New Arts District Restaurant Redefines Spanish Cooking in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Working at All 'Angelo on Melrose Avenue was Angelats’s first culinary gig, where she made desserts and found that the precision required to prepare intricate recipes mirrored the rigor of her aerospace training, making the transition from engineer to pastry cook nearly seamless; the restaurant closed in 2009." - Cathy Chaplin

I had my baby shower here recently and the Banquet Hall was beautiful, the Greek salad was amazing and the bread sticks, Pizza, pasta was great! Unfortunately our service was limited.. There was a lack of staff helping with our shower To my understanding we were supposed to have three employees total helping for 70 guest and we only had one employee helping which was the bartender. Bartender was great no complaints on her she was doing her best to accommodate the bar as well the food..There was a noticeable lack of coordination among the management leading to confusion and delays in our service. The two servers were MIA.. resulting in failing to promptly clear tables or refill drinks. Pizzas took a little while to come out after the first round of pizzas. We paid for the dessert package and our cream puffs were frozen, but the cannolis were amazing.. I forgot the one managers name but he did address the problem in a proper way at the end when payment was due.. he was apologetic and was super nice..which was very comforting considering the other manager who was slamming doors and had seemed very irritated towards us..All in all my shower was beautiful and the guest really liked the food and the hall was clean!

I had my baby shower here in September (coming back to review because I forgot to but looking at my photos recently made me want to write this review) I couldn’t have found a better place to have my baby shower. The service, the atmosphere and food were amazing. I have such a great memory thanks to you guys. I even received freshly made cannoli’s as a gift to go. Highly recommend this place!

My husband and I had dinner at Angelo Brothers on 10/24/25. We sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was great and the service was the best. We ate on the lighter side; appetizers and antipasto. We had the breaded cauliflower and toasted ravioli which both were out of this world. The antipasto was sooo good too. Can't say enough about our experience and will definitely be headed back asap! Can't wait to try more!

Google
Went to their banquet hall for a big birthday bash. The service was outstanding. It was a large group of all ages and they accommodated everyone wonderfully. Always someone on hand asking if there was anything needed. Very well organized. The food was typical Italian buffet food, but nice and hot and plentiful. Atmosphere is a bit dated and perhaps a little dingy, but clean. Easy location with plentiful free parking.

First timer at this establishment yesterday. We have been wanting to try their food for over a year and decided before our outing downtown to stop here and enjoy dinner...or so we thought. We got here at 5:30. Walked in and there is a sign stating to ring the bell for service. I rang the bell, made eye contact with multiple servers numerous times and no one acknowledged us. I work customer service and even though I may not be able to assist in the moment I still acknowledge the clients, no one did that for about 5 minutes. Then we had 3 people ask us if we have been helped within 15 seconds. Once seated we were able to place our appetizer order: fried mushrooms, calamari and ravioli. The fried ravioli was pretty good, calamari was decent and the mushrooms were extremely oily/watery. After experiencing subpar appetizers we decided to go light on the entrees and split an order of shrimp alfredo and the NY strip. I requested extra sauce in the Alfredo and the steak to be medium rare. Unsure if I actually received extra sauce and the steak was completely well done. The pasta and shrimp had ZERO flavor. The steak was extremely buttery. The French onion soup and green beans that came with the meals also were extremely flavorless. I doubt we will be returning.

This place is so nice. Right when you walk in, you're greeted with beautiful colors in the lights as well as a beautiful bar. We came to the banquet side for a baby shower. The staff are all so attentive, welcoming, and kind. They know what they are doing here. The food tasted very good, I got the chicken parmigiana. 10/10 Everyone else that ordered around me showed no dismay in their choices. I've lived in Westland most of my life and sad to just now be finding this gem. Will definitely be back to try more dishes and will update! 😊 thank you for your exceptional service.

Was in a mood for some good ole spaghetti and meat balls. Could have used a little more sauce. The meal was filling. I would go again.

