San Francisco’s Andytown Coffee Opens Downtown Cafe at 181 Fremont - Eater SF

"Andytown’s new downtown cafe at 181 Fremont offers a hidden, speakeasy-like experience due to the current inaccessibility of the Salesforce Transit Center. The cafe is on the 7th floor and offers coffee, espresso drinks, and Irish-inspired baked goods. The location also features a sizable kitchen where the chef is testing new recipes. The cafe is open Monday to Friday, with plans for extended hours and a full food menu upon the Transit Center's reopening." - Caleb Pershan

I was pleasantly surprised! I thought it might be too ‘fancy’ or pricey for me but that wasn’t the case at all. $5 for a very tasty and wonderfully presented hot chocolate isn’t bad in my opinion. I love how the drink looks, and the taste is rich. It’s a tad too tart in my opinion, but it’s still yummy. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the views within 181 Fremont. Overall, 4/5.

Google
My current favorite coffee shop in all of the Bay Area. Their Matcha Plover is my favorite matcha drink in the city. Their Bird is also very nice. I live in the neighborhood so coming up to this 7th floor location and taking my drink to the park is always a chill experience.

Google
Absolutely gorgeous retreat above the streets on the same level as Salesforce Park. If you enter through the building, take the elevator to the 7th floor. The coffee is great!! You can expect a long line in the morning. They have some corn based muffins that looked great! Plenty of seating inside too.

Jill Dalemar

Google
Our coffees were fantastic and a little different than the usuall coffee places. The lady at the register was pretty friendly. Nice open clean place to grab a coffee to stroll through Salesforce Park.

Google
Great place to study or hangout with friends. I loved the matcha tea, it’s a must if you are a matcha lover. A little noisy, but overall not too noisy to not study. Workers were nice too.

I always come here for the snowy plover or matcha plover. It’s like an iced latte, but with sparkling water. The wait can be long in morning when everyone’s trying to get their caffeine fix. The location itself is really clean and modern looking. It’s inside the same building as Instagram. Plenty of seating if you wanna work or have a coffee meeting. Bathrooms are really clean too.

Claire Choe

Google
While this may not be the best coffee in town, the price and location is great. It is located next to salesforce park. The 8 oz coffee is $3. This place does seem quite busy. Getting a table may depend on luck during busy hours.

Google
It’s a nice hidden spot within one of the salesforce buildings. If you are on the ground, you can either access it from the salesforce park - It’s directly connected to the salesforce park with lots of greeneries. Or you can take the elevator once you enter from the 181 fremont building. Very nice and peaceful place to take a work meeting or take a coffee break. Coffee is ok but not bad. But definitely go for the environment.

Yelp
When I'm in San Francisco for work I'm downtown near Salesforce Park, and I'm always on the hunt for a great local coffee shop to support. This past visit I discovered Andytown and I think I'll make this place a regular stop for me when I'm working in SF in the future. The first thing you'll notice once you find this place is that it's located in Salesforce Park, which is already a win. If you haven't been to Salesforce Park yet you're missing out as it's an urban oasis and perfect for taking a break and stretching your legs while working in an office nearby. I love that they thoughtfully put a local option in instead of partnering with a mega brand as I'm sure they could have. On the day I arrived I unfortunately didn't have time to explore the park, but only really had the time to snag a coffee to go and take back to work with me. The first thing I noticed when I got there was the line - holy how this is a popular spot. That's always a good sign IMO, but I was a tad nervous as I was on a time crunch. I will say it wasn't FAST since it's a craft coffee spot, but it moved fast enough, and I decided it was worth the risk of being a few minutes late. What I was most excited about was their signature drink - the snowy plover. I've been on an espresso tonic kick lately and while this is more of an espresso cream soda, it definitely piqued my interest and I lowkey love it when a local brand does something a bit off the beaten path with coffee. Once I got mine I loved it. It was not only presented in a beautiful way for a take out beverage, but it was honestly delicious. My go-to tonic of course uses tonic water and I like a lil citrus, so this was a departure and while not something I'm itching to have every day I will order it again when I'm back in SF. Next time I'll probably plan in some time to walk the park while enjoying it as well.

