Why New Restaurants Continue to Open During the Coronavirus Pandemic | Eater

"A low-overhead Georgetown outpost soft-opened on March 21 as an extension of a downtown operation, offering take-and-bake pizzas alongside Italian pantry items, CSA boxes, wine, and prepared goods. The owner activated a space that had been leased but unused to generate revenue, kept build-out costs down by borrowing equipment, and employed an in-house delivery person to avoid third-party platform fees, positioning the shop as a convenient local-foods alternative during reduced foot traffic." - Nick Mancall-Bitel

We celebrated Father’s Day at Angolo Ristorante Italiano, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm, elegant, and welcoming, creating the perfect setting for a special evening. A heartfelt thank you to Annas, who provided outstanding service. He was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive—patiently walking us through the menu and offering thoughtful recommendations that turned out to be delicious. His genuine hospitality truly made the evening unforgettable. We were also pleased to see that the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, which made our visit much more comfortable and inclusive for our family. Additionally, they offer gluten-free pizza, which was a fantastic and tasty option for those with dietary restrictions. Another highlight was the quiet, relaxed noise level, which made it easy to hold conversations and enjoy our time together. To be fair, it was a rainy evening and the restaurant wasn’t very busy, which likely contributed to the calm atmosphere—so it may feel livelier on a busier night. Overall, if you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with exceptional service, a welcoming and accessible setting, and thoughtful accommodations, Angolo Ristorante Italiano is a must-visit. We will absolutely be returning—and we’ll be asking for Annas again!

Some of the best small town Italian I’ve had in my life. We came back a second time just to try more of the menu. Consistent, fresh quality food. I highly recommend

The service at this place is appaling and this is being generous. The server was so terrible when we visited from New York on Saturday 3/29, it was shocking! The kids had to eat, so no choice. The only way he was going to get a tip was to include in the receipt, which, he did. When we arrived, they were not busy but they took their time to sit us, busy talking to each other. While we waited, he just threw the bread nonchalantly on the table, with no care whatsoever. Suffice to say that we will never return when we visit DC again. Will not recommend. Very ok food. Very ordinary. Fake Halal.

Google
It was a mid restaurant. The food was okay, the main platters we ordered were very rich and a little too heavy, but the bread and dipping oil were very good. The service was also not that good, one of our dishes was forgotten so we just took that off of our bill and the waiter came back to our table to confirm our order multiple times. Very expensive for what we got, 3 plates of pasta with no leftovers came out to over a hundred by themselves, and two dishes were vegetarian. Shockingly expensive for what it is. Plenty of Italian and Halal restaurants in Georgetown where you can absolutely get a better deal.

Angolo Ristorante Italiano is a true gem for authentic Italian cuisine. This restaurant is halal, which is a little bit rare find in the sphere of Italian cuisine. Needless to say i was excited and little anxious to try the food. Im happy to report every dish we tried was absolutely incredible—thoughtfully prepared, well-balanced, and bursting with flavor. We ordered the Chicken Alfredo, Bolognese, Braised Lamb Shank, Penne Angolo (a delightful mix of marinara and pesto), and the Portobello Mushroom Caps stuffed with crab. Each dish was executed beautifully, showcasing delicious and rich, comforting flavors. Beyond the food, the hospitality was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond. The staff offering dates to break our fast and even informing us when it was time. They also served us a lentil soup, which was hearty, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. The warm toasted bread with a dipping sauce of olives and olive oil was another standout—simple yet utterly delicious. From start to finish, our experience at Angolo was outstanding. If you’re looking for authentic Italian food with warm, welcoming service, this is the place to be. We’ll definitely be returning!

