ‘em here! Tasty place highly recommend.

Whoever the woman is working right now, 12/29 at 5pm has HORRIBLE CUSTIMWR SERVICE! My daughter went in for a bagel with her best friend. The woman didn't mention that she has other bagels available that wasn't being displayed at the moment so my when my daughter realized that they had a plain bagels behind the counter she wanted to change her order. 1st of why would you offer 1 customer 1 things and something else to another customer all at once. Well long story short the woman refused to correct my daughter's order. Ohenry donuts and bagels are better anyways. Always bugs flying over the donuts anyways.

Google
I went to buy a donut to find out it's not Andy's. Under new management and owners. When it belonged to Andy's you could see Authentic adults working. I would come here because I loved the conversation. Today that didn't happen. Bought a dozen of donuts. The donuts we dry. The cashier was really nice. Paid 18 dolars for a dozen of donuts.

Yelp
It was my first time at Andy's Donut Shop. I had the BEST MOST AMAZING experience. First of all, the donuts are SUPER DELICIOUS, all original family recipes that go back generations. Today, I met Tari who is one of the family owners. She shared about the history of the shop, which goes back generations. Tari is delightful! She was so friendly with every person who stopped by her shop. I left with a box of donuts to share with my friends. I'll certainly be back for more!!! I'd recommend this donut shop to anyone. DON'T MISS OUT! COME HERE!

F. M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. Delicious, fresh, amazing doughnuts. Quality customer service. Reasonable prices.

Irene G.

Yelp
We love stopping here from time to time to grab some donuts but we especially love their bacon, ham and cheese croissants. They are large and I could barely finish half of it. We always share it. It's $9 but consider it's enough for 2 people.

Ivonne G.

Yelp
I went to this donut shop to buy plain donuts for my dad who lives in Richmond. It was later in the day so there was not much but I did buy 1/2 dozen. I bought a chocolate with chocolate nuts. I don't usually eat these because they are sweet but this one was not sweet at all. It was well balanced! I thought that it was great that it had a parking lot because there was no street parking.

Jakina B.

Yelp
This place is really good! The Vietnamese ice coffee is one of the best!!!!! Donuts were good as well

Omoh O.

Yelp
We were the only customers. We tried there donuts and it was soft, fresh, and delicious. We even got the hook up hint hint. I'll be back this week.

Anneaum M.

Yelp
Great service, delicious donuts, reasonable price, and quick delivery. My family and I love this place.

Mamie L.

Yelp
Very fresh donuts as noted in the review about their business. Not a neighborhood I would normally go to. Proprietors were nice

Francisco C.

Yelp
Always love Andys, there dependable and delicious, i would try them against any other donut shops. A Richmond staple. Were lucky to a donut shop like this. Now, if only donuts were healthy..

Janis M.

Yelp
ANDY'S DONUTS IS OPEN. It was closed for only a few hours when a car drove through the front door. The donuts here are delicious and beyond compare, and they have RED VELVET DONUTS, which you can't get everywhere. The shop is a true Richmond treasure and has been open some 70 years, which should tell you how good the food is. The folks who work here are friendly and helpful and the place opens at 3 a.m. Seriously, what more could you ask!

Vassean J.

Yelp
Andy,s has a really nice selection of donuts, I like the fact they're open kind of late and they are making fresh donuts through the night. Service is good pretty slow during the night cause I fuse they're busy making new batches, nice clean and direct in the shop, im and out. They offer more options on the menu like breakfast sandwiches, can't wait to try. Check em out!

Dave N.

Yelp
Straight forward no nonsense type of establishment which I appreciate. I always appreciate a good small mom and pop shop. Their donut holes and regular glaze donuts are my go-to's. If I'm in need of a morning pick me up, a couple of donuts and a cup or Joe never disappoints. Plus they do the lotto so be sure to pick some up if you're feeling lucky

Meg A.

Yelp
Donuts are fresh and delicious. One of two cashiers was very nice the other seemed irritated at me asking about their California Lotto! A bonus is that they do have both a scratcher machine and a Lotto machine.

Victoria R.

Yelp
This is the fastest door dash order I have ever received. I selected standard delivery. We ordered 1 egg and cheese croissant 1 ham and cheese croissant ( which my husband ate too fast for me to get a photo) a bag of donut holes And a random half dozen donuts The sandwiches are huge! They were piping hot when they arrived and delicious. They gave me a large cup of coffee, and the donuts are perfectly fluffy and delicious. I'm so glad I had a random craving for "donut shop sandos" Thank you Andy's Donut Stop for amazing food!!!

Michaela A.

