Best Restaurants on Cape Cod, Massachusetts | Eater Boston

"Añejo, with locations in Falmouth and Hyannis, is a tequila bar and taqueria serving tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, and chimichangas, as well as a wide array of tequila and mezcal. Añejo is a great choice for lunch or dinner, and there are copious seating options at both locations, despite the no-reservations policy (there is, however, an online “wait list”). The Hyannis location has five indoor and outdoor seating areas, one of which is a patio under a historic weeping beech tree dating back to 1776. The original Falmouth location has tables on Main Street, perfect for sipping a cold drink, tucking into a plate of tacos, and enjoying people-watching during the summer months." - Anna Darrow

My boyfriend and I were so excited to try this restaurant as we had heard from many family and friends that it was delicious. We stumbled in on a warm Saturday afternoon with no reservation and were quickly seated at a high top near the bar. We were served by Charlie who helped walk us through the menu and give us his recommendations because we were way too indecisive to decide. The salsa and chips hit the table almost immediately as we sat down and my goodness were they delicious! We had at least two rounds of the chips and salsa and honestly may have even had a third. My boyfriend and I each had three drinks and they were handcrafted and delicious. Charlie checked it on us frequently and provided excellent service that we really appreciated. We absolutely loved the food here and can’t wait to come back. Thank you, Charlie and Anejo staff for creating such a nice memory for my boyfriend and I, thank you!

Wow! We had a great dinner at Anejo Mexican Bistro. We were immediately offered water, chips, and salsa upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and quite attentive. The puerco burrito was the BEST I've had. My daughter loved the fried pickles. This was a great experience!

Google
What a breath of fresh air. In a sea of restaurants charging $50 for local cod or $47 for five scallops, it was refreshing to find a place that serves great food and drinks, offers free chips and salsa, and is dog-friendly. No wonder they were packed well past 9:00 p.m. on a Friday. The service was outstanding—our server checked in often and kept our water glasses full. Honestly, they should be teaching the folks over at Water Street Kitchen how it’s done. 10/10!

Anejo was the best experience you could wish for, they are o attentive and fast with the service The food is so high quality and the drinks too A special applause and hats off for the hostess and the server Erin, they are so amazing and nice They made our whole experience so wonderful, I really hope you all get a chance to sit and enjoy this amazing restaurant

I had a great experience here! Unfortunately I didn’t get my waitress’ name but she was super sweet, attentive, and helpful. The atmosphere was really peaceful at night on the front patio with the fire heaters. Carne Asada was delicious, the portion was huge. I was only sad that I couldn’t finish it all right there!

Do not come here if your group is larger than four people. We were in town for a conference, 12 in the group. We called days before to see if they could accommodate a group of our size. We were told no problem, call us the day of two hours before, then 30 mins before you arrive; they do not take reservations. So, we did as instructed. We arrived and the name on the table was wrong. They acted like they had no idea what we were talking about. They told us it would be an hour wait. We thought "well thats odd, considering we did as you asked, but okay no problem." We put our name down again and went to a local bar down the street. We returned 45 minutes later and once again they claimed they had no idea what we were talking about. The hostess were very rude, one of them would smile while speaking to customers then roll her eyes as soon as they turned their backs. Finally we were sat after another 30 minutes of waiting. An hour and a half after arriving. The bus boys were very nice and talkative, our waitress was very sweet, but seemed overwhelmed. Food was delicious, salsa and chips were good, langosta was different but delicious. If you want something different try this dish. Tacos were good, shrimp fajitas were good. Food overall very yummy. Drinks left a lot to desire. The margaritas had either too much triple sec or were over poured with tequila. Drinks were not made equally. Two of our group members had stayed there at their bar and said the bartenders were very dismissive, would ignore them and acted like they were bothered with customers. A decent place but customer service needs work.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. It is always clean. Service and atmosphere is always excellent. Though loud inside. Drinks a great food is excellent.