Angolo Italian Restaurant is, without a doubt, a five-star culinary experience! our dinner there last night was absolutely fantastic, truly transporting me to a little trattoria in Italy. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was inviting and genuinely warm. The lighting was perfect, the decor charming, and there was a lively, yet comfortable, buzz of happy diners. It felt authentic and cozy, like a place where you could linger for hours enjoying good food and company. The service was exceptional. Our server was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about every dish, and offered fantastic recommendations. They were prompt, friendly, and made us feel truly welcome without being overbearing. And the food... oh, the food! Every single dish was a testament to authentic Italian cooking. It was a hearty, comforting dish that truly hit all the right notes. We couldn't resist dessert. We got the Tiramisu. It was light, creamy, and had just the right balance of coffee and cocoa – the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. Their wine list is also thoughtfully curated, featuring excellent Italian selections that perfectly complement the menu. Angolo isn't just a meal; it's an experience. If you're looking for truly authentic, delicious Italian food served in a wonderful atmosphere with top-notch service, Angolo Italian Restaurant is an absolute must-visit. I'm already planning my next trip back!

At first glance, this Italian restaurant may not stand out compared to some of the trendier, more crowded spots in Georgetown. From the outside, it’s understated and easy to overlook. But stepping inside, my wife and I were instantly struck by its warm, old-school charm—it felt like a slice of Italy tucked away from the bustle of M Street. We were hopeful it would live up to that first impression, and we’re happy to say it far exceeded our expectations. The owner and staff were absolutely incredible—genuinely kind, attentive, and eager to help us navigate the menu and select the perfect drinks. Their hospitality made the whole evening feel personal and special. The food was outstanding. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan and I had the tortellini in a creamy tomato sauce—both dishes were rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. While the check includes an automatic gratuity of around 22%, we were so impressed that we added a little extra. As we were leaving, the owner actually stopped us to make sure we noticed the included tip, clearly concerned we might have added more than we intended. That level of honesty and care only made us want to tip more. This place may fly under the radar, but it's the kind of restaurant you root for—the underdog that absolutely delivers. If you're looking for a truly authentic Italian experience in Georgetown, don’t pass this one by. It’s a hidden gem worth discovering.

Well, this is actually my first time writing a review like this. I am not usually the type to do so. A few hours ago, I visited this restaurant for the first time after passing by and deciding to try their pizza. I walked in and asked if I could sit outside. The staff member at the front, an Asian male, told me they were serving indoors only today. I said okay and asked for a seat inside. He pointed me to a table located directly behind the front desk. As I glanced around toward other clearly empty tables without saying a word, he suddenly said in a rude tone, “These tables are reserved. Sit there,” as if giving an order rather than assisting a guest. Surprised by his attitude, I calmly asked, “Why are you being so rude?” with a slight smile to keep it light. He immediately replied, “Am I rude? Am I?” then walked outside, stared at me, returned, and pulled a chair roughly while continuing to stare and making loud noises with the chair. At that point, another staff member stepped in and tried to calm the situation. He politely told me, “No worries, please sit, it’s fine,” clearly trying to smooth things over. I appreciated his effort, but the damage was already done. Of course, I did not sit. I left immediately. This was my first and last experience with this place, and unfortunately, it spoke volumes about their service culture. I have been to many restaurants across the DMV area and have never encountered such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. Very disappointing👎🏻

Yelp
Penne angolo is original and yummy. Their meatballs are tasty but one recommendation is to get them without the provolone - completely unnecessary. Desserts - their lemon cake is good, their soufflé is not good at all. Garlic bread is decent - I'm more indifferent here If I am in DC again this would be a place I get food from again.

Yelp
Food: ouch. Chicken was like a poorly flavored rubber duck. Pizza crust was soggy like it just came out of the dishwasher. Service: Maybe I'm spoiled but I like to get a cold glass with my beer. All I got was the bottle (opened of course). I felt like service was cast from the Sopranos (could be a positive but I was very worried about paying with my credit card). Ambiance: highly subjective but feels like a well lit school cafeteria with some cheesy paintings and a very depressing looking (empty) bar.

Yelp
Very authentic Italian cuisine. Staff welcoming and has a neighborhood vibe. Some negative reviews totally untrue. No up charge for still water, bread and tip is not automatically added. Worth a try

Yelp
Came to Angolo's with a few friends to catch up over dinner and loved the ambiance and staff that made you feel like you escaped to Italy. We all ordered the Lamb Shank, Gnocchi Bolognese, Garlic Bread, Calamari, and a few other pastas dishes and were honestly so impressed with everything! I would definitely recommend!

