Anejo Cantina and Grill

Automatic 18% gratuity for 4 people, is this standard? I’m posting this review mainly to understand if this is a standard policy or something unique to our experience. We came in as a group of four and noticed that an automatic 18% gratuity was already added to our check. I was surprised, as this is usually reserved for larger parties. To be clear, we did not question it at the time because we were already planning to leave 20%. However, once we saw that 18% was automatically added, we simply left it as is. If the restaurant prefers to set the gratuity at 18%, then we respected that and did not add anything further. I’m an Asian restaurant owner myself and fully support tipping, I always leave 20% and planned to do so here as well. That said, being automatically charged gratuity for a table of four felt unusual and raised questions for me. I honestly want to ask other diners: has this happened to you too when dining with four people here? Service-wise, it was ok, not bad, but not particularly friendly or welcoming from the host or server. Again, nothing negative enough to complain about, just very average. Food and drinks were good, but the lack of clarity around the gratuity policy made the experience less comfortable. Clear communication would go a long way.

Great portions for the price point. Went during Happy Hour, before the Mariachi went live. Had the Tempura Shrimp (HH) and Ceviche (not part of HH specials) and we shared the Ribeye plate. Very generous wine pours and food servings. Would like to return to enjoy the live entertainment next time. If your in the area, definitely worth checking out.

We had such a great experience! The fajitas were sizzling hot and full of flavor, perfectly grilled steak with fresh peppers and onions. The scallops were seared beautifully, tender inside, and paired so well with the fresh vegetables. And of course, the Cadillac margaritas were spot on , smooth, balanced, and exactly what you’d hope for. Our server, T, was amazing , attentive, friendly, and made sure everything came out just right. Great food and even better service. Highly recommend! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We came in for happy hour! We waited at the front for a few minutes but the service was fast otherwise! We got happy hour margaritas - strawberry, peach, and mango. They all tasted great, but the peach had more of the fruit syrup at the bottom so it was really sweet. For food, we got the firecracker shrimp, beef nachos, and a salmon taco. Everything was really good! The nachos were big! The chips and salsa were also super tasty :)

Anejo Cantina is so cute. We love eating there, but this time we got it to go. It heated up perfectly. All of their food is great. We love combinations and their tacos and burritos are great. The meat they use is really good. The place is just so comfortable. It is never too loud. I would make a reservation for weekends. The wait time is never bad on week nights. Sometimes there is no wait at all. The prices are very fair for all the food you get. We also love the location. There are nice places to walk nearby. The service is just the best. We have never had an issue. We have ordered take away and we have eaten there a few times. The servers are nice and will get your order right the first time. So, go and have fun. I think they also deliver, but I am not sure.

It was a nice experience. We opted to sit outside and we're able to watch the sunset. Very pretty. The food was decent. They brought out chips and salsa first - the salsa is spicy! They offered us guacamole, and never brought it out so we had to remind them. By that time the food was coming out so we didn't really get to enjoy it much. We ordered a beef dish and a fish dish both of which were fine. Not so memorable but good enough. There are a few parking options. Please DO NOT park in the underground parking below the restaurant - the stairs up are so sketchy. Go to the parking by the CVS.

Michelle at Añejo Cantina and Grill is absolutely amazing! From the moment we walked in, she made us feel so welcome and taken care of. Her energy, kindness, and attention to detail made our dining experience unforgettable. She knew the menu inside and out, gave great recommendations, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. You can tell she truly cares about her guests and loves what she does. We’ll definitely be coming back—and asking for Michelle every time!

Being busy or in a Saturday night like our waitress said as excuses, it’s not acceptable ! We extremely disappointed and upset for the service we get on valentines night, our entire order was including soup and appetizers followed for the main plate with mash potatoes side, and beverage, we just got straight to the Main dish not even given silverware, we wait for the waiters for been around and ask for it but after while I have to stand up Look for other one and ask about, minutes later he show up saying sorry I am so bussy and you guys con in a Saturday night, we ask to cancel the appetizers and the extra side, and ask for the soda refill … but again it never came that we have to ask some one else for it,… just not acceptable no matter the day or time, management please organize better because we just one more customer but if you personnel it’s like this… I’m sure more than one will stop going to your place.

