An amazing place to get cupcakes! Their best sellers are Meyer Lemon Cream, Chocolate Salted Caramel, and Red Velvet. Those flavors are all really good, and I love their daily assortment, but I have to say that my most favorite flavor is the Vanilla Salted Caramel, if you are lucky enough to be there on a day it is featured try it, you will not be disappointed.

I have passed by many times, and this is the first time I walked in, the lady was very friendly. I'm Cantonese, I like things that are not too sweet, the eggnog flavor tastes great. Will buy again.

Ordered a custom cake for our son’s 100th day celebration. Communication via email was easy. I sent a inspo pic and the cake came out beautifully and was delicious. The red velvet was moist and so yummy!

I love Angel Cakes! Their cupcakes are always amazing - i'm vegan, and their gluten-free, vegan cupcakes are my favorite. how they make a perfect gf, vegan cupcake... i'll never know. They always have exciting and interesting new flavors and the staff are so kind <3

We ordered a mini cupcake for everyone at our wedding and they were very popular. We had several taste options, having visited and tried the different flavors. We also got a small cake 'topper' for ourselves. They were all delicious. Consider giving this small venue your business. You won't be disappointed. Btw, if you looking for the Angel Cakes that used to be off Tenth Street in Berkeley, you found it. They moved since our order to Oakland on 5th & Brush St. Update: We picked up Angel cakes for our anniversary, getting there just before/at closing. The staff is extremely nice, and the display has many to choose from.

I’m not usually a cake person, but I tried a few of the flavors at a party and the creativity blew my mind. Huge fan of the holiday specials, including gluten free!

This is my favorite dessert spot! Their cupcakes and cakes are amazing! Super moist, plenty of frosting, and beautiful! My favorites are the passionfruit cake and the lemon/passionfruit cupcakes. The shop is super cute, and they are easy to work with for special orders.

I bought 4 cupcakes for a vendor so I never got to taste it but the selection was great and the cupcakes presented well. Wish I could try the zinfandel next time. I grabbed the last one!

Very first time here, we pass by this cute store often. Noticed a TGTG bag here so decided it was our time to give it a try. Thought it was be a great treat for the kids after practice and a new to go spot for us. First walked in we weren't greeted. Notice someone just sitting until someone else came out and said I was here for a TGTG. I said oh this place is so cuuuuute. Again no response. With the mystery bag you never know what you're going to get. The value was there and the cupcakes are so soft and flavorful! Unfortunately the flavors in our box were not for us. I am all about unique flavors- we received 2 Mexican chocolate with chili (spicy and tasted like red hots candy) and a wasabi ginger (not a fan of either of these in general) cupcake- this is something I couldn't share with the kids at all. We tried the raspberry (not the meyer lemon one) and wasn't sure what the flavor was but we were not a fan. I can tell why these were unsold flavors and left for TGTG. I'm all about reducing food waste but those flavors were hard to swallow. With the combination of customer service and location, we wouldn't come back. Parking is also only street parking that's sooooo busy. I would be interested to try the popular classic flavors, maybe if I ever decide to come back.

I was never one for cupcakes as they are usually always so dry or very over done, but when I found out about this place it changed my mind about cupcakes. I love how they always have different, creative, and new flavors every time I come in. Their bars and cheesecakes are nothing to pass up on either! Always a must for when I'm out in the area!

I had a custom vegan gluten free cake made for my bestie's birthday and it was a huge hit. This chocolate peanut butter cake was sinfully delicious and they were responsive and very accommodating to our needs. Highly recommend!! Thank you Angel Cakes!

Was just there again--- ever more so since the passing of its beloved owner and founder. The good here are so consistently delicious and moist... lots of choices. From cake to cupcake, I enjoy giving them to friends and workmates... always a given winner. Probably tried at least 10 flavors by now and I will continue to be a loyal patron!

I absolutely love this local bakery and have been getting cupcakes here for the last three years. They come in such fun flavors, and there is something new every day. If you need to bring something sweet to an event or just want a cupcake for after work, this place is the spot!