Mark L.

Yelp
Our experience was absolutely top-notch and I would highly recommend Angolo to anyone! Outstanding service, great food options with huge flavor on everything we ate plus an atmosphere that was quaint. Ahmed D. was the best part of our experience due to his promptness and above and beyond approach. We WILL be back!

Yelp
Fabulous food. Great atmosphere. If you haven't eaten here, please do. We had pizza, bruschetta and lobster ravioli. Delicious

Yelp
Service is shyte waiter are sloppy and stood there like an ass for ten minutes while getting pushed out by a Uber eats driver never again

Hayden P.

Yelp
We quite enjoyed this authentic Italian restaurant. The bread comes with an addicting pesto sauce. The Caesar salad portion was somewhat small, but it tasted good without being too heavy. The seafood pasta was fresh and definitely worth ordering if you prefer seafood. The spinach manicotti was deliciously cheesy and creamy--they're not afraid of serving very filling pasta. We sat at their outdoor patio setup, which didn't feel too crowded. It seemed like you should make reservations if you want to sit indoors. Throughout our meal, we received great service, and our waiter was rather charming.

Yelp
We had a big group here (14) and they took good care of us. Service: We got everything that was ordered, his suggestion for 2 bottles of wine was spot on, and everyone was friendly. Ambiance: It's cozy inside, but I would prefer no TVs in the dining area. Food: The Arancini was excellent! Great flavor and large portion size. Mozzarella sticks: Triangle shaped with an amazing cheese pull. Spaghetti and meatballs: Large portion and overall tasted good. I added mozzarella to it just for fun. Veal with lemon sauce: The veal was excellent, even though I'm not one to order it, my taste was very good. Chicken with lemon sauce: Not as good as the veal, my wife said it wasn't anything special. I would love to see the meatballs and sauces be punched up in flavor more. My meatballs weren't seasoned at all and the sauce had no depth of flavor. We had a good meal here but I expect more from a place in Georgetown.
google avatar

Lexy K.

Yelp
The outdoor seating was perfect for spring and very cute. I ordered the portobello ravioli and it was delicious! The pesto sauce was very flavorful. I wish the portions were a little larger. The aperol spritz was also good, and everything came out in a timely manner, the service was good.

Yelp
Great food, took us late at night with great service. Got the veal Parmesan and napolitana pizza and it was very good. Nice location on M street.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this restaurant! Everything was so, so, delicious! The chicken Marsala was perfect, the fettuccini Alfredo was so buttery and rich. The carbonara and the chicken parm were amazing. The staff were so kind and attentive. We absolutely, will be coming here again, when we return to DC.
google avatar

Brooke L.

Yelp
We decided to eat here for a quick lunch before heading back home and I'm so glad we did! Our waiter was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the fettuccini Alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs, and lasagna and we all agreed it was some of the best Italian food we've had! I recommend this place if you're looking for a good Italian food fix!

Mia R.

Yelp
Charge extra fees without consent. Water is $10. Party of THREE gets a gratuity fee of $20!!!! Dont go here unlees ur jeff bezozs.

Rony G.

Yelp
Amazing service!!! We came from California and they gave us free bread and the food came out so fast. The waiters and cooks were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was... AMAZING!!!!! I got the rigatoni with chicken and eggplant with creamy tomato sauce, you need to try it. My friend got the bolognese spaghetti and it was also amazing. I highly recommend if you are visiting Washington!
google avatar

Sonya C.

Yelp
Friendly and prompt service, nice location - seated by their big open windows; and delicious pasta! I ordered linguine fruit di mar with garlic bread and my partner had the eggplant parm. All fresh, ssoooo good!
google avatar

Barry S.

Yelp
Very nice place and the gentleman are nice. They greet you well and the service is great. The food was delicious and even better the next day! They also sang happy birthday to me haha. Will definitely have to go back the next time we go to DC. I recommend this place if you have a taste for Italian cuisine.