Yelp
Awesome donuts. They had a really good variety even though we showed up pretty late in the day.

Allyson B.

Yelp
Best donut shop in Richmond. They also had great breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately, when I passed by last week there was a sign saying that the shop is temporarily closed due to a car hitting the side of their shop. I hope everyone was okay, and that they'll be able to open up soon again!

MARJORIE S.

Yelp
Nice selection of donuts each time I stopped by. Donuts were fresh and cashier was always nice. Not the greatest neighborhood but might be worth the adventure to get these treats! My son doesn't doesn't care for cake that much so we bought assorted donuts from Andy's for his bday instead. Big hit with everyone at our party.

Theresa U.

Yelp
Service is always great here. Staff are always friendly. Ambiance nice and cozy. Food always fresh donuts, never a disappointment. Love the freshness and not too sweet. Will always come back when I'm in the neighborhood .

Bunnie U.

Yelp
I like how fresh their donuts are on a Sunday morning but I got an apple fritter on the side of a dozen donuts and I didn't even see one apple in the apple fritter y'all would have gotten a 5star

Luis Z.

Yelp
I ordered donut holes from this donut shop on DoorDash twice. Both times did not receive them. So I called them and asked them if they had any donut holes and the guy said yes. so wtf lol.

Jason F.

Yelp
Downtown Richmond doesn't have many more institutions still around, but knowing that Andy's Donut Stop has been around since 1954 proves there is some nostalgia and traditions that can last forever. Andy's is open twenty-four hours, seven days a week, they make their donuts fresh every day, and you can literally taste the freshness with every bite even days later, if that makes any sense. You can't miss this iconic shop. With its eye-catching 1950s-era yellow and white retro exterior and snazzy signs, Andy's stands tall amongst its 23rd Street neighbors, as it should. Originally founded by Alberta "Bertie" Heltsley and her late husband, Earl, these days, Andy's is under new ownership, with Randy Chow having bought it over four years years ago, but the original owners presence is felt as Alberta and her sister Vi still working behind the counter, offering a friendly hello to regulars and newcomers alike who come through their front door, even during stressful times like these they've kept up with the times with glass partitions separating you from them and an updated square reader for credit card purchases. Aside from selling every donut under the sun, Andy's also serves a variety of breakfast sandwiches made on English muffins, bagels and croissants. Coffee, milk and other drinks round out the breakfast-leaning offerings. I came on a mild Sunday afternoon with a real craving for donuts but not expecting how much inventory they had left from the morning rush. Turns out I had nothing to be worried over as they had plenty of pastries left over from croissants to turnovers to traditional donuts from long johns to crullers to jelly filled to Boston crème filled. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted on this mid-afternoon run so I let my eyes pick for me for some choices and I let Vi select the other ones. I knew I was getting a chocolate covered Old-Fashioned and chocolate covered cruller. All of the crème and jelly filled donuts looked great but I had to go with the Boston crème filled donut topped with chocolate (are you also seeing a pattern here?) I also got something that looked like a Dutchie donut but it was basically a small cake loaf with two mounds topped with chocolate because of course. And then for my two other choices, I went big with a traditional Apple Fritter donut and Vi suggested their Cinnamon bun covered in white icing. And with that I was done with six donuts out the door for a reasonable $10.50. I do wish they put my order in one of their signature pink boxes, as I did say before I started my order that I was ordering six donuts for the week. I didn't mind them being put in two white paper bags but as I took them home you could see the oil on the side of the bag which made my treats a little less appetizing. But when I did get home to try them the donuts were soft and flavorful with every bite. The Boston crème filled donut was a standout, and when I had the chocolate covered Old-Fashioned donut a day later it was still soft which was a delightful surprise as they can get really stale soon. Maybe it was best that I didn't get my donuts in a box as I put them all in a plastic Tupperware bin and that sealed in the freshness. Obviously I am a fan of Andy's Donut Stop and whenever I need a donut fix close to home then this is where I am going, plus I can get a bacon, egg, cheese and English Muffin sandwich if and when I have a craving for something savory? Well that's just dangerous! And beware it looks like they are turning in half of their store into an Andy's Fried Chicken restaurant, which of course they are. The question will be do you have to go into two different stores or will it be a one stop gluttonous shop? I'm hoping for the latter so I can cradle my bag of goodies without any judgement. Yet another reason to stop by this local institution to get your sweet and savory fix satiated (and to commemorate National Donut Day as there seems to be so many of them throughout the calendar year and who knows why) then you can't go wrong with Andy's.