I ordered cupcakes and a smash cake for my daughter's first birthday from Angel Cakes. I appreciate them patiently working with me and listening to my ideas to make my vision a reality. My daughter's narwhal smash cake was so beautiful, more beautiful than the inspiration photos I sent! I was impressed! The rainbow colored cupcakes were perfect for our theme. The guests LOVED the cupcakes and asked where we got them. Unfortunately, I didn't get a great pic of the cake while it was intact :-(. So I will just share a pic of the cupcakes. I received a box of vegan cupcakes the day I came home from giving birth to my newborn. Now, these are the only cupcakes I ever think about because they are: 1) moist - not oily 2) great balance - not too sweet 3) delicious, colorful flavors - goodbye boring vanilla and plain chocolate! I'm no longer prisoner of preservative-packed vegan cupcakes from WF or overtly sweet vegan cupcakes from other bakeries! With postpartum brain, I forgot where they came from and had to immediately contact the sender. I googled Angel Cakes Cupcakes and was heartbroken to hear about Jen Angel's passing. RIP to a wonderful and beautiful community organizer, outstanding baker, and one of a kind soul. I hope her legacy and work continues one bite and one march at a time.

Wonderful variety, including vegan & gluten-free. And the v and gf choices are not just some sad vanilla & chocolate cupcakes--they're just as adventurous & creative. Highly recommend the lemon and salted caramel cupcakes. I'm not a big chocolate fan, but my friends said the chocolate flavor ones were likewise delish. Easy to get to, but don't try to go on a Monday--they're closed and you'll just end up weeping in your car like me. The employees are kind, personable, and helpful. Go try it out!

Angel Cakes makes the best mini cupcakes I've ever had, and I don't take my mini cupcakes lightly.

Going to a family get together I felt cupcakes where a great item to bring. You can bring different kinds and flavors to satisfy multiple people. When I walked in I noticed a citrus aroma in the air and low and behold right in front of me behind the the counter was a table full of lemons being peeled by 3 of the kindest ladies I've ever met. They were very attentive, great service, and humorous, as well as considerate to my order. Later that night the cupcakes I bought where devoured and enjoyed by the family.

Really a staple in the town . Grateful for this establishment and all memories and blessings this place holds. You in for good time not a long time.

Very disappointing experience trying to order a custom cake from this bakery. I was so jazzed to use this bakery based on their social accounts and what they espouse that they represent. But I had a very negative experience with the staff, in particular Kelly, who was very negative and lacked customer service skills. I had a huge budget and was basically giving them artistic license to design the cake, but they didn't seem to want that or want to create something cool and unique. They were focused on the limitations of what was possible. This is not what I'm looking for in a cake artist. It was also frustrating that it took them a while to actually say they weren't going to be able to deliver on what I was asking for, so now I am without a cake a week before the event.

Saw this on my way to get something work related. It caught my attention because it looked to be housed in the old Gingerbread house restaurant that was there many years ago. I wasn't lucky enough to eat there. After I completed my errand I came in. It's a walk in and get something to go and also catering/pick up something you ordered. They had a cute selection of holiday flavor so I bought 6. The thing I liked is that the frosting is not overly sweet and not massive amount on it. I think its a waste to dump half the frosting The cupcakes are normal size. Staff is friendly too. Will be back.

Best experience I've ever had with a bakery. My lady's birthday is right after the holidays. I've been slammed so I didn't get around to her cake until right before new years, but Angel cake's were really fast and absolutely killed the cake. i couldn't be happier. They're rates are fair, their flavors list has so much variety and really good ones too. Kelly was really responsive and easy to work with. Definitely coming back here!!!

I'll keep this brief. It's the day before Thanksgiving. I beefed it and forgot to buy a pumpkin pie for dessert on Thursday. My usual bakeries are sold out, and there's no way I want to cope with a day-before-Turkey Day trip to Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods. And I'm over the sugary, not-pumpkin tasting disappointments I've had from Safeway. Then the husband mentions he saw slices of pumpkin pie at a downtown Oakland cafe that were from Angel Cakes Cupcakes. I thought Angel Cakes was strictly cupcakes, but since I absolutely love every cupcake I've had from them, I excitedly gave them a call asking if they still had any pumpkin pies left. "Yes!" was the answer. They took my name and processed my credit card for a pie right over the phone, and I was able to pick-up my pie before closing. The pumpkin pie was in a deep dish tin, smelled gloriously of spices, and tasted amazing the next day. It was cold, silky, in a flaky crust, had just the right amount of sweetness and blend of warm spices, and most importantly it tasted like pumpkin. One of the best pumpkin pies I've ever had! Thank you, Angel Cakes, for saving the day!

