What to Order for takeout from Midtown Global Market | Eater Twin Cities

"Pandemic induced cravings for American comfort staples like hoagies, burgers and fried chicken can all be satiated at Andy’s Garage. FYI, a root beer float is a perfectly acceptable appetizer to tide you over on the drive home." - Alex Lodner

My Chiliquiles were absolutely UHmazing! I just landed from Texas and I missed our food. I will definitely be back when I am in town.

After my first long bike ride in the dead cold of winter, I went to Andy’s Garage in Midtown Global Market and ordered this hot mess. My world was brought to life. Delicious, tangy, spicy, and flavorful, it was only made better by the friendliness of the staff. Can’t go wrong with anything at Andy’s.

One of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve had in awhile, and the fries were fresh. Great place!

Google
The patty melt was a truly awful experience. There is more cheese on a McDonald's cheeseburger than on this Patty melt, which is supposed to be gooey cheesy surrounding meat and have a bunch of onions melted into the cheese and nicely toasted bread. A few onions and a small slice of thin cheese with an odd meat patty just doesn't cut it. The breakfast burrito was great, so this review is an average of the two.

Yelp
I had a morning class through Allina Health and the nurse instructors were excited to get their Andy's Omelette. So I had to try for myself. This was a good classic omelette - egg is well done, cooked flat like a crepe and folded. Onions were deeply caramelized, jalapeño bacon was the optimal protein (staff recommend, thanks). There was a good butter taste to the whole thing. Also, tip: ask for the homemade hot sauce Midtown is a cool spot to walk around and dine in - it feels like a bunch of open air restaurants, though of course there is no fresh air. If that Turkish restaurant is still around, that would be a good lunch option

Yelp
Service was great. Very kind and speedy. Food: Grilled Cheese - 4 Stars Tasted very great. Cheese could've been a little more melted. Would order again! Andy's Deluxe Burger - 3 Stars Tasted okay. Tomatoes, pickles, and lettuce tasted and looked fresh. Meat left more to be desired as far as seasoning/flavor! Fries - 2 Stars Not great. Could've been more crispy. All the salt was at the bottom of the tub. Could easily be 4 stars on a good day. Also, the ketchup tasted very weird. Almost like it had too much vinegar and not enough salt. Just off.

Yelp
This place has a mix of American and Mexican cuisine. If you're looking to have tacos I would recommend trying out the ones at Andy's garage. They do such a good job with the meat. It's not chopped up into tiny pieces and the sauce is amazing. I appreciate the professional friendly service there as well.

Yelp
I never expected to get Mexican food in Minnesota!!! This was one of the best quesebirrias I have ever had and the chorizo breakfast burrito was awesome! The breakfast burritos are large and packed with meat! The restaurant is located in a stall at the midtown global market. All the food is made to order and served hot and fresh! You will definitely enjoy perusing the market while you wait for your food. Lots of fun visiting this hidden gem! The service was great! The gentlemen taking my order was super helpful and friendly. Even while was fast and efficient, you don't feel rushed. Ambiance was nice for a market place stall.

Yelp
How have I never had this before?! This place is AWESOME. Seriously! Diner food for diner prices! Since I had a burger just a few days ago, I decided to get a baked potato since those are served during lunch only. I love a good baked potato so I was excited to try Matthew's Potato - a baked potato with cheese and bacon. I decided to add broccoli, too, which wasn't much of an extra charge. The potato was monstrous. Almost the size of 1.5 normal baked potatoes. I do wish there were a little more cheese, but the bacon and broccoli were loaded on there! There was butter and sour cream on the side which was nice since I don't love my baked potatoes doused in sour cream. The strawberry malt is to DIE FOR. Made with real strawberries! It tasted like a strawberry smoothie even. I loved my experience at Andy's Garage. Definitely my new favorite at Midtown Global Market!

Yelp
Its closed now but my besties dad owned it and the staff were so nice! I reccomend the milkshakes!

Yelp
Okay I'm updating my review of Andy's. I got the mushroom and Swiss burger, the same I had previously to make it fair. OMG what a delicious burger at a great price! The meat was cooked perfectly and the toppings were outstanding! Squishy bun and all of the things! I still recommend double frying the fries, however they are still delicious! Nice job, Andy's!

Yelp
I love eating here. I work across the street and will usually call ahead and place my order. The breakfast burrito will literally have you full until dinner time! The bacon bleu burger is also a must have with fries. The service is quick and the staff is always friendly. I work from home now due to COVID but have the option to come in office if needed and will literally come to work just so I can eat at Andy's.