Yelp
4th star for the great service...the woman behind the counter is very nice ....had a couple of glazed twists and a custard filled ...good donuts. Not greasy and light...they also make breakfast sandwiches here ..didn't try one but they looked decent ...if in the neighborhood give them a try

A A.

Yelp
Ok so the donuts are good but this morning i went to buy a dozen donuts which now cost $16.00 i kindly asked The man to please Substitute 1 donut for a few donut holes because I have 2 Toddlers at home, he went ahead and said that 1 donut is the equivalent to 1 donut hole!!!! Like are u listening to yourself? The name says it ... donut HOLE !!!! Not a whole donut.... Anyways I went ahead and told Him to substitute 2 donuts for 2 donut holes... then he said its ok I will just give the Donut holes to you... I mean like "thank you" but not sure I want to come back to a place That thinks a donut hole is the same value of a donut!!!!

Monica B.

Yelp
Such a nice man working there. Kind and helpful. The apple fritter, glazed old fashioned, chocolate bar, and jelly-filled donuts for absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Parking is a bit difficult, but it's easily walkable.

Lorien L.

Yelp
One star based on the deliciousness of their doughnuts. Another one since they been there since the 50's & open 24/7, well that's worth something. The cinnamon twist wasn't the flavor I was looking for, the maple frosting is not maply at all, & the cake doughnut was too mushy... They had a great selection but the flavor just ain't there. The search for the best maple doughnut in the hood must go on.

Jerry L.

Yelp
I purchased 5 items using DoorDash and only three arrived. The dasher asked if everything was inside and was told, yes. The dasher could not confirm the order because it was taped up. I tried calling Andy's and no one would answer the phone. Because of this, my wife and I had to flip a coin to see who was going to be able to eat.

Yelp
Donuts are magical, aren't they? Sure, they're bad for you, so much so that if you have just one every day, you are likely to gain a pound almost every week. Then you can star on your own episode of "My 600-lb Life" where you're surrounded by relatives who are willing to get you more doughnuts until they have to rent a crane to get you off your bed. So where's the magic in that? Well, hell's bells, they taste so damn good with all that white flour, refined sugar, and if you need more indulgence, cream filling. But I have to admit that I've sworn myself off those magical pieces of artery-clogging fried dough. So why would I drive all the way over to Richmond to see Andy? Am I confessing that he's my secret dealer? Not exactly. I was attending a company offsite where a group of us were attending a volunteer event. There were about fifty in total, and we were cleaning the shoreline at Miller Knox Regional Park in Point Richmond. There was no continental breakfast planned, yet we were asking people to show up at 8AM for this volunteer event. Didn't seem right, so I looked at the Yelp app to find the nearest donut shop available in the early morning, and Andy was the chosen one. It is definitely not a designer pastry shop by any stretch. It is completely old school and working class. People want to come in for their donuts and coffee, shoot the breeze, and then get on their way. They are not the park-and-text crowd. The prices are right - $9.75 for a dozen regular-size donuts and $4.25 for a dozen donut holes. Moreover, the manager was friendly and most accommodating. I just told him I need a couple of dozen donuts and... ...a couple of dozen donut holes because after all, who doesn't like a donut hole (photo)? I just kept pointing at donut after donut through the display case and with my finger in full pointing mode, said things like "I'll take four of those...six of these...three of those, not those, those..." (photo: http://bit.ly/2iAt9Vr). I tend to favor chocolate and coconut shavings. Must be my childhood Mounds obsession coming out of my subconscious. The result was a coronary in three boxes, but they smelled awfully good since they were fairly fresh from the warming oven. It was the ultimate in will power that led me not to taste not one of the regular size ones, but I did take a nibble of one of the holes. Quality assurance naturally. It passed. My colleagues devoured them and thanked me between bites. DONUTS - 4 stars...not healthy but cheap and satisfying the way you want them to be AMBIANCE - 3 stars...it's a donut shop, what do you expect? (photo: http://bit.ly/2zEm2ym) SERVICE - 4 stars...the manager deserves kudos for complying with my random finger pointing TOTAL - 4 stars...Andy's not my dealer...but if you need donuts for a crowd in Richmond, I've got a recommendation for ya

Luci S.

Yelp
Best donuts I've had. Worth the drive . During these crazy covid times they're open til 10pm but he said soon he'll be back to 24 hours !

JoAnn T.

Yelp
Andy's has the best chocolate (devils' food, not just chocolate icing) donuts ever! My granddaughters asked if I had really tasted every chocolate donut in the world, so I had to admit that I had not, BUT that Andy's are truly great. I am now 80 years old and retired, but when I worked for over 35 years as a school psychologist for the local school district, I would stop at Andy's whenever I went to any of the nearby schools. I still go to Andy's as often as possible. I am happy to support this small business with its pleasant staff and fine and affordable products.

