The Best Soft Serve Ice Cream in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"There’s absolutely no shortage of frozen custard flavors to choose from, or how it comes served, at Andy’s in Alpharetta, including mint chocolate chip, butter pecan, strawberry and oreo, and seasonal flavors like key lime, pumpkin pie, and Santa brownie. Andy’s also includes locations in Atlanta and Fayetteville." - Beth McKibben

Talk about super yummy! With a good amount of cream and flavor, it’s my number one place to satisfy my sweet-tooth!

Tami Peak

Google
After a long weekend of conferences, we decided to stop at this location and were absolutely delighted by both the service and the quality of the ingredients! That's quite a compliment coming from someone who grew up in the restaurant business during the '70s! My husband ordered a chocolate custard shake, which he described as refreshing and full of flavor. I indulged in a Stolen Brownie Sundae, featuring Andy’s frozen custard and a homemade brownie drizzled with hot fudge, sprinkled with roasted pecans, and crowned with a cherry. It was truly the best ice cream dessert I've had in at least a decade, and I will definitely seek out this and other locations during my travels! Unfortunately, I devoured it all before thinking to take a picture, as I was just a passenger princess enjoying my treat!

so so

Google
The custard always delicious. Great vibes and great toppings 😋

Google
Best place ever!!! You surely won’t be disappointed coming here. So many options to choose from where you can try something new every time

Google
Great place to go after dinner and is open till 11. :00 p.m. We all got cookie crumble jackhammers. They punch a hole in the middle of the ice cream and fill it with caramel or hot fudge. I picked hot fudge for the center. We gobbled it up in the parking lot before leaving. It was that good!

Maria Andrews

Google
We really enjoyed this place! It was fun to watch through the window and see the custard in the large machines. We absolutely loved the waffle cones! They were perfectly sweet, crispy, and fresh. Not too thin, not too thick, just perfect! We tried both the vanilla and chocolate custard. We also ordered the root beer freeze. All were delicious! We will definitely return!

Google
Best custard anywhere! Lemon Bar Concrete is a seasonal favorite that checks ALL the boxes! Simply amazing!

Google
This place stays PACKED and for good reason! It is absolutely delicious. I would much rather have frozen custard over traditional ice cream any day. It’s so much creamier and smoother. Andy’s is top tier the best frozen custard around Alpharetta! Their ooey gooey butter cake concrete is out of this world!! They also have a Biscoff cookie one that is a very close tie with the ooey gooey butter cake. We absolutely love this spot and the staff is always super amazing as well. 10/10 must go if you’re in the Alpharetta area! You will not be disappointed with the menu selection, product, service, and overall experience!

Yelp
The absolute best! You can't beat Andy's! There are no wrong choices. Service is always super quick and pleasant.

Yelp
First time at Andy's and I see the hype! This spot is always crowded in the summer, and I finally had to try! We went through the drive thru and got a small (still so much!) with vanilla custard, Oreo, hot fudge and caramel. I forgot what the name was, but it was de-li-cious. I have finally coming in from out of town soon, and I can't wait to bring them here !

Yelp
My family and I come here often... we love the frozen custard. We order a large vanilla for my oldest... the biggest concrete cup full of straight vanilla. I'm pretty sure he could eat a gallon if we bought it. I get a Bordeaux cherry with chocolate chip. When I get my mine with my stuff added in it is always not fully blended. The stuff is only half way blended in. They do this thing they call a jackhammer.. where they drill out the center and fill it with whatever topping you want... fudge, caramel, waffle cone or whatever. The problem is they don't drill it or fill it very well. In a lot of cases they don't drill it much at all and only put a bit of the filling on top. The quality control here is seriously lacking. It can be wildly different from visit yo visit. At times when they blend things they have it going way over the rim of the cup. If your taking it to go they put a bubble lid on it and then when you get home and take the lid off you get melted custard everywhere. We love the frozen custard but they really need to get back to paying attention to the detail. It is a shame... it's still really good... you just can beat the frozen custard and the variety of toppings!