Yelp
Awesome burger loaded with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and a big helping of homemade chips on the side. Replace the chips with fresh cut fries for a buck. Good selection of shakes and malts. The large is plenty big for two to share. Seating feels like you're in a garage, imagine that. Drinks and condiments are self serve. Free refills. They open at 7am so come for breakfast or try a baked potato for lunch. Or a salad or a wrap. Or a Sammie. Or just a Root Beer Float. Something for everyone, any time of day. This was my first time here, but not my last. Fair price for good food and a good time (if I hadn't enjoyed my date, I could have watched Back to the Future playing on the tv). Andy's Garage -- Try it.

Yelp
If you want to enjoy your food, avoid this restaurant. I placed an order online, it was confirmed and had a pickup time assigned. I walked over for my lunch break only to find out they were not going to fill my order. I didn't have extra time, so now I don't get to eat today. The staff didn't care at all and said they cancelled it without any effort to contact me.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
A friend told me Andy's has the best fries at MGM. I haven't had anyone else's fries, but Andy's might be a contender. If you get a full order, be prepared to share. Three of Andy's potatoes yields a lot of fries! The Fry Snob in me was pleased. I look forward to trying a burger in the future.

Yelp
Absolutely "The Restaurant" for takeout food at Midtown Mall! Andy's Garage has the largest portions, and the Best "Down Home" American and Mexican Food in Minneapolis!
google avatar

Yelp
The Global Midtown Market is notable for its diverse array of international shops and restaurants. Collectively, they mirror the growing diversity of the Minneapolis metro area. So, to find an old-fashioned American diner among Somali, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Korean, Jamaican, East Indian, Native American and other ethnic fare makes it a stand out. We were there for breakfast and ordered what I would call a 2-egg "scramble". The dish included veggies, great whole wheat toast and the best home fried potatoes I recall having in a diner. A great choice. Too bad they don't serve coffee, but they direct you to Mapps, just down the aisle. A bit of a hassle, but easily done while you're waiting for your food.

Yelp
I have had their burgers twice- LOVE. I intend on trying other stuff on the menu eventually, but the burger is fresh and juicy and has that char that you want on a burger. I also tried a vanilla malt from here and I have to say, although a malt is almost foolproof, it was one of the best malts I have had. It was the perfect consistency and not overly sweet or too thick, etc. Now about the fries. . . I have tried them twice with an open mind~I do not like them~ Pros: They are made to order, they have a nice seasoning, they are made from raw potatoes and not frozen. Cons: They aren't crispy, they seem to be soggy and sag when you pick one up. . It's a personal taste bc people LOVE these fries, my co-workers either love or hate them. I still would fully recommend the burgers and malt and probably everything else here.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
I will continue to eat here, I almost always order their Buffalo chicken sandwich. Super messy but I don't care. I enjoy it. What I don't enjoy as much, as so many others seem to have, are their fries. They are almost always soggy. This is an easy fix too. Soak the potatoes in water before dropping them into the fryer. Afterwards, dry them out and you wont have soggy fries. This simple change would make their fries crispy and this would then be a 5 star review. Please someone get them to change how they make their fries!

Yelp
I walk through the Midtown Global Market several times a week and I'm always overwhelmed by the amount of different options that are offered, but I had just come from the gym and wanted something filling. I thought a burger would be the perfect craving killer for me so I ordered the RMBL in the JNGL burger because the pineapple addition sounded scrumptious! I waited about 10 minutes for my food which felt like an eternity probably just because of my post-workout hunger so I won't knock them for that. Overall the burger itself was very very dry even with a slice of pineapple, fresh tomato, and teriyaki sauce and the flavor was lacking. I like my burgers to drop and have great meaty flavor, but the patty was overlooked and tasted like lunch meat. The fries were nice and soft with good crunchy bits throughout so they were a highlight, but I wasn't fully content with my experience here. Midtown Global Market has some great spots but this shouldn't be your first experience.

Yelp
First time coming here. I came here on my first and last day visiting Minneapolis. The food here is phenomenal. The theme definitely reminds me like I'm in the 50s, the employees were friendly and funny. If you don't like cultured food this may be the place for you. Perfect for date night.

