Dining in the Suburbs: Where to Eat in Antioch | Eater Nashville

"For those searching for real New York-style pizza, Angelo’s is a gem. It’s been in Nashville since 1976 and is probably one of the more popular Antioch dining establishments, yet it still flies relatively under the radar in the greater Nashville dining scene. Here, find pizza by the slice, full size pizzas, calzones, pasta, subs, and more. Don’t miss their daily all-you-can-eat buffet." - Kristy Lucero

Absolutely delicious! I stopped by Angelo’s Picnic Pizza and tried their chicken wings along with the new salad, and everything was perfect. The wings were hot, crispy, and full of flavor — some of the best I’ve had in Nashville-symrna The new salad was super fresh and had the perfect balance of ingredients. You can tell they care about quality. The staff was friendly and the place had a great vibe. Definitely coming back again. Highly recommended!

You must stop by and try the pizzas This 💯 is not like papa John or Pizza Hut Little more $$ but Way better ! They have a place out side you can sit or inside I had the Joey special deep dish Medium definitely can share with someone From the crispy crust, rich sauce, and toppings that taste so fresh. This will be my go-to order next time Delicious ! Oh don’t forget to try the gelato ice cream it’s a must!

They’ve truly recreated the same taste I experienced in Italy! The crust, the fresh ingredients, and that green sauce — everything was delicious. The place is clean, and the staff are friendly and attentive. This experience brought back memories of Italy. Huge thanks to the team — I’ll definitely be back!

The Picnic Special Pizza is a flavor-packed masterpiece — crispy crust, rich sauce, and toppings that taste so fresh. It’s become my go-to order every time. Highly recommend Angelo’s for anyone craving real, quality pizza!”

Absolutely love this place! The pizza is always hot, cheesy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they use quality ingredients. And the wings? Easily some of the best I’ve had—crispy, saucy, and just the right amount of heat. Great spot to grab food with friends or take it to go. Never disappoints!

Google
Small local pizza place with carry out and sit-down options. We have been looking for an alternative pizza place lately and gave this place a try. We have tried a number of menu items from appetizer to desserts over a couple of weeks. The wings and meatballs left the best impression. Pizza is what we would call NY style but much less greasy (probably much more mozzarella than provolone). The only real complaint is that my wife was not happy with the red sauce that came on the side for her calzone and on the pizza. It was OK to me, but we are often on different flavor scales. We both found the crust nice if plain. We both agree the toppings were scarce on the pizza. We ordered a 2 topping pie and some pieces only had 1 topping. Overall this is a place worth trying but we will probably be back twice a year.

Yelp
I have lived near Angelo's Picnic Pizza for three years. I began ordering when my car was in the shop. I thought I had a Sicilian pizza in my life...but at age 60, I realized I never had a Sicilian pizza like Angelo's Picnic Pizza. Not only is the food EXCELLENT, but the reliable staff is very friendly. I am grateful for Angelos. Even though I have my car back, I have to order Regularly from Angelo's Picnic Pizza! It is not solely for the purpose of convenience, but so happens that the BEST pizza is close to my home (Smyrna). Near the corner of Hazelwood Dr. & Old Nashville Highway.

Yelp
Never ordered from here til today. Delivery was on time and food was warm and really good. We had the xtra large pick your on. We picked pepperoni, mushrooms & black olives. Also ordered a salad. Pricey but good

Yelp
Legit Italian pizza and garlic knots. The garlic knots are a must. Great service and always accurate orders, whether it's dine-in, carry out or delivery. Ambiance is cute, just a quaint little place.

Yelp
Wonderful pizza for TN. I will ask for some char on our pepperoni pizza next visit. In the land of no real Connecticut style pizza, these guys are the best. We found it better than the other notable spots, better then Pinky Ring, NY Pie, Five Points, Sal's and Nicky's. Good sauce, good dough and one of the better cheese in quality and portion. No sugar in dough or sauce that we could taste which we find great. Their slices are humungous, like you'd expect in NYC! The full pies are a more expensive but worth the extra $$! Place is clean and service is good. We have only gotten takeout though.

Yelp
This place rocks!! We found our new pizza place in town. The garlic knots were amazing and our pizza didn't disappoint one bit. Everything tasted great and driving home with the pizza, it took every bit of self discipline that I had to not pull over and steal a slice. Luckily for my family, my intrusive thoughts didn't win. This is a great little family run pizza shop and I'd encourage everyone to give it a shot. It's located in a large shopping plaza so there's plenty of parking and some shops nearby to checkout while you wait for your pizza.