There's a parking structure for the restaurant as well which is great so I didn't have to struggle to find parking in Sherman oaks The restaurant is at the upstairs of the building and I was not expecting it to be super big and spacious. Ambiance is dimly lit and classy. Great for large groups. We ordered the ceviche and dynamite shrimp as starters then the Shrimp Plate($24), the fried snapper ($34), the chicken and steak fajitas ($32) and I had the shrimp burrito. I can only speak for the snapper and wet shrimp burrito that I tried and ordered but everything was flavorful, big portions, and well made but it didn't blow me away. Personally I would've chosen a taco stand over the restaurant for flavor and quality of food. The same shrimp is used in the seafood ceviche ($15), rock shrimp, ($15), shrimp plate, and my burrito($20). The shrimp was really well cooked but lacked quality it was basically frozen shrimp you probably can get big bags of at Walmart. The Rock shrimp came with 5 pieces and they were frozen shrimp which I wouldn't get again. The ceviche had scallop, shrimp, and heaps of avocado but lacked flavor . The red salsa was able to give it a much needed kick. The snapped however was really well cooked and tender. Definitely a healthier option compared to the burrito. The shrimp burrito was the size of my face with tons and tons of cheese inside and out. There was guac, pico and sour cream that I should've asked for on the side. I literally could not finish my burrito and took half to go. I feel like without the cheese the burrito wouldn't have been good. Overall it was good but nothing amazing. Everything was well made but there was really no flavor that stood out besides that.

Authentic Mexican food. Located in the second floor. Outdoor and indoor seating. Beautiful space. They actually have night live music. The service was outstanding The food was delicious

I'd been here twice, first with a group of four and second with a group of three. Both visits were first time for us but they both turned out to be amazing. First visit, we had nachos with nachos fiesta and salmon salad for started. We had the nachos with steak on top of freshly made tortilla chips, Monterey Jack cheese, refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. So much meat and toppings that we asked for more chips. The salmon salad made with spring mix greens, diced tomato, mango and red onion tossed in a creamy cilantro dressing was equally delicious. For entrees we had the steak/shrimp combo with rice and beans, carne asada with elite and fried onions, braised carnitas with rice and beans, and scallops on top of mashed potatoes. Everything was so good. We finished off our meal with ice cream. On our second visit, we also had steak/shrimp combo with rice and beans. For appetizer, we had shrimp/scallop ceviche and margarita. Anejo has a big space with private rooms for special events. They also have free parking in the back and basement. Service was excellent. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

First time trying this spot the other day to celebrate my aunt's birthday. My bf and I got here about 30 minutes early from the rest of the party so we sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink with some chips and salsa that they brought out immediately. The place was literally empty. Maybe one or two people outside and two other couples at the bar. It was shortly after 6pm on a Monday so maybe that's why. The rest of the party arrived so we moved over to the main dining area inside that seated our party of 9. We walked in at the same time as another large party that sat adjacent to us. For whatever reason, the drink orders came quick but the waitress, I believe her name is Keren from the receipt we got, she took a while to come back and take our food order.. we were patient until it took way too long in the end. We ordered our food and waited about an hour till our food arrived. Right before we got our food, the other large party had left, didn't even order any food, probably because of the long wait. Another smaller party came after us and got their food before us. I've read other reviews and the long wait times seems to be a reoccurring issue. When our food finally arrived, luckily mine, my mom's and my bf's tasted great but the rest of my family basically got burnt food and it was not edible whatsoever. My aunt who sat across me had the SALTIEST piece of meat that she was literally choking and they also gave her the wrong side, she got fries instead of mashed potatoes. We reached out to our waitress to exchange and replace some of their orders. We didn't want to wait any longer so they mostly took it to go. Sad how things turned out, not sure if we'll be back.. Went here for lunch with a friend and we had a blast! The ambiance is super cute especially the patio area where we sat. But the best part about this place is that they have happy hour from 12-6pm (on weekdays)! We ordered a couple of margaritas and shared the ceviche and fish tacos and everything we ordered were all so good! Our server Karen was very attentive and super nice and provided the best service! They also have live music on some nights, weekend brunch, a cute bar and dining area...what more can you ask for?! Highly recommend and can't wait to come back soon. Happy eating! Bonus tip: they have parking behind the restaurant. Be careful NOT to park in the lot next to it because it's private property and you will be ticketed.