Yelp
Cool spot at Salesforce park! We came during the midday rush, and there was a long line of folks needing an afternoon pick-me-up. Despite the long line, it moved fairly quickly considering they only had a few employees and drinks were made to order. I decided to use this opportunity to order a coffee tonic, since it's one of Andytown's specialties! The snowy plover is two shots of espresso and brown sugar syrup poured over sparkling water and then topped with homemade whipped cream. In theory, all things I love! But it was in this moment I learned coffee tonics just aren't for me. The tonic + coffee ended up being too much bitterness for me, without enough sweet and creaminess to cut it. Although it wasn't my favorite, my friends who enjoy these drinks really loved it, so that's how I know it's the real deal!

Yelp
My first coffee-tonic experience! Or at least I think that's what it's called. Can you tell I'm from out of town? I was visiting for a work conference, and anytime I'm in San Fran I'm looking for new places to try! Our office is right near Salesforce Park, and this local goodie was conveniently located right there. The shop is quite big and roomy, with plenty of seating. Many folks were posted up with the laptops working, which seems like a great spot to do so. The line was long as could be when we arrived! The small barista team was crushing it though, churning out drinks quick. Being from the midwest, where coffee-tonics haven't hit yet, I figured I had to try one! My co-workers all had good things to say about them, too. I went with the Snow Plover since it's coined as the signature beverage here. This 16oz drink has sparkling water over ice, espresso, brown sugar syrup, and Andy's homemade whipped cream. I must say, the fizzy aspect was quite interesting. Certainly not bad, but also not necessarily great? I feel like I could take it or leave it. The overall flavor of the drink was delightful though, and damn that whipped cream... I can see why everyone loves that here. Definitely rec this spot for locals and tourists alike. I'd return to try more drinks on my next trip to town.

Yelp
Great coffee and pastry options! Good amount of seating and tables for anyone who wants to do some work. Access to Salesforce park
google avatar

Ria B.

Yelp
The area inside is a little corporate-core haha but it's clean and nice, just not as cute as a coffee shop but they have plenty of locations! Baristas were nice and prompt, I got my drink pretty fast. The plover was so unique, I'm a big fan of water based matchas but this also had the cream on top to make it as creamy as you want slowly. The carbonation is nice too, almost root beer flat esque. And the matcha flavor is great, u can slowly add and mix as much cream as u want and slowly it becomes a cold foam drink on top.

Yelp
Bravo to the Andytown team for steadily working through a massive line during our visit. I feel as if this is typically the case for the location, and I was impressed with how quickly they worked through it! I'm pretty basic when it comes to coffee- iced lattes are my jam. I usually do a sugar free syrup, and Andytown doesn't carry those. Totally fine- that happens often! I don't think they had a huge selection of syrups in general. I can appreciate that as it's their branding- I do wish they had more though! Personal preference :) Coffee was good and exactly what we needed before heading back to the office!
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
Neat coffee spot in Salesforce Park! This Andytown location is very spacious and there's quite a bit of seating inside so it's a great spot for a coffee hangout or a study spot! We ordered the matcha latte, both hot and cold, as well as the breakfast sandwich! I wish I took a picture of the breakfast sandwich because it was so delish! The egg was a bit runny for my liking but I can see the appeal for those who love a runny egg/ yolk! Service was fast and staff members were super friendly! Definitely recommend stopping by for a coffee/ matcha run!
google avatar

Wendy Z.

Yelp
Below mid. The fizzy coffee thing tasted like caffeinated confusion, cuz idk why you'd make this mixture Also the cashier was pretty impatient cuz I was debating whether I wanted to pay 8 bucks for this ambiguous tasting soda water Nice location tho
google avatar

Joy Z.

Yelp
The breakfast sando is one of the most indulgent and delicious sandwiches I've had and I usually don't like ham or bacon. The original bird is very interesting and the whipped cream is a nice touch but I'm more used to the traditional coffee texture. I'd love to come back to try other coffee and matcha drinks. The cafe has plenty of space indoors and outdoors, good for a cafe working sesh. The line is long and there's a wait but service was friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
"Secret menu" item: Sourdough grilled cheese with soft egg and hot sauce. Photos speak louder than words therefore I am attaching my photos from today.

