The Essential Pizza Restaurants in D.C.

"A 72-hour cold fermentation provides a hint of tang for the envelope-thin crust on this New York-style slice shop that quickly expanded since its debut in Tysons gallery. Andy’s can now be found in sizable Shaw digs, at Atlas Brew Works in Navy Yard, inside a NoMa apartment building, the top of Adams Morgan’s nightlife corridor, and Old Town Alexandria, Foggy Bottom, and Bethesda. The company sells 18-inch pies and individual slices in classic flavors and specials like a popular white pie with mozzarella, provolone, roasted cremini mushrooms, and caramelized onions. One fun wrinkle at Andy’s is the ability to order a whole pizza with a different flavor on every slice. Order takeout or delivery online." - Tierney Plumb, Eater Staff

I enjoyed my burger very much, I just wish they could of added tomatoes and lettuce. They need more burger options. The Pizza was horrible tho. Cold and hard. Would not recommend.

2nd time to Andy's Pizza. This time pregaming before the Lords of Acid show across the street at the 9:30 Club. Great pizza with an amazing beer selection!! Gotta love all the local brewery offerings!!

Google
Jeremy is an AMAZING bartender!! I’ve been here a bunch of times and am always delighted when he’s behind the bar. Customer service is amazing. His blackberry lemon drop is TO DIE FOR! He’s the reason I keep coming back! 100000/10

Google
Decent New York style pizza. A little bland for my taste but didn’t stop me from eating 3 slices :) staff works hard to keep orders moving. Old bay fries had way too much old bay. Great spot for a bite post concert across the street !

Google
Really solid pizza. I’m from Jersey and these New York style slices don’t disappoint. Definitely the best I’ve had in the DMV so far. Dining area is nice. No waiter service - you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Service was very friendly, despite us coming right before close. Easily accessible from the U street Metro station. I’ll definitely be back, especially after a show at 9:30 Club! (literally right across the street)

Google
Seriously delicious pizza. Very chill vibe on the patio. Super family friendly. The decor of the ladies bathroom is amazing 🤩

Google
I almost don’t want to leave this review because I don’t want to give away all the secrets but I love Andy’s!! This is probably my favorite all-around restaurant in DC. Delicious pizza, fast and easy service, high quality beer and bev selection. Easy for families, great indoor and outdoor seating, always consistent and high quality. We visit at least 1-2x per month. I hope it sticks around for a very long time!

Yelp
andy's will never fail me!! one of my favorite if not my top pizza place in dc. i often go to the shaw location but have also been to the others like admo and noma. the sausage and pepper pizza and mushroom and onion pizza always hit the spot. the pepperoni special pizza (not pictured) is also so delicious. the hot honey on top is just chef's kiss every time! great vibes and great pizza - always!

Yelp
Andy's got a PIZZA my heart . Super crowded on a Saturday night but find a table and you're crew is set! Indoor/outdoor seating with a cute mural in the back. - Chicken Enchilada -- lots of chicken deliciously topped with salsa verde. - Mushroom & Onion -- glazed onions made for such savory bites. Andy's offers big non-greasy slices of amazing pizza. If we weren't going out clubbing right after, I'd of ordered a slice of every flavor. Settled for the two that interested me the most and was very happily satisfied. Next time I'm ordering every flavor available (: . cheers!

Yelp
While the pizza itself is very tasty and an excellent option in the neighborhood, after 3+ visits to this location, I think I will pass next time. Another reviewer mentioned the "what are you doing here?" look they received from the staff; I have had similar experiences. The staff is very unhelpful when it comes to seating inside - it's hard to tell if there are any tables open from the entrance, and I tried to ask if there were any available tables so I wouldn't have to walk around the dining area looking for a table when others were dining. The staff basically ignored me and told me it's open seating while they were chatting at the bar with their backs to me. I don't understand why they have you order at the bar then sit; I couldn't even get to the bar, it was so crowded with staff - it felt inefficient and like I was standing there for ages before someone even looked at me. The slices are great and ready pretty immediately - but I would NOT recommend ordering anything else. I ordered brussel sprouts and was told it would be about 15-20 mins. There's no way to know your food is ready unless you're standing there - and they also didn't have me take a number or anything, so there's no way to identify your order from another person who ordered the same. I ended up waiting probably 50 minutes for the brussel sprouts - I think they either forgot about them or accidentally gave my order to someone else. It was very busy in the takeout area and I felt like I was constantly in the way - so I did go sit outside and try to give them the time and space they needed to get the orders through. After waiting 30 mins, I wanted to make my presence known, and only then was there an "oh shit" moment from staff when they realized they didn't have my food. The manager gave me a coupon for a free slice, which was kind. I like the pizza but after a few disappointing dine-in experiences, I'll probably refrain from Andy's in the future.