Yelp
DO not order from here, the rude female Manager is awful, they charged us $32 for 2 omelets and 2 shakes, but only gave us 1 Omelet. Told us it was Ubereats problem not theirs and they wouldn't correct it. FIrst the manager refused to get on the phone because she was "too busy to deal with a customer complaint right now", but then reluctantly got on the phone when I insisted they get someone on the phone. I will never order from here again and will be contacting the owner about the rude manager. They are definitely NOT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

LaTasha S.

Yelp
Had the Chicken wrap - the meat was over cooked basically to a crisp (very hard) I thought it might chip a tooth! The fries well, the are homemade and quite soggy. Service is decent, but I would not keep giving them my money.
google avatar

Brandi G.

Yelp
Our Edina foodie friend told us we must try the fresh cut fries. And, Andy's did not disappoint! For just $3 we got a huuuuge portion of fresh cut fries. They had the potatoes piled high, ready to be cut & fried! The only thing that would make them better would be some seasoned salt. But, hot and fresh from the oil, I can't complain about plain salt. The fries were delicious!!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Sadly disappointed. I've had their burgers and fries in the past which were pretty decent but today I Ordered an Oreo malt shake and was very taken back. Since it is a classic dinner themed place I was expecting a mind blowing malt. Real thick and creamy! Instead I got a total meltdown. You can tell it was made from those cheap ice cream machines that usually give you $1 cones. This one went for $4.25 and since I ordered it through Postmates I ended up paying 10.96 for this sad sucker.
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
Used to love this place. Now it takes 30 minutes to get a grilled cheese for my kids with unmelted cheese. No good.
google avatar

Bev G.

Yelp
Great burgers, I love love love the salads. For the price they are huge, usually get the Club salad...always fresh and a huge amount. Fries are good, get a half order or there is too much and they can get soggy too quickly. The Malts also are very tasty. Great place in the global market

Yelp
While at Midtown, we walked past this place and in my never ending quest to find the best cheese curds, I had to stop and wreck a batch of there's. These were some really solid curds. Very light batter, not the tempura kind, but, almost like a very light fried shrimp kind with the little crumby parts. Curds themselves were not bad. Good chew to them and a solid texture, well cooked throughout. Good level of salt from the cheese, and tried with two dips. Normal Heinz ketchup and a little ranch. Far better with ranch than ketchup, but no marinara or house red sauce to try them with. Were they mind blowing cheese curds? Nope. Were they state fair worthy (our true Minnesota gauge of curds)? Nope. Were they solid curds to satisfy me for a week? Yup. Leaves a lot to be desired for the regular food for the next time I'm in Midtown, that's for sure.

Yelp
Nice to meet you, Andy. You are comfort-food-central. I'll take that mushroom swiss burger with some fried onions please. Oh, and don't forget the sweet potato fries. But can you not be as busy at noon as you were today? I waited ten or so minutes in line to order, and then another seven or so for my food. I will be back to see if you've improved - TRUST me on that one!
google avatar

Jesse O.

Yelp
Man this place was great! I was craving a burger all day and since i dont live in the cites, i wanted to go somewhere good and unique. Ordered the pain ol' cheeseburger w onion rings. So glad i did! I will be honest, the onion rings were a three and a burger a five, but so many others have oddly raved about the great food and given this place three stars (weird, right) i will give them an extra one! Anyways, onion rings a little overdone. My boyfriend's waffle fries were perfect. Some suggestions: cook onion rings less, have a pump of mustard and mayo, never stop using those buns and pickles they are insanely good. :)
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
I had the patty melt which is superb. The fresh cut fries are a must have. I was able to meet the owner while I was there and his dedication to excellence is superb. I can't wait till I'm back in the twin cities to go back again!

Yelp
I walked around the Midtown Exchange looking for a place to eat and I happened to walk by Andy's Garage. The menu was simple and wasn't saturated with so many different entree options. It made ordering easy. You could see the kitchen from the counter and everything was clean and organized. The workers also looked clean and well groomed. I ordered the cheeseburger with a side of fries and a shake, it came to around $12. The wait was a little longer than I expected but it was all being cooked fresh to order. I got my burger before my shake and as I approached the counter I realized they ran out of bananas and had to buy more because one of the employees was holding a stem of them. The freshness of everything was refreshing to see. The food was delicious and so was the shake. Definitely worth the price for the quality. I would recommend this place, it's a good choice. Pros: Fresh food, fair pricing. Cons: Wait a little longer than usual.
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
I have only been at this location a few times, and every time I was really glad to have eat here. I like how they have old-fashioned memorabilia to remind me of a classic diner. It seems that the people who work here take their time to make sure the food is done right. Their fish burger had a fishy taste which I actually like, and their shakes are sooo good. This place is actually worth a stop.