Yelp
I've always wanted to try Andy's. I drive by everyday to and from work. I will say, I was a bit disappointed. It may have been the crowd of people but they need to find a different system on how to handout peoples orders, especially with a crowd that this place gets. You order at the window or you can do drive-thru. I ordered from the window. The cashier takes your order and then they call out the order. However, instead of taking a name for the order, when they call it-they call it based off the ice cream you and probably multiple other people ordered. So you really have to pay attention to the people who ordered before you to know your order is about to be up. They called my husbands ice cream first. Then they started calling the people after us. I went up to the window and asked nicely on the status where my sundae was. The cashier hopped on it and they got it to me shortly after that. The custard and sundae taste good. The fudge has a bit of a waxy texture to it, but overall everything else was good.

Yelp
The s'mores jackhammer is one of the tastiest desserts you can get from a drive through. I got it with chocolate custard and it was extra luscious and delicious. It takes a lot of discipline to resist going every time I work in Alpharetta.
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
First time to Andy's and I'm hooked! As someone who goes to Jeni's several times a month I was skeptical about trying Andy's however, it is very different and delicious! I tried the Santa brownie jackhammer which has brownies, hot fudge, candy cane pieces and vanilla custard in it- and wow it was incredible! The hot fudge mixed with the cold of the soft serve custard- 10/10. The pricing was 6.50 for a small which was a lot of custard honestly and the brownies in it made it very filling! They have a drive through and also a walk up area to order- there is not an inside area to sit and eat your ice cream. Be prepared to eat it in your car if it's a cold day!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness, let me tell you, this place is seriously amazing! I can't even begin to describe how incredibly delicious everything is. I mean, the custard ice cream is to die for! And let's not forget about the long line, but don't worry, it moves super quickly. It's become a tradition for me to swing by here after my late dinner. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Karen O.

Yelp
Wow I thought I knew ice cream, and than I got introduced to the concrete at Andy's. Soooo sooo good!!!
google avatar

Simone H.

Yelp
Service was good. The ice cream was good. No non-dairy options, so that was disappointing. It's setup like Brusters or Sonic where there is no inside for you to sit. It's all walk up and order. They have a lot of options but not a lot of options if that makes sense. Decent menu but I only saw one or two items I cared to try. They are open late which is nice if you're in this area. I ordered THE RICO SUAVE, added caramel. It was good.
google avatar

Mhailene M.

Yelp
They have the creamiest custard with tons of pre made options for you to choose from or you can create your own. The concept is open where you order and sit outside to eat the icecream. Service is quick and friendly !! The portion is nice for the price, but on a busy day parking could be a little hard as there's not much. It's still a nice place to go for after dinner treat with friends or family
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
We love this place! Fast, friendly and such a treat for the family. So creamy!! However, depending on who makes your concrete, there is a big delta on taste. Bordeaux cherry chip is my, "go to," and tonight it was just too much chocolate, not enough cherry. My son got the 3-peat (banana, peanut butter and cookie dough) and he thought it was just ok. Bananas weren't ripe enough, no flavor and very little cookie dough. Honestly though - it's just an off night, we'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Sarena T.

Yelp
A fun spot for frozen custard! I got the Santa Brownie (small) which was one of the holiday specials. It wasn't bad and a pretty good size for the price ($5.50ish). My friend got the apple pie flavor which was I found to be more refreshing. I haven't had frozen custard before but honestly I couldn't tell the difference between this and ice cream. They have a drive-through option as well! Service wasn't very fast when we went.
google avatar

Georgia K.

