"Angela’s has a large menu of Mexican staples and a full liquor license, the latter of which is a rarity in East Boston. For dinner, the prices are unjustifiably higher than other places in the neighborhood, so you should just come for brunch. There’s always a line on the weekends, and the 27-minute wait is arguably worth it for the chilaquiles. The other dishes are fine, but we think there are better spots to go to for brunch." - Joel Ang

Note that they are cash only. We came here on a whim after a +45 minute wait quoted at Cafe Moulin down the street. Located down the stairs across the street from Starbucks, next to the Treat ice cream shop, is a quaint diner-esque cafe with two waitresses and limited seating space. I think there were four tables outside and less than ten inside, but there was no wait to be seated at 12:30PM on a Sunday. The waitstaff were friendly, immediately offering us coffee and providing water in a pitcher. In a party of four, we ordered a South West Omelet with American cheese, a Meat Omelet (with bacon and Colby-Jack cheese), the Middle Bite (scrambled eggs), and another omelet of some kind. Options for toast are white, wheat, or rye and options for meat are bacon, canadian bacon, breakfast sausage, or ground beef. Cheese options are listed in the menu and include American, Chedder, Colby-jack, Pepper Jack, Swiss, or Provolone. Food took a little while to get out, ~20-30 minutes, likely because it was being cooked fresh. Coffee refills are free and welcomely offered frequently, although they are limited to only standard creamer and sugar. The food itself tasted homemade and all dishes came out hot. I was surprised to see that the American cheese was clearly melted in slices, whereas my Colby Jack cheese was melted more evenly. The toast was perfectly toasted. Similar reviews were positively provided by my party for the hash browns and scrambled eggs. I wouldn't say they were anything special, but it wasn't overly greasy or buttery in the way that most other breakfast places are. Felt a lot more home-style. There are no surprise fees here and we were provided a paper bill with exact amounts ($8.50 Middle Bite + 12.50 * 2 Omelet + 13.50 South West Omelet + $7.50 three coffees with refills for $54.50). The last interesting note is that the interior of the restaurant got pretty smoky. It is warm inside (my glasses fogged up as I walked in). Nice on a cold Pittsburgh day, maybe not if it's hotter out. Food: 3/5 (Average) Service: 4/5 (Positive, except for service speed) Atmosphere: 2/5 (Smokiness, cash only) Overall: 3.5/5

The Blueberry Belgian waffle is my new religion: the blueberry syrup-sauce my messiah, the blueberries my priest, the crispy-perfection waffle my church. Seriously it’s ALL so good; extremely homemade and locally-sourced. I can taste the love in every bite. Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Richard and Debbie for this wonderfully delicious start to my morning.

I love Angela’s! They make their food with such care. Truly the best waffle I’ve ever had. And such kind people and service. A hidden gem and welcome change from the typical subpar / overpriced diners around.

Good experience, friendly staff, nice outdoor seating. Some menu items are no longer available. Be aware it is cash only & open 8:30am-3pm.

Don't let the pictures fool you! This food is flavorful and extremely delicious. These southern siblings make amazing grits but the BEST thing to try your first time is the waffles. Had the blueberry one and they are on a different level of fantastic. I've never eaten a waffle so good in my life! They purée fresh blueberries in a light syrup to coat the fluffy crispy waffle covered with extremely fresh blueberries on top. They get ingredients from local farms. You have to stop by and try this place out. Seriously great stuff. I will be back again as soon as possible!

Cute and cozy restaurant with friendly staff and a great southern breakfast! Get the grits and breakfast sausage — you won’t find it anywhere else in pgh.

Come to Angela's Cafe if you love good quality food. Menu is on the smaller side, if compared to the nationally known breakfast spots, but they have all your favorites. Everything is high quality and tastes fabulous. They also have phenomenal coffee that has the most satisfying flavor. Service is friendly and quick. The eggs are my favorite item on the menu. My test of quality is when the most basic item tastes amazing. That is their eggs. Just wonderful without covering them with cheese, salt, or gravy. The waffles are like fluffy and light clouds, irresistible! My critique is that the interior could use a spruce-up and I would love to have a nice crispy french fry instead of chips with the sandwich, and a pickle. The Ruben was delicious by the way!

Cute hidden cafe serving breakfast and lunch. Very simple and accommodating. Cash only. I had a cheese omelet, Belgium waffle and tea all for $18! Plus tip. The warm butter syrup makes the waffle! Also, there was no wait!

Yelp
Nut friendly establishment, I don't think they really use anything with nuts. Note that they are cash only. We came here on a whim after a +45 minute wait quoted at Cafe Moulin down the street. Yelp
Angela's Cafe gave me a small town diner vibes in the best way. From what I could tell there was just a chef and a waitress working in the cafe when I went. The waitress was very nice and the dining experience overall was comfy. It might have been the weather too but it was definitely less packed than the other breakfast joints near by. I ordered the strawberry Belgian waffle with egg and grits. Everything was good and tasted just as you would expect them to taste. It's cash only though and the prices on the menu are with taxes included. I'll definitely be coming back when I want to eat a simple breakfast in a restaurant quiet enough to have a conversation!

