The Best Greek Food in Portland and the Surrounding Suburbs | Eater Portland

"This downtown Greek restaurant sits near the waterfront in a small, bright space, though Angelina’s also has a strong cart presence at the Portland Saturday Market downtown. The Bomb.com gyro, wrapped in handmade pita, comes stuffed with a generous portion of seasoned meats — the beef and lamb combo is the move — as well as tangy tzatziki and various vegetables. For those seeking something more vegetarian friendly, Angelina’s falafel is distinct from others found around town, toasted in a waffle iron to give it a mini waffle look."

We came here for quick lunch. There were only few seatings. I believe most people do take outs. I ordered myself the A’s Favourite (lamb and beef mixed wrap). It was so delicious. They put some fresh veggies and feta cheese inside. The portion was quite huge, I can’t finish them all. I had to wait a little long that time, it was busy and I only saw one uncle working. So, be patient.

Google
Amazing must-try in Portland! I had the Garlic Chicken Wrap and it was exactly as yummy as I remember from my vacations in Greece. Prices are very reasonably and the portion sizing is more than sufficient. The restaurant has a lovely little terrace for dining outside and our server, Cameron, was very kind and helpful. 10/10 absolute recommendation

Google
I don’t know what was better, the food or the service! The food was so fresh, flavorful, and had so many different flavors. I had the falafel bowl and my husband had the beef/lamb wrap and they were both the best we have had and we have tried many Greek restaurants! The vibe is super chill and the entire place is immaculate. The staff and chef were so so so kind. We are grateful to have eaten such an incredible meal made with so much love! Thank you!

Google
My bowl for Pride Fest was so good and fresh. I added chicken to a healthy assortment of veggies. So pretty! And they gave me a discount for being a public servant! $10.20.

I’d been craving Greek food for weeks but kept ending up at so-so spots—until I randomly stumbled upon Angelina’s. The Universe delivered! I ordered the Little Bite of Everything—beef, chicken, hummus, pita, falafel, and salad—and I’m pretty sure my stomach died and went straight to food heaven. It was *chef’s kiss*🤌. I ate every bite except the last bits of pita, and only left them because I was stuffed to the gills. Food aside, I have to shout out Cameron, who was working that day. Pure sunshine in human form—so friendly, clearly passionate about making delicious food, and even though it’s more of a fast-casual vibe, he still came outside to check on me as I blissfully devoured my meal. Give Cameron a raise!

Google
Haven't been to the restaurant but they have a food cart right by my apartments on Hayden Island. Hands down the absolute best gyros I've ever had. I showed up literally minutes before they closed and the guy was super nice about it; I fully expected him to tell me it was too late when I realized the time. Even gave me some extra sauce! 10/10 food and experience, definitely going to be trying the full restaurant soon!

Google
We have never had such a tasty beef/lamb gyro!!!! The meat was seasoned so interestingly. The pita so soft (they make their own) was stuffed with fresh cucumber, lettuce, onion. Homemade tazaki sauce (really good). The young man behind the counter was so friendly. It's worth the drive downtown. Trust me!!

Google
I searched for the best Gryos in Portland and this little blue spot in the heart of old town PDX didn't disappoint. We had the lamb/beef combo and I'd say this gyro is the best I've had in Portland proper. I gave the atmosphere 4 stars because of all the neighborhood, it's a damn shame our government has let this beautiful city fall so far.
google avatar

Ciera B.

Yelp
I came here today with my friend Angie while we are in the area for the PDX Marathon. I did not get the gentleman's name who was helping us at the counter but he was so kind and helpful. The food came out quickly and was hot and beyond flavorful! We both got the beef/lamb wrap and boy oh boy it was delicious! I cannot say enough great things about this place! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Oh em gee. Adorable quaint spot tucked away in the cutest little alley in down town portland. I didnt even mean to go here i stumble across it, like finding a needle in a haystack.i met a co owner Cameron who was the sweetest most amazing guy! We chatted and talked for like 15 minutes hes such a genuine soul and im greatful to talk to him. He Said him and his partner just recently became part owners of the place. So please go support. Now the food....... I got a beef lamb gyro. It comes with meat options... 2oz, 4oz,6oz. I got the small amount and there was still such a great amount of meat. The flavor of the meat is soooo good, it has that crisp ground the edges while still moist and juicy in the middle. I highly recommend. Its right next to voo doo doughnuts so get a gyro for lunch or dinner then go to voo doo for dessert

Yelp
I grabbed an order from here late night just on a fluke and now I am an addict. That was one of the best damned gyros I have ever had. Perfect grilled chicken, very fresh veg with the extra feta I asked for. Great tzatziki sauce. I fully intend to go here whenever I can and try lots more off the menu. Oh, and... THAT BREAD! Holy hell that bread was clearly made there and there are not enough words to tell you how impressive it truly was.