Yelp
Andy's fulfills our custard cravings and always has a good variety on their menu to choose from. There is a drive-thru for convenience and a walk up option as well - limited outdoor seating. They also keep you coming every season (yes, we even get custard in the winter) with their seasonal flavors on rotation. Definitely check out their website to see all the seasonal offerings and what is most current. The custard quality is above average; it is creamy and smooth. Also, the portion sizes are always bigger than you expect. I am a huge fan of frozen custard and I'm happy to see Andy's in the area.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
Custard is alway great no matter what toppings. Been here lots of times. Love it. They need a better system of getting people their orders - yelling the order and relying on people to remember exactly what they ordered always causes confusion. And having the cashier take orders and hand out completed orders results in delays.

Jourdan F.

Yelp
Ok so I was really excited to try this place!! I heard amazing things about it :)))) but unfortunately it missed the mark. Our ice cream was over $13 for a small ice cream. The snowmonster was completely soggy and soupy upon us receiving it at the store (as u can see in the picture) and I think there was only 3 Oreo pieces in my ice cream! I just think if they are going to charge this much for ice cream they should make sure the ice cream is up to par! But the service was nice and quick

Yelp
I've driven been by the Andy's Frozen Custard many times before, but typically on a Friday or Saturday night when the parking lot is packed, and there is a long line. I was finally in the area on a weeknight and decided to stop by and try their frozen custard. First of all, if you've never been there before, it may take a moment to decide what to order. They have so many different options to choose from on their extensive menu board. I decided to try a small Triple Chocolate Concrete frozen custard. It was great. The frozen custard was sweet and creamy. They have many toppings to add to your custard. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star review is because some of their items are a little pricey. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll return and bring some friends or family.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
The vanilla custard was really good. Suuuuper creamy and soft, it's the perfect thing to get as a quick sweet top off of any meal. Service was really nice too.
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
Fantastic! Sometimes you just need to indulge, Andy's happily obliged. Having a love of ice cream, bananas, and chocolate Sarah whipped up a tasty combination to soothe my afternoon craving. The vanilla custard was delicious, the bananas were fresh, and the chocolate was the topper! I think Sarah may have created this concoction on her own based on the input I gave her for what I like. She was super friendly to deal with and very accommodating
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Awesome place to swing by for dessert that opens til late night with a drive through! Purely food based review: Snowmonster - Got medium size and man are their portions for concretes huge. Their vanilla custard is the base for most of their desserts and it's good with the strawberries and chocolates!
google avatar

Luani S. D.

Yelp
SO GOOD!! Stopped by here for the first time because I always see it and wanted to try it. Just got a medium cake cone with the chocolate ice cream/custard. It was amazing! Just like soft serve ice cream. It's the best soft serve I have ever had, the chocolate tastes delicious and it's soooo velvety smooth. Going here again tonight because I've been craving it since! I will definitely be getting larger than a medium.
google avatar

Tina D.

Yelp
I finally got to try Andy's after driving past the last few year and people recommending it to me. I ordered the strawberry Oreo concrete with hot fudge. It hit the sweet spot wasn't too sweet at all; was creamy and delicious. There were some frozen strawberry slices but not too hard. Warning there's always a line or a crowd but worth waiting for.
google avatar

Jane Y.

Yelp
Really delicious frozen custard. Would be perfect if it wasn't slightly too melty. It melted so so fast before I could finish and I eat ice cream/custard very fast
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Missouri-based Andy's Frozen Custard won me over when I discovered they have an offering called James Brownie Funky Jackhammer. That name alone merits some stars. Throw in a central swimming pool of hot fudge plus peanut butter and brownies? Sold! The hot fudge and hot temps were resulting in more of a soupy vanilla mixture than the stiff frozen custard you might expect but it was still delightful. The small size ($5.89 before tax) was surprisingly more in medium-large territory, but I'll take it. The menu has options aplenty (such as concretes, sundaes, splits, malts, floats, and shakes) so there's bound to be something that speaks to your sweet tooth. Finally, Andy's is COVID-19 prevention-friendly, with polite masked-up employees serving out of a drive-thru and walk-up windows.

Shashidhar P.

Yelp
One of the best ice cream. I like their Brownie one and also simple vanilla is good. Always busy so plan to spend time to get it
google avatar

Gretel Y.

