Angel

I come to the Angel when I want a quiet pint, sometimes with one or both of my daughters, it has a warm friendly ambience, all the staff are lovely. Food always lookes & smells nice.Whoever is behind the bar always takes my pint to the table, inside & out. I love that it is dog friendly, I lost my dog earlier this year so I love to make a fuss of any dogs that will let me. I love the tasteful Christmas decorations, lovely, just enough, some other places go way over the top into 'cheap & nasty....... I can't recommend The Angel enough, go try, you'll be made most welcome.

Great menu selection with excellent value. Came here on a Monday evening and wasn't disappointed. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the food came out fast!

Had a lovely meal at the angel. Group of us went and had a lovely time. Bar staff really friendly and lovely and the food was amazing. Would come back every day.

Myself, my Husband and our little boy popped in for a quick family meal. We couldn’t fault the food or service. The staff were really accommodating and brought out or little boys food first and made sure he had cutlery he could use. The food was hot, well presented and came out quick. When we visit the area again we will certainly be back! Thank you!

Amazing food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Dogs welcomed (with doggie treats) A nice location after a long walk over the moor. Definitely recommend. We'll be back x

Great local pub, has everything you could ask for, good beer, food & sport. Not much for the kids, needs an outdoor play area.

*New review* from 5/7/23 Well , pretty dreadful food. Having read through the reviews left by other people I am slightly confused as to whether I was unlucky tonight or if my standards are higher. The Angel IS a nice little pub but WAY too expensive. A pound more for cider than down the road. Fish and chips at £14? Very ambitious for a local pub. So 2 of their pies are award winning. We looked up the awards afterwards and suggest you do the same. Not all is at it seems! Not sure how they got any sort of award. Rock hard pastry, around 1/6 of the pie had filling, Grisly meat. Total waste of money. My companion sent his steak back. That's for his review. In short the food does not match the price at all. This is the 3rd bad meal I've had here so all done for me at the Angel after 24 years of patronage. I'll be off to the Station or over the road. *********************************************** *Old review from 5 years ago below* Well. The Angel has been renovated and not in a good way. The interior and exterior looks lovely, sort of shabby chic as can be seen in the photos. The food is AWFUL! FIrst I ordered sausages and mash. The mash was a single concealed lump of white stuck to my plate surrounded by bullet-like peas, and had 3 thin gristly sausages on. I managed three bites before sending it back. They replaced it with Hunter's chicken. This was microwaved, chewy, tough and dry chicken topped with cold stringy bacon and flavourless greasy cheese. Nothing like their description and nothing like it should actually be like. Accompanied by ' gourmet' chips. What does that mean? They were not chips they were fries, and they were chewy and cold. The coleslaw was made out of who knows what and it took a pint of lemonade to get rid of the after-taste. I gave up and asked for a refund. My friend had a steak and he complained mightily throughout and then was poorly the next day with an.upset stomach. Could just be a coincidence of course Truly was one of the WORST MEALS I have ever had in every way, and I felt sorry for the poor bar staff who were absolutely lovely. I've been coming here for 20 years so I'll come here to have a drink. But to eat? Hmm. Not sure.

Quite a nice, friendly pub that shows sports. The food was alright, I had the chicken tikka masala which was enjoyable. The beef and ale pie wasn’t amazing, some of the meat was gristly and the mash potato was a bit like Smash
