Andy’s Home Cafe - Review - Northside - Houston - The Infatuation

"After closing in July of 2023, Andy’s Home Cafe has reopened at a new location on the Northside. The Tex-Mex family-run restaurant is smaller and has some of the same decorations—like paintings of Selena Quintanilla and a jukebox—from the original. You can also expect some dishes from the former menu, like plates of carne guisada and enchiladas. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Gianni Greene

An old favorite at it's new location. Everything was great. Food is excellent. The cheese enchiladas are the best in the city. I hope the new location is just as successful as the old one used to be, so get out and check out Andy's. I have lots of memories from the old location, we had a lot of family dinners there. My mom liked Andy's and she always complained, lol. She passed away in 2023 , Andy's will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for all the memories Andy's, I will make some new ones at your new location.

This is just how I remember. My parents went here as kids at the original location and now I come here even though I live an hour away. If your coming after the ball game or playing some games at cider cade, stop by here and grab an enchilada plate or the Carne guisada burritos with cheese, or a big bowl of caldo de res or menudo. This is what my parents got years ago and it's my go to now. You will not be disappointed. It's smaller than the original but that's ok because the food is still good as it was before. If you know how it was before you know what to expect. This is like coming back and visiting family. I'll definitely be back.

Missed Andy's so much! Had to go when I heard yall reopened! Getting in and out of parking lot was easy. Everyone super friendly. My cheese enchiladas are by far the best in the Greater Houston area! And of course, the Carne Guisada was sooo tender and yummy wth homemade flour tortillas! We'll be back!! ❤️

My partner and I have enjoyed the original Andy’s in its location in the Heights since the 90’s. Sad when they closed this location but now they’re open in a new location. We checked them out today and our food favorites from the original location were on the menu. We really enjoyed our time at the new location it was like seeing old friends and enjoying the same favorite food from the 90s. E&J 2024…

The history behind this restaurant was so heart warming, to know this family tuffed it out and passed this establishment down from generation to generation put a smile on my face. I was greeted and serve with a warm welcome, my waitress provided great customer service! I had the menudo and to know they served it that early in the day any day was a plus, I will be coming here from now on when I need a good soup with excellent flavor!

If you’re looking for some good home style ( Original ) Tex Mex, that’s been apart of Houston Tradition. If you don’t know Andy’s you just don’t know Houston. They might not be in the original location, but trust me when I say the food is still great.

Yelp
The service great and the food was delicious. It's been awhile that I have eaten here. Ain't gonna lie they still have that touch on the food. I'm definitely coming back for more food.

Yelp
I'm glad Andy's is back. The food is great! The chips and salsas are my favorite! Breakfast or lunch, you can't go wrong. The service is good.

Yelp
I used to go to go the old location once a week or so, I was glad to hear that they reopened. First of all the prices have gone up by about 30%, so its not the tasty and affordable neighborhood place it once was. Its prices are now in line with pricing at the bigger Mexican restaurants, the ones where you can also get a margarita with your meal! Plus this location is tiny and just doesn't have the same "home" feeling or vibe as the old place and they could certainly fix that but have apparently chosen not to which is sad. Another problem is the parking, it is horrible, the parking lot is always full from the loan office next door and the Edger barber shop with a packed house full of kids getting an Edger cut. I would also be a little careful of that area at night, definitely pretty ghetto and right in front of the Metro Tram Line. Unfortunately it is no longer the self proclaimed "bad ass" restaurant on 11th....errr make that North Main

Yelp
It's a solid place here. The food is not oversalted for Tex-Mex. If they use lard, which I think they do, it's not as heavy as other places. The food and salsa are also not spicy at all. My colombian enchiladas, cheese enchiladas with eggs on top, was a large portion. At $16, I thought it was high for the area. The restaurant is not that big but I came after 1pm on a Saturday so there were not that many customers. The restaurant shares a shopping strip parking lot so you may have issues finding a spot even when the restaurant is not busy. It makes me hesitant to check back for breakfast when I suspect everything is busier.