Yelp
The hubs and I went out for a late lunch on Saturday and had lunch at Añejo on Main Street in Falmouth, MA. The place was super busy due to there being a celebration for Halloween on that day. It was busy, but not overly loud. Our server was prompt and offered us some chips and salsa to start while we waited (not long) for our drinks. For lunch I ordered a new menu item, Scallop and Bacon Tostada with black beans, lettuce, avocado, sweet chili and cilantro crema. Not being a huge fan of cilantro (I am one of those to whom cilantro can taste like soap) but this was pleasantly 'easy on the cilantro'. This was absolutely delicious. The flavors were banging around in my mouth so nicely. The sweet scallops, the smoky bacon, the sweet chili, the creamy vegetal avocado, the crunchy lettuce and tostada all made for a delightful lunch. I'd go here again just for that dish!

Yelp
Came again on a less busy day (Monday afternoon). We got a table outside pretty quickly. The food was just ok this time. Not as flavorful as the first time. Mocktails were still good. Service good - consistent with previous experience.

Yelp
Really solid experience here. Place was boomin when we arrived but we're still able to be seated promptly. Great energy and ambiance inside. The bartenders were having a blast. Our waitress was really nice and helpful with recommendations, etc. Complimentary chips and salsa were very good. Nice crunch on the chips - wish the salsa was a little bit spicier. The cucumber marg fixed that issue tho cause it is spicy!! But also refreshing at the same time. Huge glass too; great value. Birria quesadilla was a very good sized portion and flavorful. I had the street corn (off the cob) and it was very smoky and delicious. We shared mahi mahi tacos and they were a good size and good flavor (and I don't particularly enjoy fish). A little salty but the side of spicy pickles that was included with the plate helped balance it out and were really good! Overall, this place is fun, has a massive tequila selection, great drinks and great food. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
We had been here a few years back but this time we came for drinks only. Everyone had a great time. We had a few margaritas and beers. Their margaritas were the best. We also loved they had Modelo Negra on tap.

Yelp
Hi, I'm Firulais and I love margaritas, Añejos, and Kate the bartender. I highly recommend this establishment. Thank you

Yelp
My mom and I went here for dinner last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Unfortunately we were seated outside in an alley-like area with no heat lamp coverage and I forgot to bring a jacket so I was chilly. Our server was nice and pretty consistent. We got guac, fried sweet plantains, and a house salad to start. All were really great except the guac isn't made tableside anymore which is too bad. The sauce with the plantains was incredible! I got fried fish tacos and my mom got the red chicken enchiladas. We actually ate too many chips before our entrees so we couldn't finish them, but the fish tacos were SO GOOD! The fish was so fresh and was fried perfectly but there was a bit too much breading imo. We don't go to Añejo often, but whenever we do it's delicious!

Yelp
We have been waiting to try this Mexican restaurant but it's always packed! Today, for lunch we found out why. Wow! The service is top notch! The atmosphere is creative and relaxing. Plenty of room between tables. The menu is a pleasant surprise! Waaayyyy more than just thought they would have, including a brunch! I saw the French toast at the table next to me and thought, do I want lunch or brunch.... I went with lunch. The presentation of the food is second to none! You need to see the photos. There is very little wait before you eat. As soon as you sit, you get chips and salsa. Fresh and delicious. First drinks then she came for the order. BOOM the food came quick as we enjoyed the comfortable surroundings. I had a chimichanga and my wife had tacos! Fresh and delicious is the theme here. Very nice experience. Lastly, the menu does not tell you everything in the food, so ask if you have preferences. For example the chimichanga had onions and peppers in it. With all the ingredients listed, these were not. Over all great experience! Thank you for lunch!!!

Yelp
4 of us arrived at 3:45 on a beautiful Saturday and all the outdoor tables were taken, the indoor bar had all seats full, and we scored the last available table inside. SERVICE: Aaron was our server, he was pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu. FOOD: The complimentary chips were fresh and the salsa was excellent, had wonderful flavor and was not watery. The queso dip was a good portion, $13, enough for the 4 of us to share and was tasty and hot with a spicy oil on the top giving it some heat. The calamari was excellent and cooked perfectly. The pork in the enchilada was on the dry side in sections. Some of it was ok. The pork in the tacos was very dry. The Mahi Mahi in the tacos was overcooked and very salty. BAR: Looks like a cool place to sit and eat, and around 4:30 several seats opened up. Margarita menu is extensive. Decoy chard was an average pour, $12. ATMOSPHERE: Indoors is crazy loud. We had trouble hearing our server describe certain dishes as well as having conversations without shouting. If you can score a seat outside, I'd recommend that for a more pleasant dining experience. You can get yourself on a waiting list online, and there is a free parking lot nearby for a short walk to the restaurant.