Yelp
Amazing coffee next to/in an amazing park in downtown SF. Take the elevator or escalator up to the park level in the Transbay Terminal and you'll spot it through some glass double doors around the edge of the park. Be wary of the morning rush on weekdays! I recommend coming during other hours when it's quieter: great for catching up with a coworker in the afternoon or as a get-away spot in downtown as the crowd is mostly non-existent after 10am or so and service is quick. They always have some special, but I typically get the always-present The Original Bird (one of their Snowy Plover coffees). It's fantastic as a soda/espresso/cream mix and what I pitch to anyone I take here. There's seating inside, but definitely hit up the beautiful park nearby.

Yelp
Came to Andytown on a Thursday mid-morning. First of all, location is beautiful and staff are amazing. The bad is this location gets BUSY. You'll know immediately if you came at the wrong time lol. I waited over 20 min in one of the longest coffee lines I've experienced on a weekday... But - it's Andytown - it's worth the wait. This location definitely draws the tech crowd and they all seem to take a coffee break around 10 am lol. So plan accordingly. Anyway on to all the positives. Ordered the birthday latte (their March anniversary special); Considering the amount of people in line before me, once I ordered the wait for coffee itself wasn't too long. Staff definitely hustles to keep the line moving and coffee coming! The birthday latte / plover is only around for the month of March so order soon! A portion of sales of this drink also go to the Transgender Law Center which is so amazing given the political climate and attacks on human rights under the current admin (sorry Yelp, had to get a tiny bit political). It's on the sweet side, which I'm a sucker for! Always get it with the whip and sprinkles. As mentioned, the location is beautiful in Salesforce Park. Seating is available throughout the cafe as well as the park itself. It's such a great spot you'll immediately get over the wait time as you stroll through nature with your delicious coffee... Love you, Andytown!

Yelp
Really good coffee! I got a cappuccino with whole milk and a friend got the snowy bird (?). Shop is located in the 7th floor of the building and it overlooks salesforce park. It was raining when we went so we sat inside. Service was quick and efficient.
google avatar

Shalini P.

Yelp
The cafe is very spacious with a lot of seating, outlets, and free wifi. I ordered a matcha latte and it was very bad. There was no matcha flavour and it was not sweet. It left a bad aftertaste too.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Came here during a small excursion during a coffee run! My higher up who took me here definitely knows the spots! It was such a cute cafe, spacious, away from everything, and was next to SalesForce Park! Service was fast albeit the workers looked super tired! Drink was great -- got the matcha latte!
google avatar

Diana G.

Yelp
Great place to stop for espresso and the Salesforce park makes it for a beautiful experience. Recommended item: I recommend the latte here. It's coffee forward, but still creamy and smooth. Service: Once ordered, drinks come out quickly. Ambiance: There is lounge seating for folx who would like to have coffee chats as well as plenty of tables to sit and work at. Its proximity to salesforce park makes this spot unique.
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
A very nice spot located in salesforce park, it's usually quite busy on weekday mornings, but it's a spacious coffee shop and there's always seating around salesforce park as well. The minty mochas were their special holiday drinks, and each one was super cute and tasty. They made our order quite quickly despite there being many people at the shop as well.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Read other reviews here before you go. I spent so long pacing back and forth until a security guard was nice enough to ask me what I'm looking for and directed me to the elevator inside a building to go up the elevator to this coffee shop. Long line around 1pm on a Saturday. The taste was okay for my brown sugar latte, not strong enough imo. Nothing special.
google avatar

Elena C.

Yelp
Located on 7th floor. I got the matcha plover from the raving reviews. It is not my preferred drink but I can understand how it can grow on people, glad I got to try it. I really enjoyed the homemade whipped cream. Plentiful indoor and some outdoor seating with free wifi, though some of the seating is not very ergonomic for long study periods. One suggestion would be to add power strips under the benches since outlets are sparse in some areas. Great ambiance and service as well. I would definitely come back here and try something new!
google avatar

Anchal A.