Yelp
Food: 2 out 5 Had the chicken & falafel bowl to go. I asked & paid for extra veggies and it was the saddest looking thing I've eaten in a while. The falafel was the saving grace of this meal as it was the freshest thing made. The chicken was just some random chicken breast without any seasoning and drench in this "jalapeño yogurt sauce." Environment: 4 out of 5 Fast casual. Across a few bars in Chinatown. Service: 5 out 5 Nice people with good customer service. Overall: I'm sure this place is great for people who are drunk, don't cook for themselves, etc. I've had way more authentic food in a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern grocery store. Glad I opted for their $12 small bowl & didn't commit to more.

Yelp
Wow. The host was over-the-top with service. He must own the place, given how much care he put into explaining our orders, giving suggestions, and providing service. It doesn't hurt that it was just one door down from Voodoo Doughnuts.
google avatar

Kembral C.

Yelp
We tried this place at Portland's Saturday market as their food truck. This was outdoors, there was a long line (which is always a good sign), and we didn't have to wait for a long time to get our food. This was the best Gyro we've had. We ordered a garlic chicken gyro with the jalapeño sauce. It was the bomb doc com!

Yelp
Maybe I was just hungry. Maybe I was downtown Portland and needed to pee. Maybe the smell of the roasting meat lured me in off the street. No matter...this was one of the best and loaded up Gyro wraps of my life. Quick and efficient, the folks at this local gyro eatery got me fed and I was happy to eat! PS...they had a restroom for me. Win/win

Yelp
Added two baklavas to our takeout order this evening and received these rather unappetizing looking literal slivers of dough clumsily rolled up in Saran Wrap. My hands are on the smaller side by the way. This is a diabolical portion at 4 bucks a piece. Anyway, I'm going to spend the next three months showing this photo to everyone I know. Best of luck.

Yelp
This was my first meal in Portland after checking into the hotel I was staying at a couple of blocks down. I visited the storefront tucked inside an alley down Ankeny, right by the Voodoo Donuts (I originally thought I was looking for a food pod). Angelina's was one of the only places open late and we were welcomed immediately by the girl working behind the counter. Service was super friendly and accommodating despite how late it was. My partner and I ordered a lamb/beef bowl and chicken bowl both made spicy. Food was ready within 10 minutes! Overall, the food was good. Admittedly, I thought some sort of carb (rice or pita) would be included with the bowl. The bowl is pretty much the meat over vegetables, mainly cucumbers and onions. I definitely think the tzatziki sauce saved the bowl as the meat itself was just okay. Being one of the only spots open past 10 in the area, I still think it's a solid spot to grab a bite.

Yelp
Ok, just to start off. Food was very good. It happened to a hot day in Portland and for some reason they didn't put their patio umbrellas out. That is my only feedback. We ordered for three around lunch time so the wait was a tad for food to go. No sweat. Worth it. Took to the park block and made short work of it all. Greek fries, beef and lamb gyro, greek salad and a lunch plate. All wonderful tasting, all good. I would in the future call in the food or order on the app so it's ready to pick up.

Lola G.

Yelp
Always a disappointing experience. Ordered a house Greek salad in store to go and the olives were no where to be found. They also failed to include to include the dressing. What's a salad without dressing. Bad customer service, the guy working the night shift on 10/17 is lacking basic customer service skills. He was also is a bad mood and clearly did not want to be there (Still left a tip). For context I visited the downtown Portland location. This is the third time our order is missing items. Do not recommend unless you want an incomplete order or bad customer service.

Rob R.

Yelp
Open late. Actual plants. Not plastic. The people behind the counter were kind and quick. They gave us food in an actual bowl with metal utensils. Got the lamb and beef bowl, wife had the same in a wrap. The food is really good. Solid alternative to other Portland late night. Will be back. My only note would be to warm the color temperature of the lighting so it's a little more inviting.

Matt D.