Yelp
I had the cauliflower tacos and they were delicious! I appreciated gaming such a unique plant-based item on the menu. Staff was friendly, food came out quickly, and the place in general had a good vibe.

Yelp
This is the place to be in Falmouth! My friends and I were on a weekend trip and decided to stop by for lunch while walking around the downtown area. It was pretty busy, but we were able to grab an outdoor table. Just be warned, some tables don't have a ton of shade, but there's still a big indoor area as well. If you're coming in the summer, though, I think it's nice to dine outside. For the food, I was thrilled when they brought out complimentary chips and salsa because we were all hungry. I ordered the Mole, which was delicious. If you're a fan of spice, ask for some of their hot sauce on the side, which packs a punch! My friends also enjoyed their entreés and those who ordered margaritas loved them as well. I would totally come back if I'm ever in the area again!

Yelp
Food is amazing and drinks are great. Love the atmosphere and great date spot. However, I HATE any restaurant that has suggested tips STARTING at 20%. They go 20, 25, 30. Sorry worried in kitchens for 20 years. Pay your staff accordingly. The percent should never change from 15, 18, 20% and then you can go more for great service
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
Nice service, everyone we came in contact with was friendly and attentive. Tables were cleared quickly and everything was clean. The food was served timely and hot. Nice spices.

Yelp
Stopped here to crab a quick dinner. I got their chili verde and it was delicious. My friend got veggie burrito and she was satisfied.

Yelp
I absolutely loved our experience at Anejo and would recommend it to anyone! We stayed at a hotel about 15 min away so we called Anejo on our way out of the room to put our name on the waitlist. By the time we found parking and walked over, it was our turn to be seated! Our waitress was so kind and really quick! We placed drink orders and food orders right away. Our food came out before our drinks lol! Theyre SO fast! Our drinks came out minutes later and we dove in! The food was incredible. We got the fried fish tacos and chicken burrito. Everything was 10/10! It was a nice night out and we sat on the patio which had an amazing ambiance and great views of downtown Main St. Will be back every time I'm in Falmouth!

Yelp
Not bad for the Cape! Slightly overpowering with the chipotle mayo on the dishes but it was a fun Cape cod take on Mexican. Busy spot and a great ambiance on an incredible street! Great for large or small groups

Yelp
(Last visited 5/5/2022.) Up for the week vacationing in Cape Cod, specifically Falmouth and it's dinnertime! Right on the main strip in downtown Falmouth on Main Street is this gem. The first time we walked by it there was a GANG of folks outside enjoying themselves and a completely full restaurant inside! We couldn't even get a table the first time we tried so we made sure to spin the block later on in the week to try this place out! Atmosphere/Appearance: The outside is lined with tables PERFECT for people-watching along Main Street. Lol. It was decently warm outside and the umbrellas above each table helped keep the sun out of our eyes. However, INSIDE though... was so LIVE! The music was pumping, the decor was bright, exuberant, fun and uplifting! I absolutely loved it! Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but she was awesome. She was fun, energetic, personable and made sure that we had everything that we needed. Food: I started out with a Chorizo Potato Empanada which is a fluffy, flaky, crispy shell filled with Oaxaca-jack cheese, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, lime crema, salsa roja and topped with cotija cheese. It was HOT, temperature wise, but very delicious with an excellent balance of salty, savory and creamy flavors. For my entree I went with Langosta Enchiladas! I chose these because where else but Cape Cod can you get lobster in Mexican food?! So of course I had to try them! Inside the floury, cheesy tortillas were ancho-glazed local lobster and fire roasted corn with chipotle cream sauce then topped with Oaxaca-jack cheese and sour cream. The lobster was a lil' overcooked and the flavor was drowned out by everything else going on with the enchiladas, but I did enjoy the novelty of lobster-flavored Mexican food! Lol. They were served with refried beans and Mexican rice which were also delicious as well as filling. Value: It's Cape Cod so it's not gonna be cheap because this is sort of a vacation destination, even though people do live here year-round. My single empanada was $15.00. Yah, trippin'. My lobster enchiladas were $30.00. So yeah, bring an open mind and your check book if you'd like to check this place out. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this place, so much that we came back a 2nd time! Check this place out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Anejo is my favorite restaurant to go to. If my family gets me a gift card, it's for Anejo's great food, wonderful location, and excellent atmosphere. Call ahead in the summer though because it's not easy getting a seat.