I've been coming here for two years--it used to be our go-to spot for a cozy, elegant date night close to home. We loved sitting outdoors; the food was good, and the prices were fair. My usuals were the carne asada (9/10), Cadillac margarita (10/10), carnitas nachos (9/10), and burrito (7/10). Unfortunately, over the past year, prices have gone up while food quality and portions have gone down. Service also seems to depend on how "well off" you look. We waited 40 minutes after being seated just to have our order taken. Free Parking is located behind the restaurant, with additional parking in the underground garage. You have to walk up a flight of stairs to reach the restaurant.

I was so excited to try this place after seeing all the reviews but was so disappointed. I went during happy hour. First the drinks, the Margarita on the happy hour is only $5 but it tasted like sprite. So I had to order a skinny Margarita from the regular menu. It was just okay. I also ordered the steak fajita from the happy hour, chile relleno from the regular menu and the fried red snapper. The food was just okay. Everything was a little spicy though. We couldn't figure out what was causing the spice but the food had a kick to it. We sat outside which is a really nice area. But our server was not pleasant. I don't know if she was having a bad day but she had an attitude and just didn't want to be there. I am not sure if it was just a bad day but it was quite disappointed because I was excited to try this place.

Been on my watch list for sometime now. Service - 10/10 Food - 6/10 Drinks - 5/10 Location/Ambience - 5/10 First and foremost the service here was excellent, from the host to the server it was great. Food tasted bland nothing overly special, almost microwaveable Drinks were super watered down so that was disappointing Location is actually not bad but man everywhere around it from the parking lot all the way to the stairs that you take up going to the restaurant smelled like 20 guys just decided all to pee at the same spot Overall I'd probably rate it as a pricier El Torito

I sometimes try new things here but not sure why because the only thing that tastes the best is the shredded beef taco, rice, and beans. The baja fish taco wasn't bad but it gets soggy fast and they add too much slaw. The happy hour drinks are very weak and watered down. Overall, the shredded beef tacos with the cilantro sauce, rice, and beans will forever be a fav! Our service was great too.

All I'm going to say is that Mondays are all-day happy hour! Tacos are $3 each, and you can choose from carnitas, salmon, shrimp, braised beef, and Baja fish. My favorites are the salmon and braised beef! They also offer drinks for $4, including well drinks and margaritas. The margarita options are pomegranate, watermelon, peach, strawberry, lime, mango, and raspberry. We've tried them all, and they are all very sweet. I wouldn't recommend them if you don't like your alcohol too sweet. It's a nice restaurant with a bar and lounge area, and I believe they play live music and have dancing on the weekends. They also have regular table seating in the back. Both the bartender and waitress who have served us have always been super cool and attentive. They even remember our orders since we usually visit every Monday. They have two TVs that usually show games, but last time we were there, they couldn't get Monday night football. We spoke to one of the waiters, and he mentioned they should have it this coming season, so we'll be there. They also have TVs outside. Lastly, there is a small outside parking lot in the back with an additional parking garage below. Overall, the food is great, the drinks are good (though the margaritas are too sweet), and the all-day happy hour is amazing! You can leave full and faded for $20 (two margaritas and four tacos). Having no epxectations when walking into a restaurant is usually the best course of action. It allows one to be surprised at what is to come and Anejo Cantina & Grill has definitely surprised me. I did not expect to have such a wonderful experience when I was driving to this restaurant and now they have become a place that I want to return to often, especially for their happy hour specials. Anejo has a lovely patio that I thought would be loud being along Ventura but was still quiet and allowed for conversation. Being on the second floor also seems to welcome a slight breeze keeping it a tad cooler than outside in the sun which was a welcome discovery. Inside they have a lovely restaurant with a bar and lots of tables and booths. The wait staff both times we have visited were poliete and attentive. As for the food, phenomenal! Everything I've tried was delicious and, honestly, the portions might be TOO large. Both times I've visited I've gone home with at least half the meal to go cause it was so good I needed to finish it. The prices are also wonderful, especially the Happy Hour prices. When I ordered the steak burrito for $12 on the happy hour menu I didn't expect it to come out almost as large as my forearm. Not that I'm complaining at all. In fact because it was so massive I cut it in half for my friend and I to share in our leftovers. My favorite item might be the humble Esquitas. This street corn dish is just absolutely delicious. I honestly could just have this all day. The Open Face Quesadilla is another instance of not at all expecting an item to be quite so large. It was delicious though. The only item I've had that was lacking were the Asada fries, essentially the same as the steak nachos but just swap fries with the nachos. The Nachos are the superior version here. The fries tasted unseasoned, it didn't even seem like they had been tossed in salt after frying or baking. Just dumped onto a plate and then loaded with the usual toppings. Thankfully complimentary chips are plentiful so we made do by quickly swapping to using the chips for the delicious toppings on the asada fries. Overall a fantastic location with lovely patio seating and excellent food. I highly recommend.

