June 4th review:
"Angie's Pizza"
Veal Scallopppini {$12.50}
[Veal tastes ok; breaded - too chewy, not much sauce, meh ]
"Garlic Bread"
[mediocre, bland, virtually zero flavor]
Large pitcher of Barq's Root Beer
[mostly ice cubes, hardly any RB]
1. Only one solitary person working behind the counter (unless they had more hidden somewhere we neither saw nor heard)
2. The 1993 arcade game 'Raiden 2' stole my friend's quarters and refused to play.
3. The table in the booth we sat at was not as long as the bench and wasn't bolted.
4. The jukebox attached to the wall, while cool looking, charges too much for songs (2 credits a song - you only get 3 credits per dollar ). A side note: it had many songs by Tennessee Ernie Ford, a popular singer from the 1950s yet one of his most famous songs, "Shenandoah", it lacked!
5. The dish we ordered, the Veal Scallopppini, was too chewy, bland tasting, had very little sauce on it, hardly any mushrooms (observing the three plates brought to my friends and me, only one of those plates had a "generous" serving of mushrooms and veal, the other two were mostly cooked spaghetti with a blop of what appeared to be Ragu or Prego dropped on top. These cost $12.50 each and were overpriced comparable to the quality. $5 to $8 would have been more realistic considering how meh this dish was. The veal should be much better than it was.
6. The garlic bread had virtually zero flavor and is in my opinion mediocre. It NEEDS garlic butter instead of the strange powder on it. Never imagined it was possible to screw up making garlic bread but this place managed to do that!
7. What passes for a "large" pitcher - here's the thing. When you order a large pitcher, you expect one that's LARGE, like say, what you might get at Round Table. When the supposed large pitcher arrived at our table, it was rather small, about what I'd expect to see at a kindergarten children's pizza party, not at a table for three fully grown men. Attached are photos of this "large" pitcher so you can decide if it's the size they claim or not.. - the contents of the "large" pitcher were about 50% ice and the rest was soda . Make sure to ask for LIGHT ice when you order this!
I certainly hope the pizza here is good cause this experience turned me off to this place. Maybe it was better before the original management stopped running things decades ago? I recommend you go in, try what I ordered and find out for yourself. If you don't agree with my opinion, feel free to comment under this review..