Google
So this place is becoming our regular Tuesday spot and I couldn't be happier. The staff is warm and welcoming. Our waitress was obviously a seasoned vet and did her job flawlessly. The atmosphere is fairly quiet with a background of chatter and laughter. The pizza is phenomenal. Crisp outside and soft inside. Topping proportions were perfect. The ranch is house made, creamy, and flavorful. I am already excited for next week. 😁

Thomas M.

Yelp
Great food and great service and the prices are affordable. Tuesday's are half off pizza day too

Yelp
It's been nearly 3 years since we have been here and I was disappointed with the experience. As there was a large party in back it affected service in the main dining room. We arrived just after 2pm on a Sunday and there were 2 other tables sat before us. Our server had one other table but was already flustered. The breadsticks were fried and lacking any flavor, previously they were the best part of the meal. The ranch was different too, extra thick. New policy being enforced regarding drinks, you only get 1 refill before they charge you, but bread is unlimited. My diet coke was flat which makes me think it came out of a 2 liter, and my server overfilled my cup with ice. Food was not great, pasta was mushy and the pizza lacked any real flavor. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Kara M.

Yelp
Really rough day today. We decided to go out for dinner and try to relax. The hostess sat us immediately. Only 3 tables being served. Awesome. A nice slow night, we'll eat good and try to forget about our awful day. Unfortunately we were forgotten about. We saw 3 different servers, NOT one of them approached us after 25 minutes we got up and left. Thanks for making a tough day even worse! Thankfully Texas Roadhouse took care of us down the road.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Angelo Brothers with my dad. We both ordered items from the dinner menu. The portions were large and came with a salad and bread. Take out order was promised in 20 minutes and ready when we arrived. Portions were huge! We could easily make two meals out of each of our dinner servings, which made for very good value. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan, and it was very tasty.cheesy, nice sauce flavor, very well prepared eggplant.

Jeremy C.

Yelp
From the time you enter it feels like home. The service was awesome. The food was amazing. The fire place was pretty cool. Family oriented and just quiet and chill atmosphere.

Kaelyn W.

Yelp
Been going here since I was younger and it is still one of my favorite restaurants. I order the Rigatoni Alla Angelo every time and highly recommend it!! They seem to have gotten more staff which has cut wait time down tremendously too

Yelp
We've eaten here since my childhood in the 70's. After a long hiatus I moved back to the area and have gotten take-away a few times since. Same great food. The lines are long so I'll assume I'm not the only one with this opinion. On a sour note, on my last two orders I became ill within an hour or so of eating. After a few "expulsions" from my tummy I felt better. Since I didn't order meat I wasn't too terribly concerned. It happens. I'll just stay away from the eggplant. Seriously, eat there.

Yelp
Classic Detroit old school Italian. It's been around since the 50s and that's a good thing. Dean Martin tunes, traditional dishes. No real surprises but nothing that is not tried and true. Very tasty. Surprised I've never visited. We went on a Saturday for early dinner. There was a wedding type party in the banquet room. The dining rooms were sparsely populated and our poor waiter ( Arturo? Wish I could remember his name because he was awesome ) was the victim of short staffing. He was amazing though. He got the ancillary staff hustling and he was on the ball himself. We had a longer dinner but we never wanted for a thing. We had some toasted ravioli for an app which were quite happy. A little kick from some jalapeno made them perfect. Perfectly cooked too. We chose salads to start. I preferred my Italian dressing to his ranch but both were good. He had a super tender and juicy NY Strip with a side of spaghetti and liked it so much he ate the whole thing. I had fork tender chicken piccata with so many chunks of mushrooms in a fantastic lemony sauce. I also had the terrific spaghetti side. I'm picky about red sauce but I really liked it here. They bring you a ginormous bread basket brimming with hot, fresh rolls too. We demolished it. I had leftovers because portions here are super generous too. We took spaghetti and angel hair with sausage to my parents. Both were thrilled. Total nostalgia as both have visited over the years. My mom wants a bottle of their blue cheese dressing and my dad raved over the minestrone. We are already planning to return.