Server Diego was very friendly and accommodating for our toddler. Ambience was great with live music and really good music! The food was amazing! Everything cooked and seasoned well!

Parking downstairs is sketchy, i parked on the street. Food was good, nothing CRAZY (chilaquiles) i got mine with steak. Again it was good :) just not something I'd order. But my bf got the omelet and it was fire! The hibiscus drink was fire too. Service was ok. Took us almost 15-20 mins to get our bill after finishing eating. Short staffed so i get it.

He was quick to serve us and give us advice on what to get. super attentive and his recommendations were good! the miches are super good n lemony like i like them. we ordered the steak enchiladas and the fajitas combo & it was sooo good. deff will be coming back!

It was my first time going to Anejo Cantina & Grill and wow wow wow talk about awesome! Our server Diego was very knowledgeable about the menu. He and the staff made us feel welcome and at home. We were there early(ish) on a Thursday night, so there was not music and people dancing - but it was still a great vibe and Diego gave us suggestions about when to come back. We thought we the food was amazing - I had the snapper which was great!! I am looking forward to going to Anejo again sometime!

The food was good, but it was served lukewarm. My wife and I shared a Mexican Caesar salad and the carne asada. The portions were large and had good flavor. The service was horrendous. Our server had significant problems understanding English. We had to ask four times (four different employees) for an additional plate to share our food. The server didn't check in once after taking our order until she asked if we wanted dessert. The patio seating was uncomfortable--the floor slants, bringing the table to my upper chest--and it was loud. For some reason, they chose to show horse racing on the TVs placed throughout the patio. Parking is free in the lot behind and under the building. There are many better Mexican restaurants in Sherman Oaks and Studio City.