Scott S.

Yelp
The lady behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful. However, for a place that has a huge donut on the side of the building, the donuts were very average. The buttermilk bars tasted like they had either very low quality buttermilk or some kind of buttermilk substitute in them. They weren't bad...they just weren't worth a return visit

Mariam H.

Yelp
Andy's is a big win. Ordered some for a baby shower, b.f's birthday and took to a party and they were all the rave. Show up to your next party with some and I promise you won't be disappointed. Very fresh and delicious. Classic dessert/treat.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Donuts so fresh, airy, and soft. So yummy and good. But beware, they were a tad sweeter than my sweetness level; not a problem because I ate them with my black coffee. They have donuts topped with coconut, which you don't see at a regular grocery/bakery shop.

Christina B.

Yelp
Best crossiant sandwich ever! The donuts are tasty too. Small mom and pop so be patient. Totally worth the wait.

Janet H.

Yelp
No one in the shop was wearing their mask. Not the man in the front helping customers or the two people working in the back. For this reason we chose not to try out the donuts from here. The donuts did look amazing, but wasn't worth risking my life for.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
Want to go to a real donut shop? Come to Andy's. Andy's has that downhome (if kinda nicotine smoky) feel. It's not like going to the Starbucks of donut shops - all kinds of fancy names and options with a generic taste. Andy's is the standalone-neighborhood-coffee-shop-that's-been-there-forever donut shop. They even have a tiny parking lot out back useful for......making a u-turn to point the other way and park on the street. Donuts made right there, every day. Come at the right time and you can watch it be done. The people are real, flaws and characteristics and all. You get exactly what you see. Including very yummy donuts. Forget the chain donut places, forget the strip mall ultra-sugared-up donuts. Come to Andy's for the real.

Ricardo T.

Yelp
I usually find this donut spot to be serving up some of the best donuts in the East Bay. However, the lady had the audacity to charge me 9 dollars for TWO donuts. Like, really?

Patricia D.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for delicious doughnuts and aren't picky about service this is your place. The apple fritter was to die for and the old fashioned and coconut chocolate situation were also bomb. The elderly lady working was not having any of it when it came to ordering breakfast sandwiches so we said ok, how about some ham and cheese. She reluctantly agreed to that. Then behind us in line a guy asked her for a breakfast sandwich and she said no. THEN he asked if she could do eggs, she said yes. Then he reordered the breakfast sandwich and she said yes! What? I kinda love it. Will be back both for the sass and doughnuts.

Tameeka B.

Yelp
Great donuts and great breakfast sandwich. They don't get many marks for appearance but their donuts are pretty good for a neighborhood shop. Great doughy consistency with the right amount of chew. $7 for a croissant breakfast sandwich was a little pricey for me but Richmond is gentrifying and I wanna support small businesses! They gotta raise the prices to stay in business, I get it. That aside, I enjoyed the sandwich, great amount of bacon and cheese. Thumbs up all around.

Tatiana S.

Yelp
DON'T GO HERE!! Came here for 4 fucking donuts, the old man typed in the actual price ($5.02) on the old register but I couldn't see that he put $55.02 on the new one that takes debt/credit cards!! Yes it was my bad for not grabbing the receipt but luckily my phone sends it through my emails!!! When we went back he acted surprised like he didn't know but we could tell he did. Fuck this place and the fucker there!

Liz W.

Yelp
The service is great. I like the maple doughnuts, but they don't have any most of the time. There's customers hanging around most times. They are friendly. Don't harass you for change. It's good when a business have regular customers around. They will look out for the business owners. A dozen of doughnuts have gone up to $11.25 or $11.75. I don't mind the increase. Becuz I can't find any other place nearby with great tasting doughnuts. U can also buy great tasting sandwiches I was told. U can buy ur lottery tickets too. This business has been around for a long time. I hope they will never go out of business. Many of our Mom and Pop businesses have closed or changed management. This would devastate me if that happened. See u again soon.

Lena M.

Yelp
Donuts were fluffy and fresh. One of my coworkers brought a box in and the coconut chocolate covered donut was delicious.

Sara P.

Yelp
Andy's makes delicious donuts. They literally melt in your mouth. But the main reason I come here every week is for their breakfast sandwiches. For $5 bucks (some are $6) you can get a delicious egg cheese and bacon sandwich on your choice of bagel, croissant, English muffin and maybe another option... anyway the owner makes them fresh on the spot. So darn good. Also the coffee is delicious for a donut shop. He grinds the beans before each batch and I always see him rotating old pots (that have been sitting around) out and adding fresh coffee. Good stuff. I can't wait to go back for my weekend treat. Yum.