Yelp
Eggs Benedict had hard boiled(!) yolks and bland pulled pork. I liked the service and the atmosphere though. My wife liked her shrimp and avocado with lime dish. We'll try again in the future, but will avoid anything that challenges them, like poaching an egg.
google avatar

Yelp
I went here for lunch at the recommendation of a local. They did not disappoint. I stopped in for lunch. Started with the Raspberry Margarita with the complimentary chips and salsa. Had the Lobster Bisque. Then finished off with the Steak Burrito. Everything was very flavourful and filling. Service was great and the restaurant was open and welcoming.
google avatar

Yenna P.

Yelp
The tacos were very good, but the salad was lacking. The ingredients were not appropriately portioned. Our server was very nice and the restaurant tastefully decorated. Surprisingly good for a Mexican restaurant on the Cape!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating which is dog friendly which is a huge plus since we were traveling with our dog. The wait was not terrible for a Sat evening. We left our name at the host and they text us when the table was ready. Service was okay...we had to wait a while for our order to be taken. They eventually brought out chips and salsa so I guess that was a nice touch. Portions were decent and the food was delicious. I had a chicken quesadilla with added black beans which was pretty good. We also got the pulled pork burrito...this was yummy and quite filling. I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
It was OK. It wasn't the best I ever had and it was far from the worst I ever had. It seems that everything has to be covered in something in order to eat it. All natural is not too bad either. We ordered a whole bunch of dishes just to try a lot of stuff. Everything was pretty good. it was recommended by someone locally. Make a reservation, because you definitely don't wanna wait. And if you walk in without a reservation, they slightly looked down on you. Making the experience not so fun. I feel bad for all those people who were told they'd have to wait 90 minutes for a table. It's definitely a popular spot. They open for a late lunch also. Go in before it gets busy. I can't really recommend anything specific, it was all pretty much neutral. Try a few things.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
We came in hoping for a quick snack before hitting the beach. Each table is greeted with a basket of chips and salsa, both of which were okay. We had the steak tacos with a side of guacamole. It was the perfect portion size for a quick snack, though I'm not sure many would consider it a meal on its own. The tacos were on the smaller size and were somewhat bare. In terms of flavor, they really needed some lime. The guacamole was also underseasoned, but hit the spot nonetheless. Looking around at other peoples' plates, I wouldn't have gotten anything else. Nothing looked appealing to the eye; I even noticed someone received completely burnt quesadillas. The restaurant was very loud and busy and we had a hard time getting a hold of our server when we wanted to pay. If you're looking for a quick bite, this place is a good option, though I wouldn't make a whole dinner out of it.
google avatar

Josef T.

Yelp
Two stars for amazing service. Zero stars for astonishingly tasteless food that literally tastes like absolutely nothing at all -- quite a feat for Mexican food.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere with a healthy crowd surrounding you the entire time. Longer wait than usual for a menu that's consistent over time. Would like to see items added and a means to more easily to secure a reservation, versus walk up
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
Looking for a late evening bite and this was one of the few places still open. Ordered 3 tacos - fish, a bit on the dry side, chicken, a bit bland, and pork, juicy and flavorful. It comes with complementary chips and salsa. The salsa almost tasted like pasta sauce. Service was decent, but they were really busy so the staff wasn't by much. Prices are to be expected in this area. Street parking is limited.
google avatar

Pat B.