Jordan C.

Yelp
The vibe to the restaurant was not there. CNN was playing on a big Tv and the staff did not seem like they wanted to work. We ordered a pasta dish and a pizza dish along with an appetizer. The pasta was good but the pizza was bland and tasted like frozen pizza from Walmart. The appetizers were okay at best. If you're looking for authentic Italian in a romantic/cozy setting, look elsewhere

Yelp
The Pizza Angolo - With its San Marzano tomato sauce, Italian Sausage, BACON, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, and mushrooms, it is pretty tasty and I've ordered it three times, pretty consistent. I normally like more veggies or a margherita (which they have) but this was both savory and salty, with a slightly crispy yet bread-y crust. Because there's so much meat, there is a bit of oil on the pizza, and this is to be expected. My son usually gets the meatball Parmesan sandwich which comes with fries. He says the meatballs are flavorful and prefers when they use more Parmesan, but he's usually pretty satisfied. The fries are the crunchy, kind of coated kind. The tiramisu CAN be shared, but why? Lol, it's creamy and chocolate-y, and the ladyfingers aren't overly soaked which I prefer because I need the texture balance. Overall, we like Angolo for comfort Italian food; it's pretty popular with visitors, families, and locals, being a little on the SE side of Georgetown. It gets pretty busy starting Thursdays through the weekend, but you can also make a reservation on Open Table. If you sit on the patio or curbside, it can get pretty noisy with conversation and traffic. Inside is a little bit less noisy but vibrant with conversation. Do note that if you eat on-site, the gratuity of 18% is automatically added for tables of 2 or more. It's noted on the menu. I can't tell you why they do this, but you should know ahead of time. If you want Take-out, order direct from their website and save some $$ on App fees and the automatic gratuity is not charged. Buon appetito!

Yelp
Best Caesar salad ever. Great ambiance and music. Service was basic but food came out quickly and server was nice. Will be coming back!

Yelp
Our server Marcelo was awesome! Food was excellent. The owner couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Highy recommend!

Yelp
A group of us had dinner here on a Saturday night and when we arrived we couldn't figure out where they could put us since the small dining area seemed full. We were escorted outside, through a side door and up a flight of pretty steep stairs to a room that seemed converted from another establishment based on the decor which didn't really fit with an Italian restaurant. I did take a picture. Anyway, we found the mis-match of decor and cuisine entertaining. They did split our group of 12 into 2 tables, so if you are making a reservation for a large group and want to be all together, it's probably a good idea to specify that and see if they can accommodate. If anyone in your party can't climb steep stairs be sure to ask for ground floor seating. Anyway, the food is classic Italian, and I went with the eggplant parmesan which was nicely done. The eggplant has some crispiness to it and the sauce was flavorful and the accompanying pasta was cooked nicely. We found out later there is another menu that has some additional options; a colleague at the other table had asked about a lamb item on the basic menu and the server said that if he liked lamb they'd bring out another menu. He said this was another full menu that did feature some lamb dishes and other options such as osso buco...so...if you want more choices ask for the special menu.

Yelp
The pastas, the chicken, the meats..olives..bread .wine and service all amazing. The food was delicious!

Dan T.

Yelp
The waiter was very short and rude with every request. When I asked for bread he stated he would not bring some until we place our order. It was a party of 6 and we did get our bread after our order it was fresh and good with the olive oil sauce. The food was not anything to write home about but when I asked for the bill he didn't even want to split the bill but he was kind enough to finally split it 3 and 3 on a bill but didn't forget to include the group party gratuity. I will not return to this restaurant.

Yelp
They look run down from the outside and the attitude inside was equally run-down. I won't recommend this place. 1. Reservation: I made one, but they are empty, so not needed. 2. Drinks: mixed drinks were hit and miss, wine selection is mediocre. 3. Food: 3.5 stars, not at all bad, just not a culinary experience. 4. Service: this is where they lack the most. 2 stars at best. There are many great places including Michelin star restaurants close from this place, so I don't see why one would come back.

Meagan B.