Yelp
100% yes. Came in for a quick slice after a night on U street and this was am absolute hit. Perfect crust -- think but not hard with just the right chew. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio in the Margherita style slice and plenty of chicken in the Buffalo chicken slice (he ate it up instantly without so much as a word which is a good sign that he's happy). I see why there was a line out the door for carry out. Would highly recommend if you are in the area and, quite honestly, wish we had one closer to home. DC isn't known for pizza but this place does it very well indeed.

Yelp
BEST NYC style PIZZA near Howard University in Washington, DC. Needed a quick bite, inexpensive but DELICIOUS... this is your spot. I got 2 slices ( and my pizza server thought one of my slices was sliced incorrectly in size so gave me two ) and a drink for $10!!!! The spot has a nice patio to sit outside! And inside has a wide selection of liquor for alcoholic beverages with a television for watching sport events. The Pizza itself is the STAR of the show. The crust is light and airy with the perfect crisp. The cheese and sauce are just perfect. They provide you Parmesan cheese in a little cute container if you want to sprinkle it over your slice. Would highly recommend. I know when I return for HU homecoming this fall, I will return back there for another couple of slices!!!

Yelp
Andys pizza is always fabulous! The location is also convenient! I like that they have late hours. Unfortunately when I tried to go last weekend they were closed with a bunch of people wanting pizza. Highly recommend any Andy's pizza. This one was clean, quick, and has a cool vibe. There is also a full bar if that is what you're looking for!

Charles ..

Yelp
The pizza was so good and they are very welcoming. they have so much to choose from and the vibes of the store was so good.!

Ellie D.

Yelp
Wonderful. Would recommend to all truly and enjoyed after a show at 9:30 club show bought tickets to box office no fees

Yelp
As a former New Yorker, I have had my fair share of really good pizza and Andy's is right up there. Always quick service even with a line. The hardest part is choosing which slice to get!

Yelp
Stumbled upon Andy's waiting for a friend. However I didn't know that they have 7 locations. The service was great I sat at the bar talking to one of the managers, and two servers (I forgot the names) but they were great! They gave me some history on the place and told me about their favorite pizzas there. They have a lot of deals throughout the day. So, the pizza was a solid 10. So flavor, thin crust like I like it and just enough mushrooms and cheese. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They open at 5:00 and close at 2:00am. I was told that it gets busy weekend nights. The inside and outside of the restaurant was clean too. I have been dreaming about this pizza! Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
The atmosphere is great, but the actual food is overrated. Crust is great, but it's really just normal pizza aside from that. Also way too greasy.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Now this was some pretty darn good pizza. Thin crust and a solid tomato sauce. Everything about the food was fresh and delicious, you can tell they use quality ingredients! Fun modern vibe and cool beer selection with friendly staff and a nice location. I will dream of this pizza.

Yelp
This place is very popular. I believe it is the dining environment which has loud music, pizza, and beer. When we arrived, it seemed like a shock to everyone in the place. We got the, "What are you all doing in here" look from the majority of the dining patrons, servers, etc...upon arrival. That didn't make us feel good, but we wanted to try the pizza. We waited about 10mins before a person was available in the "Carryout" area of the restaurant. They have outdoor dining with bar top picnic tables. There were a lot of people with their dogs enjoying their pizzas and drinks. Inside there are both standard height and bar top height dining tables. There is a great wine retail area and they have a special on Mondays, "Magnum Mondays". If you buy a Magnum sized bottle of wine, you get a free pizza on the house. We ordered a half pepperoni and half cheese from a very nice Hispanic woman behind the "carryout" counter. She gave us a plastic order number and we sat near the bar to wait. While waiting I used the restroom. The restroom was very clean and well maintained, awesome. After about 15 more minutes, our order was ready. We walked it back to our place, 3 blocks away, and opened the pizza box. It looked pretty tasty. There was a significant amount of oil from the pepperoni dripping off of the slices, but the flavor was great. The cheese side of the pizza was just okay. We will probably not return, but at least we were able to try it.

Yelp
Stopped in late night after a show at the 9:30 club. There was a pretty good line for pizza but I was able to sit at the bar and get a beer and some slices relatively quickly. The pizza is a classic NY style just how I like it. Thin crisp crust. Not too much cheese that you lose taste of the sauce and crust. I had a couple plain slices and a pepperoni slice for desert. If you like parm get the cheese if they offer it to you. It's a little plastic container of freshly grated parm which was an excellent addition to my pepperoni slice. Seemed to have plenty of seating and I have no idea how they keep up with the crowd. They must have a lot of ovens back there.

Yelp
The best NY style slice you will find in DC! I started ordering from Andy's when it was connected to the old Whitlow's as a walk up window during Covid. Now nestled across from the Atlantic Plumbing Complex (they have multiple locations too), it is a large dining space that has both casual and fast service but equally great food and cocktails. My favorite pizzas are the Burrata Margarita and The Carnivore. The go-to sides are their brussels sprouts and chicken tenders. It is great for both dining in, carry out and delivery. It continues to be one of my favorite spots after eating a lot of pizza in DC over the several years.