Yelp
Can confirm the minty mocha lives up to all the social media hype! I got the iced version, which comes with their homemade whipped cream and a mini candy cane on top, and it was delicious. The peppermint flavor is apparent yet not overpowering and complements the drink very well. The whipped cream is so tasty and mixes into the drink making it even creamier. And I thought the candy cane was just an aesthetic touch, but it also melts right into the drink. Bit tough to find this place so I'd recommend looking up the location on Andytown's website. I went into 181 Fremont and took the elevator up. I was only here for a half hour, but there were a good amount of people chatting and working on their laptops. It's a big space with good seating and access to salesforce park! Will be back soon :)
google avatar

Alejandra Q.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the ambience and service at Andytown. I've been wanting to check it out for quite sometime now and finally had the chance to. I was going to simply order an ice vanilla latte but wanted to try their specialty. I was a bit hesitant because of the soda water but ordered the original bird. I also ordered their breakfast Sando. I truly did enjoyed my drink and would definitely recommend! The breakfast sando was ok. It tasted more like a grilled cheese sandwich, it was not giving breakfast-y to me, more lunch vibe.
google avatar

Shivangi K.

Yelp
The minty mocha is happiness in a cup! I got curious after seeing so many videos about it and I can confirm the hype is real! The drink alone is wonderful -- the peppermint does not overpower the chocolate & espresso in the drink. It provides a delicious sweetness that makes it the perfect holiday drink. The signature whipped cream on top adds creaminess to the drink and isn't too sweet by itself. I got my drink iced and would highly recommend! One thing to note, the drink is a little pricey at $7.50. I STILL think it's worth it -- no regrets and no notes on my end. Simply divine. If you're having trouble finding this location, go to the 181 Fremont building lobby and take the elevator to the 7th floor :) There's signs as well to help!
google avatar

Neha D.

Yelp
Minty mocha is delicious when available. The matcha plover is interesting - I might like it better without the whipped cream. This location has access to Salesforce park
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
My go to's are the breakie sandwich and Matcha Plover. Once I had changed it up and ordered the Snow Bird Plover--big mistake. Stick with the Matcha Plover! Breakie sandwich has bacon and oozing egg. That's all.
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
So good! It's a bit hard to find but it's in the middle of Salesforce Park! I went on a Thursday morning around 9:30AM and waited for around 25 minutes. There's lots of seating and outlets and a perfect place to do some work. Also great if you want to get coffee and walk around the park. I got the latte sweetened with their free whip and it's just as good as the ocean beach location! Love that their drinks are consistent. Andytown's latte is probably my favorite in sf.
google avatar

Kerwin L.

Yelp
Their Matcha Plover is my favorite matcha drink in the city right now. This location is great especially on a warm day.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
I love the ambiance and service at Andytown! This location gets a pretty long lineage in the morning and lunchtime on weekdays, but is much quieter on the weekends since less folks are working in FiDi. The inside of the cafe is beautiful and has lots of seating options. If you want to sit for a long time on a weekday, I would come in the morning when less people are sitting. I got a matcha plover here and it was delicious!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
First time we ever went to an Andytown and we were impressed. After touring the Transit Center park we needed a refreshment and this site was a welcome respite. Open and comfortable seating, courteous staff and delicious espresso drinks.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
Good customer service but I personally do not like the specialty drink everyone raves about here. Their coffee and matcha is very good quality however I do not like the mix of it with soda water or carbonation - throws me off. Cool to try but would probably stick to regular lattes next time. Cafe is pretty large, inside of the building. You have to go up stairs to access the coffee shop! Nice windows, good for casual drinks.
google avatar

Reina L.

