Pizza with 72-hour cold fermented crust, creative toppings

"A 72-hour cold fermentation provides a hint of tang for the envelope-thin crust on this New York-style slice shop that quickly expanded since its debut in Tysons gallery. Andy’s can now be found in sizable Shaw digs, at Atlas Brew Works in Navy Yard, inside a NoMa apartment building, the top of Adams Morgan’s nightlife corridor, and Old Town Alexandria, Foggy Bottom, and Bethesda. The company sells 18-inch pies and individual slices in classic flavors and specials like a popular white pie with mozzarella, provolone, roasted cremini mushrooms, and caramelized onions. One fun wrinkle at Andy’s is the ability to order a whole pizza with a different flavor on every slice. Order takeout or delivery online." - Tierney Plumb, Eater Staff

"After suddenly closing its pint-sized Shaw address in early April, I was glad to see Andy’s Pizza quickly reopen in a huge new Shaw flagship in the old Hazel space (808 V Street NW), situated across from its first D.C. location and the legendary 9:30 Club. The New York-style slice shop now features a stylish, spacious covered patio, a full bar with extensive drafts, frozen cocktails and a soda machine that dispenses highballs, a 12-foot refrigerated wall of bottled and canned beers, and some 200 pizza-friendly wines available to take home or enjoy on-site. Andy’s is known for 18-inch pies and individual slices in classic flavors and rotating specials—most notably a best-selling white pie with mozzarella, provolone, roasted cremini mushrooms, and caramelized onions—and its 72-hour cold fermentation gives the crust a unique tang that helped it win the top pie prize at the 2021 International Pizza Challenge. The larger kitchen was built to fix the cramped original space, hours run late for nightlife crowds (Fri–Sat until 3 a.m.), takeout and delivery are available online, and the grand opening included a two-day party with a free slice with any bar purchase." - Tierney Plumb

"I noticed the walk-up Andy’s Pizza currently in the soon-to-be-old Whitlow’s DC space is expanding—taking over a larger Shaw spot—and also plans to open soon in the old Hazel space nearby at 808 V Street NW with room for 75 customers." - Tierney Plumb

"Shaw newcomer Andy’s Pizza is encouraging customers to host their own virtual happy hours with friends by including a free cocktail with its New York-style pies. A “host” selects a cocktail for a group to share, and “attendees” just have to note they are part of the host’s happy hour to get their free drink. Andy’s is also offering the host pizza and cocktails on the house. Happy hours must have at least five “attendees” to be eligible for the deal, which runs Monday through Wednesday." - Tierney Plumb