Yelp
ok, ok...I have to admit I was in need of some major comfort food after my dad being in surgery recovery for 3 days. I had already hit up most of the other eateries. Andy's delivered what I needed. BAKED POTATOES. Bring it. When I'm in a mood, I need carbs. And cheese. I got a big baked potato with broccoli and cheese and it was awesome for lunch. The only thing I would change is the ability to put the butter and sour cream on my potato before the cheddar and broccoli are on, but I am very particular about eating baked potatoes. It's always a ritual for me. Very nice Andy's.

Mary S.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Andy's fresh cut French fries. I e only had one experience where they were subpar; most of the time they are perfect. Their veggie burger is a premise frozen patty, but the toppings are always fresh and yummy and the bun is toasted. Baked potatoes are also pretty dang good.
google avatar

BK J.

Yelp
Andy's does breakfast. Not sure if everyone is aware of that. I opted for a classic, two eggs, potatoes, toast and breakfast meat (unfortunately they don't have ham as an option). Eggs were done perfectly and the bacon was nicely crisp. Potatoes were of the diced variety with red and green bell pepper. Tobasco is available upon request. The portion size is large, so plan appropriately. Service was quick and efficient. If craving classic American diner eats, Andy's can take care of you.

Jake V.

Yelp
Great prices, lackluster burger and chips. After reading several other reviews and responses from an owner or manager, I still don't understand why they don't provide condiments for to go orders. If someone needs to request it, then add it as an option to do so. I'm not going to write a custom message asking for something that 90% of places just include when you order. Take a page out of Five Guys UberEats menu if you need help with that. Onto the food, dry burger and soggy chips. Enough said on that. The cheese was barely melted on the burger. I guess you can't expect much for a $7 burger but there are plenty of other places in The Minneapolis area who deliver a much better product, with condiments.
google avatar

Janelle C.

Yelp
Turkey and wild rice burger was moist and delicious. Sweet potato fried were hot, crispy, and well seasoned. Nice option in the market.
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
An amazing place to eat nestled inside the Midtown Global market!!! I got the Diablo burger and it was awesome!!! The staff was fun and friendly, the only problem was that they were out of ketchup but that was hardly a problem with the deliciousness of the food, I love a good burger, and this place is definitely one I"m going back to next time I'm near the Global Market!!!
google avatar

Vicki F.

Yelp
Got the turkey club with chips as the side. The toast was proportional to the amount of meat within the sandwich and there was a perfect amount of mayo on it. Meal was well priced at approx. $8. One of my favorite new places in the Midtown Global Marketplace.
google avatar

Lamark B.

Yelp
An absolute home run of a Burger joint. Easily one of my top five Burger places in the twin cities the Burger was juicy and flavorful with some of the best pickles I've ever had and I love pickles so Ive tried my fair share of them I got chips with my Burger but next time I might try the fries the chips were good though crispy with just enough salt. Definitely a go to spot.
google avatar

Nate J.

Yelp
You have to love a place where you order the fries, they take a whole potato, cut it, and fry it up right in front of you. You won't be disappointed but also won't be amazed. Other than the fries (and occasionally a malt) there isn't anything spectacular about the menu (and even the fries aren't exceptional). Not a lot of seating and the wait for food can be a bit long (in their defense they do cook to order).

Sarah K.

Yelp
No Ketchup or Mustard For You! I spent over $10 on a simple burger and fries. I politely asked for ketchup and mustard with my order. Was told that they don't provide "condiments" for To Go or Delivery orders. If they are so broke, then what are they using to make the burgers???? Disgusting. Also added Romaine lettuce during this ecoli outbreak without asking me first. Gross.
google avatar

Gloria H.

Yelp
Wow! That was an amazing burger! Everything was delicious, from the Rmbl in the Jngl (teriyaki pineapple burger), to the Diablo burger (hot & spicy) and even the perfectly crispy chips! And the service was great!

Megan S.

