The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Summit County, Colorado, Breckenridge | Eater Denver

"A.J. Brinkerhoff and Darcy Brinkerhoff got their start brewing beer in their Denver garage and eventually brought their passion to Summit County. When the husband-wife team opened Angry James in Silverthorne in January 2018, it was the culmination of several years of planning, build-out, and resume-building. Now visitors can taste that handiwork in suds like the coffee-forward Two Tone Footer Stout and the tart and dry Bavarian Blonde. Order beet sliders and pulled pork Cubans from the Cultivate Kitchen window inside the brewery." - Amanda Faison

Angry James is hands down our favorite brewery in Summit County. We’ve been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The bartenders are always friendly, welcoming, and know their stuff. The beer selection is consistently on point—there’s something for everyone, but the IPAs are especially killer. They often have great local music, which adds to the laid-back, community vibe. Whether you’re posting up for a pint or grabbing a 4-pack to go, this place is a must-stop every time we’re in Silverthorne.

A true craft beer brewery. Lots of special flavors and styles, all good.

Google
Great brewery. Beers are all excellent, especially the IPAs and the Lagers.

Google
Zack and Jared are the best beertenders I’ve ever experienced. Their knowledge and attitude are amazing. It’s the best beer I’ve ever drank in my life. Shout out to Kyle, the brewer. Answered all my questions. If you want to talk beer, ask him. Run don’t walk for the best local place in town.

Google
We learned about the beer when we went to see a show at the Lake Dillon Theater Company. We loved it and were happy to learn the brew pub was a stones throw away! After the show we walked over. There seemed to be a 50:50 mix of local and tourists like ourselves. There was a live band band playing and everyone was in a great mood. The next day we went again and got to meet James (not angry at all) and had a few more beers. What an awesome place with friendly staff and patrons, very laid back and extremely welcoming. The beer alone is a reason to visit! If you are in the area be sure to stop in you will be happy you did!

Google
What a great place!! Yummy beers and grilled cheese sandwiches with amazing tots. You can even get tomato soup! Highly recommend 👍

Google
This brewery has solid beers! I had the Tricentric ipa, Wild Ruby Cherry Sour, Enchanted Forest Hazy ipa, Two-Tone Footer Stout, and Powder Stache Porter. I would recommend them all! If you're in the area, don't miss this brewery! There is also a grilled cheese restaurant inside the brewery which offers many variations on a grilled cheese sandwich. Recommend that also!

Google
Excellent service. Bartenders are actually actively walking around and outside making sure everybody is good. Cold day in the mountains and we were still comfortable sitting outside in the sun around the fireplace. Would've easily been 5 stars but I think the beer could be better. Hopefully this will improve as they don't themselves. Good selection though. I'll be back, and I'll update if/when improved.

Yelp
This is a great brewery near the Silverthorne outlets. The IPAs were fantastic. The folks behind the bar were friendly and knowledgeable. They have a nice selection of board games. And, they have an onsite "food truck" inside. There is plenty of parking in the lot and on the street out front. This brewery is just a few minutes drive from I70.

Yelp
First time here. Cool vibe to the building but not sure we felt the friendliness. Maybe the name carries over to the overall scene. We tried a flight of six different beers, and while we both found one or two that were ok, none really grabbed us, so we didn't bother getting anything else. We might try them again next time we're in town.

Yelp
On our way to Avon for the weekend, we looked at the Hop Beer Passport for a brewery where we could stop along the way. Angry James Brewery was close enough off the highway for us to stop. The beer was solid. In fact, we bought a four-pack to take with us to hotel. It was a cozy interior, and there was a place to order food, too. They were cordial to visitors, but locals got more attention. That's to be expected, since locals sustain their business. Be sure to stop by and check it out.

Yelp
I'm tired of The Brewery Thing. What happened to the simple Saloon with Jack on rocks and free peanuts? Anyway this was no different than any other brewery filled with weekenders determined to drink expensive suds. Service was especially friendly from the Grilled Cheese Sandwich franchise on site. After learning of my disappointment with their greasy, burnt sweet potato fries, I was given complementary tots.

Yelp
I was in town for three days and wanted to check out the local places. If you are looking for a brewery that is not super crowded with tourist then this is the place. I think I was the only one in there that was not a local. They have a large selection of beers on tap. All the beers I tried had really good flavor combinations. I wish I would have brought some back with me.