Yelp
I've been eating here since I was a child. Since moving away, I've made it a point to grab carryout from Angelo Brothers when in town. Amazing pizza with such a great crust flavor. You're losing if you don't get some of their bread baskets. A carb-lover's dream. Thank you for remaining amazing for so long!

Yelp
Food was absolutely phenomenal. 10/10. But the service was incredibly slow. Waited by the door just to be sat for over 10 minutes. After all the food was served, to get a box was just a waiting game. When we got our bill, that was written out (no computer input) it was messy. After we gave the waitress our credit cards, it took her over 5 mins just to bring it back... Our waitress was extremely nice but it was just too slow. Personally, sitting in a restaurant for almost 3 hours is not ideal. I would probably do carry out here again, not eat inside.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Umm, the pasta way overcooked and the sauce tastes bad. I would've been better off eating raviolis.. The salad didn't even have seasoning, just a a salad. That was the best part though

Gail E D.

Yelp
I was at a class reunion as I lived in Dearborn eons ago. It was great service. The food was really good. It was a big room and was comfortable environment.

Yelp
My son wanted Italian for his bday so we decided to check this place out. We ordered the lasagna and ravioli. He absolutely loved the ravioli, I gave it a taste the flavor of the sauce was so good. As well as the sauce in my lasagna, very tasty. Was a little disappointed with the texture of the noodle in my lasagna, but very good. The soup and salad was very good. The breadsticks were extremely hot, fresh, and flavorful. Our waitress brought my son a cannoli on the house with the candle in saying happy birthday. The cannoli was mouthwatering. Our waitress was very nice and charismatic. The restaurant had that old school Italian vibe that we love. We will be back what an amazing time.

Jim C.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a good Italian meal and chose Angelos because of its extensive menu. We could remember that we had eaten at the restaurant a couple of times and wondered to each other why we waited for more than a year to return. When we arrived, we waited by the sign saying "Please wait to be seated" noting maybe one-quarter of the tables available had parties, so we felt assured we'd get a seat. We waited ten minutes without being acknowledged so we walked to the end of the bar where a waitress was getting soft drinks. "You're going to have to wait, folks, I'm the only one here" was how we were greeted. Since there wasn't another waitress to share the service and most of the tables were empty, I asked, "Can we sit down then?" "No!" was the answer. If we had to stand and wait until the surly waitress was ready to seat us, we decided to leave. While we searched for another place to take our business we remembered that the last time we were there, though we got a seat, the server was just as surly, that time because she had more work since the owner had passed away recently. I'd still recommend the menu, but only if you want the meal served in an atmosphere by an unpleasant waitress who takes out her frustrations on the customers.

Yelp
Angelo Brothers is like visiting an old friend. Warm and friendly from the interior to the friendly and attentive staff. The food never disappoints.

Yelp
Imma still give it high reviews cause your pasta is the best but you are no longer on door dash and I have not had your food because of this since my Original post

Yelp
Came in for a birthday celebration. This was our second time, first was wonderful. This trip not so much. Unfortunately they were short staffed, everything toook a very long time. Our waitress was very nice and I felt bad as she apologized and said they had two people walk out and only one cook. Food was okay, everyone ordered lasagna and they ran out so they all had to reorder. Not an ideal birthday for me. They did adjust the checks a bit for the issue. Restaurant could use a bit of an update but it was fine overall, just a bit too dark.

Woody C.

Yelp
We ate there april 13th 2024 and were very pleased with the food and service, it was very busy but the waitresses kept up. They were all pleasant and served us with a smile. WE plan on returning and try their pizza. Nice evening out

ginger l.