Yelp
We went for a delish lunch! Had a XL pizza for $25 (Tuesday special) and garlic knots. Everything was delish and fed me and the hubs for 3 meals. Vegetables on the pizza were perfect. Service was fast and personal. The restaurant was perfect for a picnic style pizza, clean, and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Giving Angelo's a 4 star because the restaurant was a nice little spot, and the staff was very nice. The food reflects more of a score of 3 to me. I ordered 2 slices of cheese and pep. The good: dough was fluffy and crispy, cooked well and tasted well. The not so good: too much sauce, sauce was too sweet, and the ingredients at just don't seem fresh or of the best quality. If you're in the area it's worth it for a slice, it just wasn't for me.

Yelp
Stopped in as we were meeting my wife's cousin and he had suggested this place if we liked pizza, they have a decent menu with plenty of options, you can even get Keto and Vegetarian meals which we thought was pretty cool. Service was great and the staff was friendly and very accommodating, there was 6 of us total, me, my wife and our twin 8 year old boys, 17 year old daughter and her cousin. We ordered a medium Pepperoni pizza and then the Supreme Special which was a meat lovers pizza and added roasted garlic, we also order garlic knots and a house salad for our daughter with chicken and bacon added. The restaurant was clean and the bathrooms were also very clean which is always a good sign, the pizzas were delicious and loved the crispy crust, the garlic knots were true garlic bread knots with pesto and garlic served with marinara sauce. We all enjoyed the pizza and service very much, it was great also having pizza that wasn't smothered in sauce. All around very good and worth trying, they also do pizza by the slice and have other menu options and lots of dessert choices. Would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
I finally got to have Picnic Pizza again for the first time since they moved to Smyrna It is definitely worth the drive. The good news is the pizza is still as amazing as ever!!! It was well lit, clean and the employees were very friendly and attentive There have been some changes though that I wasn't expecting There is no longer pasta on the menu And the house salad has changed Now it only comes with tomato and the incredible shredded mozzarella cheese, I had to add all the toppings that previously came on it But it is twice the size as it was before The mushrooms on the salad are canned mushrooms, they used to put fresh mushrooms on the salad, canned mushrooms on the pizza Now canned mushrooms are on both And sadly the Italian salad dressing they used to make isnt available anymore I will still be back! I still love it! I'm happy it only changed a little And they are still around and still making amazing pizza

Yelp
Angelo's Picnic Pizza is a great little place in Smyrna...they have a sweet lunch deal of two one-topping slices and a fountain drink for $9. This is the pizza shop that used to be in the Hickory Hollow Mall...dined there many times back "in the day". The slices are huge and very good. I decided on plain cheese and there was nothing plain about these slices. The crust was crispy, light sauce but had good flavor, and the cheese tasted fresh. If you are looking for a slice you can fold like NY street slices, here you go. Easy to fold and they hold up, one slice I actually folded it four times! Great food and the customer service was exceptional. Jacqueline behind the counter is awesome...a bright smile and a wonderful personality. She lights the place up!

Yelp
Great new local pizza place with simple decor. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We started with the delicious garlic knots with marinara, which were clearly homemade. I ordered one pepperoni and one sausage, each by the slice. The photos do not do it justice, these slices were huge. This may be the best pizza I've had in Nashville to date. All of the food was fresh, authentic, and made with care. Finally, their prices just can't be beat! A great bargain for the amount of food you get. This will be our new go to pizza place in the area! Can't wait to come back to try that calzone.

Yelp
These people didn't have their websites updated and made me the wrong pizza. This pizza was $60 and they were not willing to do anything to make it right. Angelo used to not be this way.

Mario M.

Yelp
Well honestly this would be the second time this happens. First getting two slices of pizza is always a 20 minute wait. Never fails to call ahead and still have to wait for them to heat up the pizza slices " not even a whole pie only to add a couple of sprinkles of cheese. To top it off today I called knowing I'll be waiting on it still hoping that it was done. But to my surprise they had burnt the both pieces of pizza and didn't offer any type anything. Just a sorry and a smile and a 20 minute wait not getting any more food from the place. Pizza is mediocre at best.

Cary M.

Yelp
Good food. Good price. Great service. I look forward to trying more of their food soon.

Yelp
Service is always great. Most of the time the food is good. The dough could be a little bit more well done

Yelp
We ordered a large pepperoni pizza, garlic knots and some desserts. Everything was delicious, highly recommend this place. Food is amazing and place is inviting and clean. Will definitely be back in the future next time I am in Tennessee.