Yelp
First time here. We shall be back! Nice outdoor seating. Friendly wait staff. Loved our waitress. Complimentary chips and salsa....yummy. The hubs ordered a taco salad and I had the pork carnitas quesadilla. Food was delicious. I might order the quesadilla again and again because it was that good. The pork carnitas was so tender and the portion was generous.

Yelp
Alright, as someone who grew up in the Southwest, I consider myself a pretty competent authority on Mexican food. I used to live on cape cod and visited Anejo more times than I can count. Through all my years living back east, Anejo was the only Mexican restaurant that not only compared to, but rivaled many of the Mexican restaurants out west. I swear I never had a bad meal here. Everything was always fresh, and you could tell that all the ingredients were made/prepared in-house. Their taco Tuesday deal in the winter was something I looked forward to every week. The ambiance is great and the inside of the restaurant is very nicely decorated. If you're ever on the cape, Anejo is a must visit.

Yelp
Everyone i was with really enjoyed their meals and the margaritas were phenomenal! We sat outside and the inside was dark but nice. Considering we had a group of 8 the service was quick and pretty impressive.
google avatar

Luanne W.

Yelp
Outstanding Mexican restaurant. All fresh ingredients and just delicious. The quahog was a great appetizer. Great salads and the cod dish is exceptional. Of course you must have a margarita and the coconut one pictured here was one of the best. Outdoor dining and great service! Make a reservation!

Yelp
We had a last minute reservation for a Sunday birthday celebration. Even though we arrived on time we had more than a half hour wait to be seated. Granted the restaurant was extremely busy. Other than that the experience was 5 stars all around. Everyone was happy with their meal. The wait staff was efficient and accommodating. And the bill was surprisingly reasonable.
google avatar

Jeannine N.

Yelp
OK guys. I couldn't decide if I was going to give this place a 2 or 3 star. In my opinion, if it was up to me, I give it a 2. I'm familiar with good authentic Mexican food when I taste it and I cook it often. However, my kids thought the food was really good. The waitress was super nice and accommodating so service is a 5 and we had a nice outdoor table, so I give ambience a 5. The fancy drinks were yummy, I will give them that. The salsa was fantastic and perfect as well. My daughter liked her steak Street tacos and my other daughter enjoyed her enchilada. My meal, however, was an epic fail. I ordered the shrimp tostada. There was more lettuce on it than anything else and the shrimp, which was hard to find, was tasteless and few. The guacamole was literally smashed avocado with no fiesta to it. Sorry, I will not return. ~Nini

Yelp
We love Anejo! Food and margaritas are incredible. We love the spicy mango margarita and the carnitas tacos are so so good. I had the Rojas enchiladas and those were killer. We can't wait to go back. Great vibe and waitstaff are fantastic. We love the bar!!

Yelp
The bf and I went twice over a 3-day trip to the Cape for New Years. The first time, we went for a couple of drinks only (no food) and sat at the bar. The bartenders were quick and friendly. He got the cucumber margarita which was light and refreshing. I went with the Anejo Manhattan and boy, was it strong! Yes, Manhattans are supposed be strong. I'd never had one with tequila before and it was a different world. It took me a while to finish, but it was good. We got free chips and salsa as soon as we sat down as well, so that was a nice touch. When we were cashing out, we were given a red envelope that held some sort of discount if used between Jan 1 and Jan 31 which is what prompted us to return on Jan 1. There was no bar seating available the afternoon of Jan 1, so we got a table. We couldn't open our coupon until we were in front of a staff member which was smart of them - if you opened it at home and didn't like the coupon, you wouldn't return. Not knowing made us return out of curiosity! Ha. Ours ended up being a free order of wings which were normally $14. Not too shabby. So, the bf got the habanero wings and I got a chicken chimichanga with a side of guac. The food was pretty tasty and the portions were large. The habanero wings had a kick, apparently. My chimichanga was yummy - crispy on the outside and filled with yummy chicken, cheese, etc on the inside. The side of guac was also tasty and they gave a good portion - definitely enough to accompany my chimichanga. The one downside of that visit was my drink. I made the mistake of ordering off-menu and asked if the bartender would be able to make a pineapple martini. They had pineapple in some of their margaritas, so I didn't think it would be hard to create a drink with pineapple and vodka. I don't know what they did, but it was one of the worst drinks I've ever had. The aftertaste was bitter and just... bad. I asked the server for a side of simple syrup to sweeten it up and it didn't help at all. The on-menu drinks were good. I would totally go back for a margarita, but I shouldn't have ordered off menu. My bad. I paid for that decision... Ha. Anyway - good service, food and margaritas. Also loved that they stay open in the winter. I would return.