Yelp
Came in after hitting the slopes for some beers - I got the two-tone footer coffee stout and my husband got the brown ale. The stout is delicious - has a hint of maple finish and goes down pretty smooth. The brewery has a separate food business - Mountain Melt grilled cheese - that smelled really good! And some nice merch. Good stop in Silverthorne!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely terrible. First, the place was under staffed and the beer tender a crude human being who double charged my credit card after paying with a gift card. Second, the beer, the coffee stone was completely oxidized and the porter was under fermented leading to a residual sugar with off flavors. Terrible place, I plan to return to confront the management for my over charge.
google avatar

Glenn I.

Yelp
The beers were good and reasonably priced. They had an entertaining band playing the night I was there.
google avatar

Mya ..

Yelp
Good variety of beers on tap to pick from. The Cherry sour had a good balance of sour and tartness. The Norwegian Farmhouse was refreshing and light. The Jake's pil was good tasting but nothing special. Overall experience was great with live music and food from Mountain Melt hit the spot. Seemed like a local place and we enjoyed that vibe. Service was immediate as walked in, no complaints there.
google avatar

George G.

Yelp
Nice little spot here in Summit County. Mountain Melt is located inside, two different tabs to cover your beer and food, but worth it.
google avatar

Annmarie N.

Yelp
Love the locals vibe. Love the music. Love the beer. Food is terrific for what it is -- sandwiches. So as long as that is okay for you -- this is a fab spot to hang out with friends ... and your pups ....
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer selection and vibe in Silverthorne. I did the combo with a grilled cheese at the store within a store they have and really enjoyed it
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! The guy with the ponytail was dope and knew his shit! great beer choices and the spot is super cool.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Great beers and very busy on trivia night. We enjoyed our time there. Too bad they don't can all of their funky beers and not just the flagship ones
google avatar

Carly L.

Yelp
Came by for trivia and had a great time! Trivia is from 7-9pm on Thursdays, but the place gets packed by 6:30pm so make sure you get there early. Solid beer options as well, and they offer a few food options.

Yelp
I LOVED this brewery. Their atmosphere is chill and relaxed. Not at all rushed by the bartenders, and I think we tried almost every beer! Their brown and red ales were amazing as was the stout and the 2 IPAs I tried. Seriously impressed with their small town vibe and delicious beer. There is a separate kitchen inside that was serving up AMAZING food. There is an order window where you can order and pay and then they'll bring your food and silverware to you. Don't miss out on the curry hummus. Perfect snack for all the tasty beer that you'll be drinking.

Christiana S.

Yelp
Great drinks good food fun place. Everything came out Perfect. Staff is amazing. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
This is a GREAT place to grab a beer. It's a very fun, relaxing, and chill environment. I tried a flight of their beers and loved all of them. Their Norwegian beer was by far my favorite though. We didn't grab food, but they do have a small kitchen. Looked like up-scale grilled cheeses, which couldn't be bad at all. I kinda wish I had skipped dinner to try one.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for Angry James - not the food Angry James was phenomenal. Such a great atmosphere. Dog friendly on their covered/sealed back patio area. Good price and good happy hour. Will return every time I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid beers at this conveniently located Dillon brewery. Plenty of seating at the large bar and table tops. Outdoor patio with a fire pit which wasn't open on the 13 degree day we were there. They have food too. A couple vegan options like the chili and pretzel. Great snacks. These guys just celebrated their two year anniversary. They have a variety of beers from pilsners to IPAs to stouts. Stop by if you're in the area.

Yelp
A pretty fantastic stop with our dinner party! We infiltrated Angry James about an hour before closing and the barkeep was excited to have us. Only a few people were bellied up to the bar so we just took over the place. Alpen Weisse is a pretty fantastic beer if you like hefeweizens. Most breweries I make it to don't have hefs on tap, so this was a pleasant surprise. I might have had a few. The barkeep was attentive, fun, and easy going. The closing time approached and he was fine cleaning around us while we finished our beers. (We felt bad but he was cool with it). Parking wasn't a problem because I didn't drive, I rode but my driver found a spot easy. Clean and kept brewery.