Yelp
My friends have been recommending Andytown for the longest time and I finally got to try it. This Andytown is a little hard to find - it's on the 7th floor in the building but it's nice and spacious! I ordered the Matcha Latte and Mocha, both with oat milk and both were good. The Matcha Latte didn't taste as strong as I've had at other places that specialize in matcha, but that was expected! I appreciated that alternative milks didn't cost extra and I definitely want to try one of the plovers the next time I come back!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
I came here for a coffee before attending an event nearby. Since we had our dog and couldn't go through Salesforce Park, we tried to find an entrance through the building. The front desk or security person was very helpful and pointed us to the right elevator. Inside, the space was nice and clean, with a setup that seemed good for doing some work. They also had some merch on the side. I ordered the Original Bird, which, as the menu suggests, is pretty similar to a cream soda. It took a bit of getting used to, as it had the bitterness of coffee instead of the usual sweetness of soda, but it had a nice mouthfeel overall. It was a nice refreshing coffee that would be pretty good for a hot day. This place seems like a great spot for coffee and to try out some unique concoctions.
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
Andytown's signature beverage, the Snowy Plover, consists of sparkling water over ice, espresso, brown sugar syrup, and their house-made whipped cream. It's difficult to describe, and even as I attempt to describe it now, it won't taste like my words portray. It's like a carbonated Starbucks Frappuccino, but less milky, and more creamy. It has a vague semblance of a root beer float, but with the roasted espresso bean quality. It might be a coffee aficionado's final act before seppuku or it might be a tech bro's go-to in the Salesforce office garden. Or maybe it can still be both. I'm still not quite sure. I personally hate them, but my wife loves them. So as an homage to my wife, we will split the middle on the review. This particular Andytown location is located right by the security desk and turnstiles upstairs in the Salesforce garden. You're not going to find it on your own, so just ask a security guard for guidance. And when you are lost again, ask another one for more help. The wait is long.
google avatar

Yelp
Got to get the breakfast cereal cookie. Moist sweet and crunchy goodness to pair with the coffee. They made a very nice flat white--which is not too often found. It's on the 7th floor so you have to find the elevator that goes up there--it's past the desk... if you get lost, just ask!
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Got the matcha plover which is a very interesting combination of matcha, soda water, and whipped cream. Not sure how I feel about it, but the matcha tasted really high quality at least! It's on the same level as salesforce park, so perfect for getting a drink to sip on while walking in the park. Service was super fast and the inside is quite roomy, with tables to sit at if you want to work inside.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
They are located in Saleforce park. It's a nice little retreat while strolling the park. It's very large inside but not a lot of seating. There are couches and a few tables around the edges of the space. But there's a whole empty space in the middle. Besides their coffee, there is merchandise on sales, and a few pastries. Overall, their coffee is really good.
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
There are a few pillars of essential, modern, and beloved San Francisco coffee roasters and Andytown is without a doubt one of them. While they're mostly known for their Sunset locations that are a stone's throw away from the often overcast and vibey Ocean beach, this sleekly designed and friendly-staffed shop at 181 Fremont should not be missed. I'm a straight shooter when it comes to coffee and will usually opt for an espresso and/or black drip, which they do well here, but for those who like a bit more frills with their quality cup there's plenty of that here, too. The bubbly sweet Snowy Plover is iconic, the breakfast crunch cookies are ooey gooey immaculate, and their sourdough, which is exclusive to only this location, is some of the best you will ever have. I love that the muffins are corn-based and my favorite is the cheddar jalapeño, which eats like one of the best indulgent slices of fresh corn bread you'll find at a coffee-focused business. Come for the great coffee, stay for the beautiful smell of buttery griddled bread, listen to the tasteful tunes coming from the speakers, and end your visit with a loop around Salesforce park. Excellent.
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwich was really yummy and we could see it getting made which was fun. They ran out of bacon so were offering extra egg/ham, which was nice. Mocha had a good balance of coffee and chocolate, and of course their whipped cream is delicious!! $6.50 for a 8 oz drink is a little steep, but what can you expect for SF? Location is on the 7th floor of a corporate building/connected to Salesforce park, so it's nice to walk around after you get your drink!
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
the original bird is yummy and the seasonal drinks are always fun! I usually take the elevator up from the building lobby on fremont but you can also entire directly from salesforce park. it can get really crowded at certain times of the day but the line moves fast and the service is always great. there are tons of tables inside to sit and work at as well.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great food! And good coffee too! The service is great and the ambience too. Very spacious to dine in. It's a good coffee shop. I like the piping plover aesthetic that this shop has as its identity. Those birds are nice.
google avatar

Christal M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this coffee shop while taking a walk around Salesforce Park (which I also highly recommend doing). It's very spacious inside with lots of places to sit and do some work or catch up with a friend. It was pretty quiet on a weekday afternoon and since there was no line, we got our drinks quickly. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but they had an interesting matcha drink that caught my attention called the Matcha Plover ($6.50). It's an iced matcha with brown sugar syrup and soda water that's topped with homemade whipped cream. It was very unique and refreshing. Their whipped cream is also delicious. They also have a coffee version of this drink that my sister enjoyed. I had never heard of Andytown before but apparently it's a chain up here. I will definitely look for it again the next time I need a pick me up.
google avatar

Corina D.