Yelp
Unlike my many reviews where I carefully dissect the flavor profiles of each unique dish, I am going to address it in generalities and give you an insight to the history of this place. It is rated one of the 100 best pizzas according to some rating service. I don't care because I like the pizza. I came from the NYC area and this is the most genuine I've had. This restaurant used be located in Antioch and admittedly, was not a very inviting ambiance. This new location is wonderful. Nice decor inside, but outside they have a great patio for outside dining. It was too hot to enjoy it today. As far as history goes, you need to know there are several pizza restaurants in the Nashville area that are tied to the same family. These stores have moved around and I'm not going to try to describe the web of activity. Don't try to find these stores because they may not be there. We found them in Brentwood, and learned they had locations in Spring Hill, Antioch, Murfreesboro, and two locations in Nashville. What I am saying is that they all serve(d) the same great NYC pizza. Go there. They have pizza by the slice, and you need to experience it. Have a beer. Sit outside if weather permits. Sadly, I will not be going here often, because the family has a store closer by in Murfreesboro. It is called Sal's on Thompson Lane.

Yelp
I have loved these guys for 12 years! I am so happy they are closer to us in Smyrna. The Cadillac is our families favorite!!!!!

Yelp
Pizza was ok, kinda pricey for what it was good selection of toppings was ready on time we got take out

Yelp
Social distancing friendly-popular take out location also. My first visit here was almost two months ago. My wife & I were looking for a place to meet another couple outside where social distancing was easy. Angelos has a little patio where this is easily doable & it never seems packed (Murfreesboro pike traffic probably has something to do with that as it's loud with people racing down the street). I tried the picnic pizza the first time I was there and they were out of sundried tomatoes but it was still very good. I will say the huge crowns of broccoli on the pizza probably would put most people off but I thought it was different & a very good pizza in terms of dough, sauce, & quality of ingredients. Another patron was taking a to go order & stopped by the fence & told us about the double stuffed pizza they have there and that we have to get it next time. That's exactly what we did this second time. Again we had the entire patio to ourselves for about 2 hours on a Friday evening. The pizza was hands down one of the best I've had around town. For reference two of my favorite pizza places in Nashville are Bella Napoli & Two Boots pizza. The XL was large enough for 4 adults to share and have slices left over. It's a huge pizza. It's basically a supreme pizza on the bottom with a pepperoni on top. A lot of cheese & a ton of flavor. I also highly recommend the regular calzone as it's damn good by itself with some marina on the side. Staff is very nice considering the added pressure to stay safe & stay open. Order at the counter & take away or take it outside right now, which is appropriate. Will be back!

Yelp
Always fresh and the staff is always very kind and attentive. It's dangerous that there's such a good pizza-by-the-slice option so close to me!

John H.

Yelp
Always good quality pizza. I love it. Happy, fast service. Real old school pizza place.

Lynn A.

Yelp
First time visiting Smyrna location. Overall good experience. My biggest complaint - ordered chicken pesto pizza. I asked to remove tomatoes & replace with spinach. I was expecting a larger size pizza because I paid $29 and some change. The pizza was small compared to the price. I think I would have been better off purchasing by the slice. I realized later she didn't provide me with a receipt, so I'm not sure of the size. They didn't bring plates when pizza was bought to the table. I'm not sure if available. The chicken pesto was running over with oil & pesto. This is a much smaller location than Antioch. You have to get your own napkins. They did have peppers on the tables. Nice atmosphere. Basic patio tables & chairs... no pillows for more comfort. Basic set up, nothing fancy. Appears charging a lot for the pizza. I don't think mushrooms were fresh mushrooms which was a little disappointing. The crust was very good. I would definitely go back & also recommend. I will choose a different pizza as well. $27.50 pizza I ate all by myself in one day... not big enough for the price.

Yelp
I have enjoyed Angelo's for years. The pizza is delicious. However, that is not why I drive across town to their new ĝlocation. I choose Angelo's over every other pizza restaurant because the guy who makes the pizzas wears gloves, he washes his hands, and is very sanitary. I feel like every cook or any person handling food needs gloves on while touching or preparing it.

Yelp
Has anyone ever had authentic New York pizza from New York or Italy because if they did, you would never write this place higher than a one aside from being quality portion size small and price is ridiculously high I mean obscene we're talking New York City traffic tourist high. the nerve and of this restaurant to charge these prices is sickening. Do not waste your money.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend and I had to come try it out. I have already been here twice while I write this. The first visit, me and my son had a slice each. The pizza was very good. Its like a neighborhood pizza joint in NY/NJ. On my second visit the owner was working the ovens and I overheard him, his father came here in the 70's and the restaurant has been here since then. The pizza was very good. Its already become a local favorite. The pricing is fair for what you get. They have a lot of different size options.
google avatar

Sheri K.

Yelp
Everything is excellent as far as food goes and the service is outstanding. The place itself is very clean and comfortable. The slices are large and very filling and the prices are reasonable. Best pizza in TN so far!
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Glad these guys just opened up, we need some great za in the neighborhood! Old school, very good

Yelp
Holy moly! The cashier was extremely friendly and sweet. The garlic knots are SPECTACULAR! The white pizza was delicious. Last but not least the cannoli was yummy. Everything was fresh and absolutely amazing! I absolutely recommend to anyone that wants great food and a chill atmosphere!

