I have been living in the Upper Valley for 30 years. I have seen many Asian restaurants open and fail, and some for the right and some unfortunate reasons.
This place has been on my list of things "To Do" for quite some time now. Last night was the time to actually go. I have read all of the other critiques from locals and finicky tourists from all over the world. I can only trust my own experience in order to form an opinion. (Some folks simply cannot be satisfied)
This restaurant is relatively small. It's very clean inside. That's EVERYWHERE inside. Tables are tables. I don't require 3rd dynasty carved and inlaid table to eat. All I want is something flat, clean, and no wobbling. Perfect! The chairs were comfortable, and the atmosphere is simply Thai, Southeast Asia. It was "nice". My compliments to whomever it was that decided on the music playing in the background. It too was regional Asian. Very tasteful and never offensive.
The waitstaff were quick to seat us, and answer our questions on the menu choices. Kept our water glasses filled, and were consistently pleasant throughout our stay.
The Menu is limited, but the chef's recommendations change with the seasons, utilizing what is available fresh and locally. They serve no alcohol but encourage people to bring their own bottle. (Excellent deal!)
Our choices were; The coconut shrimp and a couple of Summer rolls to start. Our entree's were; the calamari special, and the mussel special. They allow you to pick the level of spiciness in each dish if you like, or omit it all together. GREAT! I could have mine at a level 3 (spicy!) My wife chose not to go there, and had her's as prepared.
I absolutely love the heat. It was spicy, but not prohibitively so. Very nicely done and allowed the flavors of the dish to ring through. My wife's squid was cooked to perfection. Not a hint of rubberiness.
My mussels were fresh, and also cooked very well. Every shell had a meat in it. If it didn't, I found it in the plate somewhere. The noodles were cooked perfectly. (al dente') my coconut shrimp were also quite delicious, as were the fresher than fresh summer rolls. Desert were also impressive. My wife had a chocolate Spring Roll, and I had the mango/ coconut cheese cake. All i wanted after we finished was to try more things from the menu! Nothing was over or under seasoned. Unlike most asian food, the chef was very sparing with the salt, if he used it at all! (Very important detail for those of us with heart failure)
This was one of our best dining experiences since we moved to Vermont.
Fresh, fresh, fresh. Pleasant, pleasant, pleasant. And very well executed. We WILL most certainly be going back! Again and again.