Yelp
Angelina's is great, Cameron is the goat. Excellent service and gyro it is one of the friendliest shops in Portland. great food and light vibes it's helping revive the old town community, .
google avatar

Kandus J.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed in this place after hearing a few good things about it. We got the vegetarian wrap and it was mainly taziki and hardly any veggies. I wish I woulda got the falafel in hopes that it would have had more stuff on it. The wrap was drowning in sauce and made the wrap so soggy. This was probably one of the most disappointing meals we had while in Portland.

Kimberly N.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Angelina's Greek Gyros! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The gyros are ridiculously good--fresh, flavorful, and that homemade tzatziki sauce is next-level. And the feta fries? Absolutely addicting. Everything always tastes fresh, and you can tell they care about the quality of their food. It's just one of those places you find yourself craving again and again. Definitely a favorite!

Yelp
~ PORTLAND SATURDAY MARKET FOOD TRUCK ~ It's been a routine of ours to walk our dogs to the Portland Saturday Market and order gyros from the Angelina's Greek Gyros food truck which seems to have a permanent place at the Portland Saturday Market. ~ BEST GYROS EVER ~ Hands down, the best gyros in Portland, maybe ever. I don't know what it is about the gyros - it could be the perfectly-seasoned meat, the abundance of sauce and cheese, the warm pita, UGHHHH. I'm drooling just thinking about it. I can't wait to be back again next Saturday!! ~ GET ONE NOW! ~ Just trust me on this. There's always a line in front of the truck, but the service is fast. And the food is always consistent. It's delicious every time.

Brian C.

Yelp
First let me say I LOVE Angelina's gyros, I've been eating here almost weekly for the last 5 years but recently they have a new hire - a bigger chubby white guy, that's all I'll say. But this employee has now ruined 3 of my orders Everytime I go to pick up or place my orders he always acts burdened by orders being placed, I do understand most of the time this dude has been working at the store himself but his attitude is horrible. And worst of all he has messed my order up 3/4 times. I always ask for no onions and greens and they only will end up on there when he makes it. The gyro I got today was so dry it was like biting into cardboard, and it took him almost 20 minutes to make it I love this place but it really sucks when 1 single employee brings the entire restaurant down
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday. Fast, friendly service, food was tasty. The house tzatziki was good, but pretty soupy - which made my "wrap" and my spouse's salad pretty wet. I needed a knife & fork (& A spoon) to finish it. . Would go again, but ask for lighter or thicker sauce.

Yelp
After a very exhausting walk, I just about gave up on finding food in my price range as everywhere I tried to stop for lunch was $20-$30+. I happened to meet one of the staff outside Angelina's, and he was super friendly. I told him I wasn't sure what kind of food I wanted, so I was just looking and would come back later. Well, after checking out another spot and seeing those high prices, I turned right around and went back to Angelina's. The staff member greeted me with open arms and handed me a menu. I decided to get their falafel bowl with their garlic hummus. It took a few minutes to cook, but it was worth it as the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The falafel was topped with hummus, tzaiki, feta, tomatoes, olives, and cucumber. Every bite was so tasty, and it made amazing leftovers. Minus one star for the size of the bowl. Based on the reviews, price, and description, I was expecting a little more size wise. But, the quality of the food was on point. I was hoping to come back during my visit and get a falafel wrap, but they were closed on Sundays.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this experience. Ordered the beef/lamb gyros at their West Linn location at Willamette Garage. The customer service was terrible. The person who waited on us was nasty and rolled his eyes when I requested more tzatziki sauce, which brings me to my next issue. The menu listed tzatziki as one of the ingredients in my gyros. When I asked for more, I was met with an eye roll then handed a tiny cup of ranch dressing out of a bottle. When I questioned him about it he told me that was their tzatziki. If you are going to list tzatziki on the menu, serve tzatziki not ranch dressing. Don't lie to your patrons. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend this establishment.

Yelp
we stopped here for lunch at the saturday market downtown. dare i say it's the best gyro ive ever had! the lamb/beef was perfectly flavored and there was a good amount of it. the pita was the perfect texture. all the topics and the tzatziki sauce rounded out the flavor. definitely recommend stopping by for a quick bite to eat.

Sarah D.

Yelp
Great service and delicious food. The only thing I'd pass on was the metal seating wasn't comfortable.

Mark S.

