AJ is hands down my favorite brewery in Summit County. It is simple and to the point. Great beers done the right way. Plus, the views are spectacular. The Dillion Lake dam is front and center out the large glass garage door (which was up and open to the patio and fire pit when we were there, fantastic) and then if you look left or right the mountains complete the great view. For the beers, several great things on tap - you really can't go wrong - but my favorite was the red ale. It was smooth, not too hoppy and had great flavor.
So you might be thinking, with all this positivity why only the four stars? Well ... it was the food. Side note, the food is actually by a separate entity that simply rents kitchen space, but it's about the overall experience and the food is part of it... The food was not bad; it just wasn't great. We had three apps - jalapeño pretzel, quinoa salad and the garden bagel bites. Quinoa was fantastic; the bagel bites, while a bit bigger, reminded me of the bagel bites we used to buy at Costco or Sams Club growing up. Not bad, just not 4/5 stars. The pretzel was dry and had no spice to it; very disappointing especially when at a brewery. It should be a great pairing with beer. Again, the food was not bad it was simply ... average.
Enough with the downside, AJ is fantastic. It needs to be on any beer lover's list when visiting Summit County. Beyond the quality of the beer, the service was awesome and the staff very friendly. It is an extremely welcoming place and they make you feel like they are glad you are there. Good times for sure!
