Heard great things about this place so my wife and I decided to give it a try for date night on Friday. It exceeded our expectations, as everything was perfect.
First, the food. In a word, everything we had was delicious. We started the meal with the Polpette and eggplant appetizers, which were both excellent. That was followed by their Tomato salad special which was huge. And finally, the main course: Bucatini for my wife and the Saffron Tagliolini alla Chitarra for me. The pasta was melt in your mouth light, and both were bursting with flavor. And the portions of both were sizable and filling. Dessert was a carmelized peach special shared between us.
Second, was the service. Our server/sommelier, Genevieve, was both knowledgeable and attentive. Her cocktail (the House Manhattan) and wine recommendations were spot on. Despite the fact that the restaurant was full, everything was served quickly and we wanted for nothing.
Last, but not least, is the atmosphere. Angeline's is in the historic Delaware Avenue section of Buffalo, so you are surrounded by history. We made our reservations last minute, so all that was available on a Friday night was the newly opened patio. Despite the occasional street noise, we were able to freely converse and enjoy our meal. Next time we intend to eat in the main dining room, which has a great "Cotton Club" jazz club kind of vibe.
Bottom line, yes, Angeline's is pricey, but given the quality and quantity of the food, the service, and the atmosphere, it is worth every cent. This is not the place to go for a quick meal, but if you are looking for a relaxing evening with your significant other, family, or clients, put this restaurant on the top of your list.
Thank you Angeline's, we will be back!