Yelp
We have had many family dinners and celebrations at Angelo brothers Always good food and service. Their antipasto salad and toasted ravioli are what I look forward to, as well as the pizza. They are a fixture and we hope to have many more family get togethers there in the future !

jo a.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat. We are never disappointed with the food or the staff. Consistency is the key to happy customers and that's what they deliver, time after time!

Yelp
Excellent food, service, great specials on dine in during the week. Adding to our dinner rotation!

Yelp
Best Alfredo I've ever had 10/10 My family and I always love coming here when we get together. They are very accommodating, plus their food is amazing!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Angelo brothers, you took care of us during a stressful plan! The moments leading up to our big day, you had every question answered. The food was so good, everyone will remember our day just because of your dinner. The ham wasn't too salty and was able to chew with no struggle. My mother hates fish and had two pieces!!! And the beef roast, oh man. So good!!!! Definitely customers for life!!!

Karen M.

Yelp
An excellent choice for family dinner! The service is great and staff is very nice. The food is delicious, too. Eat in or pick up, same deliciousness. We've been dining here since 1965 and have never had a bad experience. I couldn't recommend Angelo's more.

Yelp
Everyone who orered a red sauce dish at the table was satisfied. I ordered the Chicken Picatta. First, the garlic rolls were a bit tough and chewey. I recommend ordering a sliced bread basket if they have one. The Chicken Picatta was bland and had no white butter wine sauce, capers or garlic flavors. It was swimming (or should I say), soaking in a non olive.oil type oil at almost a half an inch of the stuff. There were vestages of a meager looking sauce that sank to the bottom of the oil and was flavorless. The mushrooms were fresh but gained no respect from its surroundings. The chicken was as suspected, thin cuts of sliced chicken and were equally ignored from any picatta flavor or tangeness of any acid or lemon. Capers would have helped somewhat bit they too were also missing in action. I recommend ordering something else on the menu. Angelo would not be singing after seeing this dish. Send the cook back to school or at least, read a recipe for the basic concept.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Best place to have a party best prices and best food around. Angelo's will always be my favorite

Sharon L.

Yelp
We were looking forward to a nice Italian dinner out. What we got was slow service, over cheesed and under seasoned food. The lasagna was bland, covered in globs of cheesey goo and grease. The baci pasta, that's advertised as 'stuffed with ricotta and fontena cheese with nutmeg', tasted like bland pasta and ricotta, no nutmeg or any other seasoning. My older daughter got lemon chicken with mushrooms and it was swimming in oil and also unseasoned. My husband's 'New York strip' was thin and grey. If Mc Donalds had steak, that's what it would be. None of the other meals were good, but those were the worst. Don't waste your money! Chef Boyardee has more flavor!

Schurig J.

Yelp
Food lacked flavor in every one of our 3 meals. So much sauce that was not convincingly anything more than water. Chicken was rubbery and inedible. Unimpressive. Rolls were ok.

Zaria m.

Yelp
It was pretty good! We were a very large party and our waitress was amazing. She was even the only taking tables, but the food was pretty good. I ordered the french onion soup which was bad. I only wised that it had a little bit more onions and seasoning but it was still pretty good. My lemonade was a little watery but the fried mushrooms were a hit!!! try them!!! The warm bread basket was a winner though! thank you for the excellent service
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
Always the best food. Even now with the covid crap. They gave us a free loaf their homemade Italian bread, sooo good. Chicken piccata is the best ! We have been going here for 20 years and will always make the 30 minute drive.
google avatar

Chelsea T.

Yelp
During this lockdown it's been hard to find restaurants that will put in a good effort with your order. We ordered a large pizza, gnocchi dinner with bread, and a chicken tenders kids meals. So happy. All the food was phenomenal, pizza has the best crust/bread I've had in a while. Gnocchi was excellent, and my kids loved the chicken tenders. Gave us a fresh loaf of bread and said it's free with every purchase during the lock down. 5 star service, 4 stars on the food, will definitely be back!

Angie F.