Yelp
Wait staff was kind, bread and pesto were good. The fettuccini Alfredo however tasted very cheap and like a microwave meal. It was fine but overpriced.
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Small Italian spot with a solid menu and decent food I came here for dinner with my GF and friend, and the first thing that we noticed was the temperature of the place. It was extremely hot outside, and unfortunately it wasn't much cooler in here Complimentary bread was very tasty, as was the Caesar salad appitizer I got the pesto ravioli, and my friend and GF both got the chicken piccata. We were all underwhelmed
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This is an ok option for Italian food in the Georgetown area. They are able to accommodate big groups without a reservation which is really nice, and they have lots of indoor seating in addition to a spacious patio. In terms of the food, you can definitely get better Italian food elsewhere in Georgetown. The pizzas here are pretty decent and look to have that leopard spotting that comes from pizza ovens. I ordered the margarita pizza and was pretty satisfied with it, though a little doughy for my taste. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna which tasted too sweet for both of us, and it was stone cold in the middle which was unappetizing. All in all, this place is good in a pinch if you don't have reservations elsewhere and I would order the pizza instead of pasta.

Terry S.

Yelp
If your looking for for a fine dining, the best of the best Italian restaurant. Then DO NOT GO TO THIS F RESTAURANT. Me and my mother came here to visit and have decided to eat here before depart back home. Worst mistake we ever made. The food was mid at most and the service was awful and rude. We had to call the waiter multiple times because he never came to check up with us to very end, like we have to call someone else since our waiter wasn't coming. And on top of that he put in his own tip on my receipt without even allowing me to decide what tips to give him, this restaurant practically RIP ME OFF, and this "FINE & AUTHENTIC italian food" wasn't even that good, we should've gone to McDonald, at least there food taste better and is more affordable then this fake F restaurant. So where ever you decide to go dinning, Please go somewhere else, I want to save from this awful experience and from getting rip off. Edit: I was scrolling and looking at some good reviews, and I noticed that there were others who also were victims of these fake F Italian scammers. And I to will also give you and everyone else who read this to CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE PAYING, AND OVERALL JUST AVOID THIS RESTAURANT ALL TOGETHER, ITS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. all those "NICE" reviews are from bots and are from people who don't have good taste for fine dining. these people are literally scamming there costumers.

Yelp
i can for my birthday and sat outside with some friends! this was such a great spot. not too busy, and the staff was very hospitable and provided great service for all of our asks (ex: can we have some olive oil for the table, do you have.. etc.). the food was out of this world!!! this is a great spot if you are looking for some good italian!

Yelp
Ambiance is nice and quiet. Would be a good intimate space. I went on a Tuesday night, so could be completely different on a weekend. The service was pretty good, attentive. The host staff was a little awkward - I felt like I was being watched for my time there, and I was a little confused on where I should sit. I ordered linguine with spicy marinara and seafood. It was pretty good except the squid texture was over cooked and densely chewy. Other than that the clams etc were very good. The sauce flavor was rich and garlicky with a little heat. Good experience.

Ellen H.

Yelp
Just awful! I prefer Italian food made by Italians. i've been here before but not for a long time. Now I'm reminded why I wasn't drawn back to it. I was desperate last night so ordered a quick meal. It cost me 40 bucks and you couldn't pay me 40 bucks to eat it again. Too salty, not ready when I got there and plain awful but force myself to eat it cause it was expensive. So mad at myself for ordering here!

Nick V.

Yelp
Good food! Great service! When you're here, you're family (but fr best white table cloth/italian in DC)

Jesenia S.

Yelp
First time and last time coming to this F restaurant. Come here with my son to visit I has to keep constantly calling them for if i need something and the guy who's was my waiter didn't come to check on us also he has very bad energy. When it was time to leave I ask someone to give me the check because the waiter still didn't check on us and on top of that he put his own tip amount on my receipt with out even allowing me to decide what amount of tip I will leave him. Again first and last time I'm ever going to this F restaurant.
google avatar

K.N. B.