Ya'll. This is the real frickin deal. I ordered a cake for our engagement party and told Angel Cakes the general vibe of the party (fall colors, outdoor, rustic, etc) and they NAILED IT. Not only was it absolutely beautiful, but I admired how many flavor choices they had when I ordered so I went with Rose Cardamom. You GUYS. Every bite I take I melt. It is the best cake I have ever eaten, and I got so many compliments from our guests about this cake. I will be ordering every cake ever from Angel Cakes from now on. Obsessed.

I discovered this place a couple months ago when I drove past on my way somewhere else. The name was adorable and I am always looking for a new bakery to try so after following them on Instagram and drooling over photos for a couple months, I finally got a chance this weekend to stop in! We tried a small variety of things and everything was fresh and tasty, will absolutely be back! Supporting you on insta, too!!

We ordered our wedding cake from them. Apparently the geniuses couldn't figure out that one should not stack a 3- tiered cake before arrival to the destination. When she got here- my cake was a mess and we couldn't really use it. I asked if she could fix it, and I was shocked that she said she could not. How are you not able to fix the cake with some frosting or whatever you did to decorate it... or get someone here who can do it. Did I mention that was my wedding day?

We ordered Angel Cakes Cupcakes for our wedding, and they were a hit! The cupcakes were moist, delicious, and beautifully decorated. We had a variety of flavors and dietary restrictions (vegan and gluten-free) and the Angel Cakes staff was super accommodating. My husband and I had a lot fun taste-testing various flavors ahead of time - they have so many unique flavors. Angel Cakes was communicative and easy to work with and delivered to our local venue for a minimal fee. FYI, you can also rent their cupcake stands if needed for an event. We will absolutely be getting more desserts from Angel Cakes in the future!

Going to a party, I decided to get cupcakes from Angel Cakes. They are a small-batch bakery operating since 2008 specializing in cupcakes, cakes, cookies and cakesicles. They have a menu of over 120 flavors because they love experimenting in new and unusual flavor combinations. They are located on 5th St. off Brush St. on the edge of West Oakland and Jack London Square. It's a busy street with traffic heading towards the Alameda Tubes and 880. But parking was easy right in front of the bakery which was the former Gingerbread House. With it unpainted wood sidings, it does look like a gingerbread house. I got a sampler box of various flavors, which only three flavors were duplicates. Not only were the cupcakes tasty, each were works of art. They were beautifully decorated. All the guests at the party who tried the cupcakes enjoyed the cupcakes and complemented on how pretty they were. Tried the lemon cupcake and wow, the lemon flavors were intense. Delish! Highly disappointed this bakery was not able to accommodate my order. I needed a graduation cake on the day of my graduation by 12-1:00, they stated they had a meeting in the morning and the latest they can get the cake to me was 3-4. As a medical professional I do understand time, but I was highly disappointed in there lake of ability to accommodate me or even attempt. I informed them my graduation was on Tuesday at 6pm. Businesses in Oakland make it very hard to support them with their inflexibility and their strict business hours of not being open on Mondays and barely open on Tuesday.

I like helping people. Sometimes people show their appreciation with small gifts. Yesterday I received a box of cupcakes from Angel Cakes in Oakland. These delicious and delightful cupcakes are far superior to anything you'll find in a supermarket. The cake is heavenly light. The frosting is gently sweet. Each cupcake was so beautifully made, you feel like you shouldn't eat it. Originally there were six in the box, but I ate one before I got the idea to leave a short review. I could not be more grateful for finding Jen on Yelp to help make our wedding day run smoothly! We hired Jen to do our wedding cake and through her website also saw she offered event services. It turned out to be the best decision ever to hire her as our day-of-coordinator. She is very hands-on - she and her assistant set up our wedding decorations for the reception. It turned out gorgeous; better than I thought it would! I was so happy with all her help and ridding me of having to do any coordination or make decisions on the big day! She was definitely more hands-on and affordable than other coordinators who would not do table decor. We had multiple check-ins leading up to the big day and she was always available for guidance along the way. This is the way to go if you decided to plan your own wedding and did it in a short time (6 months) like me! Now onto CAKE! Jen is so easy to work with on flavors and design. She kindly let us try multiple flavors twice! We landed on rose pistachio and the gin greyhound. We did semi-naked frosting to cut down on the sweetness but both were hits! And the pricing was so reasonable. I cannot thank Jen and Maggie enough for making my dream wedding come true!