Yelp
Great food and service they have a banquet room for parties love pizza's great atmosphere

Yelp
6/27/2018 Update - This once nice place has been been going down hill for some time. Food prices are way up, but food quality, restaurant condition, and service are way down. I dropped my 5 star rating to a barely 2 star rating as a result. Lights in the back dining area over tables were out - could barely read menu and eating in near dark was unenjoyable. Thirty minutes after eating salad waiting for the next course was way too long and restaurant was barely 20% full. The $16 veal Parmesan I ordered came out tasting burned - the sauce was burned and bitter as was the veal which tasted bad. I sent it back and and ordered eggplant. The $3.25 side of spaghetti is tiny and if you want angel hair instead of spaghetti it is another $1 making it $4.25 for a tiny side of pasta - surprised as it less than 1/4 of the size of the serving I placed a picture on yelp years ago - total ripoff. I had to pull my picture of this side because it didn't represent the current portion at all. Soda is now $3.16 which is a little high too for the area. Our waiter was new and he tried hard so +1. Seems like the new staff are all very young and friendly, but not well trained for service. The cooks might be new too which could explain the poor food quality. My family was already done with dinner when my eggplant came so I had it packed up to go. I had a salad and tiny side of pasta for dinner that I spent $55 on. Manager was nice and gave us a couple of cannolis that the kids enjoyed so +1. We had a few so-so recent experiences here so it hard to say this, but after 20+ years of going here it is time to take this place completely off my go to list as it has really gone this far down hill. I am not willing to risk coming here and throwing $60+ down the drain again. There are much better Italian places in the area for the same money or less that will provide a much better dining experience so this place is now thumbs down not recommended.
google avatar

Erika R.

Yelp
Best Italian I've ever had in my life. (Disclaimer: I've never been to Italy... but if it's anything like this place, I'll be in heaven!) Bread, house made Italian dressing, lasagna with HOME MADE NOODZ.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Love the pasta and sauces. Only suggestions for improvement: please add pesto and Caesar salad to the menu. Also, add more garlic to bread.
google avatar

Emmy H.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this gem. The decor is reminiscent of the old world Famiglia style restaurants. Every time we visit, the same booth is reserved with its over hanging lamp shut off. (I'm still waiting for Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra to walk right in...) It has become my favorite local Italian place. Everyone is so friendly. We have been very pleased with the various dishes we've tasted. And don't forget to order dessert! Tiramisu and Homemade cannolis are superb. Yep, I'm going back!

Glenn H.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The lasagna was incredible. Highly recommend. We'll be back.

Yelp
Attempted to order a carry out for Mother's Day. After calling multiple times and getting a busy signal, we finally got through - only to be asked to hold and promptly be hung up on. Tried calling back several times - received a busy signal several times and got through on two more occasions only to be hung up on again. We decided to physically go to the restaurant - it was 6pm - we were told they had all the orders they "felt like doing "for the evening and would not be taking any additional orders for today. We won't be back.

Yelp
Best Italian food I've ever had! We've going here for years. The fettuccine alfredo is my favorite and the kids love the pizza. Great food and excellent service! Dining in or carry out, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Daron D.

Yelp
A solid place all the way around. First you have the bread here, which is good, similar to Antonio's (but Antonio's is about 3 notches better), then you have the side salad which is nothing but salad mix out of dole salad bag. For my starter here i had the wing dings, which taste great (your typical coney island wing, which i love by the way). For my meal i had Italian combo, which was lasagna (pretty good), Ravioli (best thing here), cannelloni* (OK, nothing special) ad the mostacollli* (OK, better than the cannelloni*). Would i come here again, sure why not. *- questionable spelling on my part.

Yelp
Everything was real good and hot and made sure we had all our items I do enjoy dining inside but that will happen when we have more time and things are looking better

Michael H.