Yelp
Superb atmosphere and superior food! Always busy so be prepared to get there early. Outside dining is wonderful.

Yelp
1st time there good food. Had the pollo chimichanga and a great coconut margaritas! Service was good. Ambiance is nice

Susan C.

Yelp
Horribly overpriced. Extremely tiny portions. The lobster bisque took me about three bites to finish. The fried pickles were disgusting. Do not recommend this place in the slightest.

Yelp
Had a great experience here. Food was so tasty and the environment was very cool. Drinks were flowing and we forgot all about the ferry we missed.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant ever and i'm not lying. I will say there are some items that are hit or miss (certain tacos) but this salad & the chicken tacos are my go to every time, they're so good! the raspberry mojito & spicy pineapple margarita were also amazing! also the chips and salsa are soooo good! i ask to go here every weekend lol!

Yelp
Great location if you like to people watch. Very good fresh food especially the guacamole

Caitlin K.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here. Can go for a girls dinner, to watch the Celtics, or just have a delicious meal with your family. Turns into more of a bar at night and becomes pretty lively. They have my favorite salad on cape cod (the shrimp and avocado).

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Falmouth. Open late, with a delicious menu. Eaten here many times, always delicious. Lovely to sit outside as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We ate here on a Monday around oneish and there was a decent lunch rush, especially for the off-season (December). We ordered the calamari mojo and the Baja fish tacos. The calamari was really unique and tasty! And the fish tacos were reportedly great. Service was also good. We just moved into the area and would definitely return!
google avatar

Daniel N.

Yelp
I would give them a 3.5, but round up because I think they are much better than I enjoyed my food. I got the beef chimichanga, which was huge and delicious, except for the red sauce on the top, which had a bit of sweetness to it, which I do not care for. My partner got the enchiladas, which she loved (and couldn't finish, as it was also a LOT of food). Service and atmosphere were both well above average. It was crowded, during the offseason, and was recommended to me by someone who's recommendations I trust, so you will probably have a good experience if you dine there.

Yelp
Another terrific meal at Anejo tonight, This may be my favorite Mexican restaurant of all time, and I've been to Mexico! Well done!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Had to go back. This is by far my favorite restaurant we've tried on our month at the Cape. I love everything I've eaten here. The queso fundido is ridiculous. Save your chips to eat it with. The plantains were consistently amazing. Got the fish with the corn this time and holy crap it was good! I want to go back at least one more time before we leave!! But OH MY GOD PLEASE CHANGE YOUR "RESERVATION" SYSTEM!

Maddie C.

Yelp
Our server, Bridget, was awesome!!! She was cool, was friendly, and had great recommendations for a newbie. Ask for her as a waitress!
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
I stopped at this restaurant for a quick lunch and it was quite busy but I was seated right away. I ordered some wine and the tres tacos. I was served really quickly which was great! The tacos were very yummy and the complementary chips and salsa were also tasty. The tres tacos came with some type of cucumber salad on the side and it was SO GOOD. I ate every bite of it! If I had one critique I would say that the meat was pretty dry on the tacos. However, the toppings made up for that. The servers were nice and I really enjoyed the outdoor seating off to the side of the building. Also, the prices are reasonable for what you get. I'll be sure to come again!

Yelp
Food is generally good, although they sometimes make some strange fusion dishes that don't totally make sense for mexican flavors. The place is small and won't take reservations so you can expect a wait. Large selection of tequila and good micheladas. They can make their veggie burrito vegan and it is very good!