Yelp
AJ is hands down my favorite brewery in Summit County. It is simple and to the point. Great beers done the right way. Plus, the views are spectacular. The Dillion Lake dam is front and center out the large glass garage door (which was up and open to the patio and fire pit when we were there, fantastic) and then if you look left or right the mountains complete the great view. For the beers, several great things on tap - you really can't go wrong - but my favorite was the red ale. It was smooth, not too hoppy and had great flavor. So you might be thinking, with all this positivity why only the four stars? Well ... it was the food. Side note, the food is actually by a separate entity that simply rents kitchen space, but it's about the overall experience and the food is part of it... The food was not bad; it just wasn't great. We had three apps - jalapeño pretzel, quinoa salad and the garden bagel bites. Quinoa was fantastic; the bagel bites, while a bit bigger, reminded me of the bagel bites we used to buy at Costco or Sams Club growing up. Not bad, just not 4/5 stars. The pretzel was dry and had no spice to it; very disappointing especially when at a brewery. It should be a great pairing with beer. Again, the food was not bad it was simply ... average. Enough with the downside, AJ is fantastic. It needs to be on any beer lover's list when visiting Summit County. Beyond the quality of the beer, the service was awesome and the staff very friendly. It is an extremely welcoming place and they make you feel like they are glad you are there. Good times for sure!

Yelp
One of the best breweries in the state of CO. I travel a lot for work and try every place I can around Colorado. Fantastic brewery, atmosphere, beer, etc.
google avatar

Hilary W.

Yelp
Our favorite brewery in Summit. My go to is Jakes Pils. Good environment and friendly staff, always! The current food vendor is a grilled cheese menu. I might have to say that the Hot Honey is the best grilled cheese I've had. Yum! I wish I could post a photo, but it's all gone.
google avatar

Rose H.

Yelp
Rowdy atmosphere that attracts both tourists and locals. The beers are good and you can get growlers of the beers on tap. We like the coffee beers.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
For a while there they served pork green chili from the Mountain Lyon Cafe a block away. It's the best. Well they no longer offer any food. I know most beer joints, ah excuse me, BREWERY's, don't have food but a bowl of PGC and a cold Angry James beer is a great combo that I wasn't able to enjoy until I got home with a growler of Angry beer and a gallon of PGC. I think I had the 4th St Brown dark beer. It was great! 5 stars. Nice size patio, dog friendly, (it's CO) fire pit, friendly staff and live music the day I was there.

Yelp
Love, love, love this brewery. Great laid back atmosphere & they have beers to please every palate. I love almost everything they brew but the tri-centric is my absolute fave. The addition of mountain melt has made this place a must visit for every visit to summit county!!
google avatar

Pam J.

Yelp
Very good beer, a good food truck, and a great knowledgeable bar tender. What else can one ask for in a brew pub? Nothing. We tried 6 beers and enjoyed all but the wheat. Pilsner, Pale Ale, IPA & the stout were all delicious. I've been to most breweries in the area this one is the best in the Silverthorne / Dillon
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
Great outdoor patio. Views of foothills and fall colors. Inside has great ambiance too. Enjoyed the two tone footer stout. Lighter than most stout, more of a porter feel. Picked up some fun swag at Angry James.
google avatar

Alina T.

Yelp
Great place to stop in for a beer! It's much more of a locals spot than some of the other breweries in the area. They have a large indoor space, covered patio, and a few picnic tables outside. Good spot for your dog & even better spot for some beer. I loved the Weiss I got (a great summer go-to) & everyone seemed to enjoy their beers as well. We originally came by because my brother-in-law had the best beer he'd ever had here (and that's saying a lot), but unfortunately it was their stout that they only brew/serve seasonally, so we couldn't try that this time around. Will have to come back soon!
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
This place has a SOLID line up of tall boys & 6ers. I was on my way back to LA from Blackhawk and stumbled on this place while getting some petro. Staff recommend most of these. Here's a few goodies I picked up.
google avatar

Jes S.

Yelp
We loved visiting here on out last trip to Silverthorne. The vibe is great and staff incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. On top of this the beer was amazing...with many types to choose from. They had several good IPS, Oktoberfest, ales, pilsners, etc. We also visited on a Wed evening and listened to a great musician playing Bluegrass. A great local brewery to check out!
google avatar

Catie M.

Yelp
beer quality: 4 stars staff: 5 stars atmosphere: 5 stars We grabbed a flight of 4 and they each tasted exactly like what they were supposed to taste. However, the beers weren't super cold. Which I realize is maybe a preference? They have a food bar near the beer bar for you to have some snacks. We didn't grab any food but the pretzel looked delicious and we saw about 4-5 people order pretzels while we were there! I would highly recommend swinging by this brewery. Great space for dogs as well!

Myriam C.

Yelp
Cool brewery to go to from Breckenridge . Very easy to find and you can order food .

Steve W.

Yelp
I enjoyed the unique craft beer that they had, definitely very tasty. The food truck provided some very good food to go with the beer.
google avatar

Jill W.