Yelp
Andy's frozen custard is such a treat! I had been wanting to try Andy's for a while, and finally got the chance to a month ago. I regret not trying them sooner! Their menu offers concretes, malts, sundaes, splits, and more. Walk up for carry out and drive-thru available. During my first visit, I decided to indulge in Andy's Ozark Turtle Sundae (regular) $5.74. It's a vanilla frozen custard covered with hot fudge, crème caramel, roasted pecans, and topped with a cherry. WHOA. It was the best frozen custard I've had in a long time! It was rich and creamy, but not too thick. It didn't give me that heavy feeling afterwards. The toppings were generous. I sat outside briefly before returning to my car and finish the rest of my delicious sundae in the AC. I went back today and this time, I went through the drive-thru. I ordered the ozark turtle sundae again and an Andy's kids sundae ($2.99) for my son. I chose vanilla frozen custard and hot fudge for his sundae. My sundae was as good as I remembered! Service was fast and friendly. I tried to tip the staff but she let me know that they do not accept tips.
google avatar

Vanessa N.

Yelp
We got the Snowmonster, and I'm glad we shared it because the cup sizes are huge. We originally wanted the kid size but were told the smallest size we could get was small. In any other place, the small cup would be a medium (or even a large!). The custard was exactly what you would expect.
google avatar

Hayes W.

Yelp
Mid at best. To many jimmys in one place at a time. Do not recommend. Over priced. Bad service

Neysa R.

Yelp
My partner and I recently moved to Alpharetta. We don't know anyone here but one night the first week we moved here we decided to try Andy's! This place and it's crew have continued to be a comforting presence for us ever since. We go here once a week and are treated so kindly every single time by every single employee. Not only is the crew always friendly and fast but the custard is always delicious and consistent. They have a motto on their wall in the drive thru that says "remember you can make their day" and they truly do. We love you Andy's!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally got to try this place after seeing it on Instagram. The place is cute. Brightly colored exterior with a long bench for seating wrapped around the front of the building. Looks very clean inside and out. You can either drive thru or walk up to the window and order. There are markers on the ground to show you how much distance to leave between the other people in line. The boy behind the counter who took our order was wearing a mask, but not gloves, which I find odd. He never wore gloves. Even as he put the spoons in our custard, he didn't try to cover them with a napkin or anything. I opted for a simple custard with hot fudge and the hubs got the triple chocolate concrete. Both were good and exactly what you'd expect from a custard place. I thought the small was a good size. Another good thing is the toppings really are mixed throughout. The menu has something for everyone. You can keep it simple and just add a topping or two, choose one of their designed concretes or a sundae. There's also a seasonal, limited-time menu. I almost got the blackberry or strawberry shortcake seasonal but opted for the hot fudge instead. I'd definitely come here again, if I was in the area. It wasn't life changing custard, so I'm not sure I'd drive out of my way. But it's definitely worth a stop in when you are nearby.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
This place is legit! First time I've ever had Andy's custard and it was awesome. I had their Turtle Sundae and it was rich, silky smooth, and full of flavor. The place was packed on this Very hot Sunday evening, which also happens to be national ice cream Day. Although it was very busy, the staff was very efficient, helpful, and pleasant. A Big 5 stars!
google avatar

Paulina A.

Yelp
I stopped in to try Andy's Frozen Custard and it's a very colorful glass building with a 50s vibe. The service was wonderful. I ordered a cup of the vanilla custard and it was delicious and creamy, just would have preferred a thicker custard-like consistency.
google avatar

Phoebe T.

Yelp
A fun place that was nearby a baseball tournament we were at. Our game ended at 11pm and this place was busy busy! We went the next day and enjoyed a MYO custard with strawberries and cheesecake. Overall similar to Dairy Queen. I do wish there was indoor seating or fans outside, but overall a fun place and a great addition to the area
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
Divine. I tell you, divine. Also, super fast and big portion. They're not charging you $6 for some dingy little cup. Totally worth it. Will come here everyday for the rest of my life. This is one of those places where their marketing team isn't hustling as they should. Probably because they know their product is freaking awesome, without aggressive advertisement! Therefore, I shall help spread the word! Go to Andy's now!
google avatar

Dej C.