Yelp
Quaint little spot. It was suggested to me by a friend while I was visiting Pittsburg (for the first time) for a quick getaway trip - yes, I'm an avid Steelers fan!! I went there during breakfast time. He (my friend) suggested I try their crepes. But I have to brag first. I make homemade pancakes, and I make them so well that I'm ALWAYS pegged by my family (all sides) to make pancakes for breakfast. Angela's crepes made me ashamed of my recipe. OMG!! Sooo light, larger than the plate & tasty! I do plan on visiting Pitt again, but not w/o a stop @ Angela's.

Yelp
Delicious high quality ingredients. Low Country hospitality. Grits are a specialty. Can't wait to try the new menu.

Harriet K.

Yelp
food was overall good! this is a very small family owned joint and the decor is very homey. The hashbrowns were a bit on the salty side and our order took around 30 min to come out which kind of felt like a long time considering the quality of the food. Very basic breakfast food but still tasted yummy though!

Yelp
One of the worst brunch experiences of my life. I came in with my boyfriend and we sat down and ordered within 5 minutes. We then proceeded to wait an hour and a half for our food while tables of people came and left. The waitress continually said our ticket would be the next served -- it was not. All while waiting our eyes were stinging from the smoke in the dining room, what diner has no exhaust in their kitchen. Not sure how much smoke we inhaled over the two hours we were there, but someone needs to call the health inspector. On top of all this, the chef came out to speak to another table and insulted him and his wife for ordering an omelette that was not on the menu. (Don't order a sausage and cheese omelette unless you want to be insulted.) The entire restaurant could hear the chef go back into the kitchen and call the customer an idiot. Food was very mid, just wait in line for one of the other brunch spots on Walnut.

Yelp
We love, love, love this place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Great breakfast meat! If you like grits, this is the place! Wonderful service and friendly people. Best for small groups. Outside dining during nice weather... The only take cash...so bring some!

Yelp
They only accept cash. Poor business decision, we ate elsewhere. Place was empty, makes me question the food too.

Yelp
A family style place. The place has both indoor and outdoor seating. Hostess is super nice. And they got awesome grits and sausage gravy here.

Yelp
We were attending the Shadyside Art Festival, saw this place & decided to try it! So glad we did. I had the Flatbread with Vegetables, it was delicious. They make their own flatbread and use verde sauce, rather than a standard tomato sauce. It was so fresh and yummy, I goobled it down! Their outdoor seating area is super cute. The owners are just lovely! We chatted with them both. Great lunch and we plan to be back soon, to try more!

Yelp
Dining area and food was gross and out of most things on the menu despite being empty. Think I heard microwaves going off in the back.

Mina M.

Yelp
Hmm. Where to begin. The food was nothing special. It was diner food and average diner food at that. Don't get me wrong. I love diner food. Really love it. But this was just ho hum. I was hungry so I ate it. The toast was cold and had way too much oleo/butter all over it. There were 2 other tables occupied when we arrived. We had to wait what seemed a long time to be served. The place looked a jumble. Boxes stacked up. An outdoor heater on its side against the wall. Tables used as wait stations scattered around. And it was smoky inside. Isn't there an exhaust fan? I kept thinking the place had just opened a few days ago And they weren't organized yet. Decor is weird. No theme. Just goofy stuff on the walls. Biggest peeve: blaring 80s music from the kitchen. Hardly breakfast music. Not to mention the cook yelling at the staff in the back when I walked in! Needless to say I won't be going back.

Yelp
Although a delicate little restaurant, this place was tasty. I was cheerful to eat a good waffle today and this was definitely the place to go. I got the berry banana waffle and although a little heavy on the whipped cream it was still enticing and the fruit was amazing and fresh. The environment will definitely make you feel right at home.

Yelp
We tried to grab some brunch but ended up at Angela's after other places were full. Angela's was completely empty and full of smoke, which we should have immediately realized was a red flag. Since we were the only table, we were expecting to be served promptly. After we arrived, another party of the same size arrived, were seated, and were approached for their order before us. We found this strange but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Somehow this table managed to receive their food, eat, and pay before we received our food, a total 45 minute wait. Perhaps this would be okay if the food was decent, but it was mediocre at best. Definitely never get the flatbread, which was dry and greasy. The "Belgian" waffles were anything but. Please stay away and just wait in line for Pamela's or Cafe Moulin

Yelp
Just had a delicious takeout, COVID-safe, brunch from Angela's cafe. We ordered the Berry Banana Waffle and the Middle bite (eggs, hashbrowns, toast). The two highlights of the meal were the super crispy and delicious hash browns and the buttered maple syrup. I'm not a huge syrup fan and this was phenomenal. If you're in the Shadyside area and are looking for delicious breakfast/brunch food, I highly recommend giving Angela's a try.