Yelp
The food here was mediocre at best. Nothing to go out of your way to get. What was extremely disappointing was the rude service. The absolute worst service I've ever experienced. I would sooner think I was at a fast food restaurant at midnight, than a "fine dining" establishment for dinner. Will never patron this establishment again.

Yelp
Thursday night. We arrived when outside seating wasn't even half full, but service was a bit slow. Food wise, pizza was probably the best but nothing really stood out. $14 squid had a bit fishy taste and portion was quite small. Dessert was not as the item described on the menu. Overall, food is about average. What bothered me the most was the hygiene issues. 1) no waiters or waitresses were wearing masks and our waiter literally coughed at our table when he bent down to take our orders. 2) unclean utentials. The dessert spoons were quite sticky and we had to wash them with our bottled water. I may not go back given that there are many other quality Italian choices in the neighborhood.

Meg S.

Yelp
I ate here back in July of 2023 but forgot to rate it at the time. Just found my receipt so putting in this belated review now. This was a fine meal but nothing memorable. I had the eggplant parm and my friend had chicken sorrento. My friend probably liked hers more than I liked mine. I remember thinking that the meal was ok but that I didn't know why this was on her short list of preferred neighborhood restaurants. I might give it another chance (especially if dining with the same friend), but I wouldn't rush back.

Sabi N.

Yelp
HORRIBLE!!!! My college son and two friends dined at this restaurant while here for spring break, ordered their food and requested tap water. Their waiter, Amin D brought them "still" water and charged them $17.00 for "still" water. Feeling like they were taken advantaged of, my son came home and told me what happened. I called the restaurant to inquire about the charge for water, as well as their "automatic 22% gratuity" for 3 people. Instead of listening to my concerns, I was greeted by an aggressive, rude and hostile man on the phone, who proceeded to raise his voice and dismiss any concerns or questions I had. I was told they need to learn how to "read the menu." DECEIVING staff and HORRIBLE service! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

Kristin K.

Yelp
Ordered the pizza bianca: it didn't have enough cheese to even rise to the occasion of being glorified cheese toast. Not even enough cheese to cover the dough. Looks nothing like the photo on their website; it was nothing more than seasoned bread. See for yourself in my photo. Also ordered the burrata: it wasn't even quality burrata, and was served with the saddest, thinnest slices of tomato they could muster and still call it "tomato"...for $16. First time ordering from this restaurant and absolutely the last time I'll order from here. Utterly depressing.

Debby R.

Yelp
My husband & I have gone there a couple of times recently and the pizza is the best I've had since my childhood in Brooklyn. So. Good. Service is also excellent. Love this place!

Taha B.

Yelp
The best Italian restaurant in town the food & service are perfect . They have the perfect martini ( angolo martini) It was the best dinner I had with my family .

Isabella B.

Yelp
It took about 10 minutes for a anyone to notice us waiting to be seated while they were at about 50% capacity. As far as the food and drinks, we ordered a limoncello martini, a beef carpaccio, a Margherita pizza, and a quattro formaggi pizza. The drink? putrid. Vodka and nothing else. Quattro formaggi? not great. Gorgonzola and nothing else. This establishment seems to have a hard time combining more than one ingredient in any one of their menu selections. The beef carpaccio? It was alright. The service was inattentive, as we had to flag our waiter down any time we wanted to order. We couldn't hear the music at all from our table, and there was honestly no ambiance to speak of at all. All this was 100 dollars. Was it worth it? Absolutely not. Go to any other Italian restaurant nearby and it will be better than this.

Yelp
Let me set the stage. Husband and I are running late because, despite living in the DMV for literal decades, we don't plan for DC traffic. Our original reservation plans are shot and we realize we need to eat something before we starve to death in plush seats mid-Spamalot. We pull off in Georgetown and decide to brave the rain and densely packed Saturday crowd. We walk past this nice outdoor patio area and my husband tells me that it looks good. My eyes are set on sushi, but a few steps later I see a sign for Angolo. We double back and cross our fingers that some pizza will take 10 minutes so we can get to our show. The menu has classics and traditional dishes that make it feel more than just a standard pizza joint. We tell our server that we have a play soon and we may need to rush. He nods and we wait for only about ten minutes of spousal small talk before our food is delivered. The lobster ravioli was so good I refused to give my husband a full piece. Although I did steal some of his gnocchi, which was also amazing! Overall, the staff was super accommodating to two idiots who were desperate to eat a full dinner in under 40 minutes. The food was amazing (my Nonna would approve!) and I can't wait to go back when I actually have time to sit and enjoy the patio (and a few glasses of wine)
google avatar

Albert B.