Yelp
Still thinking about the Tricentric IPA!! Fantastic brews, friendly and helpful bartenders, great merchandise selection, and delicious food at Cultivate food stand.
google avatar

Talisa D.

Yelp
This was a cute place with tasty food and beer! We really loved the bahn mi brat - unique and flavorful! A touch spicy which added to it. The green chile flat bread was pretty standard. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the green chile beer cheese which was served cold and without anything to eat it with. Not sure if it was meant to be purchased with a pretzel? Didn't particularly like it which is sad since I LOVE cheese. The beers were all tasty and a good price at $5-7/beer. My main issue was that the place was way too busy. There was a long poorly spaced line to get beer at the bar and only one bartender. There seemed to also only be one person bussing and hosting so it as a little disjointed and at first we didn't realize we'd have no server - you go up to the bar to order drink and you go up to the side kitchen to order food. They definitely could have done with another 1-2 ppl especially behind the bar since that was always crowded and the wait was very long.
google avatar

Guillermo E.

Yelp
Great place in the Dillon/Silverthorn are, indoor and out door seating, cool merchandise, if you get the munchies they have a kitchen with lots of goodies, outstanding customer service, and the best part is they have a beer almost for every taste, the customer service is awesome, give them a call for seating otherwise you will be waiting up to 30 minutes but it is worth it.
google avatar

Brad W.

Yelp
We love this place! Excellent beer and fantastic service. If your in Summit County and you love great beer, it's a place you absolutely must visit.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
Great beers and option to have as many or as few samples as you want with $2 5oz pours. I really loved the Bavarian Blonde and the chocolate stout. The environment is laid back with long, wooden tables for community seating and a fire pit. There was a band that was playing a bit too loud while we visited but everything else was great!
google avatar

Simon B.

Yelp
yes yes YES! Always a good and tasty time to be had at Angry James. It's always busy and parking is a bit of a pain but well worth it for the delicious beers and bites. i am so addicted to their Tricentric IPA that every single time I am coming through town I am required to stop and pick up a 4-pack. Keep up the great beers!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
I love that they allow dogs outside. We did want food though and when I called they said they're there till an hour before closing. We got there an hour and a half and the food staff already left. I was hangry and we would've picked up food before so it ruined my experience a little. Nonetheless the beers are good but w the elevation and no food in the tummy I got super drunk quickly and could only have one. Lol.
google avatar

Jan H.

Yelp
Cute little spot off the beaten path. The beer was good, they have a good selection for those that like dark beers, sours, IPAs etc. Theres a little kitchen that had good 'fresh' 'real' food. Think just real ingredients, minimally processed kinda thing
google avatar

Ricky M.

Yelp
At Angry James right now. Tried 5 different beers, all different styles. Have ZERO complaints, all the beers are very good and super drinkable. Also got the sweet potato harissa hummus with crostini's from the Cultivate OffBeet Local Eats inside, and it's awesome. I'd buy a giant bag of the crostinis, and for hummus with sweet potato in it, you can't *taste* the sweet potato, which makes it perfect. Both places are 5 stars and I will stop here again.
google avatar

Alina K.

Yelp
- great beer - super dog friendly patio - delicious, locally sourced food Perfect for post hike if you are hungry, thirsty and have a four legged buddy with you. We had the sheer divide, Alpen Weisse and one of the IPA's. They were all really good. Food wise, we happened to be there on the first day their kitchen named 'Cultivate' opened and we were all really satisfied. We had two 4th street specials and one caprese panini and we were all very quiet while eating which is always a good sign. Price is good too, less then $10 for each item.

Mike B.

Yelp
Lot's of good choices in this area, hands down Angry James is the best. Every beer is worth a taste. They just get it right here!
google avatar

Harry E.

Yelp
Hands down best beer in the state. Every beer I've had is impressive. Highly recommend trying them all. The Stout, Farmhouse, and Pilsner are among my favorites. Also the bartenders are very warm and welcoming. 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
Even with covid happening, the staff makes sure you feel welcome and are able to have an enjoyable time. Came to just relax outside and have a few beers with my dogs. It was much needed and I'm glad the staff was as friendly as they were. Thanks guys, I'll be back!
google avatar

Renee W.

Yelp
We really like Angry James; cool vibe and nice outdoor patio outfitted with picnic tables to enjoy a tasty brew and the view. Tucked off the highway it's pretty easy to find. There's also a vegetarian kitchen inside that has food as well. Good selection of beers and super chill bartender.