Yelp
Pizza: 10/10 Service: 12/10 Ambiance: 10/10 We came to this place on a whim after our original plans didn't follow through. But this place was a great choice! The bartender was very friendly and funny! Plus the pizza and the food was good. We started off with the old bay fries. Which was surprisingly good. Sometimes with old bay it can be too salty if you add too much. But these had enough to get the old bay flavor but not too much to make them inedible. I got two slices mushroom and onion & the pepperoni special. Both were very good slices, some of the best pizza I've had in dc. Out of the two my favorite was the pepperoni house special. It was a balance of sweet (from the hot honey), salty (pepperoni), creamy (burrata) and fresh herby (from the basil). My only regret was not ordering another slice to-go haha.
google avatar

Billy V.

Yelp
Came here after clubbing at 801 down the block. The pizza constantly comes out fresh. Even if not they still run it through a heater. You have the option to add a few different types of sauces at the end. No ranch unfortunately (shockingly) It's around $5 per slice depending on the type you get. A whole pie cost maybe $28 and takes time to make so order ahead if you decide to get a whole za. The workers are nice too. Homie hooked me up with the biggest slices without me asking. Outside you will find pepper flakes and oregano on the tables. There's also seating inside. Highly recommend this place sober or drunk.
google avatar

Singi D.

Yelp
Very relaxed area, loved both the inside and outdoor space which also has an awesome mural. I found it very convenient to grab a slice before heading in to the 9:30 club, which I frequent. The bar inside is really nice too. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Love the pizza juju is the best!! I come here all the time and it's always quick and good service
google avatar

Noah R.

Yelp
Met someone for drinks. I love that you can walk over to the other side of the bar, order a slice and it's given to you within seconds. Pizza was great! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Andy's pizza is pretty much my favourite pizza spot in the DMV Yuuuu-uuuumm-mmmyyy!!! They have a great range of options for toppings, and their pizzas are available by the slice - and of course you can order entire pies. What's also great is they have several branches all around the DMV area, so you will never be too far away from one. So far I've been to two - and this one, I must say is my fav. Super close to the 9:30 Club and U Street Corridor... Which makes it a great place to grab a drink and a slice (or slices ) of pizza before you start a great night out. The staff at this location are also super friendly, which makes the entire visit all that much better!!
google avatar

Susanne B.

Yelp
Ordered a whole cheese pie and it was re-heated!!! Sooo disappointed .. thought orders for a whole pie would have been made from scratch!!

Jared L.

Yelp
The pizza is amazing here, very crispy and generous sized slices. Not too heavy but very flavorful. My favorites are the Pepperoni Special, white pizza, chicken buffalo, but you can't go wrong with anything here. The ambiance at the Shaw location is great, there's a large patio as well as indoor area with counter space and booths. They sell beer to go/for there, and the sitting area is actually a great place to grab a drink with friends beyond the pizza itself. The beer selection and wine selection is very large and quite affordable. Overall, great place to get a slice for dinner, quick bite before going out/ a show, or late night since they're open to 2am on the weekends
google avatar

Nisha B.

Yelp
Walking to my car and saw this place. Figured I should get some food for the ride home. Walked in and choose a slice for the type of pizza I wanted. They put it in an oven. The pizza came out just warm. I got a canned soda. Total came to about $6. Sliced pizza was not jumbo by any means.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing pizza:) Super tasty and cooked great:) Reminds me of my childhood pizza place in California that has won numerous awards Pizza My heart:)
google avatar

Parth R.

Yelp
Solid crispy slices that have the integrity to stay upright, the right level of crunch, and wholesome toppings. I was impressed and will be back frequently as it is always hard to find good pizza in this godforsaken place.
google avatar

Bill L.

Yelp
This place is great. Full pizza or by the slice. Crust is thin and delicious and the toppings go great with whatever you are drinking. The staff is super friendly and will help you get anything you need. The place can get a bit crowded before concerts by often come by after a movie so I avoid most of the rush. It has these large outdoor tables that are covered from evening sun so you won't melt while eating a slice.

Eshaan H.

Yelp
Best pizza in dc! Quick service and pizza tasted very fresh. Crispy crust and great tasting sauce.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Food was good as was the fresh lemonade. However the pizza was okay, but nothing outstanding for the prices charged. $15 for 2 slices of pizza (1 pepperoni and 1 specialty) and a drink.

Dana W.

Yelp
The food and ambiance are amazing! A great neighborhood joint or place to take friends visiting from out of town- highly recommend!
google avatar

havana g.

Yelp
Food was good bartenders were rude. Good lunch prices and deals as well. Also have good canned beer options.