Yelp
Great food, if pricey. I had a 12-inch pizza and a Single spaghetti, with tiramisu. After delivery it was $90. No garlic bread or salad or anything came with. So this will hit your Italian craving for sure. But if you're in a budget - fuggittabowtit!

Greg Van N.

Yelp
Went here on the 15th with 2 friends and the overall atmosphere was good; the weather was great and it smelled nice in the restaurant but it's a shame that our experience was bad. I would highly recommend dining at other Italian establishments if you would prefer to not be deceived. We were given the option of still or sparkling water. We assumed, as normal, that water would be free and sparkling would be extra, so we went with still. Our waiter, Amin D., offered us garlic bread casually without mentioning a price. I asked if it would cost extra since he wasn't very hospitable, but wasn't rude, and he answered "just $6". I said no thank you and he brought us out regular bread with butter. We split an entre and the meals were great. We got our bill and saw that we were charged $8.50 for water twice. I asked for refills since we weren't offered any and were under the impression that water was free. Amin also automatically tipped himself 22% gratuity which was added to our total. Being college kids who don't eat out often, we weren't aware of how we were deceived and manipulated. Prices of items not on the menu should not be "hidden" and I should not have to ask if things are free, especially water. I told my parents about our experience, who both wrote reviews. They called the establishment on the evening of March 15th and were answered with hostility and "victim blaming." We are still being harassed with calls because of the reviews.

Yelp
I found everything to be very mediocre. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was not very hot and looked as if it had been sitting for a while. It tasted very bland and nothing to write home about. The servers were nice but it took almost an hour to get our food. Additionally, they had no gluten free option and responded "not tonight " in a very condescending tone when we asked. We sat in the back patio but it was very cold and the heaters weren't strong enough to heat the enclosed area. I think there are much better options in the area.

Yelp
If you only want the jist...food was terrible. Frozen and heated up in a microwave and they added greater than 20% gratuity for a family of 4 that we didn't notice (and they conveniently didn't tell us) until we were already gone. We stopped in here on a Thursday night with our family of 4. Smelled like cats. Restaurant was empty with the exception of 2 other tables. My husband and I split a pasta dish, and one of my children ordered another dish. We were served bread and butter prior to our entree. We had one bottle of still and one bottle of sparkling water as well as 2 glasses of the house red wine. We paid the bill and left a 20% tip. Unfortunately after we left I asked my husband to see the bill as I felt like it was really high. Unbeknownst to us they had already added gratuity for our family of 4 for more than 20%. My husband didn't notice and left them another 20%! So instead of a $18 tip they received a $35 tip. Such a scam. LOOK AT YOUR RECEIPT.

Yelp
Food was fine, not bad but not worth the price, especially since they have an auto 20% gratuity on top of tax.

Yelp
If you are not hungry, don't mind waiting 30 minutes to be acknowledged for seating, and can accept your drink arriving 55 minutes after you ordered it, then Angolo's might be right for you. The food is good, but I've had good Italian food *with actual decent service* plenty of other places. I don't appreciate the fact that they automatically add 20% tip for a party of 2. Last I checked the minimum acceptable tip is 15%, which is what I probably would have given. 18% is standard for automatic gratuity. Servers/managers that can't even acknowledge groups with reservations who have been standing at the entrance for 1/2 an hour do not earn a 20% tip. Literally all the servers passed us (and others) multiple time while intentionally not looking at us. I would not come back. Good thing my husband and I were not *super* hungry. If we were, no doubt this would have ruined our night.