Yelp
Some of the best carne guisada I've had. Can't wait to go back! A must if you're just visiting and looking for a place that's a staple amongst the locals. My friend introduced me to this restaurant and I'll certainly be going again.

Yelp
After seeing pics decided to try it for brunch! Small & quaint about 10 tables & a small counter area. Great customer service from the moment you walk in! The Queso was fantastic, was a bit disappointed in the eggs & Guisada. Not as tender as I would've liked and definitely lacking in the flavor department! Menudo was good but also lacking flavor. Was disappointed so not sure if I would try again just different menu items!

Yelp
Missed Andy's sooo much! So excited to hear of the reopening! Came from Woodlands/Spring area and did not disappoint! Parking was easy in and out. Friendly service. Famous Carne Guisada was so tender and yummy! And my personal FAVE are their cheese enchiladas which I feel are the best in the Greater Houston Area! And of course HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS! We will definitely be back!! Oh, and my Fiancée was in disbelief at how good "real" tex mex (non food chain) food was, with his to-go order I got! 1st time he'd ever had carne guisada! And in his words he said the cheese enchiladas were "AWESOME"! See yall soon!

Yelp
Love the Carne Guisada, Enchiladas and Menudo here and you also can't go wrong with breakfast here.

Yelp
Just found out Andy's reopened. 30 years Heights resident and regular patron of Andy's on 11th. Good luck in your new location. I hope you will extend your hours to at least 10pm soon.

Yelp
So missed Andy's on 11th. So very happy we have Andy's back! 2121 N. Main St. Great location to eat at and also to stop by on way home from work (downtown) for food to go. The food is authentic Tex-Mex / authentic Mexican American food. Always so good. Truly the best menudo in town! The enchiladas are always amazing! Our families favorite place to eat. Get their dessert of the day too! The different cakes slices taste just like my momma used to make. Lastly, they have Big Red! Nothing like having Tex-Mex with a cold Big Red - a San Antonio staple! Wonderful customer service and welcoming all the time with a spotless, and comfortable atmosphere. Support local businesses. Stop by Andy's Home Cafe and you will keep coming back!

Yelp
We've enjoyed the original location for many years so decided to give the new spot a try. For starters we will continue to support Andy's as there are a few items that we really enjoy, and we are all about supporting small businesses. I will admit we were disappointed in the size of the restaurant, the parking, the new tortilla chips and the watery red salsa. Hopefully some of the new downfalls will be corrected.

Yelp
I was a customer of the original Andy's for decades. I visited their new place tonight longing for their good food. I'm so sorry to say that the food portion is much smaller as well the plates, the food was cold, and tasteless. No seasoning at all. The chips are from a bag now, tortillas are horrible, not the same and the salsa is watered down. At least the salsa was warm. Limited drink selection. Only one waitress for the whole place, and looked so stressed! The food quality and price are not worth another visit from me. I suggest they get a bigger place and serve the food hot at least.

Jeff A.

Yelp
I can't believe people wrote ugly reviews the first week in a new place. The crowds have obviously been huge, new waitresses, need a little oil before it all runs perfectly, but the staff is smiling and warm and happy and the food tastes exactly the same as always. I went opening day (yep, it was a little crazy) and I'm headed back now. If you're really a loyal customer, don't let one bad experience on opening week make you want to never come back. Geez.

Mike M.

Yelp
Glad to have Andy's back! Everything I ordered was as good as I remembered it. I hope they get enough people to support the new location.

Yelp
so happy to see them again! yes, you have to wait but patience is a part of life. If you are craving good homestyle Mexican come to Andys.

Yelp
This place is so small! It's a shame because they have a big following. We stopped by today Thursday around 3 pm thinking it would be a good time during the off hours. Well, wrong, the place was packed with people waiting on their food. The cashier came up to us to tell us to wait outside because the food service was running behind. No wonder we saw so many hungry faces. The parking is very tight with no where to park! Only one handicapped space. We just couldn't get over the fact that the place is very small and tables were too close to one another. We left and won't be back.