There is no craving or ethnic style that can't be satisfied in the City of Angels. Holding the predominant spot is, logically, Mexican food encompassing all regions of the country south of the US border. With what feels like thousands of options; Mexican food in LA can be broken down into authentic and 'Americanized' varietals. Joining the list of Mexican offerings is Anejo Cantina & Bar in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles. How do es Anejo stack up? Anejo holds real estate on Ventura Boulevard near the Kester intersection on the second floor of a small shopping plaza. Inviting patrons with its circular outdoor patio area visible from the street; Anejo can't be missed. Free underground garage parking is also available. In terms of esthetics, Anejo is a prime choice whether on a date, a trendy group dinner or a casual family meal. Dim lighting, an airy layout, fully stocked bar and floral wall hangings ideal for those social media photos; Anejo is the conceptualization of what we are used to in Los Angeles (although, there was an odd constant turning on and off of lights while we were there).  Not to mention the lovely outdoor patio area. Anejo even has live music to liven up the place on select days of the week. Anejo's menu serves up the standard fare of Mexican appetizers, entrees, deserts and alcohol: empanadas, ceviche, tacos, fajitas, sea food, enchiladas, Chile Rellano, margaritas... you get the picture. However, it is obvious that Anejo caters to the middle-grade, average audience and is on the 'Americanized' side of things lacking any creative dishes of note. As my dining partner and I waited for our tableside chips and salsa; we each ordered a requisite Gold Margarita (peach and raspberry, respectively - $12). Both arrived sadly not hitting my months long desire for both: the salsa was too thin while my margarita didn't have a raspberry flavor and was weak in the alcohol ratio: bland. My dining partner's peach margarita was more to my liking but arrived separated as though it had been sitting out versus perfectly blended (separated to the point of stirring the straw not being a remedy). Further aggravating my dining partner was the complete absence of guacamole on the menu either a la carte with the dishes or for the chips. "NO GUACAMOLE?!" may be his new catch phrase. For starters, we ordered the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp (shrimp wrapped in Applewood bacon w/sweet chili aioli - $13) while my dining partner chose the Sizzling Veggie Fajita for his main course (seasoned peppers and onions served with rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, combo chicken, steak and shrimp - $20 +$12 for combo). After seeing the Taco Trio delivered to neighboring diners, I chose it myself (choice of tree tacos served over spring mix with steak, carnitas, and garlic shrimp - $20). Anejo excels in presentation as our appetizer and entrees were beautifully plated with fresh, bright ingredients in large serving sizes. But the taste? Rather disappointing. The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp was one-note in flavor with the bacon being much too crisp and overcooked for my liking and it was overly hot in temperature - to the point of it being difficult to eat. The aioli tickled my fancy, though! My taco trio was nicer on the eyes than on my belly. The Garlic Shrimp had no flavor with 'bland' obviously being the name of the game at Anejo. The carnita taco was slightly better and more braised in flavor with the steak being the best with a crema complimenting the beef. But overall, it was simply meh and I've had far superior tacos in LA. I enjoyed my dining partner's fajitas although it was equally just standard and nothing to write home about plus he was only served three tortillas which is not enough for the portion size. Anejo isn't terrible but it certainly isn't memorable, either. Our waitress was all smiles and got the job done but not much to shine through in standout behavior. Anejo is so mediocre that there honestly isn't much more to say in its description and I certainly don't understand the hype surrounding the restaurant that is spoken throughout the Valley. If you seek Americanized-Mexican food in an, admittedly, pleasant environment then Anejo is well-suited for your needs but if you want a more genuine Mexican meal that by all means, it can be skipped.

Atmosphere is great Decor is great Food taste great, when it's not cold. But damn, the service is horrible. It's not even busy and they're lagging it on everything. Took 15 - 20 minutes just to get a box for my food. We're celebrating a birthday too and the dessert has been "cooking" for about 30 minutes... Not sure why. I don't recommend this place to dine in. And it's funny because I've been here before no problem but order it to go, trust.

We had just gone to Robertson Archery...(fun!) AND my partner and I knew we'd need some food for the deltoids...archery is not easy! Anyway....Anejo is on the second floor, was pretty quiet and surprisingly empty for what became our ultimate experience. As we were walking up the host heard us talking about "afuera or adentro" she quickly became part of the convo. It was empty so we basically had our pick. I ordered the Mezcali and the Coco Azul!!!! The Mezcali is delicious and could have had it just like that untainted, the smokiness of the mezcal with the surprise of the cayenne....but I asked for simple syrup (I have a sweet tooth what can I say). The Coco Azul was ummm coconut heaven. Try it! Wish I had been a little less tipsy otherwise I would have also gotten the Hibiscus Coconut Margarita. You get the alcohol you pay for! My partner had the bottomless mimosas. For $18, damn that alone is worth the visit! But we came for food.... I had the Carne Asada. I ordered it medium to medium-well and came more well than medium but damn! It was perfect, i trusted the chef and ate it.... Amazing! The serrano chile asado that came with the dish was mmmmmm!!! And just the right spiciness! My partner had the Garlic Butter Scallops, they were a bit fishy, but with the grilled lemon provided were delicious along with the perfectly grilled and scrumptious veggies (broccolinni, carrots on the stem, zucchini). The mashed potatoes complemented the dish perfectly! Paul was our server and was exceptional. Came to ask if we were ok a perfect amount. Paul knew the menu well and had tasted all the dishes we asked about so could help us decide. Ohhhh! And dont get me started on the music....felt like I was day clubbing!!! Bad bunny, Carol G....etc. More to come.. We have not had dessert!!! - - Just ate postre!!! Deliciousness! The flan...mmmmmm The chocloate is just perfect not overwhelmingly sweet! The churros....like street ones or like Alameda Swapmeet... Just go! Eat well dance and be happy!!!

