What a cool campground! Isolated and peaceful with a beautiful view of Mount Shaveno! The host was awesome, and the bathroom was clean!

We camped at Angel of Shavano Campground a couple of weeks ago and stayed in spot #8... This campground is off of CR240 in Salida we were going up the road looking for a camping spot and found this by kismet and it was AWESOME! I did fail to ask for the Hosts name in which I feel horrible about because he was so AMAZING! Whoever he is...I want to say how kind and welcoming he was! He maintained and kept this beautiful campground AMAZING! I keep saying these keywords in capitals because that’s how AWESOME this host and campground was!!! It was not only in a beautiful location! With a river nearby it was kept unturned almost like if there was no human activity! The restroom facilities were kept nice and clean and equipped! No running of water course in the restroom facilities however there is a nearby water pump to get water on site. I can’t express how awesome this place is! And the overnight fee is only $20 or Day Use $7!!! Great PLACE and GREAT PRICES! We can’t wait to go back!

This is a first come first serve camping ground. It has 2-3 trails but is next to a small creek, with strong water. We really enjoyed it. Ranger was on duty always so it felt so safe.

So happy with our experience at this campground. So close and convenient to Salida but you feel so far away. Stayed at site 14 in our rooftop tent. Large site next to the creek, beautiful area, abundant wildlife, clean bathrooms, and kind camp host. Highly recommend this campground.

A great small (19 sites) campground near Mt Shavano. We were able to park our 28' trailer in #1. Trailhead for The Colorado Trail (and onto Shavano Mountain) is just outside the campgrounds. Or you can continue north on CR240 past the campgrounds on an OHV and see some beautiful vistas. Leon and his wife Sara Fay are wonderful campground hosts.

After trying a more popular first come first serve campground that ended up being fully booked, my girlfriend and I came here and it was a great decision. There were lots of open sites, even on a weekend in June. It was nice and quiet, felt pretty far from the crowds which was very nice. There is a fast flowing river close to the sites that is nice to look at and sounds wonderful too. The park host was very nice and informative, gave us some great recommendations for things in the area to do, plus her dog peanut was a cutie. The hike from the trailhead is a fun one, not super far to the ridge line but some good elevation gain with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains. If I find myself in the area again I would definitely come back here.

Quiet, SHADY campground. Must not be near ATV trails, because I wasn't subjected to noisy machines driving back and forth all day. Very well kept, at least in 2022 - the host rakes every site between campers; it looks a little like one of those Japanese gardens. Hand pump for drinking water. I had to work a lot to get a modest amount of water. Centrally located pit toilet. My spot (#4) was close to the toilet, and I did get a little whiff of it a couple of times. There is a large group picnic area next door to this campground. Sites near the entrance might hear those picnickers if they got rowdy.

Stayed here in mid-May. Still quite chilly, esp. at night. Recommend 4-season tent and at least 20F sleeping bag. The advantage? We had the grounds pretty much to ourselves! Did get a good thunderstorm with some hail, but nothing too large. :) Get a spot along the creek! The sound is exquisite! And we used creek water we filtered for drinking water. Hiked on the Colorado trail as well, and didn’t see any bear activity - either around the camp ground, or on the trail for that matter... Also note that it’s quite pricey at $20/night.