Delicious I can't say enough great things about this shop! We go in weekly usually to get cupcakes because one of my daughters is vegan and they always have vegan treats. So naturally when her birthday came around I knew they would make a delicious cake- I was advised by one of the employees that the easiest way to order is through the website. Ordered custom cake! They emailed me to confirm- my only issue was me not them, their emails kept going to my junk folder and they followed up with a phone call due to me not emailing them back. Thanks Angel Cakes!

We bought two wedding cakes from Angel Cakes. We had very specific requirements (vegan, specific designs/colors, flavors) and Jen and her team really delivered. The cakes were gorgeous, incredibly delicious, moist, and carefully packed with an instruction card on top for how we should keep them. Lots of oohs and aahs for the reveal and the first bite.

Angel cakes was so easy to work with when ordering a custom cake. They helped make my daughter's first birthday cake for her smash cake photo shoot absolutely perfect. Really didn't want to smash this cake since it was so pretty but my daughter dug in and had a serious ratatouille moment when tasting the banana and caramel flavors. The cake was delicious and looked great in photos! Can't wait to order more cakes for future birthdays!

Always a winner! Makes a surprise treat for the family and an easy, fun choice for a social gathering! We have our favorites but there is always something new to try. Make it a monthly or weekly stop in. The kid loves the red velvet and mom enjoys the passion fruit/Meyer lemon, dad...anything chocolate!

This was sooo good! Soft frosting and moist cakes- on point flavors. I really loved the flavors and will def be back for more or for catering needs.

Bought some cupcakes for a friend's birthday since they were open on Sunday. We ordered a dozen different cupcakes. Since they had many different flavors available, we only repeated two cupcake flavors. The cupcakes were boxed nicely and we were on our way. When we got back, we added some dragon toppers and were excited to try some. I tried my first cupcake and was immediately wondering if there was a filling in the middle I was unaware of. Unfortunately what it ended up being was that it was cooked perfectly on part and the other part was still moist and undercooked. I'm not sure how that happens (but I'm also not a baker so maybe this is an issue that happens) but I showed my friends and they also said it looked a little mushy. I decided to try another cupcake since they get such good reviews and I'm not sure if it was the bad experience with the first cupcake, but I didn't enjoy the second cupcake though it was fully cooked. I don't plan on returning again but they could have just been having an off day so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt given the much higher reviews others have given.

Came twice. Once for my grandmothers 90th bday party cupcakes and once to buy some for the Oakland Animal services staff and volunteers. Their cupcakes are by far the best in the area. Don't believe me? Go try. Prices are about average I think but it's nice to order the minis and get to try more. I usually buy a box and get a specialty cupcake for myself for the road. Super sad about the latest events, but I will continue to support the business as long as they keep their doors open.

My husband and I got married on April 10, 2023 at the Brazilian Room at Tilden Park in Berkeley, CA. Angel Cakes provided our desserts - 255 cupcakes (150 minis + 105 regular) and a single-tired 6" round for cake cutting. I began working with Angel Cakes back in Sept 2022, with Jen Angel. She was amazing and took the time to learn about our vision and theme. She was so helpful and patient while we were thinking through the flavor choices we wanted. I also was super drawn to Angel Cakes because they were able to make all of our desserts vegan, but still taste amazing (which is not super common). By the time the big day was approaching, Jen was unfortunately no longer with us, but her amazing team didn't miss a beat! Our order was delivered to our venue on a day that they typically did not provide delivery services and everything went off without a hitch. I so appreciate this business as they have been through a lot this year, but they continue to keep Jen's legacy alive and the business thriving. Thank you so much for everything!!

I was looking for a birthday cake for my friend(last minute) and went to Chinatown but almost every place there accept cash only so I had to find somewhere else....... So I drive toward Jack London Square and found this little cute place. I got 6 cupcakes for my friend and a Pecan bar for myself. Pecan bar was little bit too sweet&salty for my liking but I think it would taste good with a cup of coffee or tea. Cupcakes tasted good..... I love the texture that they didn't fall apart when eating. Only one customer/one group allowed at a time and there was another customer waiting behind me so I couldn't get good pictures inside but it was super cute there.....

