Taco restaurant · Glassell Park
"The lines at this taqueria get long, and we mean long. If you’re in the mood for birria but a Dodger game just got out? Forget about it. However, if you’re willing to wait (or come on any other day), make sure to get some meat from that sweet, rotating trompo out front. The marinated pork coming off it is beyond tender, filled with a smoky flavor and pineapple juices dripping from the chunks at the top. Pair this with a crispy, fried queso taco shell and you’ve got yourself a doubleheader." - brant cox, sylvio martins
"Angel’s Echo Park operation is just two minutes from the stadium entrance, so even if there’s a line around 5pm, you’ll still make it inside before the first pitch. Hop in line for pressed-to-order corn tortillas, trompos of juicy al pastor, and salsas that make your lips tingle. Both the braised cabeza and ultra-crispy asada are excellent. Just be sure to order at least one of them inside a crispy, gooey quesotaco quickly kissed on the griddle. Then head up the hill to make everyone in your section jealous of the marinated pork smells coming from your to-go container." - sylvio martins
"If taco stands were judged the same way as baseball prospects, Angel’s Tijuana Tacos would be what coaches call a five-tool player. Not only does this taco stand with locations all over LA County excel in the art of juicy al pastor with a flick of pineapple, but they also serve smoky grilled asada and flavorful braised meats like cabeza. In fact, from the bright salsas to the pressed-to-order tortillas, we’ve yet to encounter anything Angel’s doesn’t do well (dry cleaning? tax services?). Even if you insist you’ve had better this or that at other taco spots, rarely can you find all of it in one place, never mind an operation that has locations stretching from North Hollywood to Long Beach. We're not Angels fans but we're Angel's fans, dig?" - sylvio martins, garrett snyder, brant cox
"Drive down Sunset on any given night, and you'll see a long line forming at this casual taco stand. It’s a serious sidewalk operation complete with al pastor on a spit and a respectable salsa bar. We’re huge fans of both the smoky grilled asada and the juicy al pastor with a flick of pineapple, and no matter what you order, you can easily spend less than $10 on dinner here. Take your tacos just up the hill to Everett Park and eat on the grass with great views of the DTLA skyline." - nikko duren
"Don’t worry if you missed your exit on the I-10 (twice), you’re probably still less than 20 minutes away from an Angel’s Tacos. With 12 locations between Long Beach and Sylmar, Angel’s remains one of LA’s most consistently great taco stand operations, with pressed-to-order tortillas, huge trompos of juicy al pastor, and bright salsas that make your lips tingle. Both the braised cabeza and ultra-crispy asada are excellent, and be sure to get at least one of them inside a crispy, gooey quesotaco that quickly kisses the griddle. Yes, there’s no seating, but when in LA, do as the Angelenos do (eat on your car)." - brant cox, nikko duren, garrett snyder, sylvio martins