Yelp
I first came here when I was visiting Salesforce Park for a German Stammtisch meetup. I got the chai latte and a corn fruit muffin. The chai latte was decent, but the corn muffin was amazing and a good value for the portion size. I kept thinking about it and knew I wanted to return. I came again early on a Saturday morning before meeting up with friends at the farmers market at the Ferry building. I got a matcha latte and pumpkin chocolate scone this time around. The matcha is alright; it kind of reminds me of Starbucks matcha. The scone was too doughy, however, and I'd have preferred it to be more firm. Next time I'll stick with the corn muffin which I know is good.

RJ D.

Yelp
Hello, welcome to my review! This is a cool Andytown with a nice Salesforce park walking area and good views. Don't forge the whipped top on your coffee. Sometimes the line gets long due to corporate jobs. Thank you!
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Fresh peppermint tea $4.25 was refreshing. Difficult to drink a bit cause the leaves will come up when you sip. Music louder on one side of the room. Free Wi-Fi. Different types of seats: couch, low tables, high tables

Freedy H.

Yelp
I tried their signature drink called the Original Bird. Have you ever had a drink that you just couldn't take one more sip of because your stomach was going to reject it? Well that happened to me today. I'm not sure if the drink was bad or the cream that they put on top was bad. Either way I couldn't drink it. I wanted to return it, but the line was too long.
google avatar

Abby F.

Yelp
Amazing matcha!! Enter through the building and get off at the 7th floor. Perfect place to bring your laptop and get work done. I went 2x in 2 days. There was a line both times but it moves. The staff was super nice. I ordered a matcha latte with whipped cream. One with nonfat milk and one with whole milk. I liked the whole milk one better. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Audrey L.

Yelp
I love the Snowy Plover, the flavor is unique and with the perfect amount of sweetness. This location has a great ambiance and ample seating. The service was prompt and friendly.

Yelp
Always on the lookout for a good cup of coffee near the office, I decided to check out Andytown next to Salesforce Park. Accessible to the public and conveniently located adjacent to the offices surrounding the park, Andytown had a long line to order when I stopped by during one of my lunch breaks. The line moved slowly since each drink was made one-at-a-time, and there were several large groups ahead of me in line. I ordered a cafe au lait, which was smooth, creamy, and had a surprisingly strong kick of caffeine. I was also tempted to try one of their "Plovers," which come with cream soda and whipped cream, but I'll have to order one on my next visit when I have more time for a coffee break. There's some seating available inside (good for working and people watching), but on a nice day, it's a lovely experience to enjoy your coffee outside in the park.

Yelp
After a few visits to Andytown in the Outer Richmond and here at Salesforce Park over the last year and a half, I finally branched out and ordered the signature special Snowy Plover. This drink is not your everyday coffee order--fizzy and with fresh whipped cream to boot--but when you have the extra time to savor it and the stomach to absorb the bubbles, go for it--you won't be disappointed. It's more of a warm weather drink, but the regular coffee is outstanding too, so not a bad order for the rest of the year. The other thing I've had here that's really unique is the breakfast cookie...chocolate chips with cornflakes and marshmallows. Crunchy on the outside, chewy and gooey on the inside all at once. Looking forward to trying the Matcha Plover in the spring.

Yelp
Used to frequent Andytown when I lived in the city in 5 years ago, and went back for the first time in a long time last month. Some things never change, including my love for the snowy plover! Still as good as I remember it. Andytown will always be my go-to coffee spot in the city! Service was great and it's attached to a public space, which is nice if you want to walk around.