Yelp
I hope it will be tasty, but very disappointed in the serving size of the Chicken BLT Salad for $15 at the Hayden Island Food truck. Hardly any chicken or greens, but lots of pepperoncinis if that's what you are looking for. Not what I expected from the menu photo. We ordered later in the day, Maybe that's all they had left. I won't order this again but may try something else.

Yelp
Newly opened in Ankeny Alley this Greek spot is superb. For $12-14 you can get a big gyro or bowl - and it's delicious! Really good flavors on the sauce. The owner is very friendly, and her cooks work super hard. The space itself is BEAUTIFUL, with crisp white floors and bright blue walls. This restaurant is super clean and such a bright spot in Ankeny Alley!

Yelp
In search of decent food at the Portland Saturday Market, I found this gem right outside the market. If you are looking for really good food at reasonable prices, then Angelina's is the place. Their service is impeccable and friendly. The ambiance is great for a small location. They also offer outside seating. The gyros are the best I've eaten. I will definitely return for more.

Giselle I.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Good portions. Good value. I had the A's salad with chicken and could not believe the amount of chicken on it. And the chicken is SO tasty! Others with me had the garlic chicken gyro and thoroughly enjoyed them.
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
Dropped by for a late dinner and it's pretty satisfying. A bit bummed that we weren't able to sit down and eat but the takeout was still pretty good. The Bomb.com with combo meat was filled to the brim with lamb/beef shwarma and chicken kabobs. All the meat was nice and flavorful but the chicken was a little dry. Love the toasted pita bread that wrapped around all the overflowing filling. The sauce was light and refreshing, pairing well with the fresh greens. I did find the olive to be a tad salty on top of the pepperoncini tho. All in all, nothing extraordinary but still a good option for portion and quality you get at the price you pay.

K J.

Yelp
Opted for pickup, on a Saturday night, St. Pats weekend, so parking wasn't fun, but that's just FYI, not anything to do with the restaurant. The two staff there tonight were welcoming and helpful, seemed genuinely thankful, cleared up some confusion between what was showing on the app and what was available. I ordered a medium garlic chicken w falafel add on, and the veggie/pita/hummus. All delicious.
google avatar

Cora H.

Yelp
really good food, and such a cute little spot :) the atmosphere is so upbeat and cutesy. definitely recommend

Ashley N.

Yelp
We love this place it has the best Greek food we've found. Today however 3/22 I have to say the service was amazing. The guy was working by himself and he absolutely was working harder then I've ever seen anyone. He was polite and upfront to everyone about wait times. He was a one man show and I honestly was so impressed.

Denise V.

Yelp
Wow! The chicken gyro was absolutely amazing! Great portions, staff was very friendly, & the restaurant was extremely clean & inviting!! I cant wait to go back & try the rest of the menu! Highly recommend!! 10/10!

J E.

Yelp
Great food and great service. Very clean as well. Feta fries with the side of tzatziki were just what I needed after a long day. Lamb/beef pita was tasty too!
google avatar

Jeanette F.

Yelp
After 9 years I still have yet to find a better gyro!!! First found Angelina's at the market. Love this place!
google avatar

Jey R.

Yelp
The best gyro I've ever had In My LIFE! I don't even like gyros too lol I could eat these all damn day tho! Go go go get one NOW! You will not be disappointed! Warning may cause Gyro addiction! The garlic chicken is to die for A's special is probably the gold standard for any gyro ever.
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Succulent gyro meat delivered. Just the right amount of sauce w/o being too drippy. Fresh greens and tasty garlic hummus on the side.
google avatar

Seth P.

Yelp
Absolutely a must try for the best Gyros in the Pacific Northwest. Heard about this gem just a few steps away from Voodoo donuts between third and Second on Ankeny Alley. Portions of the Beef Lamb Gyro sandwich whether you get small medium or large are all plentiful. Also had an order of their yummy delicious waffle falafel. Friendly staff and great service. Highly recommend. Looki forward to going again soon.

Yelp
It's here! And oooooh is it is so good. I loooove you Angie, (Angelina Greek Cuisina) you spoiled me rotten love you too baby! Hate wasting the dripping tzatziki on my chin with a paper napkin ... filling was awesome but the hand grilled pita, oh so num! (OPEN TILL 7PM) I used doordash...uber eats didn't have the location. http://pdxgyros.com/
google avatar

Jude N.