Yelp
Way better than brusters or any other ocean place they blend all your toppings into your icebreaker which is different and trust me your tastebuds will thank you later!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
We always love a stop to Andy's. We actually drive from Dunwoody to this location.y nine year old is a purist - scoop of chocolate with m and m's. A concrete is always my go to. My husband is a straw-Ana fan.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
New experience. Associate taking the order at the drive thru was friendly and helpful in explaining the items ordered. Portions were ample, flavor was great. The drive thru wait was minimal. Plenty of parking so we could park and have a car picnic. Will definitely visit again when in this area.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
I am from St. Louis, so I am already a frozen custard snob. Andy's has a great selection of flavors and concretes. Really really good custard. Today, we tried the snowmonster concrete with strawberries and melted chocolate, the apple pie concrete and the peppermint fudge sundae. All were unbelievably good! If you've never had frozen custard, you MUST try it. Good any time of year. Trust me.
google avatar

Emilia N.

Yelp
We often bring our girls here for our family date night. My go-to is the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer (whew that's a mouthful), sub for chocolate custard. Mmmm, so tasty. I've also enjoyed a couple of their summer flavors, like the strawberry shortcake sundae or the blackberry concrete. You can also customize a concrete and one of my favorites is strawberry and Oreo with vanilla custard. Everyone has always been super polite, whether we use the drive-thru or the walk-up window. Speaking of the drive-thru, it's a little odd because you are forced to circle the entire lot (including the Valvoline) and then actually enter the Andy's drive-thru.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
This place is a favorite and the place we rush to when the sweet tooth takes over. Awesome custard and it's a hotspot.
google avatar

Trace E.

Yelp
I just had to stop by and leave a review. My husband and I saw a video on TikTok that showed your place. Now mind you, I worked in an office by your location and I saw when you were building. Because of going to permanent Work From Home, I never had the chance to try. Today, we changed that. We specifically came by because we saw you used Anderson Erickson for your egg nog. My better half is from Kansas and swears by all Anderson Erickson products. So I tried it. I have to say, it was the BEST Egg Nog Shake that I've ever had. No chemical taste and just delicious. The young lady that waited on us was just absolutely wonderful. In the brief interaction she was sweet and funny. Anyway, if you're wanting custard, ice cream or a malt/shake ... and you're in the area ... this place is worth it!
google avatar

F F.

Yelp
I mean what can I say? Shakes, malts, concretes, sodas, etc etc. It's not just a kid's dream, but also a dream for those grown ups with a major sweet tooth. Very creamy and icy and flavorful and sweet. It's all there. So many flavors to choose from, just wish they had extra small sizes of their specialty stuff for those of us that don't want our insulin levels spiking from one of these lol. I think half the concrete I got is still sitting in the freezer cause I don't eat a lot of sugar/sweets especially not at one time. The line was very slow moving and I also wish they had more locations in the Atlanta metro area. Price point is a bit high also imo. But great stuff for a once in a blue moon treat especially if in the area.
google avatar

Giovanna H.

Yelp
New, exciting, super cute, and what menu! Took the whole gang here (of kids) to try it out as we celebrate the beginning of Summer. It was the perfect day, super sunny and hot! The kids loved it and so did the Moms (wink wink) Very good custard and love all the toppings. My favorite part was peeking in through the windows to see the huge ice cream machines.
google avatar

Paula N.

Yelp
So good!! We've been here a few times as recommended by several people and absolutely love it! I loveee the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer (brownies, peanut butter, hot fudge, vanilla custard). It is my go to! My boyfriend always gets the Bootdaddy Concrete, which comes with Oreo, caramel, and hot fudge with either vanilla or chocolate custard. He gets it with vanilla and he loves it. I've also tried the triple chocolate concrete and that's my second fave. But only for days I really just want to overwhelm myself with chocolate! Love that they have seasonal ones as well. We just moved here so I'm really looking forward to trying those out!

