Angel Comedy Club @ The Bill Murray

A live comedy pub situated in a residential street in Islington. One of the only pure stand-up pubs in London and structured as a co-operative / community pub. Will host some sort of comedy from professional comics almost every night of the year. Has an amazing facade, a mural to some of the legends of the art. Quality of the acts is always really good, they don't just let anyone in. You have to book in advanced. The venue is imtimate and tight, so not the most comfortable - but to be expected from a small residential pub. The bar area is good, but again a bit of a squeeze. This venue is certainly better in summer, when the beer garden and street can be used. It's great that places like this still exist - and very much enjoyed the visit

I loved it. Very intimate. I mean I practically felt I was inside the comedians I was watching! Probably not as exciting from their perspective, but I wasn’t complaining. I really do hope that one day Bill Murray does visit the place - I’m sure he’d approve! Not that it’s named after him or anything of course 😜

I love this venue. So spacious and the vibe is good with chill crowd. The MC is really funny and the team runs the place neatly

Great atmosphere and Adam Hopkins rocked his work in progress show! Really enjoyed it. Friendly staff and a cool toilet for selfies lol

The bar is small but intimate. Very cosy. Drinks are reasonably priced and very friendly staff! The venue for standup comedy was big enough and was very comfortable to watch the gig! Would definitely go again

Absolutely legendary venue, well known to anyone who loves comedy. Extremely intimate venue at which I've watched many of the greats trying out new material. There's also a small beer garden for between shows. Highlights include Kitson and Bilal Zafar. Highly recommend.

Went to see Shoot from the Hip here (can't recommend enough) and it was great. The venue itself is quite small and crowded, especially in the bar area, so it was a bit difficult to move while we were waiting to be seated. The location is also a bit hidden from the main street but the area was nice, beautiful, and quiet. They also didn't have the wifi password posted anywhere that I could see, so I'm assuming you have to ask a staff member for it. Otherwise, overall good experience and if you haven't seen Shoot from the Hip yet, you definitely should!

A group of friends and I had a terribly disappointing experience at this bar. PROS: The comedy show was pretty good. CONS: The drinks were absolutely awful, the venue itself is crammed and old. ***We could have overlooked the cons and had a lovely evening, however, one of the staff members, a stout woman in her 40s with short blonde hair, was so incredibly and uneccessarily rude to our group, it ruined the entire evening. We had arrived to the venue about 5 minutes before the show started, and immedietley went to check in for the comdey show. We asked the very nice door man if we had time to grab drinks and quickly use the toilet before sitting down, and he said no problem and no need to rush. We were waiting for our last friend in the toilet not even 5 minutes later, when the female staff member approached and told us in a very rude tone that if we didn't take our seats immedietley we could not go to the show. She also stated that since we had decided to "take our sweet time" coming into the venue, that she was no longer able to sit us together. We explained to her nicely that we would have sat down upon arrival, but the other door man had told us we had time to get drinks and use the toilet, and we were just waiting on our last friend who was in the toilet. Her response was so absolutely rude and strange, we were shocked. She starts by going "I know there is one of you missing, I have eyes and can count!" Then she insinuates that the door man had never said that, and we were lying. She then stands there awkwardly in between my boyfriend and I while we are waiting for our friend to return. She then continues to berate us as she escorted us all to our seats. So bizarre and unnessecarily rude, but most of all disappointing because we loved the comedians but sadly won't be returning. (The 2nd star is only because of the comedians).

A little tight on space when it's packed but it's packed cuz it's a great place to hang out at ! Decent beer selection but not much food besides Crisps or "potatoe chips" American. Comedians were very funny and made for a pleasant ending to our night.

Surprised this is a FIRST review, but hot tip that The Bill Murray in Angel is host to one of the funnest things to do on the cheap in London. 7 nights a week they have a nightly comedy show. They do ask for people to chip in at the end but it's totally at your discretion. They serve drinks at the bar which you can buy and bring into the show before or during intermission. Their comedians come from far and wide (as far as LA and if not local from as near as Glasgow). Big names are often found there to test new material or just play around with the audience. It was a really good time and now that the secret's out, please arrive early otherwise you might not be seated.