Yelp
Ordered 12 pizzas for a large party. Pizza was ready early, fresh, and a great hit! Loved the mushroom and onion.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Used them for a birthday party around the corner and they were super helpful and got us our order right on time!

Audra H.

Yelp
We ordered Andy's pizza and some wings for the first time last night after reading so many recommendations. Let's start with the pizza -- we ordered a pepperoni and sausage pie. AMAZING! I'm not from NYC, but the best pizza I have ever had was from NYC Andy's pizza reminded me exactly of that! It's as close to authentic as you'll get in DC! I really enjoyed how spicy the sausage was! Was not expecting that burst or flavor and spice but it was absolutely welcome! Definitely adding it to my top spots for pizza. Now.. the wings... HORRIBLE! We requested all drums and didn't get it, the wings were wayyy over cooked and had no flavor! You want good pizza then definitely come here. You want good wings go elsewhere! We are already thinking about getting another pie this weekend from Andy's but will definitely be skipping the wings!

Clara T.

Yelp
I love this location so much. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The Bartender Jeremy is very nice & professional as well. I highly recommend this location if you are in the U street area looking for some good pizza, ambiance, and drinks!
google avatar

Antoninette B.

Yelp
probably the best pizza/late night pizza in dc! this location is great since it's right across from the 9:30 club so it's perfect to stop by after a show. they sell by the slice (like $6/$7) or by the pie! they have this really great deal too, two jumbo slices and a beer for $12 i believe! all their toppings are great too and the crust is the best part! this location also has a huge beer/wine selection and plenty of seat both inside and outside. you order at the counter and the pizza comes out very quickly! it's a must go to spot while over on u street or after a show!
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! The pizza is actually at the top of the list for me. Definitely one of my favs! The customer service was legit as well...the bartender and the owner were very welcoming and accommodated our questions. The atmosphere and environment was very chill and relaxing. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in town! Oh and the wine was fantastic too Thanks guys for the hospitality!
google avatar

Sophia H.

Yelp
Pizza was pretty good, but we don't get the hype over this place... There are other places with equally good or better pizza. We had the white, Margherita, and garlic & onion pizza. Flavors were good, though the crust could be a bit softer (I like soft doughy crust!).

Hank M.

Yelp
Best place in town to grab a slice and a beer! Staff and atmosphere are fantastic. Highly recommend!

K T.

Yelp
Jeremy - excellent service, amazing espresso martini (possibly best in DC!!) and obviously great Andy's Pizza.

Sonnie M.

Yelp
Andy's is by far the best pizza in DC. The pepperoni special and the white pizza are the best!
google avatar

Jeffery S.

Yelp
Got a slice of the mushroom and onion while standing in line across the street to see The Darkness at 9:30. Super tasty. The crust is the star of the show--it's light, crispy on the bottom, and still just chewy enough. Great balance of cheese to toppings. We went back a couple weeks later and I got another slice of mushroom and onion and a slice of classic pepperoni. Honestly, the pepperoni was just okay--definitely not nearly as good as the mushroom. In fact, I didn't even finish the slice. The crust was good, but the pepperoni is a little thin and could use a bit more kick. Not bad, just not great. Service was terrific both times and we will definitely go back again. Next time, I think I'll try the Margherita.
google avatar

Brandon D.

Yelp
My family and I came for a graduation from all over the country and Jeremy treated us like family. Great service and a great vibe. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area .

Jess G.

Yelp
Rick the bouncer is an awesome dude. Super friendly and fun to talk to! Pizza is delish.

Renee F.

Yelp
Juju and Rafael were so nice and funny and provided excellent customer service. Highly recommend. Best pizza ever.

Sierra E.

Yelp
Andy's Pizza in Shaw! The hot honey pepperoni was recommended by Jeremy, they also have a phenomenal bartending team. I ordered guava margarita!
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
Based solely on reviews, we thought we'd give Andys a try and ordered the Margherita Pie and Pepperoni House Special. Please note we have tried Margherita style pizzas in multiple states from various restaurants. Order was quick over the phone with 20 min wait. The restaurant was as described in prior posts - festive place with loyal patronage. I came in by the carryout and picked up the order along with paper plates, parm cheese and chili flakes. We've had better and worse. The pepperoni did have grease puddling but we dabbed. Fresh basil and parm were okay. Overall, the pie's were a solid 4. Service a 5. Available/accessible parking a 4. We didn't dine in but the restaurant seemed to have a warm ambiance. Thanks Andy!
google avatar

Jose F.

Yelp
The pizza was pretty good prices are a bit steep, but it seems to be in a trendy area. Next time I would order a fresh pie, rather than order a slice not knowing how long it had been out. The service was exceptional. The staff was friendly and eager to be at work. The ambiance is friendly and a cool place to hangout.