Yelp
Customer Service: 5 stars: came 8-9-20 in the evening; a very adorable, caucasian young lady, with bright blue eyes, and amazing natural lashes welcomed us and advised us of what was new. We came for the strawberry short cake because we fell in love with it in Branson, she regretfully informed us due to the coronavirus, suppliers couldn't keep up with the demand and recommended the peach feature they have. Custard: 5 stars: THIS PLACE HAS CUSTARD FOLKS. I hate Rita's frozen ice/custard. An owner of Rita's Ron Tennessee actually wanted to argue with they had better custard than Andy's. Ha! Stevie wonder could see that's not even true!! The toppings I got were strawberry and peach, fresh, and delicious. I know what I'm talking about people we came here and we live a hour away so trust me, it's good. It's the same consistent quality of the Andy's in branson, mo. Cleanliness: 4 stars: From what I could tell on the inside from looking outside pretty neat and organized in there. The outside was clean, no liter or debris on the grounds. Price point: 5 stars: I think the prices are fair. A family of 4 could spend $10-$30 there depending on what you get. We go to jenis splendid icecreams and we drop $20 for (3) double or triple scoop cones. Overall: this place is great. They are hiring if anyone needs a job. Great customer service here and in Branson, Mo. Great quality, great product, although we didnt get what we came for, we left satisfied with our orders. Keep up the great work guys, I'm so happy you are surviving the coronavirus and still open. You were worth the drive!

Yelp
I was aghast at the number of customers that walked up to the window without a mask. I think management should put up a barrier (like all other fast food restaurants do) to protect their employees. That being said, I like Andy's and get a chance to visit a couple of times a month.
google avatar

Shonda D.

Yelp
This is a really cute place! I have been a few times with friends. I had a seasonal berry frozen yogurt with waffle pieces. I wish they added it to the menu because I would come more often.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
The most amazing place for the best custard in the world! They have amazingly fast service. Great attitude and brings smiles to everyone's face (I am a mom of 9 kids) We love it here

Yelp
A great place to grab a cold treat! I came in with my fiancé a few days ago. We came around 7:30pm on a Tuesday and it was a bit crowded, but not overly crowded. I can imagine it's very crowded on the weekends though! They don't have any indoor seating. They do have some benches outside to sit on. They have a window to order at, as well as a drive though. You can see in the windows that it is quite an operation! Constantly churning out fresh custard. The smell wafting though the window is tempting! They have so so so many options of flavors and mix ins. I love concretes, so I went with that. I got the special - AJ Almond Digger. It was swirled with hot fudge, almonds, heath bar and peanut butter! All my favorite topping! My fiancé got the triple chocolate. Chocolate custard blended with cookie dough and melted chocolate. So good! You can just tell that the custard is fresh. You can create your own concrete or sundae. Or you can just get some regular custard if that's your style. A great place to grab dessert and a must try!

Yelp
GREAT Service! Delicious, creamy semi-sweet Frozen Ice Cream!!! Frozen Custard was SO delicious, but the service with the workers adding for an even better experience! The BootDaddy was my personal favorite - Cashier thought it was a good choice - a little bit of a line, but since there is so much on the menu it's a good time to decide what you want. Overall great food + service! Definitely a favorite!!!

Yelp
Aug 20th visit - There was a rather large crowd in the evening. This location has quite a few kids working at this store. I didn't see any adults helping the kids manage the large group of people. The young girl that was serving us was in tears from the stress of trying to fill orders but didn't quite understand the system well enough. One of her other team members was trying to help her, but was busy herself. To the owner of this franchise, shame on you. Your shift manager/supervisor needs a re-education of how to run a business and have some empathy to help the staff. The entire crew was running around in a chaotic manner.