Victor G.

Yelp
Andy's Donuts had lots of donuts on display, 3 kinds of french cruellers (not a good sign) eats: french crueller & old fashioned (1.85) -old fashion tasted a little stale, french crueller a day old?, not melt in ur month. 3.5 stars. crumbs: -maybe it's a bad donut day, giving a break for the smiling service. -reasonable pricing, donuts should be fresh when they get busy. -prefer hometown up the street, always get a freebie.....

Amber-Marie S.

Yelp
Early morning fresh doughnuts. You cant really go wrong here. I enjoyed the series this morning. It wasnt too busy when i went. So I was in and out. Grabbed 1dozen doughnuts for the house. Price was fine. No complaints. Its kind of small in the sitting area. However it didn't bother me. Parking is street parking. The neighborhood isn't too bad.

Etsuko K.

Yelp
Like this place. Can't say I've been there. Because hubs picked some up for us this morning. Here's the run down of the actual donuts though: Cinnamon snail, pretty yum not extra glazed or sweet. Apple fritter-- really great because again, wasn't too too sweet. We got an assortment of the raised ones-- glazed, chocolate and sugar. All were pretty fluffy and yummy. I'd imagine they're amazing when they're warm. Now-- when are they warm? That's the question! And also my hubs mentioned some kind of special deal, you buy so many and you get a dollar off something something... He didn't quite get the details. Anyway, don't let the outside of the shop fool you. The place has stood the test of time and been around for a while. You may run in to some of the colorful locals while you're there. And that's Richmond-- so don't be sc'red.

Chad P.

Yelp
I have been going on and off to Andy's since the 80's. Just went back last night and you know what? This place is great. I am just happy that they have stuck around and didn't get trounced by the Crispy Cream craze. Good job folks. And to that person who gave the crappy revue because they are afraid to get mugged going for early morning fresh doughnuts... Get yourself a boyfriend or girlfriend or significant what-ever to go with you. I mean, who goes out at 3AM for doughnuts by themselves anyway?. I mean really!

Sarah B.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite donut shop. I've been coming here since I was a kid. The donuts and customer service is great but there are some questionable people that hang around and make trouble. That's the only downside to this great donut shop.

Lorissa W.

Yelp
The coconut chocolate raised donut was the best raised donut I ever had. It was extremely fluffy and was like cotton candy inside. I think their donuts are special but the location is scary. I saw some prostitutes and crazy people nearby. The service was excellent and the coffee was good too.

Jaime W.

Yelp
OMG!!! They have the best creams filled donuts i have ever tasted. The Apple Fritters are delicious. The area is sketchy you can get in and out faster with cash.

Jana C.

Yelp
(Taunting sing-song) "I know a secret that youoooo don't... I know something that youuuuu don't"... but not to fear; I'm a nice girl and I will share my sinful, sugary secret.... This ugly looking, almost scary front of a donut shop is open 24 hours a day!!! And inside the scary exterior lays a wonderland of great looking donuts that are among a laudable selection, at a price that is extremely affordable, and fluffy to boot (last descriptor most important, no?) When I, by pure accident, ran into Andy's, I was a bit leery as I walked with slight disquietude toward a door that was so dark, though the sign did say Open, I was certain of otherwise. But I thought I'd try anyway.....hey! No resistance.... in I go! whooooaaaa..... so this donut shop is actually a spacious one, and as I crossed the threshold, I thought, "look at all those donuts!!!" I had to chuckle after my friend Jen K's review of her upscale, divine 'adult' pastry review and how her son would be more grateful for a donut shop. Well, I should have brought her son here, because the donuts on display looked really inviting! Let me expound....never a fan of filled donuts (i find them too sweet), these were double the height of an average.. I could see someone sinking his teeth into that one and enjoying every second of the ride. As another reviewer has indelicately described, the cinnamon rolls (less cinnamon, more like gigantic snail of a sugary donut) that measured 5" in diameter (can I have another whooaaaaa!?). The crumb raised donut caught me and wouldn't let go, so I acquiesced to its call to be devoured by me, and went with it. So impressed by this place that lies in the economically depressed area that is Richmond, along an artery that is farther north than I usually care to venture. If you don't pee in your little pants and can take the 'adventure' of making it out here, do it. All of the friendly, chatty old folk perched in their donut bench booths also added to the charm of my unexpected, yet pleasantly redeeming donut visit Pssst! Someone had mentioned they sell donut holes for $1/bag? Gotta x-ray vision my way to those for the next time 'round...