Stephanie E.

Yelp
New York style pizza. We ordered a veggie slice and a pepperoni slice along with an order of garlic knots. The slices were about two slices worth each. The veggies weren't cooked, but the pizza itself was delicious. The garlic knots were crispy and hot. We will go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I was wanting a pizza and didn't want to go back out again especially in the rain. I have many pizza places close by but wanted to try someplace different. I was not disappointed!! I ordered the Scilian Style with pineapple and ham. Soo cheesey as well. Will order again from them. The delivery service was spot on. Got a call and text letting me know it arrived.

Nick R.

Yelp
Now just make a good Philly cheesesteak and some with some decent bread. Everything was wonderful

Yelp
For over 20 years, this has been our favorite pizza place. Nothing fancy or "cutting edge", just simply awesome! Jon H

Yelp
Great pizza reminds me of my wife home state of NY. I took my 84 year old Mother-in-law here to eat. She hasn't been home in Staten Island NY in 20 year. After just a few bites she started to cry saying she hadn't had real pizza since leaving NY. See menu

Kevin S.

Yelp
Service was horrible. Ordered 2 pieces of pizza and it took 22 min to get it. Wouldn't recommend place if you are just wanting to eat in a reasonable amount of time.
google avatar

matt s.

Yelp
The place is clean and the servers were friendly. The buffet from 11-2 is small but relatively fresh, and was $15 with a dollar tip. The choices at 130pm were very limited. Slices are large and foldable, and a little bit browned on the bottom. Toppings are ok. There is a lasagna with lots of cheese. I think it was spinach. It was filling and tasted ok. There were hot chicken legs. Good spicy flavor but the breading was mush. Not good. The salad bar had bagged lettuce and pizza-style toppings, and two dressings. It is a bad time of year for fresh tomatoes. This place is good for a hungry middle school or small high school team. Kudos for how clean and pleasant the inside is. The food just misses in almost every category. Ideas: Wonderful spicy chicken legs can't be kept in a steamer tray. Must be Cooked much hotter to make the outside crisp. The pizza crust is very good. So is the cheese. But the sauce is sugary and thin. Same for the spaghetti
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Best NY Style pizza I've found in Nashville! By far!! Yummy!!!!! Highly recommended!!

Lisa C.

Yelp
Omg, this place is soooooo expensive!!! Tell me how a 12 inch veggie pizza is $25.50??!?!???
google avatar

Asia A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! Fresh ingredients, great staff, clean and friendly environment. I am a complete fan! If you're looking for a place to get a fresh pizza (yes, you can see them rolling the dough), stop in here! You won't regret it.
google avatar

Shub N.

Yelp
This is one of the two pizza joints I frequent the most because the pizza tastes so good to me. I mean it's nothing over the top but just a good balance of crust, cheese, and sauce...and I'm referring to the round pizza...they also have the Sicilian (which is square) but I prefer the round. The wings are already pre-cooked so I wasn't that impressed with them... The staff is nice but if you are cold natured please bring a jacket as it can be somewhat chilly in there at times
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Amazing Pizza, Calzones & Garlic Knots! Everyone there is always friendly and attentive. It's a gem. You should give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
google avatar

Sheena T.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in town! Angelo's is a little hole in the wall family run pizza place, and it is superb! At lunch time, they have a buffet that is so good. They make fresh pizzas (and will make whatever you want) plus they put an assortment of pastas at the bar. I cannot rave enough about this place. If you like veggie pizza, get the PICNIC SPECIAL! I have yet to find a pizza that matches it, and the price is great. The buffet is around $10 and is worth every penny. The staff is super friendly and the food speaks for itself. You can taste the fresh homemade ingredients, and it is a wonderful place to go! I just wish it was closer to Nashville!
google avatar

Drea P.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good customer service. Great pizza and cheese sticks! I placed an online order, food was fresh when I picked it up even though I forgot I ordered it lol

Bryan L.

Yelp
Sooooo gooooood!!!!!! Like seriously everything they make is great!!!! Love the pizzas!!!!!
google avatar

Jamie K.

Yelp
Angelo's Picnic Pizza is a family owned hole-in-the-wall pizza buffet that makes a great lunch spot. There are only ever 2 or 3 pizza out at any time but they go fast and are replaced just as fast so if a pizza has a topping you don't care for, just wait a few minutes and there will be a different pie out. The pizzas are thin, floppy slices that really hit the spot.
google avatar

Sunny S.

Yelp
Ok so now this is my go to!!!! Real italian by real Italians!!! Yes yes and yes I met them back in the 90s. Family owned by the same family!! That's so admirable