Yelp
This place is not struggling because of covid. This place is struggling because of the terrible service, dilapidated interior and food that makes Olive Garden look like Tuscany. They are selling overpriced, undercooked "Italian" food. The server was coughing up and down the whole dining room. Not like a "oh I have a tickle in my through cough" more like a "I just got back from chain smoking a pack of Virginia slims in the kitchen" cough. She took 30 minutes to take our order. Then when I gave her my order of Chicken Parm she said meh I don't like that dish, you should get pizza because my son is the pizza chef........... She clearly didn't put the order in right away because we then waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food. My wife's food was correct, but my chicken parm magically turned into a Fettuccine Alfredo And then when I told her that's not what I ordered she offered to get it replaced with the chicken parm " it will only take like 3 minutes" If it only takes 3 minutes why did we wait an hour and 20 minutes..... I told her no I am okay, I don't want the Alfredo and I don't want to wait. In which she replies "okay, well you did eat enough already" Okay, I had some bread and we split a caprese salad.. that had virtually no cheese. Couldn't believe how rude that was. I love supporting local places. Mom and pop shops. But not here, never again. This restaurant is like the family dog that has lived to be 22 years old. It's miserable and it needs to be put down at this point....

Yelp
My husband and I were in town visiting family and while here, we ventured out for some Italian food. We didn't want to drive really far for Olive Garden, so we drove up Ford Road and found Angelo Brothers. Talk about a great place to eat!! There wasn't much of a wait for a Saturday night, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered an appetizer and it came out rather quickly. We had the stuffed mushrooms and they were great. The portion sizes are out of this world-- HUGE!! My husband ordered the chicken picatta and I had the Italian sampler plate (ravioli, lasagna, and manacotti). We should have just shared an entree because there was so much food!! The food was really good-- very flavorful and not too much garlic. We were impressed with the food. As another reviewer said, the interior definitely needs a make-over but other than that, it was a wonderful experience. We'll come back when we're in town again!!

Yelp
Great pizza. I've been going therE for 40 years. All the food is fantastic. Sometimes the service is a littLe slow but other wise a good place

Yelp
We had my dad's 80th birthday in the banquet room at Angelo Brothers today. The party turned out perfectly. We chose Angelo Brothers because we grew up in the area. My parents took us there quite often. I remember it as really good pizza and easy, family environment. Today my family was treated like family by owners of Angelo Brothers. The food and service were outstanding. Everyone was efficient and friendly. I forgot candles for the cake and Delia (granddaughter of the founder!) walked next door and bought candles for me for my dad's cake. I had mentioned I forgot candles and she was on her way to get them before it occurred to me to ask. I haven't been to Angelo Brothers in years but I will be back soon.

Yelp
VERY slow service! Almost 4 hours for dinner! We were a large party BUT made reservations way in advance. They gave us 2 servers but the servers were the issue. They never asked about refills and if you asked for a side of dressing, extra napkins or refill it took forever! The servers gave out different sizes for the side salads yet they were all the same price. We all received our dinners very spaced out probably because they forgot to enter some dishes but other dishes came out cold. I will not go back to this facility it was such a waste of time for average food
google avatar

Jo J.

Yelp
The 4 star rating is because of how good their food is. It's delicious whether you're eating in, taking out or are here for the banquet style menu. I literally dream about their fresh bread, their ranch dressing and the cannelloni. This place is a local staple and while you don't see the parking lot ever too crowded, don't let that sway you either. The place has looked the same as long as I can remember and some of it shows. Some of the seats in the booths need replacing and the decor is a little outdated, but the food is solid. I recommend carrying out because service can get to be a bit slow.

Yelp
These fine folk hosted and catered my father-in-laws wake. I don't want to go into details about a subject so private, but I do wish to say that I am amazed at how well Kathy, one of the proprietors if I am not mistaken, handled our needs. Thank you so much for everything you all did to help make the best of a bleak day. Quality food, fantastic service, and amazing management. This is the best Old Style Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria you will find anywhere near Westland!