Yelp
I will give this place the benefit of the doubt on food quality as it may not travel well. Others say the fries are great, but I ordered through Bite Squad and they were soggy and inedible. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger, and I couldn't taste the bleu cheese at all. The chili dog was not good either, and my boyfriend experienced diarrhea and vomiting after. We are only two miles away, so the food did not have to travel far to get to us. My biggest issue is that the order was wrong. We ordered the most expensive burger on the menu with chips, and it was missing from our order. Instead, we received an order of fries. That was an $8 difference. We were quite disappointed that we couldn't try their signature menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
Andy's Garage makes GREAT burgers at a reasonable price. If you're in the mood for tasty burger give them a shot. Why the two stars then? Reason #1. French Fries. Even though the french fries are freshly cut and made fresh, they are soggy and not crispy. I don't care for this style but you might. In Andy's defense, I do like their freshly made potato chips that are included in the price of the burger. I also enjoy the pickle. :) Reason #2. Mac & Cheese: terrible. I know it may be for kids but I would not even serve it to my children. I don't think it would be too tough to have some elbow macaroni on hand, boil the noodles, add butter, milk and some cheese to make a decent, fresh bowl of mac & cheese. The main reason I gave it two stars is because I I'm a whole package kind of guy. I need both a great burger and a great fry. I can go to Five Guys and get a burger that is close to Andy's and get crispy fries that I find to be much better.

Tamia A.

Yelp
Very convenient and super yummy for a low price! Burgers and smoothies are the best! I got a mango smoothie and an Oreo one and it holds so much flavor and can be very filling if you are a light eater.
google avatar

Rosario G.

Yelp
Best burger and freshly made fries in town! And fast and friendly service. They also have many shakes to choose from.

Josh K.

Yelp
They have really good burgers and malts/shakes!! The cost is also relatively low for the amount of food that you would get. I would suggest the cheeseburger with fries to begin with.

Jason R.

Yelp
While I like this place as they are one of the only places that are American foods in the Global Markup, I actually eat there extremely rarely. The burgers are good especially the diablo burger, but they are very greasy. I also like that they take a whole potato and cut it in front of you and fry them. The fries are golden brown and that is about it. The fries are ungodly greasy and soft. I have yet to try their home made potato chips, but I have had regular cheese burgers and they are also very greasy. I want to like them more, but they are expensive and have very greasy food. Maybe turn the heat up on the grease, or blanch the fries first. I usually just go to Holy Land for the fries there as they are much much better, but they are store bought..

Yelp
Since uber eats doesn't have a good feedback section I will use yelp. So decided to order from Andy's, things were well till they cancelled my first order, so I called the restaurant no one picked up, I thought maybe I made a mistake and cancelled my own order, so i order again, 10 minutes later I was called that they don't serve black bean burger and that order will be cancelled, so why do you have it on your menu if you don't serve it? weird, read yelp reviews seemed it wasn't an awful place so made the mistake of ordering again minus the black bean burger, it says they deliver within 35-45 minutes, at around 45 minutes there was no update from them so I called the restaurant again, some rude lady picked up who first said she never got my order.. mind you this is without asking me my order number or name or anything, then she switches to:" the driver never showed up", so I call uber eats they say that restaurant doesn't have my food ready yet so if I want to cancel I have to call the restaurant, I call the restaurant ..the same lady tells me she never got my order, um well why did you charge me then? then she switches to its already cancelled... then she switched to call uber I already cancelled, and then she switched back to the driver never showed up, I don't know if she is on automated response or what but she gave me all these answers without asking me anything about my order, unless she is also psychic I don't see how any of her answers were legit about my order. I asked her to talk to a manager, which she ignored and then hung up. based on my experience I reported them to UberEATS and might I suggest changing the name to Andy's garbage because that's what I experienced.

Yelp
Had lunch with some friends here on a recent visit to Minneapolis, what a treat! Had the Diablo Burger YUM! Cant' say enough about the fresh house-made kettle chips either super addictive! and delicious, and yes I had a chocolate shake too...what can I say, I just couldn't resist! Very fun crew there too, very polite and efficient service with a smile. The management here really seems to have their shit together. Perfect place to stop for lunch with friends or take a break while shopping at the market. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Minneapolis!

Ariana B.

Yelp
Forgot cheese on my boyfriend's burger and forgot bacon and sauce which we paid an extra 3 dollars for. Then when told they put his bitten burger back on the grill. When I asked for barbeque i was laughed at and when i asked for to go boxes (our food was supposed to already be togo) the cashier makes a disgusted look at me and laughs. We paid $25 for 2 burgers that weren't even our order. Disrespectful and unprofessional.