Megan V.

Yelp
Been meaning to check Angela's out for a while now, and finally got the chance today. The coffee was excellent and my strawberry waffle was one of the best breakfasts I've had in Pittsburgh. The environment is quiet and relaxed and the owners are welcoming and kind. Highly recommend you check this place out.

Yelp
Super cute brand new, locally owned cafe with outdoor seating or socially distanced indoor tables. The owner Debbie was so sweet and the Angela's burger was amazing - two patties with melted goat cheese in between. The Avocado banana smoothie was also delicious. Breakfast & Lunch only at this time. Cash-Only. Will definitely be back to try breakfast and their other items .

Paul W.

Yelp
the food was pretty good, the hash browns are above average. breakfast for three was about an hour (sitting down to paying). it's cash only. there's a nearby ATM.

Bruce G.

Yelp
Waffles were good as were the sausages. Placing an order was a bit of a challenge in that the cook offered to make whatever was wanted but the server insisted that the order had to be from the menu. Obviously there is a communication gap that needs resolved. And a bit more attention could be made to declutter what can be seen from the dining area.

Courtney A.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!! We sat outside on the patio, enjoyed the darling environment, and of course, the delicious food. We got the western omelette, a butter syrup waffle, and the hashbrowns. All were fantastic! We will be back :)

Jack M.

Yelp
We walked in about 20 minutes before close and felt bad but were treated with nothing but delight from the staff. Incredibly nice people and nice atmosphere. I had the meat omelette which was phenomenal and my girlfriend had the tomato soup which was so so good. Hopefully will be back soon!

Yelp
Unfortunately the worst brunch place I've been to, and the worst value I've ever seen at a restaurant ever. Intended to go to Pamela's but the line was too long so decided to check out this place, since it was pretty empty. My group ordered the medium bite, Belgian waffle (strawberry), meat omelette, and egg sandwich. Our food took 30+ minutes to come out despite being one of two tables. The food itself was nothing short of disappointing-- the waitress got the omelette order wrong and instead put in an order for the plain omelette, which consisted of a sheet of unflavored egg, along with two slices of grocery store white bread. The egg sandwich was just that-- two pieces of the same bread with scrambled eggs between them, and what looked like a packet of Lay's dumped out. The medium bite was the same deal as the omelette, with eggs your way. All in all, none of these three items cost more than $2 to make, seeing as it was nothing more than grocery store bread and eggs (with no sauce, seasoning, etc), and more than 15 minutes to make. Each of these items cost us about $10. Lastly, the waffle, for $11. Although advertised as a Belgian waffle, this was basically a hotel breakfast waffle with some overly sweet, very artificial tasting strawberry sauce on it. There was no pearl sugar to be found, and the texture was very fluffy, suggesting some kind of batter. (For reference, liege waffles are normally made with a dough and sugar bits throughout, which is what gives them the distinct taste). Overall, very disappointed that I paid $40 and waited 30 minutes for something I could have made myself for $8 in under 15 minutes. Save your time and go elsewhere.

Chris M.

Yelp
This. Place. Is. Fantastic. We walked one morning to Angela's Cafe to try something new for breakfast. We're so glad we did. It's housed in the old Eden (and before that, C-Video) spot on Copeland. It's a cute little place and was warm and cozy. Debbie, Richard and Keith welcomed us and gave us a little info about the menu and how they got the restaurant started. The decaf coffee was absolutely delicious (I usually hate diner coffee - this ain't it!). My husband ordered the middle bite. The over-easy eggs were the best he ever had - really tender. The hash browns were crispy and savory and the bacon nice and crisp. I had the vegetarian omelet with toast. The omelet was perfectly cooked, tender with just the right amount of veggies and in a cute little rectangular shape. The toast was amazing - toast! I don't know how they got it golden brown all over but I'm a fan. The prices are very reasonable and Angela's Cafe is definitely worth the trip.

Khoreia H.

Yelp
Good down to earth nice people making good down to earth comforting breakfast food. Nothing but kindness and love. Looking forward to coming back again and again!

Aimee C.

Yelp
Admittedly I'm a sucker for anyplace outside of the South serving good grits, but these are as good as any you'll get south of the Mason-Dixon. Comes with a side of southern hospitality. My daughter says the waffles are the best too. Delighted to have these folks in the neighborhood!

Jade M.

Yelp
Delicious!! Such a sweet staff too! Ordered the eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast! Coffee is locally brewed and awesome.

Thomas H.

Yelp
I love Angela's Cafe! Everything on the menu is a sure bet. Last time, I had the Juicy Lucy. For the uninitiated, that's a burger with cheese in the middle. As far as I know, they are the only restaurant in Pittsburgh that offers this. Angela's version has goat cheese inside and it's phenomenal!