I've driven by Angel Cake several times on the way to Alameda but haven't had the opportunity to try their cupcakes until this weekend for my son's 100 day party. They have online ordering available which was convenient and easy to use. We ordered 2 mini cupcake samplers which included their most popular flavors: funfetti, chocolate, Meyer lemon, and red velvet. Usually with mini cupcakes, they tend to be dry, but not these! All the guests complimented on how delicious the cupcakes were. Angel Cakes's Instagram posts their daily flavors each day that I did not see listed on their website. I wish there were more flavor options available for online orders, otherwise it's best to drop by and see what to have in store that day. They also do custom cakes aside from cupcakes. Happy I discovered this local gem, and can't wait to have them again for my next special event!

I've been on the search for delicious cupcakes in the Bay Area. My partner's birthday was around the corner, so I decided to furiously search through Yelp to find a dessert option. And long and behold, I found this place!! I tried to preorder in advance, but it was a lot easier to just go in person. You get to choose an assortment of flavors. It was 1/2 dozen for $19 or a dozen for $36. Individual cupcakes were $3.50 each so it's better to buy in bulk. All of these were full sized. The mini cupcakes weren't an option unless you preorder and you only get the choice of one flavor. So I chose the following: -red velvet -meyer's lemon -Vietnamese coffee -strawberry and cream -dark chocolate raspberry -forgot the last one. The Vietnamese coffee and strawberry cream were my favorite. Although red velvet is popular, it tasted a bit chalky to me so I will pass on that next time. Overall I really like the flavor of their cupcakes. The cream is simply delicious, flavorful, and balances the cupcakes well. I'll definitely come back to try other flavors. One reason I'm knocking a star down is staff didn't seem as friendly. When I go to a cupcake store, staff are usually helpful and jump the gun to tell you the most popular cupcake. Here you have to ask what flavors are good.

These little cupcakes are to die for!! They have so many flavors! We try to get a new flavor every time, that's how good they all are! Highly recommend!

I ordered a birthday cake and asked the Angel Cakes team to integrate Marvel and turtle themes, which they did in a beautiful fashion for my partner's birthday. The service and attention to detail was fantastic, and the cake was absolutely delicious.

Let me start out with saying THOSE CUPCAKES ARE AMAZING! I don't know how many times I've passed this place and never thought about going in and sampling their stuff. So, last week I was looking for a cupcake place that delivers and came across Angel Cakes on Yelp. I ordered through the website, it took two days, but they eventually got back to me, confirmed my order of 40 cupcakes and sent me a link for the payment. I paid, got another confirmation, and they told me they would deliver on the day of between 11am and 1pm. And that's the only criticism I have and why there are 4 stars instead of 5. They mixed up the delivery with pickup and at 1pm, there were still no cupcakes. I called at 12:30 to make sure the delivery is on its way and only got their machine and no call back. I called again at almost 2. That's when they noticed the mistake and delivered within 25 minutes. Stressed me out a bit, but in the end, all was good, and we enjoyed their wonderful treats. Big plus: they have vegan and GF cupcakes as well, so we were able to order a few of those as well. The absolute favorite for all people who tried them were the salted chocolate ones. I also loved the carrot cake ones. Basically, you probably can't go wrong with any of the flavors, and they are all SO pretty!

Angel cakes has the best fancy cupcakes in the 50 mile radius. They are exactly what you want in a cupcake. Perfect level of sweetness. Perfect level of sweetness. Perfect level of sweetness. The frosting is fantastic.

It is so hard to find vegan AND gluten-free desserts and I was so happy to discover this place! I ordered cupcakes from here about 4 years ago and found out about them from a friend. It was so easy to order online and they are so accommodating with all of their flavors that they can make as vegan and gluten free. Parking here is quite difficult, it's located at the corner of 5th Street and Brush. 5th street is pretty busy and you have to parallel park. I think it's easier parking on brush or another parallel street and walking but the area is not the safest area. I like how they post their daily menu on IG so you have a glimpse of what they have available. They have so many flavors available that it could get kind of overwhelming and the worker told me that they make cupcakes throughout the day so some flavors are gone but new flavors also reappear. Vegan and gluten free flavors (when I visited)-- double chocolate, coconut passion fruit, and carrot cake. My sister in law was very impressed and enjoyed it. She was surprised at how moist the cupcakes were. They have such a wide variety of flavors. The funfetti one was vegan, I enjoyed it and so did my 3 year old nephew. They were all really good. I got their red velvet, cookie, chocolate saluted caramel, vanilla salted caramel, and chocolate peanut butter. They only let one customer in at a time but I will definitely come back here to pick up more cupcakes in the future and try out other flavors!