The food here was delicious! We ordered the shrimp enmoladas, shrimp tacos, rock shrimp, and garlic shrimp. Paul, our server was very kind and attentive. This was my mom's first time and she loved it. We sat in the patio outside with a beautiful view of the sunset. Their outdoor patio was lovely.

HORRIBLE MANAGER!!!!! First off for most, i was here with my family about 3yrs ago - service was awful and the food was alright but then yet we all got food poisoning. We have come back again this time to try it the 2nd time around, i was VERY DISAPPOINTED again. Service was HORRIBLE, after we were seated 25mins later after i and my husband brought their attention that no one have come and get our drinks or order at all. While calling their attention and asked to speak with the MANAGER to express our disappointment and HE SOUND SO bother when i ask expressing our complaints. HE WAS SO SARCASTIC VERY RUDE, HE WAS SO AGGRESSIVE that i was complaining of no one is attending to us the moment we sat down. If i was the owner i would have this manager take some anger management or some customer service class. My families WOULD NEVER COMEBACK TO THIS PLACE, not anymore.

Amazing food, service and great ambiance! We had the burrito, quesadilla and fajitas. Everything was amazing!

In this economy you have to appreciate a great happy hour. I was wowed by their happy hour. $3 super filling tacos , $4 flavored margaritas! yes please. it's also from 12-6 which is amazing! (all day on mondays) food is tasty and the drinks are strong, i will be back.

Food is okay overall. The Braised Barbacoa was decent, nothing that really stood out from it. The branzino was probably my fave, that particular one taste like they put a little bit of effort and time, the ceviche is typical. I get that they're busy, but the food felt like it was rushed. The last time I was here was three years ago during COVID, when they only had outdoor dining. Now, I'm finally back and got to experience everything the way it's meant to be. Was the food and drinks a little pricier? Yes. Was it still absolutely worth it? Definitely. We ordered the veggie fajitas, the garlic shrimp dish, and I had a blended strawberry margarita. I originally had my heart set on the pomegranate margarita I saw on the menu, but they were out -- so I went with the next best thing, and it didn't disappoint. The service was just okay, but honestly, I'd still come back for the food. It was that good.

Our family four went today and we would not go back. Food looks right but does not taste like Mexican food. The chips were not fresh and I am certain that they are serving Costco salsa with them. I ordered some green sauce and it is identical to Costco's. I finished my plate (carnitas) because I was hungry. Everyone else left more than half of their food on the plate. The tacos are made with inferior cuts of meat- maybe for gringos who are a few drinks in. Would not recommend but unfortunately I have to go back for a function. Ugh

I've been here a few times. The food and drinks are good but a bit pricey, and the service and flavors can be hit or miss. The best part is the ambiance. The last time, my friend and I had a secluded section, which was perfect for us. Overall, a nice spot for a cozy night out.

We had great service for our party of 8. Roberto was wonderful as was the rest of the staff. They truly appreciated us being there ordering lots of happy hour specials, including, delicious fruit (mango/strawberry/original margaritas. The happy hour dishes were really good, Loved my fajitas and the potato flauats looked amazing. It's a great place to meet friends and the patio is beautiful.

Had a terric dinner with friends at the Sherman Oaks location. Diego was our waiter... Top notch!!! Highly recommend this location.

Great atmosphere, lively music and lovely staff. Enjoyed our meal with friends. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food really good specially the carnitas. This was our second time here and we would definitely recommend it to anyone.