Yelp
Ordered beef & lamb gyro, hummus plate and a baklava. Let me tell you this. The problem with gyro is that, most of the time, even though they're good, they come off really greasy. Either too much oil dripping from the lamb or the pita itself is soaked in oil. This place's gyro is extremely light, with perfect amount of meat and veggies. Also, the pitas are super delicious. I am also very surprised by their hummus. That little bit of herbs and ground pepper on that really make it stand out. Again, perfect to dip it with all kinds of veggies you want. As for the baklava, I would say it is just meh. I can definitely see why this place is so popular.
google avatar

Aysha B.

Yelp
Super nice and personable staff!! With that, I got the Beef & Lamb Gyro and it was one of the better ones I've had!! I recommend going during the Saturday's Market for some great community while eating!

Tim W.

Yelp
They false advertise when claim they are hospitable to customers. The employee got extremely rude with me. Called me a dumbass and said I have less brain cells than the door. I work for Tesla. Elon Musk only hires dumbasses. Unlike the rocket scientists at the gyro shop. The overweight guy with the beard. He was thoroughly upset that I made him get up and walk to the door.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Best Gyros this side of the Mississippi River! If you're in Portland and you want a gyro, I beg you to go try Angelina's!

Ashley S.

Yelp
Don't order from GrubHub from this place they don't make the order correctly. They leave off expensive items and you end up with food you can't eat at $31 bill.
google avatar

Priscilla S.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! This casual spot near the waterfront boasts tasty (and HUGE) Greek salads and some of the best hummus I've ever eaten. I love that they included so many veggies with the hummus. The lengthwise cucumber slices were a big hit, and I loved how generous they were with the feta and kalamata olives. Yum! The falafel waffles are good, but there's a little too much black pepper in the mix. And I hope they'll consider noting on the menu that the gyro meat contains gluten. I was lucky that I happened to mention my gluten intolerance while talking about something completely different, so the cashier was able to warn me! I'm not used to gyro places using gluten as a binder. I also wish they didn't use To-Go packaging for their Dine-In guests. They must waste a LOT of single-use plastic, which feels odd in a city as eco-conscious as Portland. Overall, a great experience! I'm so happy I stumbled across this restaurant!

Erika H.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Great Greek food! Didn't even take pictures because we were so excited to dig in!!! Amazing gyros, bowls, salads, hummus. The chef was so kind to accommodate us to a poultry allergy in the family and made sure there was no cross contamination and even packaged all our meals in separate bags. We were very pleased with our experience!
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Excellent little spot. Great food and friendly service. I went back a second time in the same day! I had the beef/lamb wrap and the garlic chicken wrap. I added jalapeño garlic sauce to each one and they were phenomenal. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kiki M.

Yelp
The chicken gyro filling looked, smelled and tasted like canned tuna. There is nothing on the planet I hate more than canned tuna. Straight into the trash it went. Luckily (or so I thought) I had also ordered the hummus plate to have for lunch tomorrow. Hummus is supposed to be smooth and creamy. This hummus has olives blended in (not mentioned on the menu.) I like olives but the flavor is overpowering and it made the consistency grainy. The cucumbers for dipping are sliced in such a way they bend instead of getting any hummus on them. The baklava was ok, hence the one star.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
I thought I had provided a Yelp review a long time ago. Nevertheless, I will do so now. I think these are the best Gyros I have ever had. The first time I had her gyro was at the Saturday market in Portland. And I've come to her place on the corner when the market was closed. Not only is the food great but so is the owner. Yes, in these crazy COVID-19 times, the riots, and now the fires & smoke - she has preserved. And I have made it a point to go to local businesses. They do have in-dining and take-out. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
Just sad. I ordered delivery from here and received the coldest and driest meal I've ever had. The "large" hummus plate came with 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 carrots sticks, a few diced kalamata olives and slimy cucumber sticks - all sprinkled with feta crumbs. The side of beef and lamb - I don't have anything nice to say about it, so I'll just leave it at that. The falafel waffle is a cool idea but turned to crumbs when you picked it up - Tahziki would have definitely helped but unfortunately the side I ordered and paid for arrived as a side of ranch instead.. Just wrong

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, good sized portions, great taste, and fast service. I ordered two gyro wraps, one for my husband and I, and both were equally tasty! Before heading there don't forget to check out their hours as they close early on some days. This place is close to trains and city transportation. If you're driving, you will have to find a spot on the street and pay the meter.
